The LAPD released bodycam footage showing the moments before police shot Jillian Lauren Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, during a confrontation in the Los Angeles foothill suburb of Eagle Rock on April 8, 2025, just before Weezer was to play the first weekend of Coachella 2025.
According to the LAPD, California Highway Patrol (CHP) requested assistance pursuing three hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential area near the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street.
LAPD officers were searching for the suspects in the backyards of an Eagle Rock neighborhood. As they were searching the backyard of one residence, Shriner was seen in the yard of a neighboring house armed with a 9mm handgun, the LAPD claim.
[LAPD policy is to challenge and mistreat anyone with a gun, legal or otherwise, in spite of their constitutional rights to have and hold such a weapon. If police claim a citizen "aimed" or even "brandished" the firearm, or it looked that way to them, that person is suddenly a felony suspect who must be taken down even if that means a hail of bullets from the guns they freely wield and aim at citizens as they like.]
The footage shows cops peering over a fence and demanding, multiple times, that Shriner put her [legal] gun down before several shots are fired.
Shriner was wounded on the shoulder and retreated back into her house. In a 911 call made by Shriner after the shooting, she can be heard telling the operator she believed she was defending herself against the fleeing suspects.
Shriner was eventually forced to exit her house and was taken into custody and to a local hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
She was absentee booked for attempted murder, released from custody after posting bail, and was scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2025.
No officers or community members were injured in the incident. It was later determined Shriner was “uninvolved in the hit-and-run and lived at the residence where she was observed,” police admitted.
One hit-and-run suspect was detained by CHP, but two other suspects escaped and got away and were never located, police stated.

Q: Is we slightly stoopid? We owned muscle cars as teens. Very mindful, very demure, right? We had fat tires, needlessly shiny rims, and coatings of black primer instead of proper paint jobs, which were coming.
A: Listening to hardcore LA punk and heavier and heavier metal of all kinds, it made sense. American boys need power, at least the LA (and Detroit) ones. Humans need the feel of speed. We were hardly the first American'ts to feel drawn to the exaggerated feminine curves of the Chevy Corvette over the square stylings of the Ford Mustang or the silly buggy shape of Hitler's Folkswagon (VW). The Chevy Camaro, the Malibu, the Nova, the Predator, the Scylla, the Leviathan, somewhere there were balding men during the Fifties fueling these fevered dreams of "Man and Machine." Women, too, strange tomboys and uberkoolchix. It was not the most meditative thing one could have been doing though in someways there was Zen and being in the zone. Gary Numan had a lot to do with it.

But we had watched so many car chase scenes on the big and small screen, we needed to instigate fights between Rubber and Asphalt, drift, spin out, make shifting sounds with our mouths, and annoy the neighbors with roars and squeals. What, we were the only ones? It only got worse.

Imagine the singlemindedness it takes to drive. The faster one goes, the more focus. The more dangerous the ride, the more remaining calm (samatha), cool (upekkha), and collected (ekagata nearly to the point of samadhi) becomes paramount. Harder, faster...calmer. If one were in a sword fight, that's no time to stress, strain, and think. It is time to act decisively and reach of state of zen (jhana, dhyana, chan). Driving can make one more meditative, more calm, in the zone, beyond thinking, operating in a state of being that must remain present or 🚗 💥. In the mosh pit, one can have this same feeling, or in war, or in any life-and-death situation. The mind quietens. Focus becomes like a laser. The senses heighten but the breath seems to disappear. This is not about efforting and panicking but the opposite, exhiliration and "being here now."

Consider the fact that our hormones, patriarchal societies, the ways we're raised don't change so much. At the time of the Buddha, rich kids raced around in cool chariots with parasols and white stallions. Why? Image, chixdiggit, ego, testosterone, competitiveness, vanity, memories of life in the lower heavens (planes of existence in the deva worlds of the Sensual Sphere), who knows? But they did. And many people do it here and now, no longer limited to rich boys. Think of the new lowrider law in Los Angeles, California. Every kind of person in our U.S. car culture gets sucked in at least a little. Some a lot, but everyone a little. This is the Sensual Sphere (kama-loka). We aim for rebirth in the Fine Material Sphere or, at the very least, the sensuous heavens. Some more wisely aim for an end to rebirth or rearising in the hard-to-conceive Immaterial Sphere (the formless realms). One company, Olivares Funeral Home, is using the slogan: “So you can rest like Barbie” to advertise its new “Barbie House” casket design.
The firm shared a clip of the promotion on TikTok, where it went viral with 1.6 million views and nearly 5,000 comments.
Other funeral homes -- located in Mexico, El Salvador, and across Latin America -- have also joined the trend, cashing in on the success of the Barbie film as they also launch bright pink coffins.

4. I am sure to be separated and parted from all that is dear and beloved to me. // I will grow different, separate from all that is dear and appealing to me. Sabbehi me piyehi manāpehi nānābhāvo vinābhāvo....
But what if I don't believe in karma? - No matter.
5. I am the owner of my karma [actions of thought, word, and deed], heir of my karma, karma is the womb [from which I have sprung here], actions are my relations, actions are my protectors. Whatever actions I do, skillful or unskillful, of these I shall be heir [2]. //
What if I die? - You'll be reborn.
I am the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and have my actions as my arbitrator. Whatever I do, for benefit or ill, to that will I fall heir [3]. Kammassakomhi kammadāyādo kammayoni kammabandhū kammapaṭisaraṇo yaṃ kammaṃ karissāmi kalyāṇaṃ vā pāpakaṃ vā tassa dāyādo bhavissāmī... [4].
The Buddha advised: "These are five facts that one should often reflect on, whether one is a female or male, layperson or monastic" [5].
Since the Buddha clarified, defining karma ("action") as the intention (cetana) behind a deed motivating it (Nibbedhika Sutta), "intentions" or "intentionally committed deeds" may be better translations of karma in the fifth contemplation or recollection above.
