Our History Is the Futurefeatures a new afterword by Nick Estes about the rising Indigenous campaigns to protect the environment from extractive industries and to shape new ways of relating to one another and the world.
In this award-winning book, Estes traces traditions of Indigenous resistance leading to the present campaigns against fossil fuel pipelines, such as the Dakota Access Pipeline Protests, from the days of the Missouri River trading forts through the Indian Wars, the Pick-Sloan dams, the American Indian Movement, and the campaign for Indigenous rights at the United Nations.
In 2016, a small protest encampment at the Standing Rock Reservation in North Dakota, initially established to block construction of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, grew to be the largest Indigenous protest movement in the 21st century, attracting tens of thousands of Indigenous and non-Native allies from around the world.
Its slogan Mni Wiconi — “Water is life” — was about more than just a pipeline. Water Protectors knew this battle for Native sovereignty had already been fought many times before. They also knew that even with the encampment gone, their anti-colonial struggle must continue.
While a historian by trade, Estes draws on observations from the encampments and from growing up as a citizen of the Oceti Sakowin (the Nation of the Seven Council Fires) and his own family’s rich history of struggle.

13 is bad. Be afraid! 666, bich!
Thirteen is scary. Friday (party night!) is scarier. Combine them and holy F. Festivities could get spooky. It's not that we suffer from triskaideka-phobia ("fearing and avoiding the number thirteen").
This phobia is one of the reasons we FEAR Friday the 13th (para-skevidekatria-phobia or frigga-triskaideka-phobia, from the Old Norse Goddess Frigg, whose day is Friday).
In 1910 Isador Coriat mentioned it in Abnormal Psychology, according to Wiki. The supposed unlucky nature of the number 13 -- which we were made to fear by the Church as it defamed our beautiful Moon, Earth's calendar with its 13 lunationsor repeatingphases, swapping it out with the solar Gregorian calendar, moving lunar calendars to lunisolar systems).
HOW MANY MONTHS IN A YEAR? Doodling at work, wondering how often I should get paid my annual salary -- a month being every four weeks -- I stumbled on a math fact hidden in plain sight: How long is 4 weeks? It's 28 days. What is that called? It's called a month. How many months (moonths) in a year? Uh, um, 12? NO! Thirteen: 13x28=364+1 New Year's Day for turning around like a swimmer turning laps in an Olympic pool.
Imagine a time when things made sense for the ancients. Our Moon Moon(Sin, Nanna, Soma, Chandra, Luna) was a calendar in the sky, the seasons came and went, the sun did its thing (going around in a halo, not over us, as depicted in ancient Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, Vedic cosmology, and the modern realization of hated genius Eric Dubay), the stars seemed to wander yet magically keep their positions as Earth, we are now told, spun at 1,000 MPH and wobbled and wiggled all through open space, while expanding with everything else). Hogwash. Here we are on a platform with things moving above us. The Moon and 13 are key, so to keep that from us, we must fear them.
Give us the Sun! We want the return of the Sun! We'll convert to Astrotheology and do whatever the Church says! Just bring back the Son with all your priests and their cult magic.
Time to break out the Edgar Allen Poe poetry.
Several authors claim fear of 13 is an older belief but have yet to produce evidence to document the claim. In fact, the earliest attestation of 13 being unlucky is found after the Middle Ages in Europe. So enjoy a dose of triskaidekaphobiauntil what we've lost becomes clear. This is the first FTT of the year after all. There will be one more (12/13/24) closer to Xmas.
California was overheating; now it's chilly.
Can't wait? Move to Dictator Maduro's new Venezuela, where he declared Oct. 1st as "Early Christmas" three months ahead of time in a bid to deflect criticism for taking over and the economy being bad. But imagine three extra months of the holiday season! That ought to cheer everyone up for smiley face authoritarianism rather than Orwellian truncheons and 1984 imagery.
(MythVision Podcast) Aug. 3, 2022 Harvard philologist says there was "no historical Jesus." His name is Dr. Carl A. P. Ruck (born Dec. 8, 1935, in Bridgeport, Connecticut). He is a professor in the Classical Studies Department at Boston University. He received his B.A. at Yale University, his master's at the University of Michigan, and his doctoral (Ph.D.) degree at Harvard University. He lives in Hull, Massachusetts.
Prof. Ruck is best known for his work along with other scholars in mythology and religion on the sacred role of entheogens (that bring out the divine from within), which are psychoactive plants that induce altered states of consciousness. They have been used in religious and shamanic rituals for millennia.
Dr. Ruck's focus has been on the use of entheogens in classical Western culture, as well as their historical influence on modern Western religions. He currently teaches mythology at Boston University that presents this theory in depth. #mythvision#historicaljesus#mythicist

Why is "Jesus Christ" so famous? Could it be that it's because he is unreal and an amalgamation of many historical (and mythological) figures? Who would those be?
Mithras (previously worshiped in the center of Rome in a place now dedicated to Jesus called the Vatican grounds, a tiny country officially called the Holy See, a city-state within Italy's Rome, now center of the Holy Roman Empire known as the Catholic Church),
Hermaphrodites...& Jesus
Maitreya Buddha (or the "Messiah" to come), Horus, and
many other astrotheological figures, who are anthropomorphic projections of astronomical and astrological information.
Jesus has been propped up, made white (a kind Thor, Zeus, Odic Nordic war god), and given stories and associated with circumstances made famous by others.
The story of Jesus Christ [christ being a drug term, according to biologist and classicist Dr. David C. Ammon Hillman, Ph.D., author of Chemical Muse, as a means "anointing" or dabbing on drugs to penetrate cut skin] has many fascinating similarities with ancient mythological figures, revealing common themes of a "virgin birth," resurrection (rebirth, reappearance), divine parentage, and savior or messianic roles.
The ancients used many drugs
These parallels, evident in mythologies from ancient Egypt to Greece and beyond, underscore a universal human fascination with divine narratives. Studying figures like Horus, Mithras, Dionysus, Krishna, the Buddha, and Osiris enriches understanding of Jesus’s [phony, synthetic] narrative within global mythology.
Scholar of Christianity Dr. Reza Aslan made a very clear distinction in his book. Zealot, about two different figures -- Jesus Christ of history and Jesus Christ of popular fantasy (biased theology, apology, and soteriology). Dr. Aslan attempted to get at the historical figure and leave aside all the myths built up on purpose (by the Church) and by natural human speculation about who this godman figure could have or might have been.

The Story of the Buddha – Prince Siddhartha Gautama – complete
(See U in History / Mythology) The "Enlightened One" or the Buddha was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha at age 35. He was born into a royal (kshastriya) family among the Scythians in the 5th century BCE in what is now [Bamiyan, Afghanistan, which at that time was Kapilavastu, part of Gandhara]. After confronting human suffering, he renounced his princely life in search of answers and enlightenment -- namely, why do we suffer and what can be done to bring about the end of all suffering? With six years of wandering ascetic practices and meditation -- practicing under two yogis, Alara Kalama and Uddakka Ramaputta -- under a sacred fig tree, awakened, achieved nirvana, and understood the causes and conditions of suffering (disappointment, woe, unsatifactoriness) and the path to liberation.
Jews and Christians are pro-sexual violence? God doesn't seem to mind.
.
Seduction of Dinah, Daughter of Leah (J. Tissot)
We cannot imagine anyone but Dinah as the victim, but does [the holy Judeo-Christian book] the Torah? Do rabbis?
Understanding the story of Dinah and its reception in historical context can help us reflect on the role of women in ancient Israel and the meaning of sexual violence in patriarchal societies, that one and this one.
Bible: It's OK to rape, just marry her afterwards.
Biblical Hebrew does NOT have a word for “rape,” but the Bible is aware of the fact that females can be forced to submit to sex [7].
This is clearest from the law in Deuteronomy about adultery with a betrothed virgin: It distinguishes between a sexual encounter in the city, which is presumed to be consensual (because no one heard her screaming) [8] and one in the field.
The latter is assumed to have been forced because she probably screamed but no one heard her. (She is given the benefit of the doubt) [9].
The term used in these cases for sexual coercion is “to grab hold of and lie with” (וְהֶחֱזִיק בָּהּ… וְשָׁכַב עִמָּהּ). The man’s crime is the same in both instances ("adultery"). Consent is only relevant to determine whether the woman is liable for punishment or not.
The point comes up in the next law as well, which offers a clear parallel for the case in the Dinah story: More

Did Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhist monks from Ladakh or Lhasa go in search of a tulku (incarnation of significant figures like the Dalai Lamas and Panchen Lamas)? In this case, it would have been baby Jesus of Palestine (Issa, Isa, Yshua, Christ), following a UFO or miraculous star or sign in the sky (astrological/zodiacal)? When a significant lama (monk) or rinpoche ("precious one" or "jewel") is to be reborn, he gives indications of where. And a search party is sent out to track him down, bring him back, verify it's him, and remind him of his mission to spread the Dharma (Timeless Truth) to save humanity. Tibetans think it is Avalokiteśvara(sex-changed and popularized as ChineseKwan Yin, called Chenrezig in Tibet, the Goddess of Compassion) being reborn over and over again. This is the basis of the American movie Little Buddha.
Theophany (Ancient Greek ἡ θεοφάνεια, Romanized theophaneia, lit. "appearance of a deity" [1]) is an encounter with a deity (deva, god, goddess), in which it manifests in an observable and tangible form [2, 3, 4].
Where the deity does not take tangible form (an outward manifestation), the broader term used for inward manifestation is divine revelation or divine inspiration [5] as when devas ("shining ones") or gandharvas(heavenly messengers in Buddhism) visit earth.
Not kings, not just three, but tales were added.
Where the god or goddess indwells in a human person, the terms used are divine incarnation, a Hindu avatar or, poetically, the personification of that deity [6].
Theophanies, tangible appearances of a deity, are distinguished from epiphanies, which are powerful internal changes in outlook caused by a theophany or other divine revelation [7].
Traditionally the term "theophany" was used to refer to appearances of the gods in ancient Greek and in Near Eastern religions.
While Homer's Iliad is the earliest source for descriptions of theophanies in classical antiquity (which occur throughout Greek mythology), the earliest description appears in the much older Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh [8].
While the Baháʼí Faith of India does not refer to any particular events of Theophany, it holds that "God" is manifest in the prophets .
The "Manifestation of God" is a concept that refers to what are commonly called "prophets," including, among others,
The Manifestations of God are a series of personages [Maitreyas, Messiahs] who reflect the attributes of the divine into the human world for the progress and advancement of human morals and civilization [45].
The Manifestations of God are the only channel for humanity to know about God, and they act as perfect Mirrors reflecting the attributes of God into the physical world, says Bahai [46]....
Hamza ibn Ali ibn Ahmad is considered the founder of the Druze and the primary author of the Druze manuscripts [52]. He proclaimed that God had become human and taken the form of man, al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah [53, 54, 51, 55, 56].
Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah is an important figure in the Druze faith whose eponymous founder ad-Darazi proclaimed him as the incarnation of God in 1018 [53, 54].
Divine appearances to animals
Human religious lore includes ancient literary recordings of deities appearing to animals, usually with the animals able to relate the experience to humans using human speech:
In numerous creation stories, a deity or deities speak with many kinds of animals, often prior to the formation of dry land on earth [57].
Human Hanuman and the great Monkey King
In the Hindu text the Ramayana, the monkey-headed human leader Hanumanis informed by deities, and usually consciously addressed by them [58].

Gravity is a Lie, Light Speed is Slow, Nothing is Real, and the Universe is Electric
(The Why Files) The Why Files: Operation Podcast. Since grade school, we’ve been taught that gravity is what keeps our feet firmly planted on the ground, but what if that’s all been a lie?
Buddhist wheel
I'm not saying if you jump off a bridge, you fall up instead of down. But what if Newton and Einstein were wrong and what really ties our universe together is not gravity but electricity?
The Electric Universe Theory says that, instead of gravity, the universe's true attractive force comes from invisible electric currents that surround our planet, our solar system, the galaxy, and...everything.
We are all living in one, giant, universe-spanning circuit.
Mainstream science ignores this possibility. But ignoring the electric universe blinds us to an unknown risk.
The myths of our ancestors describe cataclysmic, global disasters in the distant past.
They knew about the electric universe, too, not from science, but from experience.
And our ancestors have sent us a strange, but dire warning:
Beware the shocking fury of planet Saturn.
