Happy Festivus 2025 (Seinfeld)

Jerry Stiller was funnier than Ben
Festivus
(/ˈfɛstɪvəs/) is a secular holiday celebrated annually in America on December 23 as an alternative to the perceived familial pressures and rampant commercialism and phoniness of the Christmas (Xmas) season.

Originally created by author Daniel O'Keefe, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 Seinfeld episode called "The Strike" [1, 2].

Festivus pole (complete)
In it, George's disgruntled Jewish dad, Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller), makes the whole country laugh with recognition by actually doing something to oppose Christian-Pagan Xmas mass consumerism. O'Keefe's son, Dan O'Keefe, co-wrote the immortal episode.

The anti-commercial holiday's celebration, as depicted on Seinfeld, occurs on December 23rd and includes a
  • Festivus dinner,
  • an unadorned aluminum "Festivus pole,"
  • practices such as the "airing of grievances" and "feats of strength," and
  • the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles" [3].
Don't call me Jewish! I'm a Festivite now.
The episode even has a tagline for all anti-Xmas folks who want to join the cultural revolution against humbug, Christmas fakery (and Chanukkah/Hanukkah mimicry of what the Goyim/Gentiles are up to), and commercial profiteering: "Festivus for the rest of us!"

It has been described both as a parody holiday festival and as a form of playful consumer resistance.[4] Journalist Allen Salkin describes it as "the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering" [1]. More

(The Jimmy Dore Show) Due Dissidence reports on a historic first: Jewish group (AIPAC) complains about getting its money back. Daring Rep. Seth Moulton decided to return money, bribes, inducements to do the bidding of Zionist Israel, rejecting its funding so that he could be independent and concern himself with American interests rather than supporting Zionist Jewish ones.

Crop Top Duo say Spirit Airlines is sexist

When Trump 'n Vance win and Project 2025 is implemented, will women have more or fewer rights?
Tara and Teri, the Crop Top Duo, threatened that they better get off for dressing like hot sl*ts.
.
See? We said being hot is hard! It never ends. Stop staring at our crops if you don't like it and leave us be on this hot no A/C preflight seating circus!

This how we handle in Russia: topless (Femen)
Two female American passengers claim they were kicked off a Spirit Airlines flight for wearing crop tops, accusing a[n effeminate] male flight attendant of sexism.

The passengers [neither of whom are named Karen] argue that there was no dress code violation and other passengers supported them, but the situation escalated leading to their removal from the plane without a refund. [Another woman who stood up for them and her child were also booted.]

You will get off my plane and respect my...
Two female passengers have accused a Spirit Airlines [male] flight attendant of sexism after he allegedly kicked them off a plane for their choice of dress, as seen in a viral video.

“It’s just humiliating having to be escorted and treated like a criminal just because we were wearing crop tops,” one of the flyers, whose name is Tara, said.

A video of the spat shows the flight attendants telling the pair to turn the camera off as they protest their purported ejection. “There’s nothing that says you can’t [wear] a crop top,” sputters one of the duo in the clip.

“Dude, just chill.” Teri [who goes by Teresa] wrote in the caption that “everyone else agreed though that there was nothing wrong with what we were wearing and that crop tops are not against their dress code.
“He then continued to treat us poorly and give us no reasoning as to why he wanted to kick us off,” Teri wrote. Tara agreed.

“Other passengers joined in and tried defending us, but ultimately a supervisor lied to us and told us either we would leave the flight or she would bring the police,” Teri explained.

Atheist "denominations" explained (video)

Atheist "denominations" explained
Is there freedom from religion in America?
(UsefulCharts) Feb. 23, 2024: There are no "denominations" of any religion or nonreligion other than Christians, who have over 200 in the U.S. alone, with many more sects and offshoots ("splitters"). But for the purposes here, the term is being used to signify schools and groups in general. So there are the Humanist Atheists and the megachurch of the Scientist Atheists, Nontheists (aka some Buddhists) and Anti-Theists (Secularists but not Satanists, who all believe in God or else what's the point of opposing and following the prophesized Antichrist?), Materialist Atheists and Nihilist Atheists (who believe we exist by chance and will all cease to exist and enter oblivion at death), those darn Snarky Standup Comedian Atheists and the lowly Spiritual Atheists who don't believe in God because they heard the XTC song "Dear God" and really liked it.

Losing My Religion: The Great De-Churching

Jason DeRose, NPR, 1/24/24; CC Liu, Dhr. Seven, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
You sons of vitches, God wants you to obey me and send in those donations and tithe checks!

.
When Americans are asked to check box on their religious affiliation, 28% now check 'none'
Forget this bull cr@p. Religion sucks walls!
A new study from Pew Research finds that the religiously unaffiliated (a group comprised of atheists, agnostics, and those who say their religion is "nothing in particular") is now the largest cohort in the U.S.
  • Let me in -- or else. I am thy ruler and Boss!
Freedom from religion is freedom of religion. Buddhism is not a religion, so does that include Buddhists? Very likely it does because people customarily treat Buddhism as a religion, make a religion of it, and this is probably for the best in keeping the Dharma (the historical Buddha's Teaching) in the world. But for the individual, it might be better not to treat it religiously and hypocritically but as a practice (sadhana) with immediate results and benefits open to all. It is not a "faith" to profess but a Teaching to put into practice. For one who does not practice the Teaching, what benefit could there be...winning arguments against others? There's a famous saying, "Don't be like a drunk who uses a streetlamp for support rather than illumination." There's no need to be right. There is a need to know and see things as they really are. Then we help ourselves and everyone around us, living with integrity (non-hypocritically) approaching enlightenment and making merit (profitable karma) that is of great fruit, of great benefit in any future circumstance.
Is this someone's idea of a joke?  forbid atheism...or else!
.
Atheist (Stephen Batchelor)
Nones are more prevalent among American adults than Catholics (23%) or evangelical Protestants (24%).

Back in 2007, Nones made up just 16% of Americans, but Pew's new survey of more than 3,300 U.S. adults shows that number has now risen dramatically. Researchers refer to this group as the "Nones." More

Choose a practice that makes sense. Test it. Do it sincerely. Do it daily. Does Dharma work?
More than 20% of those surveyed describe themselves as "spiritual but not religious." The study finds a wide variety of religious experiences and expressions among those who consider themselves "spiritual" (Ted Shaffrey/AP).
.
Free of religion, I get to misbehave (Family Guy)
The terms "spiritual" and "spirituality" have been difficult for researchers and scholars of religion to define. Does being spiritual involve a sense of wonder ["awe" rather than "fear"]?

Does spirituality include a feeling of well-being or peace? Does either require the belief in a God or a Higher Power?

The terms seem so elastic as to include any number of disparate ideas or experiences.

Can nontheistic Buddhists be atheists?
A new study from Pew Research explores what the term "spiritual" means to the people [Americans] who describe themselves that way.

It also looks into the beliefs and practices of those who say they're "spiritual but not religious."

No, Dummy, where are you going?! - I like church. It gives me a sense of community.
