It is being built in Richmond, British Columbia and is expected to open in July of 2010. A Tibet style Thrangu Monastery in Canada is being built at 8140 No. 5 Road, Richmond, B.C. It will be finished by July of this year. And the secret is out – according to two unidentified sources that told me, the Thrangu Monastery in Canada will be opened by the 14th Dalai Lama on July 25, 2010. As of May 1, 2010 the construction work is largely completed. Craftsmen and workers are busy putting final touches on the magnificent edifice. Cleaning crews are also diligently preparing the building to be occupied once it opens. More>>

China on Monday widened its security lockdown ahead of two sensitive anniversaries, issuing an emergency notice to seal off the volatile Tibetan Ganzi prefecture to all foreigners (AP/Ng Han Guan).

KANGDING, China -- Home-made bombs damaged police vehicles in a Tibetan part of western China on Monday, and authorities expanded a security cordon across the restive region ahead of the 50th anniversary of a failed revolt that sent the Dalai Lama into exile.

Armed police patrolled the streets outside Buddhist monasteries, which have been at the forefront of many protests. New checkpoints went up on previously open roads, the Internet and text messaging have been blocked, and the government ordered foreigners out of the mixed Chinese-Tibetan city of Kangding. More>>
