Science: AI decodes CROW language

(Galaxy Vault) Is a Crow a surprisingly intelligent "avian ape" smaller than a Raven?

Mahakala
Ven. Thanissaro (trans) edited by Wisdom Quarterly (Thag 2.16 PTS: Thag 151-152)

A swarthy woman,
[preparing a corpse for cremation]
crow-like and enormous,
breaking one thigh then the other,
breaking one arm then the other,
cracking open the head
like a claypot of curds,
sits with them heaped up beside her.

Whoever, unknowing,
makes acquisitions,
that fool
returns over and over
to disappointment and suffering.
Discerning,
making no acquisitions,
may I never again lie
with my head cracked open.

Sankicca
Ven. Thanissaro (trans) edited by Wisdom Quarterly (Thag 11.1 PTS: Thag 597-607)
What do you want in the woods, my boy?
You're like a bird [1] exposed to the rain.
Monsoons refresh you.
Seclusion is for those in meditative absorption (jhana).
As monsoon winds drive the clouds during the rainy season,
so thoughts concerning seclusion impel me.

A black crow, making its home in a charnel ground
[of corpses], inspires within me mindfulness
— rooted in dispassion for — the body [2].

One whom others guard not, who do not guard others,
such a monastic who lies down in ease, unconcerned
with sensual passions.

With clear waters and massive boulders,
frequented by monkeys and deer,
covered with moss and water weeds,
such rocky crags refresh me.

I have lived in wildernesses, canyons, and caves,
isolated dwellings frequented by predator and prey,
but never have I known an ignoble, aversive resolve:
"May these beings be destroyed, be slaughtered, fall into pain."
The Teacher has been served by me;
The Awakened One's bidding I have done;
This heavy load I have laid down;
The guide to becoming [3] uprooted.
And the goal for which I set forth from the home life into the left-home life
I have reached: the end of all fetters.
I delight not in death, delight not in living.
I await my time like a worker his wages.
I delight not in death, delight not in living.
I await my time mindful, alert.

NOTES
  • 1. Ujjuhaana. The Commentary offers two interpretations for this word. The first is that it is a hill covered with jungle and many streams that tend to overflow during the rainy season. The other is that it is the name of a bird that can stay comfortable even when exposed to cold, wind, and rain. The second alternative has been chosen here. K.R. Norman speculates that the term could be written ujjahaana, in which case it would be the present participle for a verb meaning "abandoned or cast off." However, none of the manuscripts support this speculation.
  • 2. In other words, the sight of the crow taking up residence in skulls and other body parts provided a chastening perspective on how the mind takes up residence in the body [for each rebirth in the sensual sphere].
  • 3. The guide to becoming [rebirth, relinking, rearising, reappearing, being reborn] is craving.

How to save a hummingbird (sutra)

SUTRA: The compassion of past buddhas (DN 1)
The wondrous kalaviṅka bird
...“When he was reborn, [the being-bent-on-supreme-enlightenment] the Bodhisattva’s voice was clear, gentle, and harmonious like the voice of a kalaviṅka bird.”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“He was like the bird of the Himalayas
That drinks flower nectar and sings.
The most exalted of bipeds [the Buddha]
Had a voice that was just as clear.

“When he was reborn, the Bodhisattva’s vision could see clearly as far away as a yojana.”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“As a result of practicing pure deeds [good karma],
He got the marvelous glow of a god [deva].
The Bodhisattva’s eyes could see
At a range of a one yojana.

“When he was reborn, the Bodhisattva grew up to adulthood and was educated in the way [of governing] in the royal hall. His favor reached the common people, and his reputation for virtue was heard [about] far away.”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“In the royal hall, that young man
Educated the world with the way.
He made a variety of decisions,
So he was called Vipaśyin.

His pure knowledge was vast
And deep like the ocean.
He delighted the mass of beings
And improved their wisdom.

Gandhara=Scythia=Saka Land
“At that point, the Bodhisattva wanted to go out sight-seeing, so he ordered his driver to prepare a chariot and horses to go tour a forest park. Once the chariot and horses were ready, the driver returned and said, ‘Now is a good time.’ The prince then rode in the precious chariot to the scenic park. While they were on the road, they saw an elderly man. His hair was white, his teeth had fallen out, and his wrinkled body was bent. He walked wearily with a cane and was short of breath.

“The prince asked his aide, ‘What sort of man is that?’

“He answered, ‘This is an old man.’

“The prince also asked, ‘What is “old”?’

“He answered, ‘Old age happens as the end of one’s life approaches. When there aren’t many years left, it’s called being old.’

“The prince asked, ‘Will I be likewise? Will I not escape this hardship [inherent defect in rebirth]?’

“He answered, ‘Yes, anyone born is sure to become old. It doesn’t matter if they are rich or poor.’

“The prince was disturbed and unhappy at that point. He told his driver to turn the chariot around and go back to the palace. He silently thought to himself, ‘To think I’ll also have to suffer being old!’”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“Seeing an old man, his life about to end,
Walking weakly with a cane,
The Bodhisattva thought to himself,
‘I’ve yet to escape from this hardship!’...

The Great Legend
Long Discourses of the Buddha (DN 1) Introduction
.
The Buddha Sakyamuni was not the only one
Thus have I heard: One time, the Buddha was at the Flowering Grove Hut in Jeta’s Grove of Śrāvastī [Savatthi]. He was accompanied by a large assembly of 1,250 monastics.

It was then that the monastics gathered in the Flowering Grove Hall after gathering alms. They engaged in a discussion with each other: “Venerables, the unsurpassed sage is so extraordinary! His miraculous powers are far-reaching, and his authority is tremendous. He has come to know the countless buddhas [supremely enlightened beings] of the past who have entered nirvāṇa, broken the bonds [of death], and eliminated idle speculation.”

“He also knows how many aeons [kalpas] ago those buddhas lived as well as their names, surnames, the clans to which they were reborn, the meals they had, the length of their lives, and what disappointment and happiness they experienced.”

“He also knows that those buddhas possessed such precepts, such principles, such wisdom, such liberation, and such abodes.”

“What do you think, friends? Does the Tathāgata [the Wayfarer, the Thus Come One, the Well Gone One, the Buddha] know this by discerning well the nature of things, or does he know these things because the gods (devas) come and tell him about them?”

The Bhagavān [the Blessed One, the Buddha] was in a quiet place at the time and clearly overheard the monastics having that discussion with his divine ear. He rose from his [meditation] seat, went to the Flowering Grove Hall, prepared a seat, and sat down.

He knew the answer, but the Bhagavān still asked them, “Monastics, what have you been discussing after gathering here?” The monastics then related to him what it had been.

The Bhagavān told them, “Good, good! With correct faith [saddha, confidence, conviction], you’ve left home to cultivate the path [to enlightenment and liberation], and you practice as you should. All of you have two types of conduct. The first is noble discussion of the Teaching, and the second is noble silence.

“This discussion of yours is as it should be: ‘The Tathāgata’s miraculous powers [are far-reaching,] and his authority are tremendous. He fully knows the events of countless aeons in the past. He knows it because he understands well the nature of things and because the gods come and tell him.’”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“Monastics gathered in the Dharma Hall
And held a noble discussion;
In a quiet place, the Tathāgata
Heard it all with his divine ear.

The Buddha sun’s light shines everywhere
As he discerns the Dharma realm’s meaning.
He also knows the past events of
The Completely Awakened and their nirvāṇa.

Their names, surnames, and families,
The births they received, I know, too.
The places where they had lived,
I recall them with clear vision.

Those gods of great authority,
Quite dignified in appearance,
Also come and tell me about
The Completely Awakened and their nirvāṇa.

Recounting their rebirths, names, and surnames,
Their kalaviṅka bird voices fully knew them.
To the Unsurpassed Sage of Gods and Humans,
They describe the buddhas of the past.”

Avians (Suparnas, Garudas) are diverse

The Seven Buddhas
He again asked the monastics, “Would you like to hear about the circumstances of past buddhas that the Tathāgata knows with the knowledge of past lives? I’ll tell you about them.”

The monastics said: “Bhagavān, now would be a good time for it.” “We’d be glad to hear it.” “Excellent, Bhagavān!” “If there’s time for a discourse (sutra), we’ll approve of it.”

The Buddha told the monastics, “Listen closely! Listen closely, and consider it well. I’ll discern and explain.” The monastics then accepted the teaching and listened.

The Buddha told the monastics, “Ninety-one aeons ago, there was a buddha named Vipaśyin who was the Tathāgata, the Arhat [fully enlightened], who arose in the world. Furthermore, monastics, thirty-one aeons ago, there was a buddha named Śikhin who was the Tathāgata, the Arhat, who arose in the world. Furthermore, monastics, thirty-one aeons ago, there was another buddha named Viśvabhū who was the Tathāgata, the Arhat, who arose in the world. Furthermore, monastics, during this present fortunate aeon, there was a buddha named Krakucchanda, another who was named Kanakamuni, and another who was named Kāśyapa. [It is called a "fortunate aeon" for having four buddhas.] Now, I’ve also achieved the supreme and complete awakening during this present aeon of fortune.”

The Buddha then spoke in verse:

“Ninety-one aeons in the past,
There was the Buddha Vipaśyin.
Next, thirty-one aeons ago,
There was the Buddha Śikhin.
During that same aeon,
Tathāgata Viśvabhū arose.

During the present fortunate aeon,
There have been countless millions of years.
There were four great sages
Who arose because of their pity for beings:
Krakucchanda, Kanakamuni,
Kāśyapa, and Śākyamuni. More

US woman regularly meets with ET aliens

Coast to Coast, 8/29/23; Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Are more coming? Is that one of their motherships? - Um, I think they want to breed again.
.
Bonnie V. Meyer
Bonnie V. Meyer (thelightside.org) considered herself an ordinary all-American earthling human Christian person, living a normal life -- until ETs in UFOs interrupted that life.

After attempting to debunk the mysterious phenomena around her, she directly experienced ALIEN CONTACT.

She has spent her life ever since investigating space aliens and UFOs (UAPs), attending conferences, and channeling.
There are now many extraterrestrial alien conferences throughout the US (thealiencon.com)
.
Abducted: DNA hybridization?
She discusses various types of extraterrestrial aliens and what they want from earthling humans.

Different alien beings have visited our planet on and off, she said, for a very long time.

"There is a group that I worked with, and they are here keeping an eye on the planet because they know we're in trouble," she claims, adding that they are part of the "Love and Light System" and visit where they are needed.

Meyer live at West Bend Books

This tattooed gent is 100% genetically human.
However, due to a "law" or rule of the galaxy or universe or this dimension, they do not directly interfere with native species visited.

"I was at a meeting, and there were 16 different types of aliens [in attendance]," she reveals, and they were noting that if things get bad, there could be a possible evacuation of the planet and collection of plant and animal specimens [for genetic preservation].

Meyer is describing an Avian (Garuda, Suparna) in Indian mythology/Buddhist cosmology.
.
Garuda (Hyougushi/Delhi)
While some of the space aliens are human in appearance, one of her alien [avian] contacts does not look human at all: He is blue, over 7 feet tall, has a beak like an eagle, a thin body, long neck and arms, and talons rather than fingers.

"He is the captain of a large [mother-] ship that is about the size of Chicago, and it's outside of our atmosphere. It can't come in as it's too large, and it's a place where many aliens come, and they have meetings there," she discloses on this episode of Coast to Coast AM last night.

This hideous plastic surgery disaster is Madonna
Ms. Meyer says that extraterrestrial aliens have different agendas, and we would perceive some as beneficial and others as negative. There are good and bad one in every group, just as humans have good and bad members. Not all Greys and Reptilians are bad, not all Avians and Humans are good.
Space alien ET have been visiting earth for millennia as ancient cave paintings show.
What do the statues in the East depict but our avian (winged deva) ET alien visitors?

Four Kings Tale (Vidhura Pandita Jātaka)

E.B. Cowell and W.H.D. Rouse (trans.), Stories of the Buddha’s Former Births, Book 22 Mahā Nipāta 546, Vidhura Pandita Jātaka (suttacentral.net); Dhr. Seven (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

The Bodhisattva Ideal (BPS.lk)
“Thou art pale and thin and weak,” and so on. The Master (the Buddha) told this tale while dwelling in Jetavana, concerning the Perfection of Wisdom.

One day the monastics raised a discussion in the Hall of Truth, saying:

“Venerables, the Master (the Buddha) has great and wide wisdom. He is ready and quick-witted. He is sharp, keen-witted, and is able to crush the arguments of his opponents. By the power of his wisdom, he overthrows the subtle questions propounded by warrior-caste sages and reduces them to silence. And having established them in the Three Guides (ti-sarana) and the precepts, he causes them to enter on the path that leads to the deathless (nirvana).”

The Master came and asked the topic the monks were debating as they sat together. On hearing what it was he said, “It is not wonderful, meditators, that the Tathagata (the Buddha), having attained the Perfection of Wisdom, should overthrow the arguments of his opponents and convert warriors and others?

For in earlier ages [in past lives], when he was still seeking for supreme knowledge, he was wise and able to crush the arguments of his opponents. Indeed, in the time of Vidhura Kumara, on the summit of the Black Mountain, which is 60 leagues in height, by the force of my wisdom I converted the ogre general, Yakkha Punnaka, and reduced him to silence and made him give his own life as a gift.” So saying, he told a story of the past.

Nagas are dragons (Reptilians, snakes) opposed by Supannas (Avians, garudas, phoenixes)
.
I.
Once upon a time, in the Kuru Kingdom in the City of Indapatta, a king ruled named Dhananjaya-korabba. He had a minister named Vidhura Pandita [who will turn out to be the Bodhisatta], who gave his instructions concerning temporal and spiritual matters. And having a sweet tongue and great eloquence in discoursing of the dharma (Truth), he bewitched all the kings of Jambudipa [India, the subcontinent or island or light (in the sky), possibly the earth] by his sweet discourses concerning the dharma as elephants are fascinated by a favorite lute, nor did he suffer them to depart to their own kingdoms, but dwelled in that city in great glory, teaching the dharma to the people with a Buddha’s power.

Now there were four rich Brahmin householders in Benares (Varanasi), friends, who, having seen the misery of sensual desires, went into the Himalayas and embraced the wandering ascetic life, and having entered upon the transcendental states and the mystical meditations, continued to dwell a long time there, feeding on forest roots and fruits, and then, as they went on alms round to procure salt and sour condiments, came to the city Kalacampa in the Kingdom of Anga.

There four householders who were friends, being pleased with their deportment, having paid them respect and taken their alms bowls, waited upon then with choice food, each in his own house, and taking their promise arranged a dwelling place for them in their garden.

So the four ascetics, having taken their food in the houses of the four householders, went away to pass the day [in meditation], one going to the Heaven of the Thirty-Three, another to the World of the Nagas (Reptilians/snakes), another to the World of the Supannas (Avians/eagles, Garudas), and the fourth to the park Migacira belonging to the Koravya king.

Now the one who spent his day in the world of the devas [of the Thirty-Three], after beholding King Sakka’s glory, described it in full to his attendant and so, too, did the one who spent his day in the Naga and Suparna worlds and so, too, the one who spent his day in the park of the Koravya king Dhananjaya.

Each described in full the glory of that respective king. So these four attendants desired [rebirth in] these heavenly abodes, and having performed the giving of gifts and other works of merit (punya), at the end of their lives, one was reborn as Sakka, another was reborn with a wife and child in the Naga world, another was born as the Supanna king in the palace of the Simbali Lake, and the fourth was conceived of by the chief queen of King Dhananjaya, while the four ascetics were reborn in the Brahma world.
The Koravya prince grew up, and on his father’s passing assumed his kingdom and ruled in righteousness, but he was famed for his skill in dice. He listened to the instruction of Vidhura Pandita and gave alms and kept the moral precepts and observed the [weekly] lunar fasting day (uposatha).

One day when he had undertaken the fast, he went into the garden, determining to practice pious meditation and, having seated himself in a pleasant spot, he performed the duties of a wandering ascetic.

Devas are beautiful humanoids in space/heavens.
[The celestial deva King] Sakka also, having undertaken to keep the fast, found that there were obstacles in the world of the devas, so he [came down and] went into that very garden in the world of humans and, having seated himself in a pleasant spot, performed the duties of a wandering ascetic.

The Naga King Varuna also, having undertaken to keep the fast, found that there were obstacles in the Naga world, so he went into that same garden and, having seated himself in a pleasant place, performed the duties of a wandering ascetic.

The Suparna king also, having undertaken to keep the fast, found that there were obstacles in the Suparna world, so he went into that same garden and, having seated himself in a pleasant spot, performed the duties of a wandering ascetic.

Then these four, having risen from their places at evening time, as they stood on the bank of the royal lake, came together and looked at one another and, being filled with their old kindly affection, they woke up their former friendship and sat down with pleasant greetings.

Sakka sat down on a royal seat, and the others seated themselves as befitted the dignity of each. Then Sakka said to them, “We are all four kings. Now what is the preeminent virtue of each?”

Then Varuna (Varuna 17) the Naga king replied, “My virtue is superior to that of you three,” and when they inquired why, he said: “This Supanna king is our enemy, whether before or after we are reborn, yet even when I see him such a destructive enemy of our race, I never feel any anger. Therefore, my virtue is superior.” And he then uttered the first stanza of the Catuposatha Jataka ("Fourfold Lunar Observance Day Birth Story"):

Thai version of Vidhura-pandita Jataka, Ten Birth Tales of the Buddha (alamy.com), 1880
.
“The good person who feels no anger towards one who merits anger and who never lets anger arise within, one who even when angered does not allow it to be seen — that person they indeed call an ascetic. These are my qualities; therefore, my virtue is superior.”

The Supanna king, hearing this, said: “This Naga is my chief food, but since -- even though I see such food at hand, I endure my hunger and do not commit evil [of killing] for the sake of food -- my virtue is superior,” and he uttered this stanza:

“One who bears hunger with a pinched belly, a self-restrained hermit who eats and drinks by rule and commits no evil for the sake of food — that person they indeed call an ascetic.”

Then Sakka the king of the devas said: “I left behind various kinds of heavenly glory, all immediate sources of happiness, and came to the world of humankind in order to maintain my virtue. Therefore, my virtue is superior,” and he uttered this stanza:

“Having abandoned all sport and pleasure, one utters no false word in the world, one is averse to all outward pomp and carnal desire. Such a person they indeed call an ascetic.” Thus did Sakka describe his own virtue.

Then King Dhananjaya said: “I today have abandoned my court and my seraglio with 16,000 dancing girls, and I practice an ascetic’s duties in a garden. Therefore, my virtue is superior,” and he added this stanza:

“Those who with full knowledge abandon all that they call their own and all the workings of lust, one who is self-restrained, resolute, unselfish, and free from desire, that person they indeed call an ascetic.” Thus they each declared their own virtue as superior, and then they asked Dhananjaya:

“O king, is there any wise person in thy court who could solve this doubt?”

“Yes, O kings, I have Vidhura Pandita, who fills a post of unequalled responsibility and declares civil and monastic law. He will resolve our doubt. We will go to him.” They at once consented. So they all went out of the garden and proceeded to the hall for spiritual assemblies and, having ordered it to be adorned, they seated the Bodhisatta (Buddha-to-be) on a high seat and, having offered him a friendly greeting, sat down respectfully to one side and said:

“O wise sir, a doubt has risen in our minds! Do solve it for us: We ask thee, the minister of lofty wisdom: A dispute has arisen in our utterances. Do consider and solve our perplexities today. Let us through thee today escape our doubt.”

The wise man, having heard their words, replied: “O kings, how shall I know what you said, speaking well or ill concerning your virtue, as you uttered the stanzas in your dispute?” And he added this stanza:

“Those wise ones who know the real state of things and who speak wisely at the proper time — how shall they, however wise, draw out the meaning of verses that have not been uttered to them? How does the Naga king speak, how Garula (the Supanna), the son of Vinata? Or what says the king of the Gandhabbas (Gandharvas, the lowest rank of devas, messenger angels and musicians)? Or how speaks the most noble king of the Kurus?”

Then they uttered this stanza to him:

“The Naga king preaches forbearance, Garula the son of Vinata gentleness, the king of the Gandhabbas abstinence from carnal lust, and the most noble king of the Kurus freedom from all hindrances to spiritual perfection.”

Then the Great Being (the Bodhisatta), having heard their words, uttered this stanza:

“All these sayings are well spoken. There is nothing here uttered amiss. And one in whom these are properly fitted like the spokes in the nave of a wheel, that person who is endowed with these four virtues, is called an ascetic indeed.”

Thus the Great Being declared the virtue of each of them to be one and the same. Then the four, when they heard him, were well pleased and uttered this stanza in his praise:

“You're the best, incomparable, wise, a guardian and knower of the dharma (Truth): having grasped the problem with wisdom, you cut off doubts with skill just as an ivory-worker ivory cuts away with a saw.”

So all four were pleased with his explanation of their question. Then Sakka rewarded him with a robe of fine celestial silk, Garula with a golden garland, Varuna the Naga king with a jewel, and King Dhananjaya with a thousand cows, and so on. Then Dhananjaya addressed him in this stanza:

“I give thee a thousand cows and a bull and an elephant, and these ten chariots drawn with thoroughbred horses, and 16 excellent villages, being well pleased with your solution to the question.”

Then Sakka and the rest, having paid all honor to the Great Being, departed to their own abodes. Here ends the section of the fourfold fast (their Uposatha Day observance).

II.
Now the queen of the Naga king was the Lady Vimala, and when she saw that no jeweled ornament was on his neck, she asked him where it was. He replied, “I was pleased at hearing the moral discourse of Vidhura Pandita the son of the Brahmin Canda, and I... More

Eggs communicate from inside shell (video)

Daily Mail Science Correspondent Colin Fernandez (The Daily Mail, July 22, 2019); VeganKit.com; ScienceAlert.com; Ashley Wells, CC Liu, Crystal Quintero (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Bird eggs vibrate to communicate with each other to warn of imminent attack to their nest, scientific study finds.
Rather than sitting blissfully unaware of the world outside, gull eggs -- or rather the living embryos inside of them -- have a "sophisticated" awareness of what goes on around them, the study found.

The research found that yellow-legged gull eggs, which are found around the UK's coastline, can pick up on warning squawks from adult birds.

The eggs -- having heard [or otherwise sensed] the warning -- will then delay hatching because the coast is not clear [insofar as potential danger exists]. More

COMMENTARY: When does life begin?

Life in the womb (Genetic Literacy Project)
The same happens to us. Human embryos in our mother's womb are aware of the world for nine months before we are officially "born." But life actually begins at conception. So in Buddhist Asia, people are born 1-year-old because of the ten lunar months they spent swimming in the womb on earth are counted as being here and being far more aware than we ever thought. This is unlike the Judeo-Christian West where our age is counted from our birth date. So we in the West are "younger," but we don't look it when we see race groups side-by-side in the same society. "Asian don't raisin" and "black don't crack," it is said. Caucasian skin needs all the antioxidant help it can get, even if that is the self-deceptive youthful number we label ourselves with. But egg science shows the baby inside is alive. This has karmic implications for egg eating and abortions. Think what are doing before you act. Life is precious, and not just our lives but the lives of living beings who make it to the womb.

West Coast Eagles: California
Meanwhile, in on the west coast, in California's Channel Islands, two eagle hatchlings have been born and are doing well.

Two bald eagle chicks have hatched in a nest high in a tree in California's Channel Islands National Park. Park officials say the first egg.

Park officials say the first egg hatched Saturday and the second bird poked its head out of its shell Monday in Sauces Canyon on Santa Cruz Island.
