The Indigenous American Pyramids (audio)

FIGURINE found at the East St. Louis dig site is made of a type of pipestone called Missouri flint clay. It portrays a kneeling woman holding a marine shell cup -- possibly a fertility goddess [or meditator] (Illinois State Archaeological Survey, Univ. of Illinois):
ANCIENT CAHOKIA, modern Illinois - Across the Mississippi River from St. Louis' famous Gateway Arch is a part of Illinois that's a post-industrial wasteland. Some hope the construction of a new bridge across the Mississippi River will help revitalize the area. But archaeologists worry future development could destroy what's left of another neighborhood -- one that flourished there almost a thousand years ago.
Working just ahead of the cranes and earth movers that are building a stretch of the interstate freeway, archaeologists have unearthed the remains of a sophisticated American Indian settlement no one knew existed.
There are remnants of more than a thousand prehistoric houses and the base of an earthen pyramid -- one of dozens that would have towered above the original settlement.
Rising 100 feet above the ground, Monks Mound is the tallest of the 80 or so pyramid-mounds remaining at the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site in Illinois. Around 900 years ago it was a carefully maintained earthen pyramid, supporting a large wooden temple several stories high (Véronique LaCapra/St. Louis Public Radio).
This East St. Louis dig sits halfway between a crumbling meat packing plant and a now-closed strip club. But Joe Galloy, who is coordinating research here for the Illinois State Archaeological Survey, says 900 years ago, visitors paddling here by canoe from the Mississippi River would have seen the tall wooden temples that stood on top of many of the pyramids. And at their bases, [were] rows and rows of thatched-roof huts.
"One of the things that I imagine an ancient visitor to this site would have experienced was kind of a sense of awe and wonder," Galloy says. "There would be fires and things like that. People cooking stuff -- all sorts of activity. And you'd see this huge village. And it was probably a very impressive site, one of the largest settlements that people had seen if they hadn't been around this area before."
Further to the southwest in what was once Mesoamerica, now Mexico, there is the great Pyramid of the Sun (greatdreams.com).
Galloy says archaeologists knew about the pyramids from old maps and excavations, but they were all outside the bounds of this new dig site. "So for us it was a really big surprise to come out and discover that we have this big residential area for this ancient city."
Cahokia: A Bustling, Ancient City
Galloy and others believe that what they've found here near East St. Louis is a prehistoric suburb of an ancient city known as Cahokia, once the largest American Indian city north of Mexico. Its remains are five miles away.
What's left of Cahokia is now part of an Illinois State Park. It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

MIC's cyber war; Teens tired of Facebook
For some youngsters the novelty has worn off. Adults are being burned by Facebook stock and lawsuits. And now it seems (pro-FBI) non-CIA-aligned media are interested in oppositional stories (brownsdesign.com).SAN FRANCISCO - For teens, it has been an essential rite of passage: They turn 13 and join Facebook.
Since she signed up three years ago, friend requests and status updates are as much a part of Meera Kumar's life as homework and exams at Menlo School, the elite private institution in leafy Atherton, California, where she's a 16-year-old sophomore.
But when her kid sister Anika turned 13 last year, she gave Facebook a pass."
I guess I haven't been that interested in it," said Anika, who prefers sharing photos with friends on Instagram via her iPhone or video chatting with them on Google+. Could Facebook be losing its cool? More

When we tried to kill "Napalm Girl"

Kim Phuc was photographed running down the road as a naked child (center) screaming from the United States' napalm (jellied gasoline) burns to her skin. Nick Ut, the Associated Press photographer who was there to cover the siege, took the photograph of young Kim:

Queen Elizabeth fronts for Rothschilds
It is accurate to posit that Australia, New Zealand, and Canada are not independent, sovereign countries. However, these nations are not owned and run by the UK; they are owned and run by the House of Windsor Crown Temple syndicate within the City of London Corporation. The head signatory of the Crown Temple syndicate is Elizabeth Windsor (Queen Elizabeth II of England). It should not be forgotten that the most powerful financial syndicate in the Western World is that of the European Rothschilds. The Rothschilds, because of their power base inside the City of London Corporation, have a controlling membership of the London Crown Temple syndicate, and they also have executive control of the Vatican and the Mafia... Are humans on verge of mass extinction?

Nelson Foster's important article "How Shall We Save the World?" raises
questions that are crucial to engaged Buddhism: "Snow White" and the movie reviews (video)
Kristen Stewart, stepping away from the "Twilight" franchise, is turning into a sleeping beauty. Often accused of being inarticulate, wooden, even leaden, a female Keanu Reeves, this will be her chance to shine -- in sleep."Snow White and the Huntsman" (SWATH) is her chance to outdo the evil witch while playing with the affections of dwarfs.
Even Krampus (shown with siren chess player) might be baffled by Hollywood's Muse or the Fates: How could a "Twilight" star take down "MIB3" or "The Avengers" when the more beautiful Scarlett Johannson is starring in one of the most money-making movies of all time. (We can't imagine why). That's how karma is, always working itself out in mysterious ways. Beauty, fame, and riches are no accident -- and they obviously do not always seem deserved. But deserved they are in some sense. They do not come from nothing, do not emerge from nowhere. There is a vast, unseen storehouse of merit to exhaust.
Often without realizing it, we conflate Judeo-Christian and Mahayana-Hindu values with what the Buddha taught. We assume they must be the same, that all religions are saying the same thing. The Buddha's explanation of karma was far different from anything anyone had ever taught. This includes the concept of merit and responsibility.
We merit what we get -- even when we seem to be stealing it. By stealing or cheating for undeserved advantage, we are only exhausting our store of merit (punya, profitable karma) and building up demerit (debt). "I" did not, ultimately speaking, do the former deed because there is no real continuity-in-identity. But it was not done by another. They are connected, sequentially, one influencing the other.Out of compassion for who we will be (conventionally, not ultimately, speaking), we should store up acts of merit. They will be helpful and productive of happiness for a long time. But others will be jealous, confused, envious of our success. And we are not likely to put our profits to good use -- as enduring investments that yield timeless results (insight-wisdom and liberation).
It would have helped Snow White (the character) and the writers of the movie who, feeling like hacks, will probably be spending more time at art houses watching proper "films" like the biopic on the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill W. Or maybe they'll be dancing it out at "Battlefield America" and getting ready for Wednesday's US debut of Lunch Beat -- the latest dance craze sweeping the Continent.

Therefore, the Buddha's virtues are sometimes condensed for the sake of reflection (Buddhanusati, recollection and contemplation) into nine great virtues:
- worthy (of honor and hospitality, gifts and praise, veneration and respect)
- self-awakened (enlightened through his own trailblazing efforts rather than benefiting from the discovery of another fully enlightened teacher)
- endowed with knowledge and conduct (six unparalleled aspects of superknowledge and ethical personal behavior in accordance with wisdom and compassion)
- well gone (attained to the supreme, the unexcelled, nirvana)
- knower of the world (who fully knew both inner and outer worlds, the dimensions and paths of karma)
- supreme trainer of persons to be tamed (a master physician for the physical pain and, moreover, the mental suffering of living beings)
- teacher of devas and humans (guide of "shining ones," sometimes called "gods," who are subtle-unseen beings of various kinds, as well as ordinary human beings)
- awakened (buddha, awake and able to awaken others by inspiring and pointing out the path-of-practice that brings about the realization of liberating truth)
- blessed (holder of great virtues).
"The Purity Myth" (film)
Throughout history, boys have been taught that the things that make them men -- good men -- are transcendent ideals like courage and honesty and integrity. In this alternately hilarious and enraging film adaptation of her bestselling book, The Purity Myth, pioneering feminist blogger Jessica Valenti shows how this double-standard is alive and well today.
This is due to a well-funded coalition of virginity-obsessed political conservatives bent on vilifying feminism and rolling back women's rights.
Valenti trains her sights on what she calls the "virginity movement" -- an unholy alliance of evangelical Christians, political activists, and policy wonks spreading irrational fears about women's sexuality.
Their goal is to shape government policy, public education, and even popular culture in their own traditionalist image.
And whether Valenti's focus is on the exploding popularity of dad-and-daughter "purity balls," or the millions of dollars American taxpayers are forced to shell out each year for failed abstinence-only programs, her baseline target is the same: the myth that the worth of a woman depends on what she does or does not do sexually.
In the end, The Purity Myth shows why commercial culture's hyper-sexualization of women -- condemning them in school and at church while pimping them on the growing number of freeway strip club billboards -- is too serious a problem to be left to ideologues.
Arguing that the antidote to our "pornified" culture is a set of reactionary policies that replace one form of sexism with another is no answer. Instead, we must embrace women's autonomy and power. More

Stuxnet: Obama, Israel attacked Iran (cartoon)
(thismodernworld.org)Obama, Israel ordered computer attacks on Iran
The Stuxnet worm, developed by U.S. and Israeli agencies, targeted Iran's nuclear program, says the New York Times.(IDG) U.S. President Barack Obama ordered the Stuxnet cyberattacks on Iran in an effort to slow the country's development of a nuclear program, according to a report in The New York Times.
Quoting anonymous sources, the Times reported that in the early days of his presidency, Obama accelerated attacks related to an effort begun by the George W. Bush administration. The Stuxnet worm, long rumored to have been developed by Israel or the U.S., escaped from Iranian computers in mid-2010 and compromised computers across the Internet.
Obama considered shutting down the cyberattacks after Stuxnet began compromising other computers, but decided to continue with the program, according to the Times. The Stuxnet worm came from a joint U.S. and Israeli effort to target the Iranian nuclear program, the Times said. The newspaper interviewed U.S., Israeli and European officials currently and formerly involved with the cyberattack program, it said. More

The World's Secret GOLD Supply (audio)
CONTEXT: Benjamin Fulford is making revelations. There is an alliance of 117 nations now aligned against the "Illuminati," which most people are either not aware of or do not believe exists. They are the secret political leadership of the G-5 countries. Formerly controlled countries are pulling their power back. And the Illluminati has a plan to assert draconian control. How?
Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations said that if nations hold gold, they are a risk to rest of the world. The gold has to be kept out of the international market. This is the "biggest" economic secrecy. Wealth (in terms of fiat currency) is created with value relative to its economic output.- [Buddhist lore says such treasure is protected by nagas, "dragons," "serpents," or reptilian-human hybrids, the central figures of reverence in China and among the Illuminati.]
