World’s Largest Wildlife Crossing Is Now Under Way in L.A. (curbed.com)

Earth Day is a big day in the concrete jungle that is Los Angeles. Sadly, a day after another lion (P-97) was killed by a metal mauler, LA's own original mascot the automobile, work begins on an animal overpass.

A bridge spanning the 101 Freeway will keep animals safer than they are now, scurrying across the danger zone that is the speeding highway through the Santa Monica Wilderness Mountain Range, where our man-eating mountain lions (cougars, pumas, cheetahs) live when they're not prowling Hollywood's Griffith Park.

The SM Mountains are the largest wilderness park recreation area is the "largest urban national park" in the world, plus a rich archeological site, and one of the best examples of a Mediterranean climate ecosystem in the world. SoCal is blessed.

Now the lions will be safer, physically and genetically, by being able to mingle with outside big cats in the Angeles National Forest north of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Mountains in particular.
Plastic containers in LA must be requested starting today
Los Angelenos must now positively ask for polluting single-use plastic containers and cups. Food vendors are no longer able to provide them automatically. Soon these pollutants -- which are choking our seas, sea life, and beaches -- will be regulated out of public life. They'll still be available for private use. Styrofoam is banned, and something biodegradable will take its place.
