It's Springtime of Netanyahu and a German comic should write a musical about it as the great American comedian did for Hitler because they are very different and it would generate good ticket sales.

(Hebrew רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה, lit. "head of the year") is the New Year in Judaism. The biblical name for this holiday is Yom Teruah (יוֹם תְּרוּעָה‎, lit. "day of shouting and shofar blasting"). It is the first of the High Holy Days (יָמִים נוֹרָאִים‎, "Days of Awe/Fear"), as specified by Leviticus 23:23–25 [1] that occur in the late summer/early autumn in the Northern Hemisphere.

We use "American" as if it means citizen of the United States, but there are at least four Americas (North, Meso, Central, and South), and all the people living on the continent are rightfully "Americans." In the Americas there is one special country, which although part of North America, gets no such credit. A special designation of "Mesoamerica" was given it, a middle land between central and north, one full of vast cultural treasures as the former site of various empires (Mexica, Aztec, Maya, Olmec, Toltec).

Of course, following Columbus and the Conquistadores, the whole place was overrun by Europeans who have mixed and blended in. Among them, from the beginning, were Crypto-Jews or Conversos from Spain and elsewhere, forced to renounce their Sephardic Jewish identity and become Catholic at least in name. It has been more than 500 years of European oppression, for Jews (who seem to have been thrown out of a whole list of at least 20 countries over the centuries, according to Eric Dubay and established historians) as well as the indigenous peoples of the Americas, the native population of many now independent countries up and down the Americas.

There was a Japanese leader before there was a Jewish president, but today at last not only a Jew but a woman has been raised to the ceremonial position of "president." Will Kamala Harris be next so the U.S. can stop being the laughingstock of regressive politics and policies like its death penalty, pollution rates, poverty, and hypocrisy? Not if patriarch Trump and handsome Vance and their Turn Back The Clock (MAGA) movement have anything to say about it.

Scientists say they've found the trigger for ancient Maya's collapse, and it reads like a warning

Researchers peering back through 800 years of history have concluded that Mayapan – the capital of culture and politics for the Maya people of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula (across the Gulf from the USA) in the 13th and 14th century CE – may well have been undone by drought.

That drought would have led to civil conflict, which would, in turn, have brought about political collapse, according to the researchers.

People would then have retreated to smaller and safer settlements. As well as giving us a useful insight into the history of this ancient people, the 2022 study served as a warning as well: about how shifts in climate can quickly put pressures on even the most well-established and prosperous civilizations. 

"Multiple data sources indicate that civil conflict increased significantly, and generalized linear modeling correlates strife in the city with drought conditions between 1400 and 1450 CE," wrote the researchers in their paper, published in July 2022.

"We argue that prolonged drought escalated rival factional tensions, but subsequent adaptations reveal region-scale resiliency, ensuring that Maya political and economic structures endured until European contact in the early 16th century CE."

The team already had a lot of historical records to work with, covering population change, contemporary diets, and climate conditions.

These records were augmented with a new analysis of human remains for signs of traumatic injury (pointing to conflict). More

We never realized how close the touristy parts of Mexico are. From Los Angeles to the border with Mexico is less than an hour -- if the Highway Patrol is chasing behind and there's no traffic. But getting anywhere other than TJ (Tijuana) is not as easy. One might need a visa. Certainly, a passport is now necessary.

What's that in the forest, a head? - No, a pyramid.

One can go party in Rosarito over the weekend. But in doing so, one will never know how great Mexico is. First of all, 80% of the country is empty. People live in only a small band representing 20% around the capital. The strange demographics have more to do with terrain than demographics. But American tourists are really interested in the beaches and pyramids, the foods and cultural diversity of the United States of Mexico (Los Estados Undios Mexicanos, the country's real name).

• There used to be a Green Tortoise bus, where everyone would meet everyone and get very close before arriving at various adventure destinations. Wouldn't a boat from anywhere along the Gulf Coast be a better place to launch for a short ride over warm waters for backpackers?

Each state has a particular influence from an influx of foreigners, such as the Germans of Jalisco. Few places have many Indigenous Nahuatl speaking (because Spanish is the foreign language of colonizers in Mexico) folks left, but every place bears their imprint on Mexican history and society.

The Mexica tribe is why it's called "Mexico." They were Aztecs or remnants of the Maya, Mixtecs, Toltecs, Olmecs, and others from before the conquest (European invasion spearheaded by the Europeans of Spain), all now Mestizos or "Blends."

But who knew just how close the tourist attractions of Mexico are? Cancun is closer than Baja California? Cut across and over the Gulf, or swim from Cuba, or drive down into Mesoamerica on a jeep and swing back up. It's time to visit!
