Paul vs. Tyson is now available to watch globally on Netflix (if their servers can handle it this time because most subscribers were cheated out of seeing it live due to massive overload and failed response by Netflix to fix the problem of crashing servers. #ESPN

FINAL RESULT: Tyson loses to Paul by unanimous decision, no K.O.
Netflix, where are your tech personnel? Red alert! Transmission is down (giphy.com).
What's wrong with this TV, network, this paid Netflix service? Overload (mavink.com)

.
Is spectator racism a 'demon' at performances?
First of all, let's get one thing straight. "The Buddha" didn't fight anyone. The Bodhisattva did. Who's the Bodhisattva? He was the Buddha before he became the Buddha (e.g., Siddhartha before supreme enlightenment -- the same stream, a different time). Before he has become the "Awakened One," he is referred to as the Bodhisatta or the "Being bent-on-supreme-enlightenment"). He for aeons before his great awakening (maha-bodhi) wandered through endless rebirths (samsara) not seeing the ultimate truth of Dependent Origination like the rest of us are still doing.
The undercard has an all-female fight to proceed the big match, pulling women in to watch.
.
Fight the real power [a corrupt FBI agency*].
At the time, as the Bodhisatta striving for supreme enlightenment (samma-sam-bodhi), not ordinary enlightenment (bodhi), he was making foolish mistakes that would come back to haunt him, as ours do to us.

In one rebirth in particular, the Bodhisatta was a strong prizefighter, who would take to the ring and wrestle. He was a champion. In one match, he slammed an opponent down to the ground, injuring the fighter's back so severely that later, as the Buddha, he frequently suffered from excruciating back pain as a karmic consequence.

Bloody girl fight

A chicken fight? - We're cocks, sir.
The pain was so bad that would make him unable to continue teaching. He would often have Ven. Sariputra, one of his chief disciples "foremost in wisdom," take over, while the Buddha laid down and rested. The pain got so bad as he got older that he had to resort to entering states of samadhi (jhana, "meditative absorption") to make it tolerable or put the physical pain into abeyance.
  • The explanation for the ultimate source of the Buddha's back pain is given in the Jataka Tales ("Rebirth Stories") as the playing out of karma (the vipaka and phala) from when he was a boxer, wrestler, fighter in the ring.
  • Do you think maybe the big election has something to do with the big fight? We are all dying to see a Black person beat the stuffing out of a cocky (he does call himself El Gallo, which is Spanish for "The Cock" after all) white person. This makes Big Mike the "Great Black Hope." Do it for the loser Kamala, Mike!
  • I wouldn't risk it. Turn away. (Edgar Cayce)
    WARNING
: It could be bad karma to watch and/or applaud such savagery (as Edgar Cayce warns in the readings about spectating Coliseum matches and thereby sharing in the individualized collective karma of encouraging violence), and it absolutely is so if gambling. Bettors, be warned, financial logic dictates that Jake Paul is going to win, not because he's a better fighter or stronger or crazier or anything like that. He is likely to win because that makes much more money for them in the grudge match that comes next. How much are they making this time? Paul is being paid twice as much as Tyson ($40 million), and all the media hype tells you that Tyson is going to destroy him. Go with your emotions, and go to the poorhouse like everyone else.
  • Boxing: How much Jake Paul and Mike Tyson will be paid for 'performing' on this Netflix fight (It's called the Entertainment Industry, after all, not the Entertainment Charity)
  • Mike Tyson at 58 continues to change the game (not the serious sport of sparring, but the game of milking money from spectators who want to see blood on the mat)
  • Mike Tyson's Ferrari driving 1000BHP into the ring with Jake Paul [on his millennial hipster chrome tricycle]
Don't make this about race, you Ignorant!
This is strange because he did not attack his opponent violently and personally, but rather by mutual consent and in a professional capacity. They were both taking a chance, and no one thought the Bodhisattva was doing anything wrong for "just doing his job" of professionally fighting.

Heavy unskillful karma (demerit) was nevertheless generated, which came to fruition many times in his final rebirth as the Buddha. (Full enlightenment makes an end of all further rebirth and suffering).

The Fix Is In: The Showbiz Manipulations of the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL and NASCAR
The Fix Is In (Brian Tuohey)
Investigative author Brian Tuohy, with 4.3 out of 5 stars after172 ratings, looks behind the facade of professional sports in America: It's all about fair play and the goal of winning championships.

At least that's the spin. But could it be a massive showbiz operation filled with greedy owners, crooked referees, and coddled players, all with the unstated goal of grabbing as much money as possible?

Author, sports buff Brian Tuohy
Tuohy provides a fully sourced saga of the corruption that has infected the storied histories of the NBA, MLB, NFL, NHL, and NASCAR.

With reality obscured by a complacent and often complicit sports media, The Fix Is In shines a light on a hidden history of clandestine arrangements between TV networks [is Netflix a network now?] and sports leagues, all against a background of heavy drinking, chemical drugging, reckless gambling, and organized crime. *Sports Gambling, Fixing, FBI
Do not bet on this sport. Anyone who gambles with the ambition to win will be manipulated out of money. At least bet on the big picture, not the narrative being pitched. If we had to guess, Jake Paul is going to win. Why? Nothing to do with his fighting or ability, everything to do with showbiz, FBI gambits, and the way to spin a narrative for maximum profit. (Of course, it cannot even be guaranteed that Paul will take it because the real is act is waiting to see how the bets stack up: Which outcome produces the greatest number of losses for the greatest number of bettors? That's what sports bookies, statisticians, and fixers are all about calculating). Think about it. Who wants to see a big, hated monster with a lisp win and win again? No. Watch Rocky and take a Hollywood script writing class. To build drama for the next fight, Match 3, there has to be something big on the line like Tyson's pride, the belt, the record. That's what he gets paid millions for selling out. How do they calculate who should win? That's easy. How do they calculate who will win? That's trick. When the masses zig, the number crunchers and fixers have to zag. It's like setting the odds-on slot machines.

Eating KORN for suicide prevention

Korn at BMO after supporting SOAD at SSW
Now that Suicide Prevention Month is wrapped up, it's time to listen to some Korn again. They're in concert this weekend in SoCal. Due to leaks of credit card and personal financial information, one woman had her virtual tickets transferred to someone else. TicketMaster is to blame. How doe

September is National Suicide Prevention Month (samhsa.gov) and if you've found a way to hang on, let's see if we could feel, think, and reason our way through this. Unless you're recovering from some attempt, the thoughts are the problem. What reasoning has let to contemplating a permanent solution to a temporary problem? It's all in the thinking. Thinking is a trap, basing decision on unquestioned assumptions. Become aware of the assumption, and all the thinking built on them magically falls away..

September is a month to [listen Guns 'n' Roses' "September Rain," very sad and depressing] and to remember the lives lost to suicide. Millions of people have struggled...
NAMI (nami.org) don't like it. Get involved because awareness is the way to prevention, whereas lack of mindfulness and clear comprehension (sati-sampajanna) is the way to automatic pilot. A dog chases a tail. Does it ever figure out that's its tail? One bite would do it, but it's too fast.

Is there ever a time to raise awareness of this urgent crisis? It's like asking, "When is the best time to plant a tree?" We use this month to shift public perception and spread hope.

Prevention beats trying to cure the spiraling when someone falls into a tailspin. That dog just won't stop. One way is to call (988) LIFE-LINE. Every year, the 988 Lifeline and other mental health organizations and individuals across the U.S. raise awareness of suicide prevention during September.

AFSP.org hails National Suicide Prevention Month and Week. This is a moment in time when we rally the public to create awareness of this leading cause of death and inspire more self-compassion.

If only there were a toolkit for suicide prevention (nimh.nih.gov). There is a Digital Toolkit for Suicide Prevention Month. Join the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to raise awareness by sharing resources that can help one recognize the warning signs of suicide and do something about it.

'Becuz' (Because of You) Sonic Youth

Wish I could change the way that you feel
Standing with him you feel more real

Looking so sweet with all your might
Trusting in him to fully ignite

Holding his hand like a brand new kite
Blue eyes sparkle, open, alright

Wish I could see the girl who'd fight
Playing and laughing and trying to show it

Running and falling and dying to know it
Staring you down with her gaze hold it

Wish I could free you
but I can't don't blow it

Angel, gonna show it
Lord
The Devil, go on, hold it
Angel, gonna show it
Lord
Blow it

Because of you, because of you, because of you, because of you
Because of you, because of you, because of you, because of you
Because of you, because of you, because of you, because of you
Because of you, because of you, because of you, because of you

Wish I could free you, but I can't, don't blow it

Why cheat? Why not just end it?

Dennis Manning (Quora.com); Ashley Wells, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Why do people cheat instead of just ending the relationship?
It’s because there is that little devil sitting on one shoulder saying, “I can get sex from two people as opposed to one. And all I got to do is keep quiet [lie by omission].”

The angel on the other shoulder is saying, “This isn’t right.”

So the person and the devil both turn to the angel and say, “Shut up. Sex with two people.”

The angel retorts, “What happens if your significant other finds out?”

Devil replies, “We’ll just make an excuse that my significant other has not met my needs. He or she will either step up his or her game and I get more sex or release me to my affair partner for more sex. Win/win for us.”

Angel says, “But what if….”

Person and devil throw angel to the ground and stomp him.

“I told you to shut the hell up! Sex with TWO people!!!” Source

Joking? What is "right speech"? (video)

Geoff DeGraff (a.k.a. Ajahn Thanissaro) from Noble Strategy edited by Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson, Wisdom Quarterly
(Good Vibes Binaural Beats) Remove Mental Blockages ☯ Subconscious Negativity ☯ Dissolve Negative Patterns

What are the rules of joking in Islam? | Blog As my Buddhist teacher once said, "If you can't control your mouth, there's no way you can hope to control your mind." This is why right speech is so important in daily practice.

Right speech can be explained in four ways as avoiding harmful speech:
  • lies (words spoken with the intent of misrepresenting the truth);
  • divisive speech (spoken with the intent of creating rifts between people);
  • harsh speech (spoken with the intent of hurting another person's feelings);
  • idle chit chat (spoken with no purposeful intent).
We can focus on intention: This is where the practice of right speech intersects with the training of the mind/heart. Before we speak, we focus on why we want to speak. This helps get us in touch with the real machinations taking place in the committee of voices running our minds.

If we see any unskillful motives lurking behind that committee's decisions, we can veto them. As a result we become more aware of ourselves, more honest with ourselves, more firm with ourselves.

We also save ourselves from saying things we'll later regret. In this way we strengthen qualities of mind helpful in meditation, at the same time avoiding any potentially painful memories and misgivings that might get in the way of being attentive to the present moment when the time comes to meditate.

In positive terms right speech means speaking in ways that are trustworthy, harmonious, comforting, and worth taking to heart.

When we make a practice of these positive forms of right speech, our words become a gift to others. In response, others will start listening more to what we say and will be more likely to respond in kind. This gives us a sense of the power of our actions/karma: The way we act in the present moment does shape the world of your experience. We are not a victim of past events.
I'm only joking!
Cards Against Humanity + Cyanide & Happiness = Joking Hazard
Cards Against Humanity: Cyanide + Happiness Joking Hazard (geekandsundry.com)
.
For many of us the most difficult part of practicing right speech is in how we express our sense of humor.

Particularly here in the USA, we're used to getting laughs by using hyperbole, exaggeration, sarcasm, group stereotypes, and pure silliness -- all classic examples of wrong speech.

If people get used to these sorts of careless ways -- as we go about trying to be funny -- they stop listening carefully to what we say. We cheapen our own discourse. There's enough irony in the world such that it needs no additional exaggeration or sarcasm.

The best humorists are the ones who bring us to look directly at the way things actually are. Things are funny because they're true.

Expressing our humor in ways that are truthful, useful, and wise may require thought and effort, but when we master this sort of wit we find that the effort is well spent. We've sharpened our minds and have improved our verbal environment.

In this way even our jokes become part of our Buddhist practice -- an opportunity to develop positive qualities of heart/mind to have something to offer of intelligent value to everyone around us.

As we pay closer attention to what we say -- and why we say it -- we will improve ourselves with every word spoken or better left unspoken. When we do we'll discover that opening our mouths can be a great blessing. More

Karma: 600 witches curse Stanford rapist

Dominique Sisley (dazeddigital.com, June 10, 2016); Ashley Wells (ed.), Wisdom Quarterly

God will protect me, ha ha.
Hundreds of witches from around the world joined forces to hex [curse] Stanford University rapist Brock Allen Turner on Tuesday night, in a bid to make up for the swimmer’s paltry six-month jail sentence [now reduced to three months when the racist judge could have given him 14 years in state prison].

How I dress? Please don't rape me, guys.
Turner, who was convicted of raping [digitally penetrating] an unconscious woman behind a dumpster, is currently scheduled to serve just three months of his six month prison sentence, along with a three year probation period.

Unsuprisingly, his punishment has been widely criticized for its [white privilege, implicit bias-inspired] leniency: with many now actively campaigning to unseat the judge [Aaron Persky of Santa Clara County] who made the ruling.

How shall we recall the racist judge?
One of these campaigners is Melanie Hexen. The hereditary witch -- who also works as a bellydancer and midwife [but is not necessarily a lesbian] -- decided to take matters into her own hands this week, when she organized a mass hexing of the Stanford swimmer via a Facebook event page (now deleted).

Despite only being sent to 12 of her coven sisters, the ritual quickly went viral after picking up 600 confirmed attendees.
“Witches doing spells in times when they’re otherwise powerless goes back thousands of years” – Melanie Hexen
“I think it really struck a chord with a lot of women as a way to feel like they had some power in this situation,” she told U.S. News.

“That there was something [karma] they could do, some way they could come together and focus their rage and their need for justice that wasn’t being met. Witches doing spells in times when they’re otherwise powerless goes back thousands of years.” More

Harming? Karma for witches
Editors, Wisdom Quarterly (COMMENTARY)
Karma (verb): What we DO to ourselves by doing it to others, our actions, intentions (WQ).

What we do = our karma = our later results.
Using spells when feeling socially powerless is a common practice ... in spite of the fact that real witches know that doing harm with curses and hexes comes back on the practitioner 10 or even 100 times worse. This is due to the law of karma: Do harm, get harm; do benefit, get benefit. But a familiar sense of powerlessness quickly turns to mad power trip when one suddenly feels empowered by magic, the potential for revenge, or when we get a leg up on someone who's down. Something has to be done to the judge and rapists, but it does not have to harm anyone, least of all those who press for change and justice and an end to our rape culture. Cooler heads/hearts prevail, and a better world is made.

Repaying hatred with hatred, the Buddha taught, only results in more hatred (Dhp. 5). Wisdom, knowing that impersonal karma, will work itself out to rapists' detriment, and compassion, knowing that what WE do comes back to us so that the wisest and most loving thing to do for ourselves is be wise and loving. Do we love ourselves? Probably not, so we harm others and inadvertently harm ourselves even more than the initial harm of being angry rather than seeking an antidote to anger and other poisons of the heart. It's understandable that angry people would attack a pariah like Turner. But would they attack if their karma came back on them right away? Probably not.

Misunderstanding the law of karma (lol)
The problem with karma is that it does not ripen fast enough to teach us the connection between what we do and what happens to us. Moreover, even if a hex or a curse does not work, it is bad karma. It begins as unskillful, unwholesome mental karma. Then we speak it and it becomes bad verbal karma, like encouraging others to do harm. Then if we enact it, it becomes bad physical karma. And Turner may be there none the worse for wear -- or he dies. Either way, we have accrued demerit, fed our anger, failed to find an antidote for the poison in our heart/mind, promoted anger, hatred, rage in an angry world...

Racism Hurts Everyone: Costs to White People

Editors, Wisdom Quarterly; United Church of Christ Massachusetts Conference (maucc.org)
We're just kids. Are you raising us racist without even realizing what you're doing?
"Stop racism!" (femen.org/en)
Part of being committed to eliminating racism is continuing to grow in our understanding of the horrible effects of racism on people of color today. While there is no comparison with the effects on people of color, white people are also dehumanized and burdened by racism.

So it is valuable to also grow in our understanding of this part of the system of racism that affects us all. For instance, white people often:

Oh, to be the black sheep of the group! Or white in a group of colored sheep!!

I can overcome inequality and guilt?
• Experience a sense of being cut off from people of color -- of not belonging with, or being welcomed by, people of color (who, after all, are a majority of the world’s population).
• Hold stereotypes and prejudices or have negative thoughts about people of color or unintentionally give off an air of entitlement or superiority.
• Are deeply pained by learning about historical/contemporary suffering and racist inequities experienced by people of color.
• Feel powerless to create a just society in the face of racism.
• Feel guilty about the history of racism and current racist institutions.
• Fear making mistakes and being seen as racist or prejudiced.
Beloved Buddhist Saint Sivali
• Have our integrity eroded and our sense of goodness and self-worth undermined by our failures to stand up against racism we observe.
• Experience unjustified fears of people of color.
• Are separated from people of color who are working-class and poor, who are our natural allies, with whom we could join forces to bring about a more equitable distribution of wealth that would benefit us all.
• Experience unfounded fears of what people of color may do to white people, when and if they ever get the chance, exactly what whites did to people of color -- exacting revenge or retribution for past and ongoing racism.
• Miss out on the benefits of deep human relationships with people of other “races” and cultures, and all that can be learned and enjoyed in such relationships.
• Are unconscious of "white privilege" or subtle biases.
• Are separated from other white people by feelings about race... What would you add to the list?

A better kind of arms race
The position of supremacy is inherently dehumanizing to individuals in the dominant group in addition to the terrible and more obvious costs to any subordinated group.

Our full humanity can only be realized in full community with other human beings -- in situations of reciprocity, equity, fairness, and mutuality... More

Super PTSD (TRS): Victims living with Abusers

Maya, Wisdom Quarterly; Henry (pasadenaweekly.com) to Patti Carmalt-Vener, Southern California Society for Intensive Short Term Psychotherapy (patticarmalt-vener.com)
The conscious mind may not remember, but the body does -- for years and years -- affecting our relationships and everyone around us (healthynews.com)

TRS, unlike PTSD, occurs when
victims are under the control of their abuser.

Shsssh, baby girl, it's our secret.
On her first visit to a psychiatrist, my wife was diagnosed as suffering from trauma reenactment syndrome [TRS]. I tried to look this up in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders IV but didn't find anything. Can you explain it?

Gina's father died in Viet Nam, and she has no recollection of him. She was raised from age 3 by her mother and a very sadistic stepfather. To save her mother from repeated beatings, Gina submitted to sexual molestations. He never physically hit her, and as a child she rationalized it wasn't so bad as long as he didn't hurt her mother anymore. She was forced to come straight home after school, stay home on weekends, and was isolated form friends and family. Neither Gina nor her mother told anyone what was happening.

They both went to live with Gina's aunt when the stepfather was put in a hospital.

Between ages 14 and 18, Gina lived with her aunt and her mother and then left for college. Between ages 20 and 24, she joined a religious cult and was subjected to physical and sexual abuse.

The only time she was ever physically violent was when she attacked a woman right before she left the cult. That's a hated memory, as she never wants to be like her stepfather.

Gina and I met at Alcoholics Anonymous when she was 29. Both of us have been sober and together ever since. Gina is wonderful, but she still suffers. Her job requires her to socialize, and that's very difficult for her. She also has nightmares about her childhood and is fearful I'm going to leave her (which I'm not). Due to her intense low moods [although any mood disturbance lasting more than two weeks would have triggered her pharmaceutical-medical model doctor], the psychiatrist prescribed medication.

I'm very concerned about her. I'm planning on seeing her psychiatrist with her, but your knowledge is welcomed.

DEAR HENRY: Trauma reenactment syndrome is a complex form of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), diagnosed in people who have experienced prolonged and repeated trauma. PTSD mainly deals with a single traumatic event [like rape]... PTSD does not include trauma such as the intense abuse Gina endured... TRS occurs when the victim is in some type of captivity and under the abuser's control. This can include prisons, religious cults, families where a child is abused and unable to fend for him/herself, and in marriages from which she is unable to leave [for example, because of children]... Protesting Torture at Ringling Brothers' Circus

Wisdom Quarterly

() People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal's 2009 investigation of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus found that workers were beating, electro-shocking, whipping, tying, and hooking elephants and striking tigers. Shocking footage shows the torment behind animal circuses that exploit animals. (The same or worse holds true for rodeos). What can compassionate people do? It's easy. Avoid circuses. There is no need to demonstrate on the streets as activists are doing today July 20, 2011 in downtown Los Angeles as Ringling Brothers attempts to begin a stint of animal-exploitation shows. There is no need to write letters or boycott a company. Simply stay home if a visit to a circus was planned.
LA Protesters Stand Up to Circus

()

Last year nearly 300 anti-cruelty advocates and activists came together at the Staples Center to protest the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus.

This circus has frequently come under attack from activists and authorities alike for its pattern of abuse and cruelty towards captive animals forced to perform demeaning entertainments, suffer in cages, lacking sufficient exercise, nutrition, and care. The elephants are showing signs of arthritis as a result.

Ringling Bros. has been cited and fined numerous times for animal cruelty. In a moment of bitter irony the LA police attempted to arrest an LCA activist for displaying a "bullhook," a device frequently used to torment elephants by Ringling Bros.

"We don't want to shut down the circus," one activist was heard to say. "We just want them to eliminate the use of animals." Note: Cirque du Soleil, Bindlestiff Family Circus, and The Little Russian Circus are all animal-free.

Annual Protests Until Reform
In spite of being cited and fined by the USDA for animal cruelty, Ringling Bros continues to profit from its abuses. Members of groups participating in the protest included ISSAC, OCPA, IDA, LCA, PETA Los Angeles, Animal Defenders International, and ASPCA among many others. For much of the time, the protesters outnumbered the circus-goers waiting in line at the venue.
