Climbing Mt. Kailash: healing hot springs

Risking life on thrilling trek up south face of Mt. Kailash to touch the holy rock
Tibet Travel (Tibet Vista) Nov. 15, 2024: After touching the glaciers and rocks on the northwest slope of Mount Kailash, I headed to the south slope to touch her holiest rock and to worship at the 13 stupas [sacred Śarīra reliquaries] nestled inside the mountain's crevices. Two years ago, I made a wish here to promote the beauty of Tibet and its ancient Vajrayana Buddhist [Hindu and Bon] religious culture, and now I have achieved that.

My followers have grown to over 250,000, and more than 1,000 tourists from around the world have learned about and traveled to Tibet through my videos and traveled with me. This trek up the south slope of Mt. Kailash was incredibly thrilling and dangerous. In August, heavy snow fell from the sky, and I nearly slid off the steep and slippery rocks into a valley more than 50 meters (150 feet) deep. I believe my efforts were worthwhile. As a Tibetan guide, I have successfully led tourists from all over the world in over 60 Kora treks around Mt. Kailash. This is my second successful climb to the 13 stupas on the south slope. The 13 stupas, also known as the "Inner Kora of Mt. Kailash," are the holiest sites for Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims.

If YOU wish to explore Mt. Kailash in depth, I can take you there. It may be dangerous, but you can join me on this adventure for passion and faith, right? I believe in you. Contact me at jamyangtour@gmail.com. I will plan it all with you. Contact: Tibet Vista Jamyang Tour phone: +86 13989918639, email: jamyangtour@gmail.com. WeChat: Jamyang-1234.
ABOUT: I am Jamyang. I have been working as a tour guide with Tibet Vista Tour for 15 years. In 2020, during the Covid-19 global pandemic, I lost my job as a tour guide. With the support of the company, I immersed myself in filming videos and documenting the culture of Tibet. My goal is to share the beautiful landscapes of Tibet, Tibetan culture, and the genuine and enchanting lifestyle of the local Tibetans with people around the world who love and care about my beloved home country of Tibet. If you plan to visit Tibet, be sure to get in touch with me. I can show you the best and most authentic Tibet.

Shattered megaliths in Buddhist Laos

Vat Phou's shattered megaliths: Clues to an ancient catastrophe in Laos
Secrets in Stone Podcast
(Secrets in Stone) Nov. 26, 2025: Secrets in Stone Podcast. Join me on a solo adventure to Vat Phou, a remote UNESCO site in southern Laos. This isn't your typical temple— it’s a lost megalithic sanctuary with serpent carvings and a peculiar crocodile stone, precision stonework, evidence of lost technology and signs of an ancient catastrophe that tilted boulders and reshaped the landscape. I'll walk you through the site's terraces, barays, and scattered ruins, sharing firsthand observations. Could this site predate the inscriptions by centuries or more, built by a lost ancient culture? From lathe-marked spindles to LiDAR, we'll explore why Vat Phou feels out of sync with other ancient sites in the region.

Mindful Way: Theravada w/Ajahn Chah

The Mindful Way | documentary on Theravada Buddhism | Ajahn Chah
(Dhamma Source) This BBC documentary, made in 1977, shows the daily life in Ajahn Chah's monastery, Wat Pah Pong, in Ubon Rachathani, Isan (Northeast Thailand).

Ven. Chah Subhaddo (Thai ชา สุภัทโท, known in English as "Ajahn Chah," occasionally with the honorific titles Luang Por and/or Phra) is also known by his honorific name "Phra Bodhiñāṇathera" (Thai พระโพธิญาณเถร, Chao Khun Bodhinyana Thera) lived from June 17, 1918–January 16, 1992.

He was a famous Thai Theravada Buddhist monk, an influential teacher of the Buddha-Dhamma, and a founder of two major monasteries in the Thai Forest Tradition, Wat Pah Pong and an international meditation center specially for Westerners called Wat Pah Nanachat.
  • Ajahn Chah is the revered teacher of the great British monk Ajahn Brahm (formerly Peter Betts), now abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Australia, and the great American monk Ajahn Sumedho (Robert Karr Jackman), instrumental in the founding of Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England, and many other successful Western meditators.
Respected and loved in his own country as a monastic of great wisdom, he was instrumental in establishing Theravada Buddhism in the West.

Beginning in 1979 with the founding of Cittaviveka (England's Chithurst Buddhist Monastery) in the United Kingdom, the Thai Forest Tradition of Ajahn Chah has spread throughout the United States, Europe, and the British Commonwealth.

The Dhamma talks of Ajahn Chah have been recorded, transcribed, and translated into several languages. Read more about Theravada Buddhism on Dhammasource.com. Rights owned or controlled by The Open University.

Found in our Buddhist Grand Canyon

What scientists just found in the Grand Canyon shocks everyone
(The Savior) Nov. 21, 2024: The Smithsonian's Kincaid explored and found a great deal of "forbidden archeology," as Michael Cremo refers to it, about the true history of this land, a past rooted in Egyptian, Buddhist, and Hindu arrivals and the creation of a civilization we are not allowed to know about. The Hopi and other tribes, with help from Tibetan Buddhist missionaries and historians, may be aware of it, but we are not. Steve Quayle and other explorers dare to publish but are largely ignored by the mainstream for their "fringe" views. Never mind that the whole story was documented in writing at the time but the Arizona Gazette. That physical evidence still exists, and nearly all of the Grand Canyon is forbidden and off-limits. People have found caverns and cave tunnel systems through the region, and many prominent features bear Egyptian names. They seem to be degraded pyramids and manmade structures, visible from the rim. But we are fed a false narrative of natural erosion over a billion years or so.

Christian brothers want to motivate with this video that aims to leave viewers blessed, inspired, and encouraged as well as strengthening prayer life and daily walk with or without God. As you listen to this amazing video may JC light up your life. Why is our government concealing the truth of ancient history on this land?

Buddhism in Indian context: Alan Watts

Alan Watts: Buddhism, explained

Cosmology: 31 rebirth planes
(The Spiritual Press) Here is a lecture by Alan Watts which goes into depth about Buddhism in its various forms, as well as touching on
  • karma,
  • rebirth (commonly spoken of as reincarnation as if it were the same thing when it is not due to the impersonal nature of what is really happening as one reappears after passing away in whatever world or plane one has previously arisen in),
  • and other belief systems, particularly Vedic Brahmanism now commonly referred to as Hinduism, to contrast and compare in context.
Samsara in pictures: 6 general worlds
The "Buddhism" being described is actually just Mahayana Buddhism, rightly stating that it is actually a form of Hinduism (stripped for export), which is not what the historical Buddha (Shakaymuni, Siddhartha Gautama) actually taught but what the Brahmin priestly caste made of it after he attained to final nirvana. Theravada Buddhism and the many defunct Early Buddhist schools are not explained, as they represent only ten percent of Buddhists today, with 90% following the later developments that simply go back to the dominant Brahminical view that preceded the Buddha's great enlightenment (mahabodhi). While Theravada Buddhists consider themselves the original Teaching or Early Buddhism, it is not because they are a surviving "Hinayana" ("Lesser Vehicle") school but because it is a back-to-basics movement with respect to the historical figure's actual teachings, not later developments watered down as Hinduism or Vedic Brahmanism as modern Hindus and ancient Brahmins might prefer.

Eight Precept Lunar Observance (Sabbath)

Ven. Kantasilo (trans.), Uposatha Sila, written by Somdet Phra Buddhaghosacariya (Ñanavara Thera) (accesstoinsight.org); Amber Larson and Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
.
Lunar Observance Discourse (Uposatha Sutta)
Let's read the words of the Buddha.
Thus have I heard: At one time the Blessed One [the Buddha] was residing in Jetavana, the monastery of Anathapindika, near Savatthi. At that time the Blessed One, having called all the bhikkhus [meditators, monastics, monks] together, addressed them thus: "Meditators!" The monks answered in assent: "Venerable sir!" (The meditators then prepared themselves for the following teaching.) The Blessed One then gave the following teaching on Uposatha [the Sabbath Day observed each week according to the phases of the moon].

"Meditators, the Lunar Observance (Uposatha) is comprised of eight factors, which the noble (Ariyan) disciple observes, the observance of which brings glorious and radiant fruit and benefit.

"Meditators, what is the Lunar Observance which, observed by the noble disciples, brings glorious and radiant fruit and benefit?"

1. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine [Dhamma, Teaching, Doctrine-and-Discipline] reflect thus:

Killing is cool in Zionist-Judaism. Just ask Gal.
"'All enlightened ones (arahants), for as long as life lasts, have given up the intentional taking of life (panatipata). The club and sword have been laid down. They have shame (of doing wrong, doing harm) and are compassionate towards all beings.'

"All of you have given up the intentional taking of life, have put down all weapons, are possessed of shame (of doing wrong) and are compassionate towards all beings.

"For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the fully enlightened, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the first factor of the Lunar Observance."

2. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

Amazon's not stealing, Leo. - No, Jeff, yer girl
"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, have given up taking what has not been given (adinnadana). They take only what is given, are intent on taking only what is given. They are not thieves. Their behavior is spotless.'

"All of you have given up the taking of what has not been given, are ones who do not take what is not given, are intent on taking only what is given, are not thieves. Your behavior is spotless. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened one, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the second factor of the Lunar Observance."

3. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

But sex and war turn the world we live in.
"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, have given up [sexual intercourse or] that which is an obstacle to the supreme-faring (abrahma-cariya). Their practice is like that of a divinity (brahma). They are far from sexual intercourse, which is a practice of lay people.'

"All of you have given up that which is an obstacle to the supreme-faring and behave like a divinity. Your behavior is far from sexual intercourse. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the third factor of the Lunar Observance."

New breathtaking CGI from the Moon
4. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, have given up the telling of lies (musavada = false speech).
  • [It is not lies alone but "false speech," which elsewhere is more fully defined as 1) bearing false witness, 2) harsh speech, 3) divisive speech, and 4) idle or frivolous speech, all of which seems to earn it the shorthand label "lying." Full definition at the "Ten Courses of Unwholesome Karma"].
"'They utter only the truth and are intent on the truth [honesty, accuracy, factuality]. Their speech is firm and is composed of reason. Their speech does not waver from that which is a mainstay for the world.'

To deceive the world is a terrible thing.
"All of you have given up the telling of lies. You speak only the truth and are intent only on that which is true. Your speech is firm and with reason. Your speech does not waver from that which is a mainstay for the world. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the fourth factor of the Lunar Observance."

5. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

Nah, it's alright, Man, it's legal and I ani't drunk.
"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, have given up the taking of liquor and intoxicants (sura-meraya-majja-pamadatthana), of that which intoxicates, causing carelessness [negligence, heedlessness, leading to regrettable deeds]. They are far from intoxicants.'

"All of you have given up the taking of liquors and intoxicants. You abstain from drink which causes carelessness. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the fifth factor of the Lunar Observance."

6. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

What? But it's morning. Dawn has broken.
"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, eat at one time only and given up partaking of food in the evening [eat only during one period of the day, now set between daybreak and noon], but it was not always this way, and Buddhist monastics used to be allowed to eat in the evening until that was deemed too troublesome for donors and alms seekers]. They abstain from food at the 'wrong time' (vikala bhojana).'

"All of you eat at one time only [delimiting the span of time during which to eat not the number of meals, which usually includes breakfast and lunch] and do not partake of food in the evening. You abstain from food at the 'wrong time.' For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the sixth factor of the Lunar Observance."

7. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

What's wrong with lettin' loose?
"'All enlightened one, for as long as life lasts, have given up singing and dancing, the playing of musical instruments and the watching of [base] entertainments, which are stumbling blocks to that which is wholesome. Nor do they bedeck themselves with ornaments, flowers, or cosmetics.'

"All of you have given up singing and dancing, the playing of musical instruments and the watching of [base] entertainments, which are stumbling blocks to that which is wholesome. You do not bedeck yourselves with ornaments, flowers, or cosmetics. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the seventh factor of the Lunar Observance."

8. "Meditators, noble disciples in this Doctrine reflect thus:

"Large" means with space for more than one.
"'All enlightened ones, for as long as life lasts, have given up lying on large or high beds. They are content with low beds or bedding made of grass.'

"All of you have given up lying on large or high beds. You are content with low beds or beds made of grass. For all of this day and night, in this manner, you will be known as having followed the enlightened ones, and the Lunar Observance will have been observed by you. This is the eighth factor of the Lunar Observance."

What is enough to sleep on and be healthy?
"Meditators, the Lunar Observance is comprised of these eight factors, which the noble disciple observes, and it is [karma] of great and glorious fruit and benefit."

Thus the Blessed One spoke on the Lunar Observance. The meditators were delighted and rejoiced at his words. CONTINUED (EXPLANATION OF SUTRA WITH Q&A)

Ancient Buddha statue found in Egypt

Ancient Egypt is the home of many stone statues and sculptures, now including the Buddha

It's a long way from home. Since the first pharaohs ruled Egypt at the end of the 4th millennium BC, the country has worshipped a wide pantheon of gods and goddesses, but it has never, as far as we're aware, embraced Buddhism.

It raised a lot of eyebrows, then, when archeologists recently unearthed a two-foot (60 cm) tall Buddha statue while excavating a temple to the Egyptian Goddess Isis in the ancient port city of Berenike -- reportedly the first such statue ever found west of Afghanistan [where the Buddha was likely born, not Nepal as popularly thought, west of proto-India, because "India" did not come into existence until the Buddhist Emperor Asoka united disparate kingdoms and territories two centuries or more after the passing of the Buddha, circa 600 BC].

Founded in the third century BC and an important Red Sea hub, Berenike became particularly prominent after the Roman invasion of Egypt in 30 BC, and a steady stream of artifacts have been discovered there in recent decades.

What is Theravada Buddhism? (video)

Asangoham, 2/14/23; Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson, Ananda (DBM) (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

The ancient teachings of Theravāda Buddhism
(Asangoham) Feb. 14, 2023. Buddhism is a religion and philosophy that originated in ancient India and has since spread across the modern world.

Theravada Buddhism is based on the teachings of the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama.

The Buddha lived in ancient Gandhara (Central Asia) and traveled east to proto-India in the 5th century BCE. He was a prince, born into a wealthy and privileged family in the Shakya (Scythian) clan in present-day Central Asia (Scythia, Sakastan, Afghanistan, Pakistan).

However, he became deeply troubled by the unsatisfactoriness, disappointment, and suffering (dukkha) he saw all around him, in luxury and pursuit of sensual pleasures as in old age, sickness, and death.

He made a vow to find a solution to this problem of disappointment. So he renounced his royal palaces and left his circle of familiars -- parents, wife, child, friends, relatives, royal subjects, and familiar surroundings of his homeland (Shakya Land/Scythia) -- and all his worldly possessions behind and set off on a quest, a search to bring all suffering to an end, enlightenment/awakening, and the source of true and lasting happiness.

After years of intense study, contemplation, and practice, including many years of severe privations and austerities, the wandering ascetic Siddhartha attained a Great Awakening, glimpsed nirvana, and thus came to be called the Awakened One or the Buddha.

He found what he had been looking for -- the source of true and lasting happiness. From that moment on, the Buddha devoted himself to sharing this insight and the liberation it leads to with a monastic community of nuns and monks he established and with the many laypeople who gathered to learn from him, including his family back in Scythia.

The Buddha's teachings, known as the Dharma (Pali Dhamma), are centered on The Four Noble (or Ennobling = Enlightening) Truths and The Noble Eightfold Path:
  1. Life is unsatisfactory.
  2. The cause of this unsatisfactoriness is ignorance and craving.
  3. All unsatisfactoriness can be ended.
  4. The way to end unsatisfactoriness (the way to true and lasting happiness) is to practice the Ennobling Eightfold Path.
The Noble Eightfold Path is a set of virtuous, moral, ethical, spiritual practices. They are:
  1. Right understanding
  2. Right intention
  3. Right speech
  4. Right action
  5. Right livelihood
  6. Right effort
  7. Right mindfulness
  8. Right concentration
The Buddha offered the Four Noble Truths (the Noble Eightfold Path being the fourth) as a framework to understand the nature of our predicament (disappointment and suffering) and how to overcome it to awaken to wisdom, bliss, and complete liberation.

Oldest spiritual scriptures: Rig Veda (video)

New Thinking Allowed with Jeffrey Mishlove, June 10, 2019; Eds., Wisdom Quarterly

Understanding the Rig Veda with Debashish Banerji
(New Thinking Allowed with Jeffrey Mishlove) The guest is Haridas Chaudhuri Professor of Indian Philosophies and Cultures and Chairman of the East West Psychology Department at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco Debashish Banerji, PhD.

Prof. Banerji is the author of Seven Quartets of Becoming: A Transformative Yoga Psychology Based on the Diaries of Sri Aurobindo and also The Alternate Nation of Abanindranath Tagore, a book about his great grandfather.

There is much in the mind yet to fathom.
He edited an anthology about his great uncle, Rabindranath Tagore in the Twenty-First Century. His newest anthology is titled Critical Posthumanism and Planetary Futures. Here he discusses the cosmology inherent in what is arguably the world's oldest religious scripture, the Rig Veda, aspects of which are surprisingly modern.

He points out that the Vedas share many Indo-European traits. The ancient Greek pantheon is similar to Rigvedic deities, which predates it by millennia. Dr. Banerji refers to hymns celebrating the use of a mysterious bliss-inducing entheogen known as "Soma."

How shall we become Western mystics?
He elaborates upon the role of sacrifice in ancient India. He also notes that this ancient proto-Indian (Indus Valley Civilization) scripture can be viewed in a psychological context.

New Thinking Allowed Host Dr. Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is the author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man.

Vajrayana Buddhism is greatly influenced
ABOUT: Between 1986 and 2002 Dr. Mishlove hosted and co-produced the original "Thinking Allowed" public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in "parapsychology" ever awarded (1980) by an accredited university -- in this case the greatest public school in the world, the University of California at Berkeley.

He has served as vice-president of the Association for Humanistic Psychology and is the recipient of its Pathfinder Award for outstanding contributions to the field of human consciousness. He is also past-president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people are encouraged to cultivate and apply their inner, intuitive abilities.

Preserving Afghan Buddhist treasures

Al Jazeera English, July 6, 2020; Amber Larson and Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Preserving Buddhist treasures in Afghanistan
(Al Jazeera English) Some of the earliest statues of the historical Buddha [who grew up in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, which was part of ancient Gandhara, Indo-Sakastan, according to maverick Indian historian Dr. Ranajit Pal] are among precious items housed at the National Museum of Afghanistan. But the US estimates that nearly 70 percent of the treasures have been looted from the museum or destroyed during four decades of war or under strict [CIA-inspired] Taliban rule. Now historians at the University of Chicago and teachers in Afghanistan are working together to preserve what is left of this cultural pre-Islamic heritage. Al Jazeera's John Hendren reports.
