Over 30 days ago, community members set up "Occupy ICE LA 24/7" at the Metro Detention Center on Alameda (Downtown Los Angeles), where DHS officers are stationed.

Protesters are monitoring DHS activity around the clock, alerting neighbors when raids occur, and supporting families whose loved ones are detained at the MDC.

An 8-foot-tall black metal fence was installed along the perimeter of the driveway leading to the Metropolitan Detention Center (a federal detention facility) in downtown Los Angeles—often referred to as the LA Detention Center.

Details of the installation: The fence was erected this Thursday (i.e., today), suggesting a deliberate effort to reinforce perimeter security. Multiple sources, including Threads and TikTok outlets, confirm the fence's appearance, noting its placement along the driveway area of the federal facility.

Anyone expecting a bloodbath was relieved this morning that police, led by the LAPD, exercised restraint in abusing student demonstrators at the UCLA encampment on campus. Students for Palestine had explosives hurled at them the night before, and although this violence was brought to them from the outside, it was used as a sufficient pretext to declare the gathering unlawful. Everyone was threatened with arrest and worse.

Give thugs guns. Don't be surprised they kill.

More than 500 cops (some say 800) rolled in like stormtroopers dressed for the riot they were there to provoke. Students held their ground, but eventually, after 1:00 am, police began the violent take down of the camp and tents, kettling students and subjecting them to arrest. Most students managed to get away, but those who were arrested report police abuses and brutality. Will wealthy parents step forward and defend their children in the court system or simply take it on faith that the paramilitary force did no more than was absolutely necessary to take youngsters into custody? At least those students now know what many of us had to learn long ago -- police do not arrive to protect but to impose obedience using the threat and exercise of violence. So next time victims of police abuse report it, take it as very likely to have happened. Mayor Bass was going to call out the National Guard, but fearing another Kent State massacre, they decided to be much nicer than they usually are.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador blamed the fire on the men who were being held at the detention jail, alleging that they set their mattresses on fire to protest conditions, while U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar claimed the tragedy was a consequence of "irregular migration."

The deaths in Mexico came just hours after the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees urged the Biden administration not to adopt a proposed anti-asylum rule that would turn more refugees away at the border.

Former Los Angeles County Undersheriff [and current Vikings gang member] Paul Tanaka, now on trial in federal court in downtown L.A., took the witness stand Friday [April 1] to deny accusations that he obstructed an FBI investigation into deputy [violence and] misconduct in the jails [he was in charge of running for now deposed Sheriff Baca, who is awaiting sentencing].

Tanaka, the former second-in-command, is charged with obstruction of justice and conspiracy in a sweeping federal investigation into abuses and corruption in L.A.'s jail system. Federal prosecutors have accused Tanaka of masterminding a plot to thwart the FBI's investigation into the jails — largely by moving a jail information from jail to jail to keep him away from investigators.

They've also accused Tanaka of creating a culture of violence in jails and turning a blind eye to deputy misconduct. Eight former department employees have already been convicted for their roles in the case. Tanaka's ex-boss, former Sheriff Lee Baca, pleaded guilty to lying to investigators and will be sentenced next month.

Tanaka testified for nearly three hours in what was the main event of the day, according to Celeste Fremon of Witness L.A., who's been following the trial. The prosecution rested Friday morning after a week and a half of testimony on Tanaka's alleged crimes.

Tanaka answered questions trying to dismantle the structure of the prosecution's arguments Friday, Fremon said. The judge began to allow cross-examination, but when prosecutor Brandon Fox started to ask about Tanaka's involvement with the deputy gang known as the Vikings, the defense objected. More + AUDIO

Both engaged in felonies, but Baca was smart enough to make a deal, plead guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for a sweetheart deal, and is awaiting sentencing. But Tanaka failed in his election bid to succeed Baca and is now exposed. Seven previous sheriff and L.A. Men's Jail officials have already been found guilty and sentenced. Tanaka is next, and he is dropping the criminal "code of silence" and blaming Baca. But it's too late. Baca already made his deal, and Tanaka as a minority is set to become the sacrificial lamb. Police often commit crimes, but when the pressure gets really bad one member of the force, almost always a racial minority is sent to slaughter to prove that police can police themselves. They cannot. Tanaka tried to lie his way out of it, but he failed on the stand. He is to be sentenced soon. The Occupy Movement was against criminal bankers and police state troops. And what has happened since the parks were occupied? The slow hand of justice has turned on the very officials that run the show -- bankers, money managers, cops, sheriff's deputies. Occupy said, "There's the problem right there, right in the officials most people put their trust in." What chance do we have if we keep believing liars? Vote for Hillary Clinton and face four to eight years of more-of-the-same? Obama was a great disappointment, promoting Bush Administration policies and seeing them through. A bigger, badder NDAA 2014 quietly passed the House and Senate, and it is on the way to Obama’s desk.

 

While everyone is distracted with the holiday festivities, Congress has been hard at work [selling out the citizenry] in the name of national "security."

Yesterday [Dec. 20, 2013], the 2014 National Defense Authorization Act was fast-tracked through the Senate, with no time for discussion or amendments. As it’s Christmastime and the end of the week, our representatives brought it up and passed it quietly so as to quickly recess for the holidays -- and, no doubt, to avoid protests from the public. The new version of the NDAA had already been quietly passed by the House of Representatives.

 

It authorizes massive spending, including $527 billion in basic defense spending for the current fiscal year (not including black operations not reported on the regular books), funding for the US/JSOC war on Afghanistan, and funding for nuclear weapons programs.

Under what authority? The new NDAA gives us all the authority we could want.

  

The indefinite detention allowed by the original NDAA is still here, and it’s actually worse now: There are new provisions that will make it easier for the government to target those who disagree, dissent, or demonstrate.
