- Canada’s House speaker resigns after inviting Ukrainian Nazi who fought for Nazi unit
- The speaker of Canada’s House of Commons has resigned after inviting a Ukrainian man who fought for a Nazi military unit during the WWII to Parliament to attend a speech by current Ukrainian Pres. Volodymyr Zelensky, who delivered an address in the House of Commons on Friday and applauded the Ukrainian Nazi. Canadian lawmakers gave 98-year-old Nazi Yaroslav Hunka a standing ovation when Speaker Anthony Rota drew attention to him. Mr. Rota introduced Mr. Hunka as a "war hero" who fought for the First Ukrainian [Nazi] Division. It later was publicized that the First Ukrainian Division was [a Nazi unit] also known as the Waffen-SS Galicia Division, or the SS 14th Waffen Division, a voluntary unit that was under the command of the [German] Nazis.
- In Moscow, a Kremlin spokesman said it was “outrageous” that [Nazi] Hunka received a standing ovation. Russian Pres. Volodymyr Putin has painted his opponents in Ukraine as “neo-Nazis,” although Pres. Zelensky [who may not actually be] Jewish and lost relatives in the Holocaust. “It’s highly unfortunate and the only winner here is the Putin regime, which is already spinning what happened on Friday to justify its ongoing military actions in Ukraine,” said Prof. Daniel Beland, a political scientist at McGill University in Montreal. The opposition Conservatives in Canada have blamed PM Justin Trudeau... More

Death of Nobel: Bob Dylan wins lit prize
![]() |
| WTH?! This is impossible! |
"The times they are a changin'." Pulitzer Prize-winning Jewish-Christian folk-hippie troubadour/poet Bob Dylan (who allegedly chose his nom de plume after the famous poet Dylan Thomas, which he denies) has been voted the latest Nobel Laureate in "literature."
![]() |
| I love war. I never said I didn't, kids. |
He plays this weekend at Coachella's "Desert Trip." So potheads will be headed en masse to see a laureate perform his literature before an unusually big crowd. Elvis must feel cheated.

But in a shocking decision, songwriter Bob Dylan -- not novelists Philip Roth, Don DeLillo, or Thomas Pynchon [or folk superstars Woody Guthrie or Joni Mitchell] -- won “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

Miss Nepal beauty pageant to be held

Modern beauty queen butts up against adoration of traditional Living Goddess (AP).
(WQ Editorial) While Nepal is predominantly Buddhist, with overwhelming influence from nearby Tibet, it has on paper been considered the world's only remaining Hindu Kingdom. A periodic, biased census ensures that, by the wishes of its dominant trading partner to the south. The pageant ran into controversy in 2008 when the then Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) (CPN-M), who had ended its 10-year armed revolt and signed a peace agreement with the government in 2006, returned to mainstream politics and its Women's Wing opposed the pageant.
"Miss Nepal widens the division between the haves and have-nots," said Amrita Thapa Magar, chief of the party's Women's Wing, last year, explaining why they were opposing the contest. "Only affluent women who can afford the cosmetics and wardrobes needed can take part." Magar also said the contest degraded women to "commodities" and "social inferiors" at a time when her party was trying to build a "new Nepal."
Last year, when the Maoist party headed the government, the strong opposition to Miss Nepal caused the pageant to be canceled. Now, with a new [pro-Chinese] government at the helm, the organizers are hoping that Miss Nepal can be held again.

Nepal: Maoists disrupt, protest

Nepal's Maoists disrupted parliament on Friday and threatened to launch street rallies to protest against the government's failure to resolve a fight triggered by the firing of the army chief, officials said. The Maoists waged a decade-long civil war until a 2006 peace deal brought them to the mainstream. They scored a surprise victory in last year's election and formed the nation's first government after the abolition of the 239-year-old monarchy.BBC COVERAGE
