Native Americans bringing back buffalos

I'll give you a nickel for that buffalo. - Why, what are you going to do with it? - Shoot it.

Celebration of rare white bison birth in Yellowstone Nat'l Park comes with warning
(NBC News) June 28, 2024: A rare white bison calf was sighted at Yellowstone National Park, bringing indigenous tribes together for a spiritual ceremony. They say the birth of the special American buffalo is a prophecy fulfilled, but also that there's a wider message that needs to be heard. #Yellowstone #Bison #Tribe #Lakota
Were bison the keystone species of the Plains?
Fortunately, Los Angeles has buffalo that roam freely. Unfortunately, they only get to do so on a small island called Catalina off the coast of Santa Monica Beach, where only a few tourists ever get to see them. This ungulate species was the key to the health and maintenance of the land, just as reindeer manage more northerly climes. But the White Man decided to shoot them for fun and to perpetuate the genocide of the Native Americans who co-existed and depended on this symbol of the American west.

The white buffalo prophecy
Four Worlds International Institute: The white buffalo prophecy

A peaceful vegetarian animal, the White Man would not stand for these wooly "cows" standing in their way of Manifest Destiny, stealing all the land, and setting up a white supremacy form of rule over these United States in North America, taking much of Mexico in the process and calling it their own under threat of war. But the White Man did not stop, satisfied with his booty and Native American slaves (yes, many Indigenous people were taken into chattel slavery) when arriving on the west coast. The American Army immediately went out to sea to takeover and oppress a little place called the Philippines. This history is well remembered in another overthrown island kingdom that the USA now calls its state of Hawaii but seems largely forgotten (or conveniently buried in a few history books) on the mainland.
