Island paradise in Asia (El Nido)

Palawan is made up of more than a thousand islands.

And while it would be very difficult to choose the most beautiful corner of this stunningly gorgeous Philippine province, El Nido (a Spanish language reference to edible "birds' nests" in its limestone caves) will no doubt be near the top of the list.

Situated mostly on the northern tip of Palawan Island, El Nido also includes about 45 offshore islands and islets, each seemingly more interesting and fantastic than the last.

The craggy limestone cliffs and ancient rock formations here are cousins of those found in equally dazzling Asian coastlines such as Krabi (Thailand), Guilin (autonomous zone in China), and Ha Long Bay (Vietnam).

What really distinguishes El Nido (Spanish for "The Nest") are the brilliant blues and greens of the seawater in stark contrast to the dark, rugged shoreline, which creates a sublime spectacle. El Nido, Palawan (Bing)
