Seclusion: Living in a Cave (video)

Cave life can be great, Afghanistan
"Not all who wander are lost," but some are. Wandering ascetics or shamans/shramanas like the Buddha very deliberately chose a way of life that was off the grid, independent, and aimed at complete liberation or moksha, which he uniquely defined as nirvana and nirodha, the "end of all suffering and all future rebirth," which can be accomplished in this very life.

But this is a different story of cave dwelling, not for the sake of meditation so much as getting off the grid and becoming free of money, society, and worldly entanglements. Spirituality? Not so much.

Living in a Cave
"I haven't earned or spent a single cent in 14 years"
(Only Human, 10/31/20) Daniel grew tired of having to pay rent, so he moved into a cave and now lives free of money! But is this the real reason for his lifestyle choice? This segment comes from "A Different Drummer," a celebration of those who are truly different from the rest of us and who, according to a ten-year study, are healthier, happier, and tend to live longer.

This short film examines how and why “dancing to the beat of our own drum” is good for us.
