At COP30 to save our environment

NOTE: While we agree the environment and climate need saving, we oppose the nonsense capitalist pseudo-solutions that make it obvious that the reason "climate change" is promoted is to sneak in more of the same: Pollution credits, blaming consumers while exempting the corporations that are profiting from polluting, incentivizing bad (biased) science that finds results its looking for (the promote the mainstream narrative) and dismissing results that contradict it. Stop polluters -- national and multinational actors actively promoting toxins (pesticides), deforestation, unsustainable practices...
Talking to Indigenous Americans in Amazon

Democracy Now! speaks with Indigenous leaders at U.N. climate summit in Belém for climate negotiations, in greater numbers than ever before, taking center stage at COP30.

These Indigenous leaders are calling “to end the persecution of our land defenders,” says Diana Chávez, member of the Pastaza Kichwa Nation, with Pakkiru, an Indigenous organization based in Ecuador’s Amazon. “We’re fighting to keep our territories.”

This is a rush transcript. Copy may not be in its final form.

HOST AMY GOODMAN: This is Democracy Now!, The War and Peace Report. I’m Amy Goodman. We’re broadcasting from Belém, Brazil, the gateway to the Amazon, where the U.N. climate summit is taking place.

“The answer is us.” That was the slogan as hundreds of Indigenous leaders from the Amazon and across the region gathered in the streets of Belém Monday (Nov. 17) outside the U.N. climate summit venue, where delegates from over 190 countries continue negotiations. These are some of the voices from the streets of Belém.

INDIGENOUS LEADER 1: [Translated] We are here fighting for our land, for our wildlife, for our birds that are facing extinction. We are here at this COP for results. We ask that Brazilian President Lula come and demarcate the land so that the illegal miners don’t enter our land and our river.

INDIGENOUS LEADER 2: [Translated] We are here claiming our rights, defending our forests, defending our animals, where we have survived all these years. We need to be recognized by the world as great guardians of the forest.

AMY GOODMAN: As Indigenous protests continue here in Belém, the government of Brazil has announced the creation of 10 new Indigenous territories in response to demands from protesters. There are more than 900 Indigenous delegates accredited here at [COP30], the highest number at any U.N. climate summit.

We’re joined now by Diana Chávez. She is a member of the Pastaza Kichwa Nation, head of international affairs and organizations for Pakkiru, which is based in Ecuador’s Amazon, arrived in Belém three weeks ago. Can you talk about where you’re from in Ecuador? More

Cops cover up: Hot drunk cop kills motorist

Thinks fatal car crash is funny: "He didn't look okay" [because I mangled him with my vehicle]
You will cover up my crimes like I cover y'all!
(PoliceCamCentral) Washington State, summer 2025: Off-duty female cop drives drunk, kills motorcyclist, as police attempt to cover up her intoxication and avoid having her say anything incriminating on bodycam. She is finally arrested for DUI, found to be more than twice the legal limit. Through it all, she thinks the fatal crash she was involved in or caused is funny even as she is soaked in the blood of her victim, asking to be allowed to go home to get out of bloody and incriminating clothes as she gave CPR until she thought victim was dead and didn't bother to keep going, even though paramedics did continue. (She may have killed him by her drunken negligence as much as by colliding with him in the first place). It's silent behind the Blue Shield as other officers deserve to be arrested, investigated, and imprisoned for conspiracy charges of helping out their hot friend and colleague, scratching her back just as they would expect her to cover up for them.

Gladiator School at LA Juvenile Hall

10 Things I Hate About Private Prisons | American Civil Liberties Union of Texas

Surveillance video shows guards arranged ‘gladiator fights’ between minor inmates
(KTLA 5) March 3, 2025: Thirty Los Angeles County detention services officers are facing criminal charges for facilitating “gladiator fights” between youths at an LA County juvenile hall, allegedly because maybe our eyes are lying to us from all the hours of surveillance video catching them doing it.

Children as young as 12 abused by officers, who laugh and encourage them to hurt each other for their entertainment during 69 violent fights involving 143 child-convicts who are then told not to report it or seek medical attention for their injuries. Ironically, los pardrinos is Spanish for "the godparents," which male and female officers seem to have taken to mean Mafia members. \

10-year anniv of Eric 'I can't breathe' Garner

'I can't breathe': young Twitter poet gives new voice to Eric Garner | The Guardian
Illinois cops release bodycam video of when they shot Black woman who called for help | CNN
Hey, Blacks, don't want to be pulled over?
It seems to be a truism of this American life (in the USA rather than other parts of the Americas) that police abuse social minorities.

If a killer kop wants to kill, who's going to stop him, the corrupt court system that does everything it can to shield him from successful prosecution?
White females are a minority? - If I feel like it.
Police know they have wide latitude to kill, beat, and otherwise abuse poor, disenfranchised, dark skinned, or other socially subordinated groups at will. Blacks and Natives seem to get the worst of it, if mainstream news reports are to be believed. And every time another outrageous case of police brutality, implicit bias, or outright racism hits the news, there are protests. They are usually met with a paramilitary response.

The protected classes back the police so that they get to feeling/knowing who they work for. Police protect their protectors and abuse their abusers. It is part of the "system" under which we live.

    I Can't Breathe (Matt Taibbi)
Ten years ago, police on the East Coast thought it was reasonable to choke Eric Gardner to death. Or, say, it wasn't reasonable, nothing was going to happen if one or more did it. So they did.

Though he yelled, "I can't breathe" as he was being choked to death in an illegal chokehold, the police figured they could always say, "He was breathing enough to say he couldn't breathe" as they smirked.
    • From George Floyd to Sonya Massey and too many others to mention, these racist police crimes have continued to fill coffins and the coffers of Police Protection League chapters

July 18, 2024: It has been 10 years since the chokehold death of Eric Garner at the hands of [killer] New York City police officers made “I can’t breathe” a rallying cry. UCLA: People could have died as cops riot

We train for this. It serves as an outlet for our testosterone poisoning. We beat with impunity.

Before the LAPD and other paramilitary forces moved in on the peaceful UCLA student encampment with explosives, shotgun-style projectile cannons, manhandling teens and young adults and cuffing them with overly tight zip ties, expressing their aggression and impatience with disobedient young people, police allowed, instigated, or themselves went in under cover to do the same thing. This was a declared an unlawful assembly not because of student violence but because of outside violent attacks on the students by Jewish, pro-Jewish, pro-Zionist (Christian and Jewish), pro-genocide, pro-Israel thugs.

“People could have died”: Police raid UCLA's anti-genocide protest after pro-Zionist-Israel mob attacks encampment
(Democracy Now!) May 2, 2024: This is an update from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where police in riot gear began dismantling a pro-Palestinian encampment early Thursday, shooting students to break their bones and cause serious injury with rubber projectile cannons, concussive "flashbang" grenades, tear gas, and arresting dozens of students.

The heavy-handed raid came just over a day after pro-genocide counter-protesters for Israel armed with metal rods, 2x4s, and explosives (weapons grade fireworks) attacked UCLA students at their encampment.

The Real News Network reporter Mel Buer was on the scene when police dressed as stormtroopers and jackbooted thugs decided to attack.

Buer describes seeing counter-protesters provoke students, yelling slurs and bludgeoning them with parts of the encampment’s barricade, and says the attack lasted several hours without police or campus security intervention.

“UCLA is complicit in violence inflicted upon protesters,” wrote the editorial board of UCLA’s campus newspaper, The Daily Bruin, the next day.

Four of the paper’s student journalists were targeted and assaulted by counter-protesters while covering the peaceful demonstration (made violent by outside agitators championing Israel's genocide).

Democracy Now! speaks with Shaanth Kodialam Nanguneri, one of the student journalists, who says one of their colleagues was hospitalized over the assault, while campus security officers “were nowhere to be found.”

Meanwhile, UCLA’s chapter of Faculty for Justice in Palestine has called on faculty to refuse university labor Thursday in protest of the administration’s failure to protect students from what it termed “Zionist [violent Jewish and pro-Jewish] mobs.”

Professor Gaye Theresa Johnson, a member of UCLA Faculty for Justice in Palestine, denounces the administration’s response to nonviolent protest and says she sees the events as part of a major sea change in the politicization of American youth.

“This is a movement. It cannot be unseen. It cannot be put back in the box.”

Cop of the Year: mistakes acorn for gunshot

Indisputable (TYT); Telegraph, 2/12/24; Pfc. Sandoval, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

I will kill you and say I was scared.
"In fear we kill." While he should be imprisoned for attempted murder, paramilitary Deputy Jesse Hernandez is free and resting at home as his fellow police investigators allowed him to quietly "resign" to avoid any charges, burying this humiliating incident in his personnel record where no one can see it, not even the next department to hire him.

He's licensed to kill by Florida, and he was just exercising that right and privilege, as he will do with his personal firearms protecting himself at home and on the street with some concealed carry pistols he might want to hide in his belt or boot.

Cowardly armed US cop shoots at unarmed Black suspect handcuffed in his cruiser after mistaking falling acorn for gunshot
I searched him thoroughly before cuffing him and locking him in the cage built into my patrol vehicle. That's how I knew he might still have a gun to shoot at me...I resign. Cop says acorn made him do it.

(The Telegraph) Feb. 14, 2024: One cop then fellow police in Florida opened fire on a detained and handcuffed suspect sitting in cop's patrol car after claiming to mistake the sound of a falling acorn for a gunshot magically fired from the enclosed squad SUV.

Victim Marquis Jackson, a 22-year-old Black youth, was trapped in the back seat of the police vehicle and was forced to “play dead to prevent getting shot in the head.”

Officers had arrested Mr. Jackson on the morning of Nov. 12 on suspicion of stealing his girlfriend’s car. Although “verbally non-cooperative,” according to a Sheriff’s report, the young man did not offer any physical resistance as he was handcuffed and walked to the police car.

Shoot first, make excuses later: Blame acorns
Bodycam footage shows one of the officers, Sheriff's Deputy Jesse Hernandez, standing outside with a handgun when a small acorn drops ont the roof of his vehicle.

Apparently, he allegedly claims, he believed Mr. Jackson had gotten out of his handcuffs, pulled a gun out of his ***, and started shooting at him and/or the other heavily armed back up officers.

He thought it was a good idea to execute the handcuffed young Black man in retaliation. So he threw himself to the ground, shouting “shots fired” and “I’m hit” for the other officers to kill the suspect -- as he himself attempted to shoot the man and police vehicle to death.

He emptied his semi-automatic service pistol into the police SUV. He then crawled and took cover behind a different vehicle, as other officers opened fire on the suspect, telling his colleague that he was unharmed but that he may have been struck in his protective vest.
[This would constitute attempted murder and justify his and/or their act of killing the young, handcuffed suspect imprisoned in the police vehicle he could not possibly exit without assistance.]

Cop yells 'Shots fired!' [police code for 'Kill suspect'] and 'I'm hit!' after acorn falls on car, shoots at handcuffed suspect trapped in vehicle
(Indisputable with Dr. Rashad Richey) Feb. 14, 2024: A Florida cop was allowed to resign from his position as state licensed killer after recklessly shooting at a Black man handcuffed [and presumably frisked and cleared] in the back of his patrol car when he claims he mistook a falling acorn as gunfire. Dr. Rashad Richey and Wosny Lambre discuss on Indisputable.
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Florida (WKRG) — Victim Marquis Jackson recently shared, publicly, the story of what might have been the scariest day of his life. It all began at 8:42 am on Nov. 12, 2023, on McLaren Circle, when the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a vehicle driving around honking its horn, disrupting the peace since 3:00 am. A woman called the Sheriff’s Department, accusing Mr. Jackson, 22, of taking a vehicle and sending threats via text message and phone calls."

Sexist, racist police abuse their power?

'I'll paint you as crazy': Shocking moment US cop tackles ex-girlfriend before 'putting her in mental health facility
The Donald Trump face handgun  (LBC)
A married Pennsylvania State Police trooper is facing false imprisonment charges.

A Pennsylvania cop is facing false imprisonment charges for allegedly improperly committing his ex-girlfriend [actually current paramour] to a mental health institution.

Officer Ronald Keith Davis, 37, was arrested on Sept. 21 after being accused of abusing his authority to have his ex-girlfriend imprisoned.

He petitioned for an involuntary mental health commitment for her after alleging she was suicidal, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Leading up to the forced medical treatment, State Trooper Davis allegedly told her: “I know you’re not crazy; I’ll paint you as crazy.” He first turned to fellow troopers for help on Aug. 21, claiming that the woman was living in a camper on his property.

He said that they had not been getting along and "their relationship had deteriorated." He claimed he would not allow the woman to get her belongings from the property due to her acting erratically.

Trooper Davis provided several text messages, saying things such as, "I think I'm going to drive off a cliff" and "My mental health doesn't matter I'm a useless old stupid uneducated piece of sh**."
You will respect MY authority, Biznatch!
In footage released by the DA's office, Trooper Davis is seen sitting on top of his ex [whom he was cheating on his wife with] as she claimed he tackled her to the ground.

“You’re insane,” she said [to the aggressive policeman]. “You’re absolutely insane…and then you paint me to look insane.”

She could be heard saying several times: “I can’t breathe.” When the two got up, Trooper Davis restrained her as she insisted she did not do anything wrong.

The female victim appeared to “genuinely lack understanding on why she is being restrained,” the affidavit stated.

She was involuntarily committed for five days and did not display any suicidal [actions or] thoughts during that time, according to medical personnel.

She was released on Aug. 26 and interviewed by police. After reading messages between the pair, police alleged that Trooper Davis "failed to provide the full context of those messages" when he attempted to have the woman committed.

"In fact, the text messages were the culmination of a larger, domestic dispute between he and the victim," the affidavit said.

"Taken in context, the texts revealed her frustration with Trooper Davis and his controlling behavior (and her desire to break off the [illicit] relationship), not a true desire to harm herself."

Pennsylvania State Police charged Davis with felony strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and official oppression on Sept. 21. He was remanded without bail. More + VIDEO

Autopsy shows cops executed forest protector

DN!, 3/14/23; Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Autopsy suggests “Cop City” protester sitting cross-legged, hands up, when shot 14 times by police
(Democracy Now!) New details from an independent autopsy of the activist fatally shot by Atlanta police in January concludes the victim's hands were raised up and in front of the body when police decided to execute the meditator, Manny Teran, who uses they/them pronouns, to death.

Shrine: Cop City thugs' killing of Manny Terán
Georgia State Patrol shot Manuel "Tortuguita" Terán at least 14 times during a raid on an encampment of forest protectors opposing the forest's destruction to clear the way for the construction of a $90 million police training center dubbed "Cop City."

An independent autopsy released Monday also shows 26-year-old Tortuguita ("Little Tortoise/Turtle") was likely seated cross-legged when shot to death.

Tortuguita's family on Friday sued the city of Atlanta after the release of more video evidence of the police crime and conspiracy to conceal the illegal shooting was blocked.

"There's no reason to withhold this evidence. The public deserves to know. More importantly, the family deserves to know," says civil rights attorney Jeff Filipovits, who is representing the family.

He adds that even if law enforcement claims that Tortuguita may have fired on officers, there is no evidence of any such accusations.
