Strange Secret to Success: right thinking?

After Skool, 6/20/23; Sheldon S., Seth Auberon, Dhr. Seven (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Fake Buddha quote? No, an elaborated mistranslation of what the Buddha teaches in the opening lines of the Dhammapada: "Mind is the forerunner of all conditions." Thinking (intention) precedes acting (karma) and colors it, thereby molding the result. Skillful actions will yield fortunate results (vipaka, phala), unskillful actions (akusala karma) will bring woeful results.

The Strange Secret to Success: Earl Nightingale
The Strangest Secret
(After Skool) What is the strangest secret to success? "We become what we think about"?

Earl Nightingale V (March 12, 1921–March 25, 1989) claims "everyone" was in agreement on this point. It's so famous a saying that it has become a fake Buddha quote.
What did the Buddha actually say? "Things [life circumstances] are preceded by the mind (heart), ruled by the mind, made by the mind. If one speaks or acts [i.e., performs karma] with a corrupted mind then suffering follows — just as the wheel of the ox cart follows the ox that pulls it" (Dhp. 1). "Mind is the forerunner of all conditions; they are preceded by mind, ruled by mind, made by mind. If one speaks or acts with a calm and bright mind then happiness follows just as one's shadow that never departs" (Dhp. 2).

Earl Nightingale at the mic, bloviating.
Nightingale was an American radio speaker and author, dealing mostly with the subjects of human character development, psychology, motivation, and meaningful existence.

He was the voice, during the early 1950s, of Sky King, the hero of a radio adventure series. He was also a WGN radio program host from 1950 to 1956. He was the author of The Strangest Secret, which economist Terry Savage has termed "one of the great[est] motivational books of all time."
The goal is not to end thinking. Stay calm.
  • *"Right thought," one of the factors of Buddhism's Noble Eightfold Path (noble = aryan = "ennobling" = enlightening), means thinking thoughts of renunciation (letting go, non-clinging, non-lust rather than the usual sensual craving that overtakes one), thoughts of non-harming (ahimsa) or non-ill-will, thoughts of non-cruelty. "Right thought" is usually defined as right intention or right resolve, referring to the underlying motivation for an action or deed (karma). The resultants to be expected are called the vipaka (karmic resultant) and the phala (karmic fruit).

4/20: Hitler was high, Weed, Columbine (video)

VICE News; TODAY; History; Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Happy Hitler's birthday (4/20). Apparently, that's why the Columbine school shooters went off. Is it also why potheads all over the planet like to puff away right at 4:20 in the afternoon and all day April 20th? Maybe. Hitler was high most of the time, but mostly on the terribly-addictive methamphetamine strain of drugs, given to him legally by his doctor. Of course, when you're "furher," most things you do must be legal in the eyes of a go-along-to-get-along population ("Little Eichmanns"), like our own citizenry today.

Hitler was high during most of WW II says Norman Ohler
(VICE News, HBO) There are many wrong things considered "common knowledge" about Hitler. He was vegetarian (he wasn't but Goebbels painted him that way to make him seem superhuman in the Aryan/Vedic/Buddhist mythology about chakravartin world rulers he borrowed), partial to the toothbrush mustache (like many men in Germany at the time, which made him wholly commonplace then and only stands out now), a failed fine artist (he studied art and was not good enough to make a career of it, so he entered the military and liked the authoritarianism), and a Nazi despot responsible for the reprehensible, systematic oppression of minorities and the promotion of white supremacy (like many groups today, including the US government, which took in and employed many Nazis after the war). What has only recently surfaced is the assertion that Adolf Hitler was also high off his face -- on methamphetamine and more -- for the entirety of World War II. As was most of the Third Reich. That’s according to the book Blitzed by Norman Ohler, the international bestseller that’s been translated into 26 languages. VICE News

How to jack pot prices WAY up in a few steps

(VICE News) The plan is working. This is how capitalism works (Das Kapital). First, let everyone open a shop. Then the big boys will come in and buy up all the small fish that can't turn a profit. That drives out all the small fish who are willing to wait for things to get profitable. In the meantime prices get really low. But in the end, a few monopolizers will buy up or drive out everyone else. The few corporations left standing THEN cooperate to drive up prices. It's the way gas (petroleum) markets are manipulated for maximum profiteering. "Disaster capitalism" comes in when production is artificially reduced to justify increases in prices. The "magic of the marketplace" won't save the day because it's just too profitable to cheat. Companies would rather drive up prices so that all the conglomerates make obscene amounts of money -- just as with banking, managed medicine, corporate health care, and nearly everything else under the US's form of capitalism. Other countries do not allow capitalism to operate this way. (There is more than one type of capitalism? There sure are!) But what about the tax-free black market competition? It's all part of the plan:

Black Market Pot: police away the competition

Celebrating 4/20 with London's pot fanatics

(VICE) All across the world capitalist governments are rethinking their attitudes towards the criminalization of cannabis. Yet in Britain, fusty politicians terrified by a video of Jon Snow losing his mind on super-skunk weed are refusing to free the weed, uncurb the herb, or liberate the oregano dream pipe. Vice went along to Hyde Park to join London's most ardent marijuana advocates for their annual 4/20 celebrations, which in 2017 doubled as a protest rally for those who want cannabis to be legalized. Vice caught up with Big Narstie, watched the police make an array of arrests, talked to some activist-stoners, and saw an Eric Cartman bong.
Columbine 20 years later: Survivors open up about moving on

On the 20th anniversary of the 1999 school shooting and massacre by two white teens at Columbine High School, TODAY’s Hoda Kotb sits down with the school’s principal, students who were there, and families of victims to ask if time has given them peace.

Gotta get some Bitcoin! Here's how

Pat Macpherson, Seth Auberon, Pfc. Sandoval, CC Liu, Wisdom Quarterly
Bitcoin is not physical, like the trick "bit" shown here. It's only digital and a bubble.
If Bitcoin is man in black, woman in white is the new investor trying to get rich quick.
    .
Cash me outside, bitch, and pay me in Bit!
Get rich schemes are getting harder to come by since Internet search engines allow us to research more sides of the story than just the one that makes scammers money.

But have you seen what Bitcoin (BTC), the hot digital cryptocurrency, has been doing lately? It's volatile and has no future in its present form. But along the way from here to there, one can ride the wave of volatility and cash out ahead of the game. Set a reasonable automatic sell point.

I can pay you in bit. Are you on tour soon?
It's a risky game. Be prepared to lose it all. Unlike most things, Bitcoin is not a good thing to hold for the long term. Why? Banks and governments are not going to allow themselves to be undermined by an independent alternative currency. They will subvert it, much as they are currently doing by inflating this bubble.

If Bitcoin is so valuable, why are current owners trying to seduce so many new investors into the market? That's how you make money from a bubble. It's like having a poker game among friends. How are you going to get rich? Invite a bunch of nonfriends to join the "friendly" game and milk them for all their money. In this example, you are the nonfriend about to be milked yet you think you're joining a friendly game to get rich off them.

I so wanna get rich quick, I lose it all.
Ever wonder why it is suddenly so volatile? It's because it's about to be listed in normal stock markets so investors can buy futures. Bitcoin is constantly being remade, reformatted, robbed from electronic vaults (which should be impossible but apparently isn't that hard), and precariously depends on the objective Internet, subjective net access, the bitcoin network, and the WWW. One solar flare or pulse bomb, and it all goes bye bye. An investor will still have it in cyberspace but will have no way to cash it in. Ask Danielle Bregoli.

More suckers needed to join our game
It was once possible to buy one Bitcoin for 8 cents. That was a few years ago. One guy bought $600.00's worth. He forgot about them in his hard drive then threw the hard drive away -- and with it, $122,000,000.00 at current prices, depending at what time of day one sells, of course, because the price is changing hourly by thousands of dollars per coin.

How does one get rich in an investment market? "Buy low, sell high." (The trick is there's no way to know ahead of time what "low" means and when the "high" is hit; that's all guesswork). When are people going to be buying? Right now, which is high. When will they be selling? When it's low, after the bubble bursts.

How likely is anyone entering the market right now to get rich with Bitcoin? Not likely at all, zero percent. It violates the fundamental rule.

But then why do ads and agents keep promoting Bitcoin? That's so you can salivate, get in higher praying it'll go higher, then you'll be cleaned out when you try to divest after the plunge. They come in and clean up, you go lick your wounds and wish you hadn't mortgaged the house.

Let dana be your path to gold.
Buy gold or silver, as their value never goes to zero. Bitcoin will be supplanted by another cryptocurrency banks and governments control and regulate and treat just like the fiat currency we live under now. What's that other truism about markets? "A fool and his money are soon parted."

See, this is how they get you: by changing the subject right away. Q: "Should I buy bitcoin?" A: "Digital currencies are the future." No one's arguing whether or not digital and cryptocurrencies are sound. The question is whether the bitcoin brand is sound. There will be, there already are, alternative currencies. Like Napster, bitcoin will not be allowed to succeed or come out on top. Bitcoin is not a sacrificial lamb so much as it is a Judas goat that leads others to slaughter.

Stop making sense! I want to buy BTC anyway
Gold, being real, is the opposite of bitcoin. There is no such tangible thing as a Bitcoin.
