This is not a beginner’s guide to L.A., jokes about freeways or $10 maps to the stars. Buckle up as KPCC FM (Southern California Public Radio) steers off the beaten path and explores Southern California through the eyes and experiences of some of the millions of people who call it home.
“Unheard LA” is a brand-new, three-part series of live shows in different venues around this sprawling and too-often disconnected mega-metropolis. Each show is unique and features a distinct lineup of real people sharing their true stories of struggle and survival, of hope and fear, of the unexpected and the unbelievable.

Uptown Whittier provides the backdrop for KPCC In Person’s first “Unheard LA” show. Immerse yourself in the lives of our storytellers as they sing songs of immigration, ponder in verse, honor beloved hometowns and celebrate the rich diversity of Southern California. KPCC In Person’s “Unheard LA” heads to the heart of downtown L.A. for its second show, which is at times hilarious and heartbreaking – and captivating throughout. Storytellers from across Southern California present true tales of hacking into comedy school, the magic and mania of songwriting, the unexpected charm of a dive bar and more. Tucked away in a nondescript building on a nondescript corner in Hollywood is a striking theater that will house KPCC In Person’s third “Unheard LA,” which features Young Storytellers and community storytellers from across Southern California. Lose yourself in personal pieces ranging from a 14-year-old’s unyielding stand on screen time to a desperate search for Zumba in K-Town and the day TSA changed one person’s understanding of identity. The 2015 SoCal VegFest will be held on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, Orange County, California. Over 80 vendors are confirmed, including OC and LA-based restaurants and food trucks including:

There will also be a VEGAN CUPCAKE COMPETITION! Vegan cupcake bakers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter. Please note that this is a cupcake baking competition, NOT an eating competition. :P
Entrants are asked to bake their cupcakes at home then bring six of
them for judging. Entry deadline is Oct. 28 for those who register!
Cupcakes must be turned in on Sunday, Nov. 1 between 11:00 am and noon at
the SoCal VegFest at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California.
Winners will receive ribbons, gift bags, and bragging rights for one
glorious year! More
