The white cannibals of America (video)

White cannibals of US: Sarah Winnemucca tells of a red-haired tribe in Nevada, 1858-1860
What would giants eat? (gen6giants)
(Unworthy History) Aug. 3, 2024: In this video we read from Life Among the Paiutes: Their Wrongs and Their Claims by Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins, published in 1883. It tells of the Pyramid Lake War that broke out in 1860 between the Paiutes and the white settlers near Genoa, Nevada. It also tells the Paiute legend of the red-haired cannibalistic people exterminated by the Paiutes several hundred years before the book was written.

  • There were Spaniards who came to what is now the USA in post-Columbian times. One such Conquistador or scout was the captain of a ship who produced written documentation (ship's log) of sighting an interacting with these red-haired giants. In on curious incident, a massive young girl was spotted and tracked with the intention of abducting her and kidnapping her back to Europe. Armed men followed her from shore to her house, where they had a run in with her father, who was much bigger. They abandoned the plan, ran back to the ship, and observed the parents angry on the shore as they departed. These written documents must still exist for review.
Wonderhussy investigates Lovelock Cave

(Wonderhussy Adventures) Oct. 25, 2023: Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #756. Date of adventure: Oct. 11, 2023. If you get arrested at Burning Man, they'll bring you to jail in Lovelock. It's better to explore this remote cave in northern Nevada without cops. Here, back in 1911, a couple of bat guano (fertilizer) miners discovered the mummified body of a 6'6" red headed man. The local Paiutes were not red headed, nor were they that tall. So who was this mummy, and where did he come from? Could he have been a descendant of Viking [or Irish or Nordic or Extraterrestrial] explorers?

Life Among the Piutes: Their Wrongs and Claims
Life Among the Paiutes: Their Wrongs and Their Claims
Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins (4.3 out of 5 stars with 25 ratings). This 1883 book by Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins is an autobiographical account of the Paiute people during their first 40 years of interaction with European-American invaders/settlers. The author was the daughter of the Paiute Chief Winnemucca and was raised in the area that is now western Nevada.

Born about 1841 into a tribe that -- at that time -- had only limited contact with settlers, Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins would go on to spend the majority of her adult life apart from the Paiutes.

Mrs. Hopkins came to the East from the Pacific coast with the courageous purpose of telling in detail to the mass of our people, "extenuating nothing and setting down naught in malice," the story of her people's trials.

Finding that in extemporaneous speech she could only speak at one time of a few points, she determined to write out the most important part of what she wished to say.

In fighting with her literary deficiencies, she loses some of the fervid eloquence which her extraordinary colloquial command of the English language enables her to utter, but I am confident that no one would desire that her own original words should be altered.

It is the first outbreak of the American Indian in human literature. Sarah Winnemucca (1844–1891) was a prominent female Paiute activist and educator; she helped gain release of her people from the Yakima Reservation following the Bannock War of 1878, lectured widely in the East in 1883 on injustices against Native Americans in the West, established a private school for Indian students in Nevada, and was an influential figure in development of United States' 19th-century Indian policies.

Giant red-haired cannibals of Lovelock, Nevada

The mysterious red-headed mummy giant of Lovelock Cave
(Let Us Try That) March 20, 2024: The Northern Paiute people have an oral tradition that tells of a barbarous tribe of [tall, redheaded] people. These barbarians were cannibals who would kill and eat the Northern Paiute people and even eat their own dead. At war for three years, the Paiutes eventually killed many of the cannibals. The rest fled to a deep cave. The mouth of the cave was stuffed full of brush and set ablaze, killing the last of those people. There have been archeological expeditions at this site, and there have been a lot of claims made about what was found there. Today, we're trying to get to the truth and find out what really happened at Lovelock Cave.

Mummy find in China desert stirs ethnic debate

Nicholas Wade (NYT News Service, Mar. 17, 2010)
The mummy of an infant excavated from the cemetery in north China. In the middle of a terrifying desert north of Tibet, Chinese archaeologists have excavated an extraordinary cemetery. Its inhabitants died almost 4,000 years ago, yet their bodies have been well preserved by the dry air. The cemetery lies in what is now China's northwest province of Xinjiang.

However, the people have European features, with brown hair and long noses. Their remains, in one of the world's largest deserts, are buried in upside-down boats. And where tombstones might stand, declaring pious hope for some god's mercy in the afterlife, their cemetery sports instead a vigorous forest of phallic symbols, signaling an intense interest in pleasures or utility of procreation. The White (Caucasian) Huns

The White Huns (Hephthalites)
Silkroad Foundation (silk-road.com)

The Religion
Although Sung Yun and Hui Sheng reported that the Hephthalites did not believe in Buddhism, there is ample archaeological evidence that this religion was practiced in territories under Hephthalite control. According to Liang shu, the Hephthalites worshipped heaven and fire, a clear reference to Zoroastrianism. However, burial sites seem to indicate the normal practice of disposing of the dead, which is against Zoroastrian belief.
The Origins
The few Hephthalite (Ephthalite) records provide a fragmentary picture of their civilization and empire. Their background is uncertain. They probably stemmed from a combination of the people of the Tarim basin and the Yueh-chih. There is a striking resemblance in the deformed heads of the early Yueh-chih and Hephthalite kings on their coins. According to Procopius's History of the Wars, written in the 6th century, the Hephthalites:
Depiction of "White Hun" (allempires.net)

"[White Huns] are of the stock of the Huns in fact as well as in name: however, they do not mingle with any of the Huns known to us. They are the only ones among the Huns who have white bodies...."

Ephthalites was the name given to them by Byzantine historians, Hayathelaites by the Persian historian Mirkhond, and sometimes Ye-tai or Hua by Chinese historians. They are also known as the White Huns, distinct from the Huns who, led by Attila, invaded the Roman Empire.

They are described as a kindred steppe people who originally occupied the pasture-lands in the Altai mountains of southwestern Mongolia.

Toward the middle of the 5th century, they expanded west probably because of the pressure from the Juan-juan, a powerful nomadic tribe in Mongolia. Within decades, they became a great power in the Oxus basin and the most serious enemy of the Persian empire.

Westward Expansion
When the Hephthalites gained power, Kushan and Gandhara were ruled by the Kidarites, a local dynasty of Hun or Chionites tribe. The Hephthalites entered Kabul and overthrew Kushan. The last Kidarites fled to Gandhara and settled in Peshawar. In about 440 A.C.E. the Hephthalites further took Sogdian (Samarkand) and then Balkh and Bactria.

The Hephthalites moved closer and closer toward Persian territory....The Hephthalites became the superpower of Middle Asia. They not only destroyed part of the Sassanian Empire in Iran but also intervened in their dynastic struggles...

Eastward Expansion into the Tarim Basin
With the stabilization at the western border, the Hephthalites extended their influence to the northwest into the Tarim Basin. From 493 to 556 A.D., they invaded Khotan, Kashgar, Kocho, and Karashahr. The relationship with Juan-juan and China were tightened. The Chinese record indicated that between 507 and 531, the Hephthalites sent thirteen embassies to Northern Wei (439-534) via a king named Ye-dai-yi-li-tuo.

The [Aryan?] Invasion of India
During the 5th century, the Gupta dynasty in India reigned in the Ganges basin and with the Kushan Empire occupied the area along the Indus River. India knew the Hephthalite as Huna by the Sanskrit name. The Hephthalites or Hunas waited until 470, right after the death of the Gupta ruler Skandagupta (455-470), to enter India from the Kabul valley after the conquest of Kushan. They continued along the Ganges and ruined every city and town.

The noble capital, Pataliputra [located by Ranajit Pal], was reduced in population to a village. They persecuted Buddhists and burned all the monasteries. Their conquest was accomplished with extreme ferocity, and the Gupta regime (414-470) was completely extinguished.

For thirty years the northwestern India was ruled by Hephthalite kings. Some of the Hephthalite kings ruling India are found on coins. The most famous ones were Toramana and Mihrakula, ruling India in the first half of the 6th century.

The Language
There are numerous debates about Hephthalite language. Most scholars believe it is Iranian [Aryan] for the Pei Shih states that the language of the Hephthalites differs from those of the Juan-juan (Mongoloid) and of the "various Hu" (Turkic); however, some think the Hephthalites spoke Mongol tongues like the Hsien-pi (3rd century) and the Juan-juan (5th century) and the Avars (6th-9th century).

According to the Buddhist pilgrims Sung Yun and Hui Sheng, who visited them in 520, they had no script, and the Liang shu specifically states that they have no letters but use tally sticks. At the same time there is numismatic and epigraphic evidence to show that a debased form of the Greek alphabet was used by the Hephthalites.

Since the Kushan was conquested by Hephthalites, it is possible they retained many aspects of Kushan culture, including the adoption of the Greek alphabet. More>>
