Ireland's prehistoric site, Europe's largest?

We've more and older archeology than England?
It seems that ancient Irish tales of "hollow hills" (underground caverns in mountains, as in Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" where ogres and supernatural beings dwell) are true. There are hillforts throughout the Emerald Isle. And the largest ever found in Northern Europe has just been uncovered, and it's massive.

Ireland discovery: the largest site ever
What, our pre-Christian roots go way back?
A vast prehistoric settlement hidden in the hills of County Wicklow is forcing archaeologists to rethink how people lived in Ireland more than 2,700 years ago.

What began as a closer look at a single hillfort has revealed a sprawling complex of ramparts, houses, and enclosures that specialists now say may be the largest clustered village ever identified in Ireland and Britain.

The scale of the discovery, and the suggestion that it could be the biggest prehistoric site of its kind in Northern Europe, is already reshaping debates about when urban-style living first emerged on the Atlantic edge of the continent.

We Irish Paddies stand with Palestinians!

The Wicklow hill that turned into a mega‑site
Baltinglass hillfort archeological site (monumentalireland.ie)

The story starts with a familiar landmark in the Irish landscape, a hillfort in Baltinglass that locals have long known as a dramatic feature above the County Wicklow countryside.

Archaeologists had catalogued it as one of several prominent fortified sites in the region, but new survey work has shown that the hilltop is only the core of a much larger complex.

What once looked like a single enclosure now appears to sit within a dense cluster of prehistoric houses and additional earthworks that extend across the slopes and surrounding ridges. More

Shattered megaliths in Buddhist Laos

Vat Phou's shattered megaliths: Clues to an ancient catastrophe in Laos
Secrets in Stone Podcast
(Secrets in Stone) Nov. 26, 2025: Secrets in Stone Podcast. Join me on a solo adventure to Vat Phou, a remote UNESCO site in southern Laos. This isn't your typical temple— it’s a lost megalithic sanctuary with serpent carvings and a peculiar crocodile stone, precision stonework, evidence of lost technology and signs of an ancient catastrophe that tilted boulders and reshaped the landscape. I'll walk you through the site's terraces, barays, and scattered ruins, sharing firsthand observations. Could this site predate the inscriptions by centuries or more, built by a lost ancient culture? From lathe-marked spindles to LiDAR, we'll explore why Vat Phou feels out of sync with other ancient sites in the region.

Wall 80x bigger than Great Wall of China

(Motech) A wall 80 times taller than the Great Wall of China was just found in Siberia
  • Where was Greater Tartary/Tartaria?
This is not the only super wall far bigger than the massive Great Wall of China, east of Siberia and west of the United States (in formerly Russian Alaska). There is an underwater ridge discovered with Google Earth.
Gornaya Shoria megaliths

Blocks or natural perfect right angles?
The Mountain (Gornaya) Shoria megaliths are rock formations found within the Shoria Mountains (Gornaya Shoriya, Russian Горная Шория) region in the southern part of Kemerovo Oblast in southern Siberia, Russia [1][2].

The Gornaya Shoria megaliths, also known as the Surak-Kuilum megalithic complex and by other names, form the ridge crests and summit of Mount Kuylyum (Kuilum, Kulyum, Russian Горна Куйлюм), 3,947 feet (1,203 meters) in elevation.

Giants are unreal, except this one
The base of this mountain is located 8 km from the village of Orton (Russian Ортон). Mount Kuylyum is part of the Kulyum-Surak granite massif in the Shoria Mountains.

The ridge crests and summits of this massif range in elevation between 2,297 and 3,947 feet (700 and 1,203 m) [3].

Articles claim these rock formations are gigantic prehistoric human-made blocks or megaliths [4].

Geologic mapping of the ridge crests and summit of Mount Kuylyum by geologists, conducted in the late 1990s, identified these rock formations as denudated prepared ridges (Russian Денудационные отпрепарированные гребни и гряды), which are ridges created by the natural and differential erosion of local bedrock [5].

[So nothing to see here; please go away.] More: Gornaya Shoria megaliths

America's 1st pyramid megacity: Cahokia

Chromesun, Mississippian priest (digital painting)

What happened to America’s first megacity?
(PBS Terra) Nov. 21, 2024: Overview. In its prime, Cahokia was a prosperous mega-city with a population similar to London’s.

But this sprawling Native American metropolis from the Mississippian culture vanished long before European settler-colonial invaders arrived in North America. What happened?

This Indigenous city’s enigmatic rise and fall has inspired countless theories and has long captivated the imaginations of archeologists.
  • [The pyramids in the U.S. were beheaded (the peaks destroyed) by arriving Catholic priests and soldiers who did not want to face up to what amazing advanced technology the Indigenous non-humans had developed with their amazing architecture and alignments, so they were tortured, killed en masse in a slow genocide that continues to this day along with cultural erasure.]
Now, cutting-edge scientific research offers a glimmer of hope in unraveling the mystery of Cahokia's disappearance.

Hosted by Joe Hanson from Be Smart, Overview uses stunning 4K drone footage to reveal the natural and human-made marvels shaping our planet -- literally from a 10,000-foot view.

Giants lived on Catalina Island, L.A.

The Giants of Catalina Island | Prehistoric Mysteries on California's Channel Islands
(MegalithomaniaUK) This is a new documentary exploring the mysteries of Santa Catalina Island (Pimu) 25 miles from the mainland beach in coastal San Pedro, Los Angeles County.
Los Angeles' Channel Islands have turned up hundreds of controversial discoveries; not only thousands of giant skeletons (over 8 feet long), but a prehistoric stone circle, incredibly ancient carbon dating, and evidence of historic red and blond-haired white islanders.

Thousands of giant skeletons, Indian artifacts, and evidence of occupation going back as far as 9,000 years have been scientifically recorded on the islands, with human occupation possibly dating as far back as 30,000 years before the present.

The story is intriguing and controversial, and it stars amateur archeologist Ralph Glidden and his bizarre museum of bones and artifacts on Catalina Island. But a few years before that, a German naturalist got the story going in 1913.
Dr. A. W. Furstenan unearthed an 8-foot skeleton with artifacts such as mortar and pestles and arrow heads on Catalina. He was told of a legend while in Mexico of a giant and noble race that lived on the island that existed long before the white man (European arrival) and had since vanished.

The film features Hugh Newman and Jim Vieira, authors of Giants on Record, ancient symbolism researcher Jj Ainsworth and Native American islander Mason Sanchez Lassos, a member of the Tongva/Gabrielino Tribe.

Life in Los Angeles circa 1880 (video)

Woman born in 1878 talks about her childhood in Los Angeles in the 1880s
How could Belle Buford remember so far back?
(Life in the 1800s) Mrs. Belle Buford Thom Collins was born in 1878 in Los Angeles (which she pronounces, as many whites used to, "Loss An'gless"), California. She speaks about her childhood in the Los Angeles of the 1880s. Her father, LA Mayor Cameron Erskine Thom (1825-1915), who served L.A. between 1882 and 1884. Mrs. Collins' niece, Rowena, speaks in the beginning of the recording.

Euro legacy of racism? Implicit bias: LA Times reckons with its record on race and racism

(Los Angeles Times) Sept. 27, 2020: The big LA newspaper is taking an unflinching look at its history, as institutions across America reflect on racial inequality and the legacy of past harm lingering today.

Whites do not know much about it because they were not the ones who had to suffer it so much as being the ones whom the system privileged and gave advantages to. Now we see widespread gentrification as the climax of a slow genocide of Natives is reached. There are three groups that are prominent in this:
  • the white European settler colonialists,
  • the residual brown Mexicans from this being Mexico for so many centuries, and
  • the red Indigenous (Indian, Native Americans, First Nations) peoples who have been here the longest.
The picture is complicated by the fact that the Spanish (from Europe's Iberian Peninsula with its strong ties to imperial Rome and the priestly and banking arm of the military known today as the Holy Roman Catholic Church) blended European and Indian blood to such an extent that nearly all Mexicans living here now are a blend of two peoples.

Racist Glendale, an LA Sundown Town, is where
as teenagers my white girlfriend and I hung out.

(The Casta system survives only now it deal metes out privileges and punishments in a less than overt ways, whereas in the past it was enforced by laws on the books).

There's no dividing us now even in a white-majority hegemon that screams, "We're a minority now like everyone else!" We are not because what happened was a statistical trick of the count. Suddenly, whites got put on one side of the scale and everybody else (the Hispanics, Latinos, Chicanos, Blacks, Asians, Middle Easterners, and sundry other groups, such as the very exclusive Ashkenazi crypto-Jews who with others pass and blend and largely go unnoticed, from all over the country and planet) got put on the other side.

And whaddyaknow?! Suddenly whites were in the minority. But they never have been. Each group is a group, and white continues to be the biggest group. Anyone can see that just walking around Los Angeles or going to the beach. One sure see a lot of diversity, but mainly what one sees are whites, white privilege, white fragility, whites screaming "reverse racism!" while filming The Daily Wire video shorts on the UCLA quad and campus environs.

Banks didn't tell citizens about their secret practice

We are only saying that any mention of Los Angeles cannot leave out its legacy of racism, privilege, criminal police (LAPD) and Sheriff Department abuses, real estate abuses (that redlined different racial groups into different parts of the county and city by design with the aid of bank loan officers). What we have today is the result of decisions made in the past. The legacy of Spain's racism in Mexico, the Southwest, and in particular Alta California has a lot to do with it.

But new European arrivals were only too happy to continue those self-privileging policies and maintain the system by greed, aversion to others (xenophobia), and willful ignorance and delusion that we're a colorblind society that has moved beyond race and shouldn't even mention race because to mention it is racist. It is not racist. Racism is racist, and letting it fester is doing nothing about it. The first thing that needs to be done about it to bring about any kind of equality or equity is shining a light on it and remembering history.

Shake 'n Bake: classic Cali quakes, fires

If Las Vegas is Paiute for "lost wages," what does Los Angeles mean? "Lost angels" (WQ).
Like Led Zep, I'm goin' to California with an aching in my heart. Get me out of Podunk!

This must be Indonesian in origin, or Ring of Fire
Los Angeles is a nice place. Everyone should visit. Now is a good time, smoky skies and unstable ground, plus Hollywood's Avenue of the Stars (bronze plaques embedded in sidewalk cement getting walked on and making good photo ops. The beaches, while polluted with fecal contamination, are beautiful to see and make great photo ops. Think of the social media potential. Have them eating their hearts out back home! The largest fire in the state is raging nearby, but that only affects the mountain people. Lowlanders in the Valley don't care, except along the edges where civilization meets the foothills.
  • It's okay because only about 100,000 acres of SoCal are currently burning, and some of that is in the OC or San Berdoo, part of the IE
  • Malibu morning earthquake followed by many fun aftershocks
  • The Bridge Fire in zero percent contained at 50,000 acres and growing

State of emergency expands as western fires spread
(NBC News) Sept. 12, 2024: While cooler temperatures and lower winds have helped firefighters gain some control of three stubborn California wildfires, millions across the west remain on fire watch as Red Flag warnings remain in effect. NBC News' Dana Griffin reports from the fire line. #wildfire #California #fire

Unless one works in the DTLA skyline, those skyscrapers owned mostly by banks, one is not even going to notice the fires. The quakes are a different matter. They're amplified the higher up one is due to modern technology that absorbs the shaking on rollers. It's all de rigueur.

Griffith Park Observatory over Hollywood
There is that falsely flavored flour powder to make dead hunks of flesh crispy and tangy, so if we roll around in it during a temblor before the flames arrive, that's a kind of shaking and baking. Fire is not even necessary. It was 117 or more in the Valley a few days ago. LA is getting to be a kind of Phoenix West, which just set a record of 100+ degrees temps for 100 days in a row.

Catty Purry loves LA for flashy concerts
Wow, we're beachside in a bowl, a basin, with a breeze that swirls the particulate matter and smog, so we can't keep it up, but think of the views whenever it clears and the photo ops from Griffith Park Observatory and the hikes. LA needs a better slogan. "I Love LA" is silly and so last century. How about, "Come for the weather, stay for the girls"? They make good photo ops.

There are hidden waterways above LA, with waterfalls and pools. The LA River has rapids.
The beach view at sunset from Griffith, LA's own massive "Central Park"
See, it's a giant lake! - That's a reservoir, no entry allowed. It's fenced off and forbidden. - Oh.
Urban LA has many backwoods trails up north
Oh, the hiking! The trails make for nice photo ops with the latest iPone and its super digital camera and mic for recording everything for the cloud, AI, and whoever wants to review it. The fact of the matter is, when you arrive, we'll say: "Welcome to Southern California [now go home]." So if this becomes home, the laugh will be on us because you'll already be here. At least there are a lot of hidden Buddhist temples (List of Buddhist temples in the US).

(TheEarthMaster) Recent elevated earthquakes in SoCal is not a good sign

Guanyin Bodhisattva (nationsonline)
We just stumbled on one in the SGV City of El Monte (Spanish for "The Mountain," which is visible in the distance), a big Vietnamese one dedicated to Kwan Yin (Buddhism's Mother Mary figure), just like they love in Catholic French colonial Vietnam. It's bright and beautiful and on a tiny street near the intersection of Valley Blvd. between Garvey and Durfee. Keep going on Valley, turn right, and come upon a massive Theravada Thai Buddhist one, a hope, skit, and a hump from Hsi Lai, the largest (or second to BAUS in New York) Buddhist temple in the western hemisphere. They all make nice photo ops.

If Buddhism had "prayers," this could be one of them on the wisdom of loving-kindness.

What do Buddhist temples teach? (Devotion). What should they teach? (Principles).

10 Buddhist Principles: Nothing Can Affect Us NOW!
When will the next teaching buddha arrive?
(InnerLifeConsciousness) Summer 2024: What if we could learn some life-changing Buddhist principles just watching a short ASMR (possibly AI generated) video on the BoobTube? That would improve our lives all right.

The Buddha's wisdom helps practitioners achieve personal growth and mindfulness, overcome negative patterns and develop the Seven Factors of Enlightenment in this very life. But it's not intellectual or trying to grasp "principles" with defiled minds/hearts.

If we wish to see things as they really are, we first need to purify the heart/mind like cleaning off a lens. How can we clearly see what is and is not if the instrument we're using is all dusty and smudged with smut?
  • What if there were an eightfold path (ashtanga) to samadhi and another to enlightenment? The first is Integral Yoga, and the second is the Buddha's Noble Eightfold Path. Both work well simultaneously
Jen, you know this is not about your ego, hot body, or fame. Hello! This is a spiritual path.
Group sitting helped kickstart my personal practice in private. I'd better do a free 10-day retreat.
.
"Yoga" is not poses, which are only 1/8th of it.
Having wiped the lens, how do we discover the Buddha's timeless wisdom to navigate life's challenges? It begins by hearing. The ever hear the Dharma is a blessing. It is far more important to practice (to make more of the karma that enabled us to hear it in the first place), which begins by calm and mindfully (dispassionately observing what is, whatever it is) observing-without-reacting to everything around us.

Jennifer Love Hewitt, it's not about yoga pants.
When samadhi (stillness, unification of mind, superconsciousness) sets in, then the satipatthana or "Setting Up for the Four Foundations of Mindfulness" brings us to clear-seeing (vipassana).

Getting to calm is a field of endeavor (kammatthana) enough for most of us. Even relaxing is tough. But finding calm, there's every reason to keep going. Buddhism is the path of calm and insight. Insight, which is built on a foundation of samma-samadhi (right meditation), is what makes enlightenment possible.

Samadhi is not enlightenment though many mistake that initial bliss for spiritual liberation when there is so much more knowledge and freedom to come.

I'm so glad I found you. May I practice and gain enlightenment just like you?
Gone too soon, too soon. Now how will we ever awaken? Oh, the Dharma are the instructions?
