Krishnamurti: Don't become enlightened

(Krishnamurti Foundation Trust) Becoming enlightened is a horrible idea | Krishnamurti
  • Syncretism: Theosophy
While sounding like a madman at first, the great Krishnamurti actually has a point to make about "efforting," muscling, struggling, and striving to gain or win enlightenment. Buddhist awakening (bodhi) is far more about letting go of delusion, confusion, and illusion and instead gently cultivating allowing, radical acceptance of what is, and dispassionate (disinterested, unbiased) viewing like some kind of Taoist, being the watcher rather than the striver or go-getter.
The Great World Teacher or Jiddu?
Of course, Krishnamurti was more a Hindu than a Buddhist, having escaped the clutches of the Western Theosophists who found him, saw his potential, raised and nurtured their new Messiah (Maitreya) in hopes that he would become a "Buddha" or "World Teacher" for our time (like the promised Buddha Boy decades later).

But he burned them and instead taught a whole kind of Zen nondoing, nothing special, there's nothing to achieve approach to spirituality and spiritual (un)accomplishments. The Theosophists were not happy, so Krishnamurti went off on his own, not aligning himself with any religion but sort of incorporating them all into a syncretism.

The gymnosophist Mahavira
He's a subtle speaker and thinker, along the lines of Bhagwan Shree Rajnessh (Osho) and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, both alleged to be frauds immersed in sex and money scandals. We would not want to misrepresent Krishnamurti's views, if he holds any, as he can quite well speak for himself. Like the great Mahavira (Vardhamāna, the founder of Jainism, called the Nigantha Nattaputta in Buddhist texts), Krishnamurti must have some good qualities that he is still remembered and listened to.

What ever happened to the Hare Krishnas?

Worsening heat wave: European and USA

(DemocracyNow.org) Record heat waves are preview of our future on a warming planet

The USA's Midwest is about to suffer massive heat wave as it celebrates its Independence Day with many sporting events, stifling humidity, record temperatures, and lots of high-pollution (particulate matter of 10 microns or less) fireworks displays, including Dictator Trump's Washington DC circus spectacular. Claims are that this will be the single biggest detonation of firecrackers and hand bombs in the history of the country (not counting its many "shock and awe" displays over the head of other countries the imperialist USA was dominating and illegally bombing and occupying and robbing blind).

Richest gurus and babas of India
Within India’s complex tapestry of spirituality, numerous revered gurus (spiritual teachers) and babas (father figures) stand out, their teachings resonating far beyond the confines of their ashrams (temples) and devotees.

Sad guru: I make a lot of money. lol
Boasting millions of followers worldwide, these spiritual leaders have amassed substantial wealth and wield immense influence, molding the country’s spiritual terrain.

Let’s delve into the lives of the seven wealthiest and most influential spiritual gurus and babas, starting with "Sadhguru."

Renowned for his flippantly pragmatic outlook on spirituality and yoga, Sadhguru ("true guru") Jaggi Vasudev, the founder of the Isha Foundation, stands as a prominent spiritual figure.

With a global following numbering in the millions, his estimated net worth, according to the Times of India, stands at Rs 18 crore [1 Rs crore = ten million rupees, so he had 180 million rupees], as of 2023. [His fortune has increased since then].

Sadhguru’s influence extends across yoga centers, educational institutions, and ecological projects within his financial empire. Through his teachings, he imparts "wisdom" on inner engineering and holistic living principles. More

Sadhguru with Buddhist lamas: Bodh Gaya

(Sadhguru Darshan) "Nobody expected this question from Indian Tibetan Buddhist monk (lama)"? As scandal-ridden "Sadhguru" Jaggi Vasudev pontificates and goes on an on with his humble brag about how "enlightened" he must be now that he, having been an agnostic atheist not interested in spirituality, he experienced "ecstasy" one day. This made him feel like a holy man (sadhu), and he wants to make the whole world blissful or at least get rich trying.

Saintly Himalayan Yogi's Eightfold Path

The Dhammapada: mind - Ajahn Brahm: God vs. Bodhi

An 85-year-old Himalayan yogi, rumored to leave no trace in the snow, says true happiness comes from...

  • What is the "Yoga" (system, tapas, austerity, program) he follows? It is surely Integral Yoga also generally known as Ashtanga or "Eight Limbs." He does not merely do poses or keep a vegetarian diet. He goes much further to include all aspects of the path:
The definition of "yoga"
The Sage Pātañjali (author of the Yoga Sutras or "Yoga Aphorisms") begins his treatise on yoga (1st–3rd century CE) by stating the purpose of writing his book in the first sutra, followed by defining the word "yoga" in his second sutra of Book 1:[2].

योगश्चित्तवृत्तिनिरोधः ॥२॥
yogaś-citta-vṛtti-nirodhaḥ
— Yoga Sutras 1.2

This terse definition hinges on the meaning of three Sanskrit terms:

I. K. Taimni translates it as, "Yoga is the inhibition (nirodhaḥ [usually translated as "cessation"]) of the modifications (vṛtti) of the mind (citta)" [3].

Swami Vivekananda translates this aphorism as, "Yoga is restraining (nirodhah) the mind-stuff (citta) from taking various forms (vrittis)" [4].

When the mind is stilled, the seer or real Self is revealed: 1.3. Then the Seer is established in his [or her] own essential and fundamental nature. 1.4.

In other states there is assimilation (of the Seer) with the modifications (of the mind) [5].

Sadhguru's no guru but tell jokes to Westerners

Eight limbs

Patanjali compiled the yoga aphorisms
Pātañjali set out his definition of "yoga" in the Yoga Sūtras as having eight limbs [following the popularity of the historical Buddha's Dharma being condensed into a Noble Eightfold Path] (अष्टाङ्ग, āṅga, "eight limbs") as follows. These are the Eight Limbs of Yoga:
  1. yama (abstinences),
  2. niyama (observances),
  3. āsana (postures),
  4. prāṇā-yāma (breath control),
  5. pratyāhāra (withdrawal of the senses),
  6. dhāraṇā (concentration),
  7. dhyāna (meditation), and
  8. samādhi (absorption)" [6].
The eightfold path of Pātañjali's yoga consists of a set of prescriptions for a morally disciplined and purposeful life, of which the āsana (yoga postures) form only one limb [7]. More

Buddhism has a different set of Eight Limbs to Enlightenment

What is the path to supreme liberation?
As in Buddhism's Noble Eightfold Path, all of these terms are loaded. They are full of meaning, leaving many aspects to each term or heading. They are not the same path and do NOT lead to the same goal. The goal of yoga is "union," whereas the goal of the Buddha-Dharma is enlightenment and nirvana.
  1. Right View: various summaries of "right view" can be found in Buddhist texts. A stock phrase is the opening of the dhamma-eye, in which knowledge arises: "All that has the nature of arising has the nature of ending" [33, Note 2]; showing the futility of striving after worldly fulfillment. More extensive treatments state that our karma (actions) have consequences, death is not the end, and our words, actions, and beliefs have consequences after death. The Buddha himself followed and taught a successful path out of this world and the other world (heaven and underworld/hells),[36, 37, 38, Web 2] and his example can be followed to the same successful result. Later on, right view came to explicitly include karma and rebirth and the importance of the Four Noble Truths, when "insight" (vipassana) became central to Buddhist soteriology, especially in Theravada Buddhism [39, 40].
  2. Right Intention (samyaka-saṃkalpa/sammā-saṅkappa) can also be known as "right thought," "right aspiration," "right resolve," or "right motivation" [41]. In this factor, one aspires to let go, renounce (stop clinging to) the worldly life and follow the Buddhist path [42] of purification and freedom. The practitioner is full of thoughts of and intends to strive toward non-violence (ahimsa) and avoid violent and hateful/aversive conduct [40].
  3. Right Speech: avoiding lying, abuse, division, and idle chatter [43, 44].
  4. Right Conduct: to avoid killing or injuring, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, intoxication.
  5. Right Livelihood: avoiding trading in weapons, living beings, meat, intoxicants/poisons.
  6. Right Effort: preventing the arising of unwholesome mental states that not arisen, deposing ones that have, generating wholesome states, and maintaining them to their consummation. What are the profitable mental states? The Seven Factors of Enlightenment (bojjhaṅgā). This includes "guarding the sense-doors" (indriya-samvara), restraint of the sense faculties [45, 46].
  7. Right Mindfulness (sati; satipatthana; sampajañña): a quality that guards the heart/mind as it dispassionately watches over [47] and looks on. The stronger mindfulness becomes, the weaker unwholesome states of mind become, weakening their power "to take over and dominate thought, word, and deed" [48, Note 3]. In the insight meditation (vipassana) movement, mindfulness is interpreted as dispassionate "bare attention," watching, vigilance, remaining present and aware with whatever arises in this moment: not being absent minded, but rather being conscientious and conscious of what one is doing; this encourages the awareness of the impermanence of body, feelings, and mind, as well as to dispassionately examine the Five Aggregates clung to as self (skandhas), the Five Hindrances, the Four Noble Truths, and the Seven Factors of Enlightenment [46].
  8. Right Samadhi (passaddhi; ekaggata; sampasadana): practicing the Four Stages of Jhana (Sanskrit dhyāna or "meditation"), which includes samadhi/absorption proper in the second stage and reinforces the development of the Seven Factors of Enlightenment, culminating in equanimity (upekkhā) and mindfulness (sati) [50]. In the Theravada tradition and the insight meditation movement, this is interpreted as singlepointedness of mind (ekaggata), stillness, focus, concentration, one-pointedness of the mind, fulfilled through the Four Foundations of Mindfulness as vipassana meditation, which aims at liberating insight from all illusion. Sad Guru's truth about masturbation

O, Wick Men, give me your knuckle babies
The Christian and Jewish Bibles have so little to say about masturbation that in a mindboggling reach, Church officials (guilty Catholics or officious Protestants or killjoy Jews) could only come up with the story of Onan and the awkward, inapplicable synonymous term "onanism." Nothing could be less connected to masturbation.

A Jewish man's brother dies, leaving his wife without a child. By Jewish custom and (levirate) law, he has to impregnate her in his absence. But just as he finishes the fun part his duty, he thinks better of it, reflecting on how troublesome another child and/or wife will be for him and not wanting to be burdened by those responsibilities, he withdraws as he finishes. God is so p'd off, we're told, that He smites (murders) him on the spot for "spilling his seed" on the ground rather than the fertile woman. Voila! Masturbation. Which as we all know involves having procreative sex with a partner but then changing your mind, right? 🙄
  • Buddhism and sexuality In Buddhism, prohibitions against masturbation apply to monastics. By extension lay people may undertake to avoid them, and that is healthy and good, but one can no more find a "commandment" against it for ordinary people in Buddhist texts as one could locate one in Christian texts. Inciting lust, particularly through porn, is terribly harmful, and the Buddha did say something to the effect that it would be better to swallow a red-hot iron ball. But even that is in reference to being an "immoral monastic" swallowing food offered as alms by laypeople. If one insists on having sex (or fornicating, which means doing it without being married), go Tantric.
One is reminded of a truly tasteless joke:

A man nudged his wife for some nookie in front of their child. She asked him, "What?" - "How about we, you know?" - "What, are you crazy? You're going to ask me for that in front of our baby?!" - "Well, what do you want me to do?" - "Next time you want some whoopie, ask me to do 'a load of laundry.'" - "Oh, O.K." - Later that night, the wife primps and preps and makes a dramatic entrance in the bedroom. But the husband rolls over, turning his back to her. She pokes him and angrily and says, "I thought you wanted me to do a load of laundry!?" - "Oh, that's O.K. It was a small load. I did it by hand."

Fortunately, Wiki has this caveat: The word onanism is not based on the biblical story of Onan itself but on an interpretation of that biblical story. For the word onanism is not found in any form in biblical texts. Thus, the etymological connection of onanism (as masturbation) with Onan's name is religiously misleading" [62][47]. More

Blood moon eclipse Uposatha (3/13)

Total lunar eclipse happens tonight and Friday morning
Strange cloudy weather may conceal eclipse
(FOX Weather) March 13th, 2025: FOX Weather Meteorologist Stephen Morgan explains the timing of the Blood Moon total lunar eclipse tonight and Friday morning. All you need to see the eclipse is to step outside and look up, but millions may have cloudy sky blocking their view.

Harken, it's time to awaken, deluded Earth Man.
O, Moon Goddess, I was having a wild dream.
An Uposatha (Sanskrit Upavasatha) day is a Buddhist day of observance, in existence since before the Buddha's time (600 BCE) and still being kept today by Buddhist practitioners as he advised [1, 2].

The Buddha taught that the Uposatha Day is for "the cleansing of the defiled mind/heart," resulting in inner calm and joy [3].

Eight spokes of the Dharma Wheel
On this day, both lay and ordained members of the sangha (spiritual community) intensify their practice, deepen their knowledge of the Teachings, and express communal commitment through millennia-old acts of lay-monastic reciprocity.

On these days, lay followers make a conscious effort to keep the Eight Precepts or (as the tradition suggests) Ten Precepts of intensive practice, over the ordinary Five Precepts observed all of the rest of the time. It is a day specially set aside for practicing the Buddha's Teachings and engaging in meditation. More

Lunar eclipse of full Harvest Moon (live)

Rahu in Buddhist Thailand
The cause of a lunar eclipses would not seem to be this planet of plane but another celestial body. Let's see, who else could be out there? (Scientists discover mysterious structures hidden in our solar system).
Miss Venus, Mr. Mars, Pluto Jr., another Ms. Luna (Earth's new 'mini-moon' will orbit our planet for the next 2 moonths), the Twelfth Planet Nibiru? (Twelfth? One or more was obliterated in a collision that led to the Khyber Belt debris field, according to Zecharia Sitchin). There's another body that gets even less respect than Pluto, and that rascal RAHU, downgraded from planet to a "node." A node? But it is this celestial body that is credited with earth's eclipses, lunar and solar, in Buddhist, Vedic/Hindu, and Jain cosmologies.
Tonight's lunar eclipse is only partial, so Rahu will only take a chunk out of Soma then release.

Tom Brady is a big fan of Jaggi Sadhguru
The ancient Vedas ("Knowledge Books" of India) have much to tell us, particularly the Ayurveda on the topic of health (important in yoga). Here modern Hindu showman Sadhguru ("true guru") claims that in two hours under the eclipse things like food, which is our body post-consumption, will age and rot. So it is better to fast today, not to eat, to bathe away negativity, and never to watch the eclipse directly as so many space-loving Americans are fond of doing. Everyone in India knows to go indoors and be away from the shadow of the eclipses. It is not just Sadhguru warning people. Of course, his method of "dowsing" with (mala beads or any pendulum like device the hand can unconsciously twitch to move in one direction or another, which is good for divining what the mind knows subconsciously better than what is present objectively) the food for the presence of deterioration, aging, fermenting, rotting, and putrefying is a little suspect. But the claim is that this is subtle and therefore it would be hard to substantiate the claim otherwise. Of course, one imagines the food should spoil, rot, grow fungus and black mats of bacteria in two to three hours if it were the case that the body/food are aging 28 days in just the two to three hours of the eclipse. But be that as it may, we are forewarned and can take the appropriate steps if we wish. It is ancient Vedic knowledge. The Buddha did not accept the Vedas nor regard them as ultimate authorities on spirituality, but that is not to say that they are not valuable sacred scriptures. Many truths must be found within their pages, many things the Brahmins memorizing and chanting in Sanskrit thought worthy of preserving from the heavens (akasha loka) from which they were handed down or composed by seers (rishis) capable of discerning subtle truths our world is usually blind to.

Yogini, Guru: Avoid meat, white rice, wheat

Many health communities view white (stripped of everything but its starch) rice as an unhealthy option. It’s highly processed and stripped of its hull (protective coating), bran (outer layer fiber), and germ (nutrient-rich core). Brown rice has only had its hull removed. For this reason, brown rice has many vitamins and minerals absent from white rice. There are some instances where white rice is a better option than brown, as for the sick who cannot digest food. Yoga Ayurveda: avoid these foods and drugs

There are sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic foods, just as there are three body types (or doshas, of vata, pitta, and kapha or air, fire, and water). These are the basics of Ayurvedic eating for health and longevity.

Avoid harmful foods
(Sadhguru Ji Yogic Life) Premiered Aug. 7, 2023, In modern terms, there are positive-, negative-, and zero-pranic foods. Prana is our invisible lifeforce energy, the spiritus (holy spirit), breath, or unseen animating energy that makes life possible. We could think of it as chi.

Yogini Shlloka explains that in Yoga (with its traditional Eight Limbs or Ashtanga that form a complete ancient science) we do not look at foods in terms of proteins, vitamins, or minerals as is focused on in the West.

Ayurveda (the "Science of Life") categorizes food in three ways:
  1. positive pranic food
  2. negative pranic food
  3. zero pranic food.
Positive substances, when consumed, add prana to the human system. Prana, the vital energy in the body, will increase.

If we consume negative pranic substances, they take prana away from the system. They stimulate the nervous system but take away vital energy.

Zero pranic food neither adds nor takes away energy. It is only eaten for taste.

Negative pranic substances:
  1. Garlic is a powerful medicine if used properly. But if we put it into everyday food and eat it, it causes much damage.
  2. Onion is similar. The body does not prefer it. It shows this dislike by irritation the eye feels when we chop it.
  3. Asafoetida (a plant that acts as an onion substitute) is also a negative pranic item but is generally used in small quantities for taste.
  4. Eggplant (brinjal) is a vegetable that has some poison in it [as part of the deadly nightshade family, that also includes tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, etc., similar to toxic cashews] There is a certain enzyme in eggplant that is capable of damaging the hypothalamus. Children should avoid this vegetable.
  5. Chili peppers can be experimented with. However, if we abstain from them for some time and then take them, the body will reject them with a strong reaction.
  6. Coffee
  7. Tea (Camellia sinensis which, like coffee, contains caffeine) are very powerful nervous system stimulants. Constant abuse of such common stimulants destroys stamina in the long run.
  8. Tobacco
These stimulants reduce our ability to store energy and our ability to do things. They make old age very difficult. Needless to say, all stimulant drugs and other nervous aggravators are negative pranic items.

Emotional stability very much depends on the foods we eat. If we refrain from foods with negative pranic substances, we find that it becomes easy to maintain our emotional balance. These seven items are negative pranic foods; the rest are positive.

Ayurveda, a natural system of health maintenance, originated in India more than 3,000 years ago. The Sanskrit term Ayurveda is derived from the words ayur ("life") and veda ("knowledge" or "science").

Ayurveda translates to "Knowledge of Life." Based on the idea that disease is due to an imbalance or stress and strain on a person's consciousness, Ayurveda encourages certain lifestyle interventions and natural therapies to regain balance between body, mind, spirit (prana), and the environment.
