END is near: Christianity as doomsday cult

MythVision Podcast, 10/1/22; Sheldon S., Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

The Jesus Cult: 2,000 Years of the Last Days
(MythVision Podcast) Christian apologists [explainers] work hard to defend the resurrection [rebirth] of Jesus, despite the woefully poor descriptions of the supposed event in the New Testament [part of the Bible].

Just read they Bible and OBEY!
👉 Apologists could probably also rise to the challenge of proving that the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella really did transform a pumpkin into a carriage.

It's no surprise that the apologist literature defending the resurrection is enormous, but there has been considerable pushback from secular writers -- as well as from religious biblical scholars who can live with a metaphorical understanding of the resurrection.

But the task for the curious reader trying to cut through all this clutter has been made easy by Robert Conner's The Jesus Cult: 2000 Years of the Last Days.

As the title suggests, Conner incisively demonstrates that a crucial element in early Christian belief that the arrival of Jesus on clouds was any day now is just plain wrong.

Conner also pulls together the New Testament texts that show just how incoherent the resurrection stories are: no wonder the apologists have to work so hard in their sophistry.

In a very engaging conversational writing style, Conner shows the ongoing damage into our own times that the Jesus Cult causes.

This book is a must-read for Christians who are curious enough about their faith to engage in some due diligence.

Christian scholar Bart Ehrman: Books of Bible

Why doesn't Bart believe in God, the Devil, or the Bible anymore?
(Bart D. Ehrman) March 21, 2023. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Bible scholar and Professor Bart Ehrman has written a new book on Revelation, titled Armageddon: What the Bible Really Says about the End.

In it he examines the least-read and most-misunderstood book of the Bible, The Book of Revelation. It is out this month (March 2023). It's an interesting subject: It's The. End. Of. The. World!

A person’s reasons for de-conversion from Christianity to agnosticism (not knowing) or atheism (not believing in a superior being) are something that many Christians speculate wildly about, misunderstand, or simply refuse to believe, but those reasons can be varied and complex.

In this episode, Prof. Ehrman talks to Megan Lewis about why he de-converted, how he found meaning after the Christian religion, and why he does what he does. Meg asks Barty some personal questions:
  • What impact did learning more about the Bible have on your religious convictions?
  • What truly prompted you to leave Christianity, and how long had you been wrestling with that problem before you realized that you couldn’t solve it?
  • Was there a specific moment that led you to finally walk away, or was it more the culmination of years of thought and reflection?
  • Did you find any of the solutions satisfying, or were they all lacking?
  • What do you mean when you say you’re an agnostic-atheist?
  • Some people believe that the real reason you write all of these popular books, speak in public, run your blog, and so on, is because you’re on a mission to de-convert the faithful.
  • In his book God’s Problem, you make the point of saying that you have no interest in de-converting anyone, so why do you do this work?
Who chose official books of the Bible?
Megan Lewis and Bart Ehrman discuss the "origin of the Christian canon," meaning: Who chose the books that made it into the Bible?"

And why did they choose these 27 and leave out the other books? They address related issues, such as:
  • books, letters, and gospels that were considered authoritative by some early Christians, but were ultimately rejected on one basis or another
  • early New Testament manuscripts that actually DO contain some rejected texts
  • criteria that were used to determine which texts to include
  • proto-orthodox church fathers and their influence
  • what information early church fathers did -- and did not -- have to base their decisions on.

Modern obsession with BUTTS (video)

Third Paradigm, Sept. 3, 2022; Special WQ Correspondent Seymour Butts, Wisdom Quarterly
Don't look at my bubblegum butt! OK, look. (This whole social media obsession is too much).

Modern obsession with butts | Evolutionary psychology | anthropology
How are females objectified?
(Third Paradigm) Modern social media and the for-profit sex industry is replete with female objectification and fixation on certain body parts.

This video presents a two-fold analysis of this phenomenon. Whereas the first part looks at the evolutionary roots of sexual preference, the second looks at a philosophical/psychoanalytic account of modern-day sexual objectification and hyper accentuation of sexually pronounced body parts.

Goblins and other subhumans love butts and twerking demonstrations (Nekrogoblikon).

Peace: Chanting "Om Shanti"

One India
Peace is what we strive for in life, whatever the ultimate objective we hope to attain. A conscious approach to it makes our striving spiritual.

Unswerving peace is the summit of all spiritual endeavours. As in all religions, Hinduism promotes practices in pursuit of peace, the ultimate end.

The word shanti means "peace." In the Vedantic view of Hinduism, the peace that one restlessly hankers after is inherent. Peace is the natural state. The very being itself is pure peace -- which stands against the normal idea that peace is a product to be attained.

One strives to attain peace failing to recognize one's own oneness with peace. Hence for realizing the peace already present within, chanting is sometimes suggested. Om shanti repeated three times at the end of mantras dispels troubles that cloud peace... More>>
