Two years ago, I made a wish here to promote the beauty of Tibet and its ancient Vajrayana Buddhist [Hindu and Bon] religious culture, and now I have achieved that.

This trek up the south slope of Mt. Kailash was incredibly thrilling and dangerous. In August, heavy snow fell from the sky, and I nearly slid off the steep and slippery rocks into a valley more than 50 meters (150 feet) deep. I believe my efforts were worthwhile. As a Tibetan guide, I have successfully led tourists from all over the world in over 60 Kora treks around Mt. Kailash. This is my second successful climb to the 13 stupas on the south slope. The 13 stupas, also known as the "Inner Kora of Mt. Kailash," are the holiest sites for Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims.

(Red Bull) Nov. 7, 2025: MOUNT EVEREST. Ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel becomes the first person to climb Mt. Everest and ski back to Everest Base Camp without supplementary oxygen. After nearly 16 hours climbing in the high altitude “Death Zone” (above 26250 feet or 8,000 meters, where oxygen levels are dangerously low), Bargiel clipped into his skis on the summit of allegedly the tallest mountain on earth [which may in fact be Mt. Sumeru or K2] and started his descent via the South Col Route. He reached Camp II that night and rested. The summit ridge and Hillary Step had taken longer than planned, meaning darkness made it dangerous and difficult to navigate further that day. The next morning, he skied through the treacherous Khumbu Icefall guided by a drone flown by his brother, Bartek, before safely arriving at Everest Base Camp to become the first person to ascend and descend Mt. Everest on skis with no supplementary oxygen.

(TOI) A viral video shows a yogi walking barefoot in the freezing, snow-covered Himalayan mountains — and what he says next leaves viewers stunned.

A video shows a yogi walking barefoot in the Himalayas. The yogi is wearing only a thin [linen] cloth. A person recording the video greets him. The yogi says he is coming from Hind Parvat.

He calmly answers questions about the cold and his lack of warm clothing. The video is gaining attention online. Viewers are impressed by his spiritual detachment [rather than the physical obsession we normally exhibit].

The video leaves viewers stunned as it shows a yogi walking barefoot in deep snow, reportedly in the Himalayas. It has gone viral on social media, leaving viewers stunned. What has caught everyone’s attention isn’t any stunt, but the yogi’s calm, peaceful walk through harsh, freezing conditions, wearing nothing but a thin white cloth.

In the video, the yogi, who appears to be in his early 30s, can be seen walking barefoot through thick snow. The person recording the video greets him respectfully, saying, “Jai Kedarnath Maharaj ji” (“Hail Kedarnath, Maharaj-ji” or “Hello, Kedarnath, great holy lord”), then warns him gently, “Aaraam se, aaraam se… kahan se aa rahe ho? (“Careful, careful…where are you coming from?”)

Without hesitation, the yogi replies, “Hind Parvat se aa raha hoon.” Surprised, the man asks again, “Hind Parvat se?” and the yogi calmly repeats, “Haan, Hind Parvat se.” As the two continue talking, the man points toward the snow-covered slopes and asks, “Upar jaa sakte hain? Saari baraf hi dikh rahi hai upar toh” (“Can we go up there? It’s all snow-covered”).

The yogi responds with a smile, “Haan, baraf hi baraf hai” (“Yes, it’s all snow”). The most surprising moment comes when the man, clearly shocked, asks, “Aap aise baraf par nange pair ho?” (“You’re walking barefoot on this snow?”)

The yogi calmly replies, “Nange pair main thodi hoon, yeh toh shareer hai. Yeh shareer nange pair hai, main nahi hoon” (“I am not barefoot – this body is. The body is barefoot, not me”).

The man then says, “Na aapki jacket hai…” (“You’re not even wearing a jacket...”), and the yogi replies, “Kuchh nahi pehna hai” (“I haven’t worn anything special”). Wearing only a thin dhoti, the yogi’s quiet strength and composed presence in the freezing Himalayan cold has drawn admiration and curiosity.

Many online viewers have described it as a powerful example of spiritual detachment and mind-over-body strength, the kind rarely seen in today’s fast-paced world.

While the video continues to gain attention across multiple social media platforms, it was originally shared by the yogi himself, who goes by the username @margdarshakji on Instagram.

It's odd how similar Los Angeles, the capital of the world, and Kathmandu, the capital of Buddhist Nepal, are. Both are buttressed against a great range snowy.

Behind Los Angeles to the north is Angeles National Forest, and LA County seems to continue behind this great forest, headwaters, and occasionally snowy peaks. Just like the view of the Himalayan range north of Kathmandu, it's not possible to tell which one is Mt. Everest.

That's odd since, allegedly, it's the tallest mountain in the world. It's actually probably about the fourth or fifth tallest, behind Mt. Sumeru (which may have sunk and become the current tallest) Mt. Mauna Kea, K2 above ancient Gandhara (the Buddha's country Afghanistan-Pakistan), and one that allegedly bulges at the equator to be the tallest when measured from the center of the planet.

List of mountain peaks by prominence. The iconic Hollywood sign rests on the scrub brush slopes of Mt. Lee in Hollywood along Beechwood Canyon, the street the first Theravada Buddhist temple in Los Angeles was set up by the Sri Lankan community (farther south right next to Hollywood Blvd.)

The name of the mountain (Mt. Lee) separating Hollywood from The Valley is not "Mt. H Sign," and Mt. Everest isn't the name of the peak in Nepal. Its actual name is Sagarmatha ("Goddess of the Sky") in Nepal and Qomolangma ("Holy Mother") in Tibet.

Once upon a time in Nepal a boy sought enlightenment. He sat under a tree in the woods. But soon he attracted all the wrong kind of attention. It wasn't just the tree spirits and unseen beings who haunt the forest. It was devoted looky-loos and devoted observers. He got up and went somewhere else, acting like a modern-day Siddhartha.

[But Prince Sid Gautama was actually in Gandhara, what the ancient Greeks called Scythia, in the territory or mahajanapada of the Sakas (Indo-Scythians) called Kapilavastu. But never mind about that detail; historians have relocated him to tiny Nepal on the border of India where it's easier to safeguard his story and monuments, leaving the massive ones in and around his hometown in Afghanistan to languish for centuries with no one paying much attention until recently: Mes Aynak, Bamiyan, Ajina Tepe...]

The boy's name was Ram Bahadur Bomjon (nicknamed "Buddha Boy" for some similarities to the story of Siddhartha), who eventually became an esoteric Vajrayana lama and spiraled into disrepute. Too much fame too soon does that to a meditator.

What would it have taken to ascend the mountain of wisdom and reach the pinnacle of knowing-and-seeing? Restraints on practice, boundaries, a solid disciplinary code (vinaya). "All we ever wanted was everything. All we ever got was cold," sings Bauhaus. Now could an American reach the Holy Land and get to the base of what is reputedly the tallest mountain in the world?

Throughout the year, Yosemite National Park has several special events such as Junior Ranger Day, Earth Day (both in April), Apple Picking Day (mid August), and Yosemite Facelift (late September), where volunteers can just show up, no application needed.

These events are listed on this website (Drop-in Volunteering and Special Events, Yosemite National Park, U.S. National Park Service, nps.gov) when the dates are known for each year.

Before long, the snow comes and closes roads.

For all special events and drop-in days, the park asks participants to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, appropriate gear for the weather, and to bring sun protection, water, and snacks.

The park provides tools and protective equipment. All participants must sign a volunteer agreement [42 kb DOCX]. To fill out the form in advance, it will be posted with each special event or drop-in project as they are planned.
