Mandy Kahn: Peace Class: anger vs. hate

The Difference Between Anger and Hate
This is the text of last week's Peace Class
What is the difference between anger and hate? These are passionate times, and we might find many emotions flowing through us. Every emotion is a part of us, calling to be felt and seen.

When we choose to feel our emotions fully, when we choose to lean into our emotions with self-witnessing, self-kindness, self-gentleness, and self-love, while wrapping the deeper self, the inner self, the childlike self with our compassion, we complete the experience of that emotion and return to a zero point.

We can, at that zero point, consciously choose our actions. If we want, we can choose actions that build a peaceful world.

We can do this because we have held ourselves with kindness and support, and we have honored and experienced our emotions, and we have returned to our own center, healed and loved and empowered.

We build with our point of focus. We build with our beliefs. We build with our thoughts, with what we focus on. That's how we build the future.

We can experience the whole range of challenging emotions—anger, sadness, disappointment, frustration—and we can do it with profound self-love and self-kindness and self-gratitude. And when we do, we complete that experience and step into our power.

Building peace is about understanding that there is nothing more powerful than the individual because the individual builds the world by way of its point of focus. What is a powerful group but many powerful individuals all sharing focus at once?

We are more powerful than any collective force around us. The world is built by way of the individual: by us. Nothing is more powerful in our system than the focal-point of an individual. There is nothing more powerful than us. We get to choose whether we focus a more peaceful world into being.

What is the full range of emotions? We can go through challenging emotions, like anger and disappointment and frustration, and we can stay in our power by experiencing these emotions lovingly, embracing self while experiencing feelings.

We can get to a zero point, then choose consciously. The other option is to let these emotions carry us like trains that we are not consciously directing into something like hate.

What is hate?

How do I begin a journey of peace, Mandy?
Hate is not an emotion; it is an action. Hate builds a warring future. It builds powerfully, whether or not our hate was chosen consciously. It builds a violent future through us.

There is a profound difference between anger and hate. Anger is an emotion indicating that there is a part of the self calling to be felt, calling to be loved, calling to be witnessed. Therefore, anger -- like all emotions -- is holy. Anger, like all emotions, is natural. We can respond to its call for self-love by supplying it with self-love. Then that anger has done its job.

Anger is the baby of the self loudly crying out. Just like a baby cries when it needs to be fed, or have its diaper changed, or to be held, anger is the inner self calling for our own self-soothing, our own self-compassion, our own self-love.

When we feel anger, we are being asked to supply that unconditional love to the self at that moment. And when we do, we heal the self. We prove to the self that our love is there.

Just as a caring parent who responds to a crying baby proves it is there to care for that baby, we can respond to the crying baby of the self with love, and we can heal and soothe that self.

We can show the self we are loved-without-end. That is the opportunity of anger.

If we do not respond to that anger with self-love, it can become a train-car that carries us towards hate. Hatred builds future violence, and future war, when it enters the collective consciousness. If we want to build a world with more violence in it, hate is the tool to use.

But if we want to build a peaceful world and a compassionate world and a loving world, then listen to emotions. Listen to the self calling out for love, and supply that love. Be the loving parent to the holy self. Supply that love and soothe that self.

Every challenging emotion is simply an invitation for self-love. We can deliver that self-love. When we do, we complete the emotion's cycle, step into our empowerment, and then we can say, "Great, I've had that emotion, and I've responded with self-love. I've completed that cycle. Now, what do I want to build with my power?"

If we want to build a peaceful world, compassion-for-all-beings will get us there. Love-for-all-beings will get us there. A peaceful mind, an empty mind, an open mind, a silent mind will get us there. Love of nature will get us there.

Hate unites us (with other haters)
Remember, hate is an action, not an emotion, and it builds something. It builds future violence. Carrying hate is a choice. Harsh judgment of others is a choice.

If we engage hate, let's be aware of what we are building. If we engage in cruel judgments of others, let's know what we're building. If we know our tools and choose consciously what we want, that's what we are working to build consciously. (Otherwise, we're building something quite unconsciously).

We are here to exercise freewill. And we are observed by way of the universe with compassion and love and non-judgment. We are safe to choose, and we are free to choose. We can build a compassionate world by carrying compassion, and we can build a peaceful world by carrying peace. We can build a compassionate world by ogling the ocean, by looking at the soil, by witnessing a stand of trees. Just gazing at a forest with love builds a loving future.

If today is a hard day, sit under a tree and let that tree offer its support. Mother Nature is love-without-end. We are so loved in all our emotions. Emotions are natural.

It is natural that there is a part of us that is calling for love, and it is natural that there are parts of our neighbors that are calling for love. If we answer this moment with compassion-for-all-beings, we build a compassionate world.

A moment of division is the most potent and possible time for peacebuilding because it allows the largest opportunity for change.

If we are interested in building a peaceful future, consider planting compassion-for-all-beings into this moment of division. Consider carrying compassion-for-all-beings within, even as many around us carry something quite different.

  • The Buddha taught peace? - Yes!
The Buddha often gave his closest disciples (nuns and monks) a reflection: We will be love in a world of hate, we will be honest in a world of lies (dishonesty), we will be gathered and still in a world of scattering and distraction. He used nicer words, but this is the gist of it.
This historic moment is fertile soil for worldbuilding, for peacebuilding, for compassion-building, for loving change.

Even in challenging times, we can hold the self in love, and we can hold our neighbors in compassion. When we do that consciously, we choose our future consciously. And we do it with our full power.

Media company MeidasTouch reported that Trump "echoes Hitler nearly verbatim" in his calls to destroy the "vermin," or liberals.

Tristan Snell, a former assistant attorney general in New York, added his take, as well.

Specifically, Snell quoted, “This vermin must be destroyed. The Jews are our sworn enemies, and at the end of this year there will not be a Jew left in Germany.” — Hitler, 1939.

Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger also pointed out the post. "Meh. He's going to jail," Kinzinger wrote. "American veterans deserve a not insane leader."

Journalist [and wit] Bill Grueskin said Trump's long-winded post is "a paragraph for readers who can't handle the subtle nuances of Mein Kampf," Hitler's book ["My Struggle"]. (MSN)

Palestinian groups ask ICC to arrest Israeli PM Netanyahu for war crimes and genocide
(Democracy Now!) Nov. 10, 2023: DN! speaks with Palestinian human rights lawyer Noura Erakat about a new effort to hold Israel accountable at the International Criminal Court over the asymmetric atrocities in Gaza, where Israel's monthlong air bombardment and ground assault have killed more than 10,000 Palestinians.

US must hold US accountable.
On Wednesday, three Palestinian rights groups filed a lawsuit with the international body, urging it to investigate Israel for the crimes of genocide and apartheid. The petition also calls for arrest warrants to be issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, President Isaac Herzog, and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. International inaction against Israeli aggression is part of "a systematic failure to hold Israel to account for decades," as well as the "absolute double standard" applied to war crimes committed against people of the Global South, says lawyer Erakat, who was part of a team of academics and activists who came together to support the ICC lawsuit. "This is not just a crisis of international legal institutions, but also a crisis of democratic — or so-called democratic — institutions in the countries in which we live." Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal
What if we cancel criminal corporations?
U.S. weapons makers to be tried by war crimes. Tribunal begins Nov. 12, 2023.

Please join us on Sunday, November 12th, 2023 at 8:00 pm (EST) for the livestreamed opening session of the Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal that is holding U.S. weapons manufacturers accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The first episode will focus on Israel's aerial bombardment against the human beings in Gaza, Palestine, a historical and monumental atrocity that could not happen at this time without U.S. aircraft, missiles, and bombs produced by three of the four defendants on trial before the Tribunal:
  1. Lockheed Martin
  2. Boeing
  3. RTX (Raytheon).
"We render you, corporations obsessed with war-profiteering, accountable, answerable!"
- Dr. Cornel West, Ph.D., Member of Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal

We fund them to fight Russia and MidEast
The Merchants of Death War Crimes Tribunal will hold accountable — through testimony of witnesses — U.S. weapons manufacturers who knowingly produce and sell products that attack and kill combatants and non-combatants equally well.

These U.S. manufacturers may have committed crimes against humanity and violated U.S. federal criminal laws. The Tribunal will hear the evidence and render a verdict. More (merchantsofdeath.org)

No "Armistice" on US's global war on V Day

Take your psych meds and commit suicide if you don't "like" it, b-tch!! - Sir, yes, sir!
I should have killed that m@therf@&#$r for calling me a "b-itch" instead of taking it out on those Hajjis and Afghani civilians trying to defend themselves against us. God, I need a drink.

Today marks Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, now called "Veterans Day" to glorify war heroes and heroines in the US. It is a federal holiday that tries to encourage new recruits to sign up to go on killing missions and to honor, or at least pretend not to forget, about former US men and women who fought for America's military-industrial complex, the joint corporate-governmental organizations that keep war going.

Veterans continue to face extremely high levels of planned suicide (brought on by psychotropic medications that bring suicidality on as a known side effect, particularly after iatrogenic addiction to opioid painkillers), unemployment, homelessness, traumatic brain injury, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), and homicidal and violent tendencies, particularly when someone secures a job in law enforcement upon returning and concealing one's traumatic brain injury and PTSD symptoms.

Racism makes war make sense (Occupy)
Since 2000, nearly 6,000 service members have experienced traumatic amputations from injuries caused by improvised explosive devices and other war-related dangers. Nearly one million active service members have been diagnosed with at least one mental health disorder since 2000; nearly half of those have been diagnosed with two or more. Alcoholism and pharmaceutical drug addiction, far from being counted as mental health disorders, are counted as "treatment" when they are causing and contributing to so much of the problem.

The Pentagon's pentagram where most wars are planned long in advance of a provocation. And if the MIC is not provoked, a pretext is developed. This is standard operating procedure.

Suicide is murder, too
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 22 veterans take their own lives each day. These are just active duty service members; no one is counting former active duty members, whose suicide numbers are much higher. How many years does one have after returning from committing war crimes and getting insufficient to no help at all from the VA, what does anyone expect? The Pentagon is happy to drug anyone who asks for help, because numb zombies can hardly speak up about what America is doing. Whistleblowers are annihilated or "neutralized" for fear that they undermine morale and reduce recruiting numbers.

Last year, more US military personnel died by their own hands than the hands of others. On any given night, nearly 63,000 veterans are homeless. Many suffer chronic debilitating mental health problems. These numbers do not look at wars of old. This is from the new wave of conflicts in the pretext we all accept as the "war on terror," a tactic, making it endless war, having set up an "enemy" we could never exhaust.

Sometimes ya have to burn a village.
Now war is permanent. No peace is at hand. No armistice is possible, because there is no one who could give up if they wanted to. So innocent noncombatants are targeted with drones, likely in the hopes that someone will come fight back. And that will be the enemy. It is like a bully going around pushing and killing other students, daring anyone to come do something about it, thus justifying the military-industrial complex's ongoing terror and war-making.

No "Armistice" for Washington's Global War

I was raped for my service.
It was exactly 95 years ago: the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the moment when major hostilities in the charnel [ground] that was World War I ended. In 1919, November 11th officially became "Armistice Day" [marking the cessation of hostilities] in the United States.

As it happened, though, major hostilities were suspended for just two brief decades before an even more devastating global war [was begun]. In 1954, nine years after World War II ended, with the previous "great" conflict having proved [to be] anything but -- as once advertised -- "the war to end all wars," and the memory of its armistice fading, the holiday was officially relabeled "Veterans Day" [War-makers Day].

Who is being charged for US govt's wars?
And so it has remained in the second half of the last century and the first 13 years of this one as those veterans piled up.

There were the ones from Korea, Vietnam [Cambodia, Laos, and secret wars elsewhere, leaving rarely a single year since the founding of the USA that it was not engaged in making war somewhere, usually in more than one place at a time], and too many American [kinetic or low-level conflict] interventions to mention.

[There were also in the] new century -- from the disastrous counterinsurgency wars in Iraq and Afghanistan [with secret bombing runs over and the establishment of US military bases in Pakistan, Waziristan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan...with all eyes on nearby Iran]. (In Washington's conflicts in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen, where the "soldiers" or "airmen" are generally drone-robots, there really are no veterans [except the Las Vegas remote controllers suffering PTSD for their war crimes].) Demolition of Buddhas approaching!
KABUL (Reuters, Dec. 5, 2010) - Ancient Buddhist relics may temporarily delay huge Afghan copper mine. Safeguarding ancient Buddhist relics at a huge Chinese-run copper mine [MCC] in Afghanistan could take three years and delay the country's biggest foreign investment project, the Afghan mining minister said on Sunday. Archaeologists recently uncovered [2,600 year old] Buddhist remains at Mes Aynak mine southwest of the capital Kabul, including a temple, reliquaries, frescoes, and gold covered statues several meters high, some more than 15 centuries old. New Earth found (disclosure approaching)
In an exopolitical sign of impending disclosure in the mainstream media,  this report is making the rounds: Astronomers found a new planet similar to Earth that would take us 42 years to reach, traveling from Earth at the speed of light. Researchers have discovered a super-Earth planet circling a star at a distance that would allow that planet to support life, according to the study, "Habitable-zone super-Earth candidate in a six-planet system around the K2.5V star HD 40307." Nagas in the News: New tentacled snake
Tentacled naga sea serpent (wikicommons)
Indiana Jones and Samuel L. Jackson may need to start their own group therapy session: Eight tentacled snakes were recently hatched at the Smithsonian's National Zoo. These babies belong to an aquatic species of snake native to Southeast Asia, formally known as Erpeton tentaculatus, according to the Mother Nature Network. Scientists say it is the only known species of snakes to have tentacles, which are used to sense vibrations from fish swimming by. The snakes are relatively small, usually growing to lengths of about 20 to 35 inches. The tentacled snake spends almost all of its life hiding in murky waters, and scientists say its venomous fangs are not a threat to humans.
Akshobhya (viewonbuddhism.org)
Beyond its unusual sensory devices, the tentacled snake has some other impressive evolutionary traits as well, including the ability to predict where a startled fish will maneuver, allowing the tentacled snake to literally guide the prey into its open mouth. A 2009 report from Science Blogs explains in detail how tentacled snakes use their sharp senses and incredible speed to trap their prey. "I haven't been able to find reports of any other predators that exhibit a similar ability to influence and predict the future behavior of their prey," Vanderbilt University professor of biological sciences Kenneth Catania said in a statement. The Day After Peace (film)

(PeaceOneDay) Against all odds one individual managed to create an annual global "Peace Day." But will he be able to inspire an actual ceasefire and silence the cynics by proving the day can save lives?
