Guests gathered surrounded by greenery in the hills of Los Angeles near Mulholland Drive, ordering dinner plates for Chef Rawsheed's vegan creations. The DJs arrived to set up, but first Vanessa led us in a yoga class as most people looked on and socialized, eating fresh fruits spread all around and sipping cold drinks.
The shocking announcement was made after introductions by Paige for Samantha about the goals and aims of Plant Based Treaty. Justine covered the Campaign for Banning the Retail Sale of Animals in L.A. The shock was that Vanessa is moving to the south of France to start a vegan commune (intentional community) around a chateau, where she will then run for mayor and create a vegan city. First she writes a book on fairies, loses her health clinic (ElloraWellness.com) in the Eaton Fire, and decides to uproot and resettle in Europe. But she will travel between here and there and is still leading a tour to the ancient Mayan archeological sites in Mexico in 2025 (after a successful trip to Egypt). Post party we made plans to eat Thai vegan food at THE VEGAN JOINT, 980 S. San Pedro St., DTLA

Californians to take their coffee with a CANCER WARNING
Proposition 65 warning sign at LA Starbucks
LOS ANGELES, California - An L.A. judge has determined that coffee companies must carry an ominous cancer warning label because of a dangerous, carcinogenic chemical produced in the coffee bean roasting process.
Superior Court Judge Elihu Berle said Wednesday that Starbucks and other companies have failed to show that benefits from drinking coffee outweigh risks.
I'm addicted to Starbucks, caffeine, sugar.
He ruled in an earlier phase of trial that companies had not shown that the threat from the carcinogenic chemical was insignificant.
The Council for Education and Research on Toxics, a nonprofit group, sued Starbucks and 90 other companies under a state law that requires warnings on a wide range of chemicals that can cause cancer.
Cancer is a Bitch (Gail Kanap Baker)
One such chemical is called acrylamide, the result of browning foods and a carcinogen present in coffee.
"Defendants [like Starbucks] failed to satisfy their burden of proving...that consumption of coffee confers a benefit to human health," Judge Berle wrote in his proposed ruling.
The coffee industry had claimed the chemical was present at "harmless levels" and should be exempt from the law because it results naturally from the burning process that makes beans more flavorful. It also argued... More
Buddhism and tea go way back: Ch'an tea culture, China (BuddhistChannel.tv).
.
Maybe American yerba mate (a kind of Holly introduced by the Guarani Native Americans in South America) is better than Chinese (sine=chine) "tea" (Camellia sinensis or cha). Matcha means powdered young green tea leaves, which is extra potent with phytonutrients and caffeine. But what is "tea"?
The Tea Leaf
Darjeeling is from Buddhist Himalayan India
Many people are surprised to learn that all teas -- white, green, oolong, black, and pu-erh -- are made from the leaves of the same species.
While the varietal of the particular Camellia sinensis plant as well as the weather conditions and soil contribute to the final taste of the tea, the significant differences of tea type develop in the processing of the leaves.
The distinguishing factor that determines whether a tea plant will become white, green, oolong, or black tea is oxidation. [More oxidation turns an anti-oxidant rich green leaf black or "in between" called oolong.]
Oxidation begins after the leaf has been plucked from the plant to begin the process of being dried, withered, rolled, and heat-treated. A black tea is fully oxidized, causing it to turn black, while a white tea is barely oxidized at all, thus retaining its soft, silvery down.

Kojima, June Yoriko Tanemura, and Yasuko Takahashi, who all practice the Japanese "Way of Tea" in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Most of us tend to call many things we infuse in hot water a "tea." But technically, it’s only tea if it’s made from the leaves of Camellia sinensis, an evergreen plant indigenous to China and India [particularly Ceylon/Sri Lanka, the Buddhist teardrop-shaped island at the tip of India]. Today tea is grown in over 100 countries to meet the worldwide demand.
Do you fresh young green tea powder yet?
Tea is the world’s second most popular beverage, after water. More people in the US are drinking tea than ever before, joining a booming worldwide trend. Increased understanding of the role antioxidants play in weight loss as well as the prevention of cancer and cardiovascular disease has revealed tea as an ideal health beverage.
Fresh brewed tea is 100% natural, fat-free, calorie-free, gluten-free, sugar-free, preservative-free, and low in caffeine -- tea is the healthy choice. More
The Tea Ceremony Kirsten Dirksen (faircompanies.com) edited by Wisdom Quarterly
I've got a principle in my hand.
Cha-do ("tea-way") is often translated as "tea ceremony," but it or chanoyu ("way of tea") is neither a ceremony nor a ritual in the strictest sense. It is more a culinary celebration of arts or crafts and philosophy, particularly in Zen Buddhism.
It originated in China in the 8th century, spread to Japan in the 9th, and became an art sometime around the 12th century. It wasn't until this past century that the "way of tea" became accessible. In Japan it can now be studied like home economics or in a college club.
The lure may be partly in the brew. Tea has always been used for health. Christy Bartlett of the San Francisco Urasenke Foundation explains that following the form, which she compares to the practice of music, helps one to find intense focus in the moment. As you sip, be here now. More
After flying to an altitude of 39,045 meters (128,100 feet or 24.26 miles) in a helium-filled balloon, daredevil "astronaut" Felix Baumgartner completed a record breaking jump for the ages. He is "the man who fell to Earth."
From the edge of space, exactly 65 years after Chuck Yeager first broke the sound-barrier flying in an experimental rocket-powered airplane, Felix broke the record in a special airtight suit. He reached a maximum freefall speed of 1,342.8 km/h (833 mph) through the near vacuum of Earth's stratosphere.
Beavis & Butthead, Jackass, are teens already trying this at home?
He was later slowed down by the friction of our atmosphere during his 4:20-minute-long drop. The 43-year-old Austrian skydiving expert also broke two other world records (highest freefall, highest manned balloon flight), leaving the record for the longest freefall to project mentor Col. Joe Kittinger, who was manning Mission Control during the jump.
Red Bull sponsored extreme sports compilation (2012)

What is "Red Bull"?
Pat Macpherson, Seven, Wisdom Quarterly (COMMENTARY)
I'm not real, just here to sell mo' sugar.
Legend has it that a traveling toothpaste salesman was passing through Buddhist Thailand when someone offered him an energizing syrup. It worked (caffeine kick), so the salesman tracked down the elixir-concocter and said, We should sell this to the West. But first we carbonate it.
The taste, apparently, never mattered. Is it healthy? Who cares? Do people drop dead at raves chugging it with Vodka? Maybe. So what, the maker says. That's not his problem. Red Bull gives you [corporate jingle] wings! There is no evidence that Felix Baumgartner was a drinker. But Aunt Jemima don't eat no pancakes neither. That doesn't keep a room full of mostly White male executives (at RB or General Mills, Inc.) from cashing in on their comforting brand logo/mascot.
Auntie J originally came from an old timey racist minstrel show of White people in blackface promoting stereotypes. The corporation puts the best spin doctoring on its product's public face. Red Bull may not be good for human consumption, but they do sponsor great feats in extreme sports and funny commercials. If the Honey Boo Boo Thompson Family uses it to make Go-Go Juice and bring on obesity, diabetes, and gray hair, why would anybody blame the corporation that produces it? Soda doesn't help anyone do anything worthwhile, but brand affiliations might. White sugar is toxic, but the artificial sweetener Aspartame is worse.
How much sugar do we consume? Americans might be surprised just how much sugar there is in everyday drinks and foods. I reveal the shocking truth about how much sugar we are eating.
Sugar is a highly processed chemical
Common things like soft drinks, Starbucks, McDonald's, fast foods, alcohol -- they are all FULL of addictive sugar.
Let's look closely at how much sugar there is in "healthy" orange juice, blueberry muffins, Pop Tarts, Lucky Charms, BBQ sauce, Coca Cola, Gatorade, frappuccino mocha coffee, chocolate cake desserts, and more.
Top 10 Worst Foods
There is a relationship between sugar/high fructose corn syrup to hunger, weight gain, obesity, low energy, inflammation, digestive troubles, depression, exhaustion, brittle bones, bad teeth, diabetes, cancer, and bad health. This is an eye-opener even for people not on a diet.
BodyMindSuccess.com We know the effects of sugar are not good. But to what degree do we know? I thought I had a pretty good understanding, but after watching this video and the series of videos listed below, it has become clear that there is much more I didn’t know. For example, sugar is the Number One addiction -- above cocaine and other addictive drugs. Sugar contributes to weight gain, sure, but “sugar” is disguised in many forms. Sugar affects many things (cancer, low sugar, diabetes, insulin insensitivity, inflammatory conditions, hunger, vision, insomnia, malnutrition, aging...). More
