(FungBrosComedy) Let's analyze the first episode of a hit show in its second season and only getting better as the preview we saw proved.
- Is comedy serving as a necessary “spoonful of sugar” to get audiences to accept diverse casting as the norm?
- Or is comedy being used as a cloak to perpetuate racism?
- [Racism? White privilege? Implicit bias? Matt Damon sorry for explaining "diversity" to a black director (HBO's Project Greenlight)]
This Crawford Family Forum program features an advanced screening of the “Fresh Off the Boat” season premiere and follow it with a look at the long-term implications of the success of these shows and how their existence is changing how we all talk about race. What behind-the-scenes battles have taken place? And what’s next?

(Secrets of Nature) LAOS, Southeast Asia: 85% of the country is pristine nature, widespread forests, jungle wilderness, steep mountains, and wide river valleys, with cool high plateaus and savannahs. The primeval forests support fauna like something out of a fairytale, with elephants, tigers, leopards, and some of the rarest animal species on the planet. Unknown species discovered by science at regular intervals. In recent decades, the few large mammals to be described for the first time were all found in Indochina (between India and China), and experts assume that most of them are at home in Laos: wild oxen such as the saola and kuprey or the truong son munjak. No outsider has ever seen a living specimen of the latter. Its existence is only known indirectly, through skeletons, horns, and bag that are occasionally found in remote villages. Here is the Mekong, one of the last untamed rivers on Earth. Fed by hundreds of tributaries, it is one of the richest freshwater systems on the planet, comparable to the Amazon or Congo, where the Mekong catfish lives -- 9 feet (3 m) long, 661 lbs (300 kg), possibly the largest freshwater fish (naga) on Earth.

The upcoming relic display will take place on Friday at starting 6:00 pm at Wat Lao Buddharangsy, 3819 E. Service Rd., Ceres (maitreyaproject.org).It's an exciting exhibit, said Chanthavilay Sanouvong, a 47-year-old Ceres resident who teaches children about the Theravada Buddhist tradition and Laotian language at the temple.
"It's so very special for the relics to be here," she said. "It's my first time to see them. I believe they bring healing and good luck. They can change the bad in your life to the good."
The relics, which next will travel to Tahoe City on July 8-10, and Sacramento on July 15-17, have been on display around the world for the past two years.

The tour is part fundraiser, with donations going toward the construction of a 500-foot-tall Buddha statue in [the ancient city where the Buddha passed into final nirvana] Kushinagar, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
According to a Web site, the statue will sit atop a throne building surrounded by a park and will include temples, exhibition halls, a museum, library, audio- visual theater and hospitality services. There also will be meditation pavilions, water fountains, and tranquil pools.
In Ceres, an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday will include a procession, prayers, candlelight, and blessings from monks, said Ven. Bounma Khamvongsod (pictured), a 71-year-old monk from Laos who has served at the temple for 25 years. Some of the relics, enclosed in special small display cases, can be placed on the crown of a person's head as a personal blessing. More

Laos schools turn Garbage into Money
AHMEDABAD, India (Dec. 28, 2009) - The way to go is green, and these kids are learning it young. Children from a Laos school are turning garbage into money. And another group from Thailand learns that planting trees as part of its curriculum.
Participating in 17th National Children's Science Congress, three students representing School for Gifted Students and Preparatory Studies, Laos is saving the environment by recycling most garbage collected on campus, says Savina Romyen.
They are part of the 10-member delegation from Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. "We have four dustbins in distinct colours to segregate collected waste. These items are either recycled, re-used and used for creating manure," adds Romyen. Another student, Fongher Herjalearn says, "In a month time, we collected more than 5 kg of plastic, which earned us 2,000 Lao kip."
Another four delegations from Thailand are all for planting trees. Pasu Loung Alarm, Bodin Luangtrirat, and Apiradee Chonwatthanakin presented a model of tree plantations embedded in their school curriculum. "Every year 3,000 students are admitted to our school, and each of them has to plant a tree on campus and take care of them throughout their study period," says Apiradee.
She adds that the model has been so successful that now students are encouraged to plant trees in their localities. Source
