Is our true history etched in Sumerian clay?

Awaken-consciousness.com; Pat Macpherson, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Who were these god-kings?
The Sumerian King List still puzzles historians after more than a century of research.

Out of the many incredible artifacts that have been recovered from sites in Iraq [formerly Mesopotamia, Babylon, "Western Asia"] where flourishing Sumerian cities once stood, few have been more intriguing that the Sumerian King List.

This list is an ancient manuscript originally recorded in the Sumerian language that lists the kings of Sumer (ancient Southern Iraq) from Sumerian and neighboring dynasties, their supposed reign lengths, and the locations of “official” kingship.

Were the Annunaki (Asuras, Titans) giants?
What makes this artifact so original is the fact that the list blends apparently mythical pre-dynastic rulers with historical rulers who are known to have existed.

The first fragment of this rare and unique text -- a 4,000-year-old cuneiform tablet -- was found in the early 1900s by German-American scholar Hermann Hilprecht at the site of ancient Nippur and published in 1906.

Since Hilprecht’s discovery at least 18 other exemplars of the king’s list have been found, most of them dating from the second half of the Isin Dynasty (circa 2017-1794 BCE).

No two of these documents are identical. However, there is enough common material in all versions of the list to make it clear that they are derived from a single, “ideal” account of Sumerian history.

Among all the examples of the Sumerian King List, the Weld-Blundell prism (shown at right) in the Ashmolean Museum cuneiform collection in Oxford, represents the most extensive version as well as the most complete copy of the King List.

The 8-inch-high prism contains four sides with two columns on each side. It is believed that it originally had a wooden spindle going through its center so that it could be rotated and read on all four sides.

It lists rulers from the antediluvian (“before the flood”) dynasties to the fourteenth ruler of the Isin Dynasty (circa 1763-1753 BCE).

The list is of immense value because it reflects very old traditions while at the same time providing an important chronological framework relating to the different periods of kingship in Sumeria. It also demonstrates remarkable parallels to accounts in Genesis [of the Judeo-Christian Bible].

The ancient civilization of Sumer

Sumer (sometimes called Sumeria), is the site of the earliest known civilization.

It is/was located in the southernmost part of Mesopotamia between the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers, in the area that later became Babylonia and is now southern Iraq from around Baghdad to the Persian Gulf.

By the third millennium BCE, Sumer was the site of at least 12 separate city states:
  1. Kish
  2. Erech
  3. Ur
  4. Sippar
  5. Akshak
  6. Larak
  7. Nippur
  8. Adab
  9. Umma
  10. Lagash
  11. Bad-tibira
  12. Larsa.
Each of these states comprised a walled city and its surrounding villages and land, and each worshiped its own deity, whose temple was...

The Sumerian King List records that eight kings reigned before a great flood. After the Flood various city-states and their dynasties of kings temporarily gained power over the others.

Sumer’s mythical past
Cuneiform Sumerian clay tablet writing
The Sumerian King List begins with the very origin of kingship, which is seen as a divine institution: “the kingship had descended from heaven.” The rulers in the earliest dynasties are represented as reigning fantastically long periods:

“After the kingship descended from heaven, the kingship was in Eridug. In Eridug, Alulim became king; he ruled for 28,800 years. Alaljar ruled for 36,000 years. Two kings; they ruled for 64,800 years.”

Some of the rulers mentioned in the early list -- such as Etana, Lugal-banda, and Gilgamesh -- are mythical or legendary figures whose heroic feats are subjects of a series of Sumerian and Babylonian narrative compositions.... More

Zecharia Sitchin
Sitchin (July 11, 1920-October 9, 2010) was an Azerbaijani-born American author of books proposing an explanation for human origins involving ancient astronauts based on his translation of the Sumerian tablets.

He proposed many controversial translations, interpretations, and theories -- all, he said, based on the texts themselves. Some say he read more into them than was there, or they could not read and understand what he did.

Will the world end on Sept. 23, 2017? (Yes)

Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon, Dhr. Seven, Pfc. Sandoval, Sheldon S. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly; George DuMontier, Meredith (foxcarolina.com); Joey Millar (Express.co.uk);

ET: We are ye Gods
The end of the world is coming -- again. This time it falls on September 23, 2017, according to a numerologist named David Meade.

Meade claims to have used verses from the Christian Bible as well as certain astronomical events to predict the end of the entire world. If this is true, we can expect to see earthquakes [oh my goodness, it's already started!], tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, a collision with the 12th planet Nibiru, and the end of time on Earth.

Ye will have no other gods before Me!
But time will continue everywhere else, including the astral plane we will all instantly switch to as we carry on through samsara, the Continuing Wheel of Rebirth.

Here's how Meade discovered this biblical prophecy. Christian Bible verse Luke 21:25 reads:

"There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken."

According to Meade, this passage is referring to the solar eclipse ("signs in the sun") and Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Katia, Maria, Jose... ("tossing of the sea").

Next, we have the special number 33. Meade says Jesus was 33-years-old when he died (returned to heaven), and the word Elohim, one of the plural names of the many Gods mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, is mentioned 33 times in the Christian Bible.

The solar eclipse was on August 21, 2017. Add the special number 33, and 33 days later we end up with September 23 -- the end of our world.

To be fair, Meade has a few other pieces of evidence for his prediction including an alignment of certain stars and planets, which makes it more convincing. He's been dismissed by both  the atheist community at NASA and the Christian community.

NASA says Planet Nibiru, sometimes known as Planet X or an unnamed object, does not exist regardless of the evidence, sightings, and books by Zecharia Sitchin.

In an article for Christianity Today [an official mouthpiece for an entire religion of tremendous diversity and thousands of sects], Ed Stetzer, a pastor and executive director of Wheaton College's Billy Graham Center, wrote, "Whenever someone tells you they have found a secret number code in the Bible, end the conversation." Will the world end on Saturday?
Wisdom Quarterly (COMMENTARY)

Discourses of the Buddha (translation)
Of course the world will end. It is always ending. That is the meaning of the first mark of existence, impermanence (anicca). It does not mean things will be fall apart. It means they are always falling apart. Birth (arising) leads to turning and falling away. These three phases of dependent origination are natural, inherent in phenomena. How could it be otherwise? What arises that does not fall away? There are things that endure, but while they endure they are falling away.

Intangible things can endure, but the consciousness that perceives them is constantly falling away. The Dharma, the ultimate Truth, does not change. And one Truth -- an ennobling, enlightening, liberating Truth -- is that all things are in constant flux, radically impermanent, hurtling toward destruction. So what should a wise person do? Let go, not cling, observe what is True. Everything is all right even in the midst of apparent cataclysm, turmoil, and change. If life is an illusion, it is true of all life, all sense of separateness.

Things seem scary, but they're okay.
Because things are "dependently originated" (conditionally co-arisen) -- arising in dependence on their constituent factors -- they cannot be separate from those factors. Because those factors themselves are radically impermanent, so too are they constantly in flux, changing, falling apart, being replaced with similar factors until final dissolution. To gain a "perception of impermanence" can scare an ordinary uninstructed worldling, but a meditator sees it and gains liberating wisdom by letting go, detachment, freedom.

The "perception of impermanence" is defined in the Girimananda Sutra (A.X. 60) as meditation on the impermanence of the Five Aggregates of Clinging or Groups of Existence.

"Though, with a confident heart, one goes for guidance to the Awakened One (the Buddha), the Dharma, or the Community of Enlightened Individuals, or with a heart filled with conviction observes the precepts (for virtue), or develops a mind/heart full of loving-kindness, far more meritorious is it if one cultivates the perception of impermanence, even if it is only for a moment" [because such a perception leads to letting go, to liberation, to glimpsing nirvana, to enlightenment] (A.X. 20).

*Girimānanda Sutra
This discourse was given at Jetavana Grove. Ananda brings news to the Buddha that Girimānanda is ill and asks would the Buddha go and visit him? The Buddha suggests that Ananda should repeat to Girimānanda the ten ideas (saññā, perceptions)
  1. anicca-saññā (perception of impermanence)
  2. anatta-saññā (perception of the impersonal nature of existence)
  3. asubha-saññā (perception of the repulsive)
  4. ādīnava-saññā
  5. pahāna-saññā
  6. virāga-saññā
  7. nirodha-saññā (perception of dissolution)
  8. sabbaloka-anabhirati-saññā
  9. sabbasankhāresu anicca-saññā
  10. ānāpānasatisaññā
and proceeds to expound them in detail. Ananda does so and Girimānanda recovers from that illness (A.v.108ff.).

End of the World? Will Planet X smash into Earth on Sept. 23?
, Express.co.uk, Updated Sept. 20, 2017

Planet Nibiru theorists believe that Planet X (the 10th planet) is due to smash into Earth on September 23, bringing the Christian "Rapture" and destroying much life and initiating the end of this world [as we know it].

Theorists believe a mysterious planet already hidden in the Solar System will collide with Earth, killing [many] and devastating the planet, sometime this Saturday.

The bizarre claim has been put forward by a number of [astronomy] fans, most notably David Meade.

He has tied the disaster to a number of biblical prophecies and passages, including Revelation 12:1. This passage reads:

The Bible, Egypt's pyramids
“A great sign appeared in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head.

“And being with child, she cried out in her travail and was in anguish of delivery."

Mr. Meade claims the “sign in the sky” refers to the stunning eclipse experienced last month.

He explained: “The great sign of The Woman as described in Revelation 12:1-2 forms and lasts for only a few hours. According to computer generated astronomical models, this sign has never before occurred in human history.

“It will occur once on September 23, 2017. It will never occur again. When it occurs, it places the Earth immediately before the time of the Sixth Seal of Revelation.

“During this time frame on September 23, 2017, the moon appears under the feet of the Constellation Virgo. The Sun appears to precisely clothe Virgo.” More

Found: Planet X, Nibiru (video)

Pat Macpherson, Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon, Wisdom Quarterly; JacobIsrael.com (YT); Gabe Hash

Renowned astronomers from Northern Arizona University have finally announced that Planet X, Planet 9, Nibiru [technically the 10th planet, as Zacharia Sitchin explains, because the ninth was slammed to smithereens to become the Kuiper Belt and other objects] is most likely out there.

This recent discovery verifies everything many of us have been saying. This as well as discoveries from SETI and Secchi tell us that THINGS ARE CHANGING [and NASA has been lying all along].

Support for all of these videos are available at the free website JacobIsrael.com, and check out the award-winning novel, The Calling: The Book of Thomas James.

Two suns in the sky
Another massive planet traversing our sky?
The Buddha spoke of a time when there will be as many as seven suns leading this planet of ours to wither away and burn. But that is a long way off. Nibiru comes around periodically on a predictable schedule and changes everything due to the inhabitants there and their interference in earthling affairs. It's nothing new, but the information has been kept from us by those in power. Attempts by astronomers blowing the whistle has led to their mysterious assassinations. Someone has a vested interest in keeping this information secret, not least the fossil fuel industry that profits so richly by keeping free energy a secret along with the true history of the planet which we have been led to call "myth."

Sumerians/Anunnaki (Zecharia Sitchin)

Zecharia Sitchin; lbawop; Wisdom Quarterly

Zoroastrianism's winged discs (UK)
This presentation by the late great linguist, historian, and author Zecharia Sitchin is about his 70 years of research. Sitchin (1920-2010) was an Azerbaijani-born American author investigating human origins by way of ancient astronauts. Sitchin attributes the creation of the ancient Sumerian culture (Persian Empire) to the Anunnaki, "those who from the sky came" in winged disks.

The Asuras were cast off Sumeru to Earth
These beings -- possibly the Ashuras/Ahuras of Buddhist and Vedic/Indian lore descending from high atop Mt. Sumeru (the Near East/Central Asia spaceport in Sumer, Sumeria (modern Iraq/Iran) -- were revered by Zoroaster (Zarathustra). The religion, displacing those Indian/Indus Valley Civilization traditions revering the devas -- evolved, Mithra, mysteries, Ahura-Mazda, which is the basis of a great deal of Christianity as originated in Persia (Iran) and followed in Mithraism and Zoroastrianism, Iranis, and Parsis of India.

The Anunnaki was a race of extraterrestrials from a planet beyond Neptune called Nibiru or Nirbiru. This hypothetical planet is understood to be on an elongated, elliptical orbit within our Earth's solar system. Sitchin asserts that Sumerian history/mythology -- which is at the root of Vedic, Egyptian, Islamic, and Judeo-Christian lore -- is the origin of this view. His books have sold millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 26 languages.

Marshall Masters, 2012 researcher and author, offers an in-depth look at the predictions made in a crop circled formation he calls the "2012 Star Map of Doom."

Known as Avebury 2008, it tells us that on Dec. 21, 2012, we will begin to experience the onset of a protracted global catastrophe. It will last for years and will include a pole shift, such as the one predicted by America's "sleeping prophet" Edgar Cayce.

For the readers of Marshall's book, Crossing the Cusp: Surviving the Edgar Cayce Pole Shift, this video offers an in-depth back story not included in the book.

Of course, most people are not panicking, and Maya expert David Stuart says no one should. The calendar, he says, has plenty of room to go. Bugarach where UFO and ET conspiracies gather
Friday is the last day of a 5,125-year cycle in the Mayan calendar, sparking talk about the possible end of the world. About two years ago, a rumor began circulating on the Internet that the French village of Bugarach, population 200, would be the only place to survive this apocalypse. But despite many news stories of people flocking to the village, less than two weeks before "doomsday," there was no one on the streets. Houses were shuttered against the cold.... For 40 years, [the mayor] says, people have been coming here looking for UFOs and extraterrestrials or the healing power of the mountain. Buddhist and Mayan Time
Wisdom Quarterly (COMMENTARY)
Mayan and Mesoamerican calendars are very sophisticated (freewebs.com).

Studying and calculating (lajhsslab.com)
Twenty-six hundred years ago the Buddha -- like the ancient Vedic seers of the Indus River Valley Civilization and the great Mayan Empire (part of a series of great cultures such as the Aztecs, Toltec, Olmecs, Incans, etc.) -- spoke of cycles of time. In Sanskrit these are referred to as kalpas

There are various cycles, all confusingly called kalpas. In detail, they are distinguished as great kalpas (maha kalpas), those of indeterminate length, and so on. Translated as "aeons," they break down into ages and epochs and other similar cycles.

In just the same way, the Mayan calendar is not simply a lunar-cycle annual timekeeper, or tzolkin with a 260-day cycle. The Mayan civilization's long-count calendar has cycles within cycles. The most important represents a recurring period of 26,000 years calculated by the precession of the equinoxes.

How to read the Mayan calendar
But the baktun is perhaps the best known. All that is happening in speaking of these cycles covering immense periods is illustrating the repetition of tendencies. Things are cyclical but not circular; they spiral. Sometimes they spiral out of control, yet they right themselves in time. Things devolve and evolve again. This is the intrinsic nature of samsara, the "Wheel of Life and Death."

We are now, and we will be again. However, and this is the unimaginable and unacceptable thing, it will not be us as such. Who will be came from us. It is us again, but we will not be the same. We will die, we are dying, and what we hold dear is lost here. But what we have been will come to meet us again (and again and again...).

Connecting with the Maya in Mexico (mexicotoday.org)
Things fall apart at every moment, and in the next moment something re-arises. What re-arises is almost the same but NOT quite identical.
So the stream goes with everything dying, something being reborn, but it is not us. Yet, we identify with and cling to what is now just as we identify and cling with what is yet to come.

Ultimately, we are not all this -- these forms, feelings, perceptions, formations, or consciousnesses -- and we will not be that either. But in the smoldering haze of ignorance it will seem that way, driven by fires of lust and the embers of fear/resentment. Far better, then, would it be to occupy ourselves with doing something about these three defiling influences -- greed, hatred, and delusion.

Asian New Year's: The Year of the Dragon

Wisdom Quarterly; Pacific Asia Museum
A naga king or royal dragon (Zensquared/Flickr.com)

January 23rd, 2012 marks the official New Year on the ancient lunar calendar(s) still in partial use throughout the world and in Asia in particular. This is the Buddhist year 2555.

This is the Year of the Dragon on the Chinese calendar, who may be returning on Dec. 21, 2012 as Quetzalcoatl, the royal flying serpent or naga in Buddhist cosmological terms.

New Year's is celebrated in the US between Jan. 14th through Feb. 4th. In fact, many modern countries, remnants of kingdoms and empires, have their own calendar and exact New Year's Day.

Anchorage Daily News via BuddhistArtNews; below, Chinese ceremony with dragon (phillymag.com)

Buddhists throughout Asia celebrate according to national calculations rather than the ancient Indian (Afghan, Gandharan, or Nepalese) New Year's celebration.

China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia (and all of Indochina) have their own customs and ways of marking the new year. But all include a visit to the local Buddhist temple. But instead of good luck rituals or making donations to support monastics, most Americans visit to meditate.
