Summer Solstice: summer begins (6/21)

(Wye Explorer) Stonehenge Summer Solstice 2026 | Over 20,000 Welcome the Sun

It occurs to us that this whole "summer" thing is a social construct. It is. What does "summer" mean. There are all those associations and connotations, but everyone knows it's when the sun's out, the clothes are mostly off, school is on break, and there's going to be a vacation, road trip, partying, and just plain old hanging around, maybe making some money.

It's a break from the routine. It's time away from the prison of the school system and the [bleep] warden who thinks s/he runs the place. Think of Project X or American Graffiti. Ah, summer, there's nothing like it. And this is Southern California, so all the more reason.

We say summer begins when school lets out. That was a week or two ago. Like gender assignment, who needs an objective measure? Well, many people do. And so we have the solstice, the astronomical measure that seems so scientific. But every American knows that summer begins on Memorial Day (May 25); that's the social reality overriding whatever others try to say is only objective and nothing else. It's both.

It runs through Labor Day (the unofficial end), a fake American holiday to remove Americans from the worldwide Labor Movement and May Day (May 1st), which idealistic socialists fight for, collectivists dream of, and New Age communists and college Marxists cheer for.

UCLA research on Easter Island finds meaning

We have degrees in looking good in bikinis!
Scientists believe they’ve uncovered the meaning of some of the Moai stone monoliths found on Rapa Nui, better known to Westerners as "Easter Island." Here’s the truth [so far].

Here’s what readers will learn when reading this story: Scientists believe they’ve uncovered the meaning of some of the Moai (giant stone statues) stone monoliths found on Rapa Nui (Easter Island).

  • The scientists analyzed soil in the vicinity of two of the Moai statues and found traces of banana, taro, and sweet potato, according to research published in the Journal of Archaeological Science.
  • These traces indicate the statues could have been used to celebrate the crop fertility of soils in the region.
  • The famed stone monoliths that tower over the island of Rapa Nui—colloquially known as Easter Island—have puzzled scientists for centuries.
  • But archeologists and soil scientists studying the ancient Moai now believe they’ve uncovered the meaning of the famous statues.
  • Clues in nearby soils suggest the statues may have been placed there to celebrate the fertility of crops in the area.
Remote island research is the best kind of work
For more than three decades, Jo Ann Van Tilburg of UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) has studied the origins of the Moai along with Rapanui artist Cristián Arévalo Pakarati and other members of the local community.

They recruited soil scientist Sarah Sherwood, of the University of the South in Tennessee, to analyze the soil the base of two statues found peculiarly perched upright in the Rano Raraku quarry on the eastern part of the island, where most of the more than 1,000 Moai statues originated.

(The scientists suspect that work in the quarry began around A.D. 1455). The team analyzed soils at the foot of two of the structures, which archeologists believe were erected by or before A.D. 1510 to A.D. 1645, and found chemical evidence of common food crops.

The soils revealed traces of foods like taro, banana, and sweet potato, according to research published in the Journal of Archaeological Science. More

Wisdom of Permaculture (Garden, CERN)

(Andrew Millison) How to see the hidden patterns of Nature (that's Mother NatureBuddha Nature not so much)
  • What in the world is "permaculture"?
Permaculture One: Perennial Agra
The book Permaculture One presents unique strategies for creating a food-producing system specifically suited to our needs, whether we garden in our backyard or engage in full-scale farming. By carefully designing a system around functional relationships between plant and animal species we can create a stable "cultivated ecology" suited to local conditions. This book provides a catalog of 130 trees and plants useful to a permaculture system. More

Permaculture is an approach to [sustainable farming] land management and settlement design that adopts arrangements observed in flourishing natural ecosystems. It includes a set of design principles derived using whole-systems thinking.

It applies these principles in fields such as regenerative agriculture, town planning, rewilding, and community resilience.

The term was coined in 1978 by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, who formulated the concept in opposition to modern industrialized methods, instead adopting a more traditional or "natural" approach to agriculture [1, 2, 3].

We can heal this and go natural. - Really?
Multiple thinkers in the early and mid-20th century explored no-dig gardening, no-till farming, and the concept of "permanent agriculture," which were early inspirations for the field of permaculture [4].

Mollison and Holmgren's work from the 1970s and 1980s led to several books, starting with Permaculture One in 1978, and to the development of the "Permaculture Design Course," which has been one of the main methods of diffusion of permacultural [money-making] ideas [5].

Starting from a focus on land usage in Southern Australia, permaculture has since spread in scope to include other regions and other topics, such as appropriate technology and intentional community (commune) design [6]. More: Permaculture - Wikipedia

But what's reality, really, CERN?

(Julia McCoy) Scientists at CERN discovered a hidden layer beneath reality [samsaric simulation?] -- and it won't disappear. AI can calculate a hidden substrate better than organic human scientists? Are we living in a simulation rather than a base reality?

Dried plants bring dead land to life

Vegetation restoration and its environmental effects on the Loess Plateau, China (MDPI.com)

How could dead and dried plant matter bring a mountain and a dry, dusty desert plateau back to life, making a wasteland lush with green plants and a restored ecosystem after its manmade ruin?

The Loess Plateau
[a] is in north-central China. It is formed of loess, a clastic silt-like sediment formed by the accumulation of wind-blown dust. It is located southeast of the Gobi Desert and is surrounded by the Yellow River. It includes parts of the Chinese provinces of Qinghai, Gansu, Shaanxi and Shanxi [4].

The depositional setting of the Chinese Loess Plateau was shaped by the tectonic movement in the Neogene period, after which strong southeast winds caused by the East Asian Monsoon transported sediment to the plateau during the Quaternary period [5].

The three main morphological types in the Loess Plateau are loess platforms, ridges, and hills [4], formed by the deposition and erosion of loess.

How could dried plants give life to dead mountain?
Most of the loess comes from the Gobi Desert and other nearby deserts [6]. The sediments were transported to the Loess Plateau during interglacial periods by southeasterly prevailing winds and winter monsoon winds.

After the deposition of sediments on the plateau, they were gradually compacted to form loess under the arid climate [4]. Loess Plateau

Crop Top Duo say Spirit Airlines is sexist

When Trump 'n Vance win and Project 2025 is implemented, will women have more or fewer rights?
Tara and Teri, the Crop Top Duo, threatened that they better get off for dressing like hot sl*ts.
.
See? We said being hot is hard! It never ends. Stop staring at our crops if you don't like it and leave us be on this hot no A/C preflight seating circus!

This how we handle in Russia: topless (Femen)
Two female American passengers claim they were kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight for wearing crop tops, accusing a[n effeminate] male flight attendant of sexism.

The passengers [neither of whom are named Karen] argue that there was no dress code violation and other passengers supported them, but the situation escalated leading to their removal from the plane without a refund. [Another woman who stood up for them and her child were also booted.]

You will get off my plane and respect my...
Two female passengers have accused a Spirit Airlines [male] flight attendant of sexism after he allegedly kicked them off a plane for their choice of dress, as seen in a viral video.

“It’s just humiliating having to be escorted and treated like a criminal just because we were wearing crop tops,” one of the flyers, whose name is Tara, said.

A video of the spat shows the flight attendants telling the pair to turn the camera off as they protest their purported ejection. “There’s nothing that says you can’t [wear] a crop top,” sputters one of the duo in the clip.

“Dude, just chill.” Teri [who goes by Teresa] wrote in the caption that “everyone else agreed though that there was nothing wrong with what we were wearing and that crop tops are not against their dress code.
“He then continued to treat us poorly and give us no reasoning as to why he wanted to kick us off,” Teri wrote. Tara agreed.

“Other passengers joined in and tried defending us, but ultimately a supervisor lied to us and told us either we would leave the flight or she would bring the police,” Teri explained.

Remote viewing, CIA offs JFK (Coast to Coast)

We didn't get him in Tampa. Let's do Dallas.
Investigative journalist Jerome Corsi (godsfivestones.com) joins weekend host Rich Berra on Coast to Coast (coasttocoastam.com, 9/7/24) to discuss DJ Trump's claim that as president he will release the remaining files on the JFK assassination if reelected.

[Trump didn't, and likely couldn't. release anything when he was previously in office, but voters are supposed to believe he'll be willing and able to release them next time if given another chance?]

Place of 24 hours darkness in Europe

Most depressing island! (24 hours of darkness) Svalbard
(Joe HaTTab) ● Svalbard: The Northernmost Town on Earth ● Come take a walk with me (Joe Hattab) around Longyearbyen, the largest town on the Norwegian islands of Svalbard

Parts of it look familiar, but make no mistake. This place is different. At 78 degrees north, it lies just 800 miles (1,300 kilometers) from the North Pole. And with over 2,000 permanent inhabitants, it is the northernmost real town on Earth.
There are only 50 km of road, including the small streets between houses, so people mainly get around the island on snowmobile. In fact, there are more registered snowmobiles than residents.

Anyone leaving town is required to travel with a gun and someone who knows how to use it because the islands are also home to polar bears.

The average daytime high is below freezing for all but four months of the year, and from the end of October to mid-February, the sun doesn’t rise at all. This is the long polar night.

Science: 1st European cities were vegetarian

Aristos Georgiou, Newsweek, 1/5/24; Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

What was there to eat in Europe?
Prehistoric humans living in Europe's earliest mega-settlements ate a diet that was almost 100% vegetarian, a new scientific study from Germany has found.

In the study, published in the science journal PNAS, a team of scientific researchers investigated the agricultural and economic system of ancient "mega-sites," which were built around 6,000 years ago by the Trypillia ("Three Fields") culture.

Moldova coat arms
That's [in the cold Kiev Oblast, formerly part of Russia's Soviet Union] in what is now Ukraine and Moldova in Eastern Europe.
These early European cities covered up to 320 hectares (791 acres) and housed as many as 15,000 inhabitants.

At the time, the mega-sites were the largest settlements in the world, according to the study [though probably smaller than countless megacities in the Amazon now being discovered in the Americas/"New World" using LiDAR technology].

Each of the mega-sites existed for multiple generations. But to date, the economy of the Trypillia settlements has remained poorly understood, particularly when it comes to how exactly the mega-sites' inhabitants sustained themselves with food.

Those inhabitants were largely farmers who grew crops and raised livestock. But how could such large groups of people have secured their food supply with the technology available at the time?
  • [This is an odd question since the larger an organism or population, the more likely it is to be vegetarian to sustain itself -- e.g., the whale, gorilla, cow, water buffalo, and formerly the grizzly bear -- because it is much more efficient in terms of its impact on the environment. Imagine, e.g., all the grain, not to mention the water and other greens, needed to convert to just one pound of animal flesh. If humans ate that grain directly, they would be far healthier and many more of them could be fed.]
The latest study has shed new light on this issue, finding that the mega-sites survived thanks to an "extremely sophisticated food and pasture management" system, Frank Schlütz, a paleoecologist at Germany's Kiel University and one of the authors of the study, said in a press release.

The team came to these conclusions after analyzing nitrogen and carbon isotopes in human remains, animal bones, and charred crops found at Trypillia ("Three Fields") settlements, which enabled them to shed light on their ancient food webs.

Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons.
Here's what the ancient diet was like throughout history
In the 1970s, a gastroenterologist created an eating plan that was supposed to imitate the Paleolithic diet, but he got many things wrong.

For instance, he assumed that ancient people didn't eat wheat [a high source of toxic gluten, a plant lectin used to protect itself from being eaten].

This proves that many people don't understand how ancient humans ate.

The human diet progressed far earlier in history than most people think. For instance, people have cooked for at least one million years, and Neolithic people processed milk [a source of hard to digest lactose, which most humans do not have the enzymes to process after they have been weaned from their mothers].

Most may be surprised how early people hunted, cooked, and farmed. Read on to learn how diet devolved throughout human history.
