"Enlightenment" on Mad Men (TV)

The final scene of Mad Men, Don's "awakening" starts at Minute 1:36.

What is the Way, the Path to Freedom?
How shall we
awaken to the Truth? That's a good question. Everything can wait, but enlightenment cannot wait. It is so incredibly rare that the Dharma (the Teaching of an Awakened One) is available in the world -- the way to the end of all suffering, the path to bliss and reality of nirvana. That's not what madman Don Draper realized. Make no mistake. He just had an epiphany, a moment of Zen satori or kensho, a brief glimpse of the bigger picture. But the biggest picture is nirvana -- the unconditioned element -- the Buddha saw and made known for others to directly see and thereby be liberated once and for all.
Don Draper's final scene
Mad Men is an AMC series about crazy ad men (advertisers), jingle-writers, the worst people in the world, responsible for paying for most of the mainstream media we consume or have fed to us. You know, the makers of intrusive and annoying commercials and print ads. Like The Sopranos fans were left a bit perplexed by the ending. Years later, it has become clear:

We finally understand the ending of Mad Men
(Looper, 11/28/19) Mad Men is one of the most praised TV dramas of all time, and viewers were wondering from the beginning how it would wrap up the story of Don Draper. He was anything but heroic, and many expected his death to be the ending of the show.

But that isn’t how Mad Men decided to go out. Instead they played a Journey track. "Don't Stop Believing," in one of the biggest miscalculations in American TV history. No, that was The Sopranos.

Don got to his breaking point after realizing some things about himself, but he ultimately found peace in the final moments of the show and even dreamed up one of the most famous ads of all time (that Pepsi jingle). Let’s take a look at the explanation of the ending. #MadMen #TVShow #TV
