Jimmy Dore Show: Israel, medicine, vax

Making the Cut: How to Heal Modern Medicine
Dr. Aaron Kheriaty, M.D.
Author Dr. Aaron Kheriaty has 4.6 out of 5 stars (with 28 reviews). There is a cure for medicine’s ills, but it’s going to hurt. Effective treatment, as every doctor knows, begins with accurate diagnosis.

Making the Cut is about what’s going on in the house of medicine. Medicine got sick.
  • One in three people now distrust the healthcare system.
  • Following the pandemic, two-thirds of Americans doubt medical scientists will act in the best interest of the public.
  • We are grappling with an epidemic of chronic illness—heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, stroke, and chronic lung and kidney disease—affecting six in ten Americans, which medicine seems powerless to fix.
The overall life expectancy of Americans has declined for the first time since the Great Depression. Not only are trust levels tanking,
  • the number of doctors is dropping dramatically.
  • Physicians are quitting in droves.
  • One in five doctors will leave medicine in the next two years.
  • One in three will reduce their hours.
A doctor, we assume, wounds in order to heal. “You’re going to feel a sharp pain!” she says, before making the cut. Today, though, all too often the doctor wounds without healing. Why?

In Making the Cut, Dr. Kheriaty, one of the country's leading public intellectuals and preeminent bioethicists, reveals what medicine gave him—and what it sometimes took from him.

This book is about how he grew from an overconfident pre-med to an ambivalent medical student to a capable physician who had fallen in love with medicine—even if his lover has turned into a prostitute of late.

While presenting a damning diagnosis of contemporary medicine, Making the Cut also applies the wounding scalpel in order to heal it. More

Eating KORN for suicide prevention

Korn at BMO after supporting SOAD at SSW
Now that Suicide Prevention Month is wrapped up, it's time to listen to some Korn again. They're in concert this weekend in SoCal. Due to leaks of credit card and personal financial information, one woman had her virtual tickets transferred to someone else. TicketMaster is to blame. How doe

September is National Suicide Prevention Month (samhsa.gov) and if you've found a way to hang on, let's see if we could feel, think, and reason our way through this. Unless you're recovering from some attempt, the thoughts are the problem. What reasoning has let to contemplating a permanent solution to a temporary problem? It's all in the thinking. Thinking is a trap, basing decision on unquestioned assumptions. Become aware of the assumption, and all the thinking built on them magically falls away..

September is a month to [listen Guns 'n' Roses' "September Rain," very sad and depressing] and to remember the lives lost to suicide. Millions of people have struggled...
NAMI (nami.org) don't like it. Get involved because awareness is the way to prevention, whereas lack of mindfulness and clear comprehension (sati-sampajanna) is the way to automatic pilot. A dog chases a tail. Does it ever figure out that's its tail? One bite would do it, but it's too fast.

Is there ever a time to raise awareness of this urgent crisis? It's like asking, "When is the best time to plant a tree?" We use this month to shift public perception and spread hope.

Prevention beats trying to cure the spiraling when someone falls into a tailspin. That dog just won't stop. One way is to call (988) LIFE-LINE. Every year, the 988 Lifeline and other mental health organizations and individuals across the U.S. raise awareness of suicide prevention during September.

AFSP.org hails National Suicide Prevention Month and Week. This is a moment in time when we rally the public to create awareness of this leading cause of death and inspire more self-compassion.

If only there were a toolkit for suicide prevention (nimh.nih.gov). There is a Digital Toolkit for Suicide Prevention Month. Join the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to raise awareness by sharing resources that can help one recognize the warning signs of suicide and do something about it.

Re-wilding buffalo prevents wildfires

How bison could be the natural solution to wildfire management
Who would return to tending the land after processed foods, booze, and casino money?

Stop killing and eating us. We can work together.
As wildfires increasingly ravage large swathes of land across the globe, scientists and conservationists are turning to an unexpected ally: the European bison.

Recent studies and conservation efforts in Spain suggest that these majestic creatures could play a crucial role in managing the overgrown vegetation that fuels wildfires.

White men shoot bison for genocide of Indians
Bison have long been recognized as ecosystem engineers, capable of significantly altering their habitats. Their feeding habits and physical strength allow them to clear dense undergrowth, creating firebreaks naturally.

These firebreaks can help contain fires and prevent them from spreading uncontrollably. More: How bison could be the natural solution to wildfire management

Dentist says better than floss: Xylitol

Breakthrough gum?
Hydroxyapatite mineral rebuilds tooth cavities.

Truth about flossing we aren't being told
I'm a dentist so I know flossing is not the answer.
(Dr. Ellie Phillips) The truth about flossing teeth. Most of us have been told our entire life to floss teeth daily because flossing is the staple of a healthy mouth. This is what we are told by dentists, TV, family, and friends. But it's not true, well, not exactly. It could cause harm. There are better things to do (xylitol sugar, licorice, massaging, etc.)

Grow back gums by disinfecting and letting nature do it.

How often should we floss? The truth of the matter may surprise most people because of what flossing actually means to oral health. Remove cavity bacteria. Keep the mouth clean (not sterile, which only invites infection by harmful bacteria) with the right probiotics (good bacteria).

Cannabis may prevent coronavirus: study

Jimmy Dore (jimmydorecomedy.com); Pat Macpherson, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Cannabis extracts prevent coronavirus

CBD with THC is a healing plant entheogen.
Cannabis extracts may help to prevent coronavirus, preliminary study suggests.

CBD may become a useful and safe addition to the treatment of Covid-19 as an adjunct therapy (independent.co.uk, May 18, 2020).

Canadian researchers at the University of Lethbridge in Calgary are studying more than 400 strains of cannabis and have determined that at least a dozen may offer potential as part of treatments to prevent coronavirus from infecting a host.

According to the researchers the effective strains have, in some instances, managed to reduce virus receptors, which reduces the chance for an individual to catch coronavirus....

Marijuana may prevent COVID-19
Researchers are making new medicinal strains.
New Canadian study says marijuana may prevent the [novel] coronavirus (thesource.com) Weed preventing COVID-19? That high hope seemed to rise from this headline:

"Cannabis may stop coronavirus from infecting people, study suggests." University scientists are now theorizing that certain marijuana strains [they don't reveal which] could possibly prevent COVID-19 infection.

The study’s head researcher Dr. Igor Kovalchuk said, “A number of them have reduced the number of these (virus) receptors by 73 percent, the chance of it getting in is much lower. If they can reduce the number of receptors, there’s much less chance of getting infected.”

Researchers were able to identify 13 CBD extracts that are able to change ACE2 levels, an enzyme previously linked to COVID-19 infection. The data also suggested that some strains were also able to control serine protease TMPRSS2...

Cannabis stops coronavirus?
April 2020 was another record-breaking month for sales in Canada of 89 million dollars.
.

A new study from Canada suggests that cannabis extracts containing THC and CBD could prevent the novel coronavirus from infecting human cells.

The study, published online at Preprints, was conducted by a team of biologists licensed to grow marijuana and hemp under a Health Canada research license.

Using 13 different cannabis oils extracted from newly developed strains, the team discovered that certain oils containing the cannabinoids CBD and THC could lower human cell production of two key proteins that serve as gateways for COVID-19 virus to enter the body and cause infection.

St. Corona: Patron Saint of Epidemics (video)

Reuters.com, March 25, 2020 (updated 3/26/20); Santiebeati.it; KRQE News 13, 3/22/20; Crass; and Wiki edited by Pfc. Sandoval, Crystal Quintero, Ashley Wells (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
.
Local artists are looking to the ancient St. Corona, a 16-year-old martyr, for help after the Coronavirus outbreak stalls their business.

The Internet is abuzz because the Holy Roman Catholic Church, with its CEO in the Vatican Corporation offices, has just unearthed a long forgotten female saint, St. Corona.

The buzz is that she was the "patron saint of epidemics," as reported last night by dimwitted Government Operative George Noory on this country's largest radio station (coasttocoastam.com, 3/25/20). She, along with Saint Victor, was originally the patron saint of treasure hunting and money.
Saints Victor and Corona
But about 1000 AD, Otto III brought St. Corona's relics to Aachen in western Germany. Though evidence is scarce that she was invoked against epidemics, Reuters reports that indeed she is "patron saint of epidemics" (reuters.com).

Moreover, according to Reuters, her relics will be available for public veneration "once the coronavirus pandemic has passed."

.

St. Corona
Victor and Corona's memorial day is November 24 (Nov. 11 on the Greek Orthodox Church calendar). Their feast day is May 14 [about the time this pandemic should have faded away].

In northern Italy, outside the town of Feltre, on the slopes of Mt. Miesna, there is a Church of Saints Vittore e Corona (santiebeati.it), erected by the murderous European Crusaders from Feltre after the First Christian/Catholic Crusade that set out to kill infidel foreigners.

St. Corona is venerated in Austria and eastern Bavaria, where she is invoked in connection with superstitions involving money, such as gambling and treasure hunting ("German cathedral dusts off relics of St. Corona, patron of epidemics," reuters.com, March 25, 2020). More

Trump: no birth control. India: no condom ads

Ashley Wells, S.A. Ananda, CC Liu, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly; Sanjana Agnihotri (IndiaToday.in); DailyDot.com; Sunny Leone (video, Wiki); Sayitwithacondom.com; BBC.com
Message to Klansman Fred (Trump's dad): Some people should never have been born (DD).
Think India's uptight Not US is full of prudes, but Trump's America will no longer stand for free birth control! Trump pushes back reproductive rights, rescinds free birth control (BBC).

.
Use...while you're getting screwed
Pres. Don Juan Trump fulfilled a promise to conservative Christians today. He rescinded a key provision of Romneycare (aka "Obamacare," the ACA or "Affordable Care Act") that allowed citizens to exercise their reproductive rights: Trump rolls back free birth control: The new Trump rule could strip birth control coverage from millions of American females, demolishing an Obama provision. VP Pence is very happy since he wants to ban condoms altogether. (See below).

India: Take down those sexy condom ads!
Filthy and shocking pornographic ad suggests using condoms during holy Navratri (IT)
.
I did it for the money. Why are they mad?
Sunny Leone condom ad that says "Khelo magar pyaar se [Play with love] this Navratri" stirs controversy. [The playful meaning here is "Whatever you do this holiday, do it with love," nudge-nudge, wink-wink.] The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has accused Sunny Leone of being irresponsible and going to "any level irrespective of pious and religious occasion of Navratri" to earn money.

    Former porn actress Sunny Leone
Who in the world is Sunny Leone? Karenjit Kaur Vohra (1981-), known by her stage name Sunny Leone, is a former pornstar with American citizenship. She is a Canadian-born Sikh Indian-American actress and model, currently active in the Indian film industry ("Bollywood"). She has also used the stage name Karen Malhotra. She was named porn magazine Penthouse's Pet of the Year in 2003, was a contract performer for pornographers Vivid Entertainment, and was named by porn-lite Maxim magazine one of the Top 12 porn stars in 2010. She has played roles in independent mainstream films and TV shows. Her first mainstream appearance was in 2005, when she worked as a red carpet reporter for the MTV Video Music Awards on MTV India.

I may be Indian, but I do what I want (SL).
Indian men have a love-hate relationship with Sunny Leone, the brand ambassador of Manforce condoms. Using sanskaar as their shield, these men harp about how un-sanskaari she is.

Manforce put up banners across Gujarat that had Sunny Leone advertising condoms with a tagline that mentions Navratri. This did not go down well with some people. CAIT wrote a letter to the Minister for Consumer Affairs Ram ["God"] Vilas Paswan calling this tactic a "clear irresponsible and immature attempt to boost sales by putting all our cultural value system at stake." CAIT wants the ad to be banned now. More
How conservative Vice President Mike Pence feels about condoms...Ban them!
Why do you and Trump want to BAN condoms? - They're "too modern and too liberal"!
In America, we get our condoms the old-fashioned way. We steal them.
.
BBC: Why is a condom ad with Sunny Leone angering Indians?
What's the big deal? Men are hypocrites.
A condom company has been forced to pull down an advertisement promoting their popular Manforce brand ahead of the major Hindu festival of Navratri in the western state of Gujarat after protests by some Indians.

The BBC's Geeta Pandey in Delhi explains the controversy: Just days before the nine-day festival was to begin on Thursday, huge billboards went up in several cities in the state in which the Canadian actress of Indian origin Sunny Leone is seen advising people to "Play this Navratri, but with love [Aa Navratriye ramo, paraantu prem thi]."

OMKrishna, I didn't realize she was a pornstar!
A former porn star who has made a successful transition to the role of leading lady in hit Bollywood movies, Ms. Leone has a massive fan following in India.

And she is now the brand ambassador for Manforce, the country's biggest condom company.

American nuns agree with Rev. Trump and India's conservatives: no condoms!
.
I'm huge, nuns. That I can assure you.
The advert outraged some conservative Indians who accused the contraceptive firm of "taking marketing to an all-time low."

Many took to social media sites to criticize the "offending advert" and the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) even lodged a complaint with the government, calling for an immediate ban on it.

"This is an irresponsible and immature attempt to boost sales by putting all our cultural values at stake," the organization said in a petition to Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.

Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday, CAIT general secretary Praveen Khandelwal said: "Navratri is a pious festival which symbolizes the strength of women [by honoring Goddess/Devi Durga, and linking condoms with the festival is highly objectionable." More
