Priests invented Christian/Catholic hell

(Beyond Sacred Beliefs) 7 lies about hell so absurd the Church never dares to explain Jewish Sheol (like the gloomy and shadowy "hells" of many religions), ancient Greek Hades (the Greek underworld), not "hell" but the eternal afterlife of sleep, quiet, cold, or doom like Jewish Abaddon and Greek Apollyon. The "Gates of Gehenna" were literal gates of the municipal dump where the poor unable to afford or those deemed unworthy of a "proper" burial were therefore disgraced by getting thrown into. There they (their carcasses now bereft of life) were "eaten by worms" in ignominy, surrounded by sulfuric smells and smoldering smoke day and night along with the gnashing of dead teeth, ground up into waste amid the lamenting wails of loved ones. How many lies have we been told by the official Church?

Buddhism has a point: realization of the Truth

Buddhism is nontheistic (not agnostic, not confirmed atheistic) and don't believe in some supreme ultimate creator God but can and do if they want to.

Theism and atheism both have very goods point and some reality to them. Pantheism and polytheism are closer to the truth.

There are no monotheists just henotheists, but they don't know it or don't want to admit it because they're afraid to question their own religion's beliefs. Parents said, priests said, Bible interpreters (and mistranslators) said...so we just believe them.

The Buddha visits Sakka and Maha Brahma

Many, probably most, Buddhists do believe in all kinds of gods (devas) and Gods (brahmas) and even GOD (Brahman, the Monad, the ONE), as well as many kinds of unseen beings. But are any of these invisible entities an ultimate creator of souls, bodies, realities, controlling everything that happens? No way, even though Jehovah (Yahweh), the Demiurge (Yaldabaoth), Allah, Ahura Mazda, YHWH, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and countless other "supreme beings" will say so or have priests say so for them.

There is Maha Brahma (the "Great Supremo") in Buddhism and the great Sakka (Indra), King of the Devas, and countless light beings (devas, lit. "shining ones") on many of the 31 Planes of Existence.

There is not just this world but worlds -- countless worlds -- to come in samsara. Rebirth is very real and has been since time immemorial but not often understood because most people are convinced it has to be some kind of "eternal soul" passing through all kinds of incarnations. It may seem that way, but ultimately it is not that way. Conventionally, yes. Many religions have good general descriptions even with culturally varying details.

So sacred texts and religious ideas can and sometimes are superior to answers science feeds us, as the Religion of the White Lab Coats claim to have irrefutable, testable, repeatable proof ("objective" unchanging evidence), mathematical formulas, cold logic, and views that later crumble. They always crumble. Science is incapable of coming to certainty about anything. There are no fixed conclusions. Everything needs more research and more scientists getting paid to work on things.

Science can't even agree on a definition of itself or its method. We are told to call it the "scientific method," but that changes and is applied differently everywhere, from lab to lab, university to university, city to city, state to state, country to country, and likely planet to planet.

Scientists, like religious priests in their flowing robes, tell us what is okay to believe, what we are given permission to believe without being laughed at -- no matter what is actually true or untrue.

We think "scientists" are unanimous. They are not! Not even within a single department of a single university. We think scientists hold to one worldview. They do not.

What's Zen Taoism got to do with anything?

In this country, most scientists are at least nominally "Christian" or members of some other Abrahamic faith. Why? If science were so sure about anything, at least it could be sure that creationists, intelligent design advocates, and fearmongers are out-and-out wrong.

But no, to play it safe, they align with one religion or another, almost always the one they were born into.

Way to go, science, what an inspiration and model for our reasoning and personal behavior.

We say, forget religion and science. But that can't easily be done, can it? So listen. Question. Think. Follow your heart and intuition and reason and the advice of noble friends and teachers. But to do this it is almost certainly going to mean we have to go check for ourselves what that advice is or has been in the past. We can't accept the words of well-meaning intermediaries, to say nothing of the ones who do not mean us well.

Accept what agrees with experience and understanding, like the Kalama Sutta suggests, but read it to the end. The Buddha does not stop at, "There is nothing to believe." He very much gives things that can be believed from our own personal experience and builds from there.

Unless we're enlightened, we ought never think we know for sure. After all, history shows, we humans are easily misled, too easily deceived, and sadly are also very much at risk of self-deception.

So purify the mind and heart, then systematically be mindful with it, then see for yourself if what the Buddha and the noble ones said was true isn't exactly as they said. That is our advice.

Because each person is responsible for one's own karma (deeds of thought, speech, and body that have the power to produce welcome and unwelcome results in the future), it is for each person to decide what to believe. Use it. Remain open. Truth is not arrived at by words but by practice and direct-seeing that produces insight.

This is one of the works by Mark Twain published after his passing. These essays were kept secret, having been written by Twain. They may have ruined his career. As it was, he was deep in debt and had lost his wife and one of his daughters.

It consists of a series of short stories, many of which deal with God and Christianity. Twain penned a series of letters from the point of view of a dejected bad angel on Earth.

The title story consists of letters written by the Archangel [Lucifer] Satan to Archangels Gabriel and Michael about his observations on the curious proceedings of earthly life and the nature of mankind's religions.

By analyzing the idea of heaven and God that is widely accepted by those who believe in both, Twain is able to take the silliness that is present and study it with the common sense that is absent. It is not an attack but rather a careful dissection.

Other short stories in the book include a bedtime tale about a family of cats Twain wrote for his daughters and an essay explaining why an anaconda is morally superior to Man.

Twain's writings in Letters from the Earth find him at a quizzical and questioning state, and readers are all the better for it.

If the Ten Commandments of Christianity, as borrowed or modified by Judaism because they come in varying official lists from the all-knowing, never wrong, and never ever misquoted or misunderstood God of All Things, are foolish. Not because rules are bad. Rules good. Clear instructions good. Boundaries good. Kindness and fairness to all, very good.

The foolishness derives from the fact that the religion can't even agree and these rules straight. Then we hear that the Black Egyptian Jew Moses (of the founding myth, aka the Exodus that never happened, who has now been scrubbed and completely Ashkenazified) dropped another list and broke the tablet, or perhaps he threw it in anger. In any case, the list changes. Who knew the list ever changed?

Henotheistic Judaism loves their bloody gods

The Ultimate Creator (the Demiurge, the El, the god, Baal, Molech, Yahweh, YHWH, Yaldabaoth, Jehovah, God thirsty for sacrificial blood when nothing else will do but black magic for the forgiveness of sin even if it means killing His son, the Big Whomever, Lord of the Universe and Children's Playgrounds and Hell because He rules all, knows all, decides all, wills all, controls all, and is never wrong not to the slightest, which is why He never changes His mind or His word or His law, unless someone talks to Him and gets a personal variance or exception) is said to have decreed them, so who can argue with them? They are the law, the Ritual Decalogue, the Finger of God pointing and cursing when He doesn't get His patriarch way. So OBEY and shut up.

But what about Buddhism's "Ten Precepts"?

What about them? The Buddha advised all human beings to restrain themselves and keep the precepts -- five, eight, ten, 227, 311, or more, in accordance with one's wishes for the future. A minimum of the basic five should remain inviolate because the wholesome (skillful) karma (actions, deeds) of doing so benefits beings here and hereafter, in this world and the next (a reference to many future worlds one finds oneself in in the future). These are not "commandments," not even for Buddhist monastics (nuns, monks, maechis, anagarikas, temporary novices and spiritual retreatants). They are undertaken voluntarily and violated voluntarily. The goal is not to "please" some god or God. It is to bring about peace of mind and purification of view by insight, which leads one to see things as they truly are. And in seeing them that way, one wishes no harm or suffering on anyone.

How dare Buddhism outline a standard of conduct for individuals/communities! Is that "Zen"?

How did the Buddha know and care so much?

Also note that none of the precepts is self-serving. There's no "Love Thy Buddha and worship Him above all" or "I am Thy Lord Your God, Obey me, you speck of dust!" or any such thing. All human societies would agree and have agreed for millennia and aeons (kalpas), that everyone is happier and has much more peace of mind when no one is going around killing, stealing, sexually misconducting themselves, lying (bearing false witness), or becoming so intoxicated that they are heedless to these guidelines for human conduct. The additional vows or precepts to temporarily abstain from luxuries, adornments and self-beautification, or eating at inappropriate times are all excellent aids to mindfulness (presence of mind), meditation (absorption), health (vigor and longevity), and undistracted focus.

Right action is just one factor of eight

What a heavenly world this would be if living beings here just kept these five. Rebirth in better worlds is possible just from better conduct here. And liberation from rebirth in any world is possible, making an end of all possible future suffering, is within reach. Maybe that's not what most people want or are aware of, but it is attainable. If all anyone ever wanted out of Buddhism were health, wealth, wishes, beauty, fame, and influence, that is all within reach through karma, here and now and there and then.

(Forbes Breaking News) May 16, 2024: At tonight's House Oversight Committee hearing, [white] Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's (R-GA) insult of [Black] Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) plunged the hearing into chaos, particularly when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) jumped in and took sides against Greene. Then Crockett got in the best line of the night, openly mocking Greene in the form of a hypothetical question about badly bleached blond hair and a butch body. Ehem, Marjorie? Sadly, the old white men in charge did not understand the question.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, evening, a House Oversight Committee hearing intended to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt quickly devolved into a heated and disorderly exchange between Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The session was initially convened to address Garland's refusal to comply with a subpoena for an audio recording of Pres/ Biden's interview with a special counsel. However, tensions flared when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene made a derogatory comment about Rep. Jasmine Crockett's appearance, prompting an intense response from [AOC] Rep. Ocasio-Cortez [who got all Puerto Rican or Cuban and New Yorker with a kind of, Oh no you diddent, aw hell no you diddent kind of vibe, made worse by the addition of "baby girl."

During the hearing, Greene interrupted Crockett with a personal attack, stating, "I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading."

This remark led to audible groans in the chamber and a plea for order from Committee Chairman James Comer.

Ocasio-Cortez immediately called for Greene's words to be "taken down," a procedural move allowing the speaker to withdraw or amend the words if deemed inappropriate.

I'm from New York. I eat Greenes for lunch.

Greene's retort, "Are your feelings hurt?" was met with Ocasio-Cortez's sharp response, "Oh girl, baby girl! Don’t even play!"

Ocasio-Cortez insisted that Greene's comments were unacceptable and demanded a sincere apology to Rep. Crockett, rejecting any insincere or smarmy apologies.

Despite the heated back-and-forth, Greene eventually agreed to strike her words but refused to apologize, further insulting Ocasio-Cortez's intelligence.

The situation escalated when Rep. Jamie Raskin asked Greene again if she would apologize, to which she defiantly replied, "You will never get an apology out of me."

The contentious exchange highlighted deep divisions and personal animosities among committee members, drawing significant attention and criticism.

Rep. Crockett later expressed her frustration on social media, emphasizing the inappropriate and chaotic behavior displayed by some members of Congress.

Pope too sick for Easter this year

In previous years, Pope and future San Francis[co] was happy to rub women's feet during Holy Week.

This year, he's not feeling so well. In fact, he's going to sit this Easter out if that's alright with the Catholic world. He's busy attending to his body.

God has not given him the health to head the world's oldest corporation in charge of making God's will known to sinners or how to pay indulgences or say Hail Marys to make up for their wicked and evil sinfulness.
