Happy Halfway Day: passion to profit

Have others ever felt a passion -- a sense of urgency -- to do what is profitable, what is wholesome and useful toward liberation? If one, there is an accompanying feeling that one is not doing nearly enough to make reasonable progress toward the goal. How much time has passed, and how much time will pass, before we get on the ball? "Long enough, wanderers," the Buddha frequently said, "has it been that we have wandered on in this round (samsara) -- long enough to have become dispassionate toward all formations."

Lord Time clips Cupid's wings
(TOI) It’s July 2nd. You’re sipping ice water, wondering where [half] the year went, maybe even scrolling photos thinking, Didn’t we just celebrate New Year’s? Suddenly, someone says, “Hey, you know today is exactly halfway through the year?”

Wait, what? Yep. July 2nd isn’t just another random summer day stuck between fireworks and a cousin’s birthday party. It’s Halfway Day — the dead-center midpoint of the year.

Half of 2025 is behind us. The other half? Still ahead, ready to be claimed [if we seize the day, or squandered if we worry about Trump and other corrupt politicians advancing Project 2025].

Whether feeling super accomplished or lowkey behind on every goal made back in January, this little calendar milestone is a gentle nudge from the universe to pause, [meditate like you thought you would], reflect, and maybe even restart. More
Why would anyone meditate?

Time keeps on ticking, ticking...How can I gain energy to make effort in meditation?

Overcoming complacency in meditation
(Beth Upton) April 21, 2025: Here I discuss what we can do if we notice ourselves becoming complacent (lazy, fatigued, unenthusiastic) in our daily meditation practice.

(Jimmy Kimmel Live) Oct. 14, 2024: We are three weeks away from the presidential election and it was a messy weekend for Donald, he bragged about not using a teleprompter while reading from a teleprompter, he was in Aurora, Colorado, where the MAGA-faithful assembled to bask in the glow of their dear misleader, Trump said that if elected he will invoke The Alien Enemies Act of 1978, VP Kamala Harris released her medical information over the weekend and Trump has yet to do so, he has called for Kamala to pass a test on Cognitive Stamina and Agility, over the weekend he reportedly used the “R” word to describe her in front of his bigliest donors, for whatever reason Trump has doubled his support among Black American men and couldn’t wait to tell all the white people who came to his rally about it, no one mispronounces words better than the Donald, and after his rally in Coachella on Saturday JKL spoke to Trump supporters there about the issues that seems to have them so upset. #Kimmel

India v Canada, Ukraine in DC (NPR News Now)

Sheldon S., Ashley Wells, Pfc. Sandoval (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Rift between India and Canada grows over India's alleged assassination of Sikh activist | NPR News Now
(NPR) [NPR ("National Propaganda Report") is an American public broadcast service with a decidedly cosmopolitan Jewish slant, but don't mention it, that receives money from the U.S. government. It's trying to be a TV station now? It must be jealous of Democracy Now!'s daily broadcast. Guess it must be trying to curry even more favor from a government that funds it, while not worrying about the made-for-radio looks of its anchors. It's Sept. 21, 2023, and time to talk about Ukraine money-milker Zelenskyy, after Ukraine open threatened to start assassinating voices in the media that oppose it or try to report fairly on Russia.  Wonder where Israel stands on the issue? Zelenskyy is on tour shaming any government that won't provide more and more resources for its hopeful proxy-war against a massive neighboring empire it was previously a part of that the CIA has been at war with for years. Poland said NO to Zelenskyy, but Sweden broke with centuries of neutrality to get in the war-for-profit game. Even more regrettable is India taking after its Western colonizer and its new best friend the USA in assassinating enemies while they're still small and manageable, but Canada is not standing for it. There's a diplomatic "row," a fight, and each nation is acting to spite the other. If only there were a neutral international court to settle these inflammatory allegations.] #ukraine #russia #india

10 Weirdest Stories: Summer 2019 (video)

Tim Binnall (Coast to Coast, 8/30/19); Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

1. Labor Day -- the unofficial end of summer -- is behind us. Let's look back at some of the weirdest stories of the hot season, beginning with a bizarre "elf" (above) filmed frolicking in a driveway. The oddity's resemblance to the Harry Potter character "Dobby" made it a viral sensation in June.

2. Another jaw-dropping story from the summer of 2019 was an undetonated WW II bomb suddenly exploding in a German farmer's field. The blast took place at night, so nobody was hurt.

3. Strange sea creatures were caught on film. One particular oddity was spotted on Lake Michigan by a webcam may be the weirdest one of all.

4. Another intriguing mystery this summer still has many scratching their heads: a baffling sculpture of a face unearthed in North Carolina.

5. Outdoor activity peaks in the summer months, so it should come as no surprise that sightings of strange creatures occur as people are out enjoying the weather. Such an incident occurred in July when fishermen filmed a cryptid "Dog Man."

6. Meanwhile, of all the unusual catches made by anglers this season, the bizarre combo of a snake attacking a fish reeled in by a man in Texas was easily the weirdest.

7. One of the most eye-catching stories this summer was an eerie "ghost city" that appeared on a lake in China due to a meteorological phenomenon known as Fata Morgana.

8. When it comes to weird creatures that left us feeling a bit uneasy this summer, what perhaps was the most unsettling was a bizarre bug filmed in Indonesia.

9. Among the many summer discoveries made by scientists is this jaw-dropping 40,000-year-old severed wolf's head found in usually frozen Siberia.

10. A look back would be incomplete without the new "Storm Area 51" movement that started in July, capturing the imagination of the public, inspiring memes and copycats, and setting the stage for a very interesting September 20th storm date.

News of the Day: Halsey, Norway's stolen kids?

AP; SBS, SBS Dateline, 7/26/16; Halsey, "Nightmare"; Crystal Q., CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly
Female empowerment or lesbian chic, self-defeating posturing? Record companies do not support actual rebellion. They promote sexualized imagery, stripper as empowered actor, and the patriarchy's best upholders. So this catch tune it is a "nightmare" (femen.org).

Why are so many parents in Norway claiming that the state is kidnapping their children -- the way Native American children today are kidnapped daily in the USA? With a spike in cases in recent years and accusations of racial intolerance, SBS Dateline, Australia (wiki) asks whether these children are being saved or stolen. Dateline reporters scour the globe to bring world of daring stories. Its reputation is for fearless and provocative reporting. It's Australia's beloved, award-winning, and longest-running international current affairs program. 4/20: Hitler was high, Weed, Columbine (video)

VICE News; TODAY; History; Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Happy Hitler's birthday (4/20). Apparently, that's why the Columbine school shooters went off. Is it also why potheads all over the planet like to puff away right at 4:20 in the afternoon and all day April 20th? Maybe. Hitler was high most of the time, but mostly on the terribly-addictive methamphetamine strain of drugs, given to him legally by his doctor. Of course, when you're "furher," most things you do must be legal in the eyes of a go-along-to-get-along population ("Little Eichmanns"), like our own citizenry today.

Hitler was high during most of WW II says Norman Ohler
(VICE News, HBO) There are many wrong things considered "common knowledge" about Hitler. He was vegetarian (he wasn't but Goebbels painted him that way to make him seem superhuman in the Aryan/Vedic/Buddhist mythology about chakravartin world rulers he borrowed), partial to the toothbrush mustache (like many men in Germany at the time, which made him wholly commonplace then and only stands out now), a failed fine artist (he studied art and was not good enough to make a career of it, so he entered the military and liked the authoritarianism), and a Nazi despot responsible for the reprehensible, systematic oppression of minorities and the promotion of white supremacy (like many groups today, including the US government, which took in and employed many Nazis after the war). What has only recently surfaced is the assertion that Adolf Hitler was also high off his face -- on methamphetamine and more -- for the entirety of World War II. As was most of the Third Reich. That’s according to the book Blitzed by Norman Ohler, the international bestseller that’s been translated into 26 languages. VICE News

How to jack pot prices WAY up in a few steps

(VICE News) The plan is working. This is how capitalism works (Das Kapital). First, let everyone open a shop. Then the big boys will come in and buy up all the small fish that can't turn a profit. That drives out all the small fish who are willing to wait for things to get profitable. In the meantime prices get really low. But in the end, a few monopolizers will buy up or drive out everyone else. The few corporations left standing THEN cooperate to drive up prices. It's the way gas (petroleum) markets are manipulated for maximum profiteering. "Disaster capitalism" comes in when production is artificially reduced to justify increases in prices. The "magic of the marketplace" won't save the day because it's just too profitable to cheat. Companies would rather drive up prices so that all the conglomerates make obscene amounts of money -- just as with banking, managed medicine, corporate health care, and nearly everything else under the US's form of capitalism. Other countries do not allow capitalism to operate this way. (There is more than one type of capitalism? There sure are!) But what about the tax-free black market competition? It's all part of the plan:

Black Market Pot: police away the competition

Celebrating 4/20 with London's pot fanatics

(VICE) All across the world capitalist governments are rethinking their attitudes towards the criminalization of cannabis. Yet in Britain, fusty politicians terrified by a video of Jon Snow losing his mind on super-skunk weed are refusing to free the weed, uncurb the herb, or liberate the oregano dream pipe. Vice went along to Hyde Park to join London's most ardent marijuana advocates for their annual 4/20 celebrations, which in 2017 doubled as a protest rally for those who want cannabis to be legalized. Vice caught up with Big Narstie, watched the police make an array of arrests, talked to some activist-stoners, and saw an Eric Cartman bong.
