The worst ways to get "enlightened"

I did my yoga, and I'm starting to see not-self and that I am One. What's for lunch?

Rites and rituals for samadhi in India

(dakota of earth) India's worst way to reach "enlightenment," usually defined in Hinduism as mere samadhi, which is a stage to understanding not the final goal itself in Buddhism.

I think I'm starting to lose my grip on reality.
When one becomes a "saint" (a NOBLE ONE) in Buddhism, having entered at least the first stage of enlightenment (of seven stages usually condensed and described as four main stages), one is immediately rid of four things.

Of these is the wrong view that clinging to rites and rituals could ever lead to enlightenment (bodhi, awakening to the ultimate truth).
  • Dhutanga of living under a tree
Attachment to rites and rituals (sīlabbata-parāmāso) is one of the subtle fetters binding beings (who are constantly becoming and never actually being) to samsara, the Wheel of Life and Death. Śīla refers to "virtue" or "moral conduct" + vata (bata) to "religious duty, observance, rite, practice, custom" [25] + parāmāsa to "being attached to" or "a contagion" (clinging, upādāna) and has the connotation of "mishandling" the Dhamma [26], Buddha's Teachings. Together sīlabbata-parāmāso translates as "the contagion of [adhering to] mere rule and ritual, the infatuation of good works, the delusion that they suffice" [27] or, more simply, "fall[ing] back on attachment [clinging] to precepts and rules" [28]. Whereas the fetter of "doubt" (vicikiccha) can be seen as pertaining to the dharmas of competing wandering ascetics (samanas) during the time of the Buddha, the fetter regarding clinging to rites and rituals likely refers to some practices of contemporary Brahmanical authorities [29]. More
  • I punished the body (Erika Tanith)
The former prince Siddhartha Gautama (the future historical Buddha), as a wandering ascetic on a quest for enlightenment, practiced these futile things -- particularly extreme fasting -- for years until he finally stopped blaming the body for the mind's defilements and accepted the blissful meditative absorptions (jhanas) as the real path of purification and path of freedom to seeing things as they really are and thereby finally being able to let go of lust, clinging, attachment, and all that binds us to interminable rebirth and suffering in samsara.
  • The 13 Sane Ascetic Practices (dhutangas)
Then I realized I was that One God incarnate
Until then, a person might do any useless thing -- particularly engaging in the extremes of severe austerities and bodily mortifications (tapas, penances, extreme austerities, attempts at purification) to purify oneself or hedonism, debauchery, and excess with the excuse that "anything can be used in the service of liberation, including the very poisons -- alcohol, drugs ("Crazy Wisdom"), sanctified or twisted sexuality (tantric sex), meat eating and cannibalism (as in Aghori holyman practices), fasting and self-starvation (inedia), self-mummification (sokushinbutsu)...

Ancient Indian atheism: materialism

The Vedas are wrong? Karma has no effects?
Charvaka
(Sanskrit चार्वाक, Cārvāka), also known as Lokāyata ("world only"), is an ancient Indian school of materialism [1].

It is an example of the atheistic schools in the ancient Indian philosophies [a][3][b][5][c].

Charvaka holds that only direct perception (seeing with my own eyes, experiencing with my own senses), empiricism (provable, objective scientific method), and conditional inference (logical deduction and argument) are proper sources of knowledge; it embraces philosophical skepticism and rejects all ritualism [4][6][7][8][9].

In other words, the Charvaka epistemology (the study of how we know or decide that things are true) states that whenever one infers a truth from a set of observations or truths, one must acknowledge doubt; inferred knowledge is conditional [10]. It was a well-attested belief system in ancient India [d].

Brihaspati, a [heretical] philosopher, is traditionally referred to as the founder of the Charvaka or Lokāyata philosophy, although some scholars dispute this [11, 12].
On Lokayata | Indic Civilizational Portal
.
Charvaka developed during the Hindu reformation period in the first millennium BCE [13] and is considered a philosophical predecessor to subsequent or contemporaneous heterodox philosophies such as Ajñāna, Ājīvika, Jainism, and Buddhism [14].

Its teachings have been compiled from historic secondary literature such as those found in the shastras, sutras, and Indian epic poetry [15].

Charvaka is categorized as one of the nāstika or "heterodox" schools of Indian philosophy [16, 17]. More

God is the Devil, says the Christian Bible

I found every verse that proves God is the Devil so you don’t have to

The older Ethiopian Bible is better than the KJV.
(MorgueOfficial) Premiered Sept. 20, 2025: I’m going to prove that the deity Christians call God is actually the Devil. How? Let's look at PROOF in the Bible itself -- not the cherrypicked verses they spoon feed us on Sunday mornings. I mean the raw, uncut, crazy parts they hope we never open to. And guess what? I’m not the first person to notice. The Gnostics knew it. Some of the first Christians read these very same verses and said, "Yeah, this ‘God’ is totally evil."

Gnostics have been saying it for a long, long time: This 'God' is the devil

World's first Bible reveals God is the Devil!
The God: "Hey, Bich, don't touch that fruit!"
(BIBLE STORY) Sept. 30, 2024: What if everything we thought we knew about God and the Bible is wrong?

This video dives deeply into the ancient Nag Hammadi texts and diverse Gnostic beliefs that the creator of our world isn’t the loving God we’ve been taught to worship but rather the Demiurge—a false jealous god (Yaldabaoth?) who seeks to control and keep us in ignorance.

With hidden wisdom and forgotten scriptures, we explore how the Gnostics saw the material world as a prison and the serpent in Eden as a liberator offering forbidden knowledge.

Discover the radical ideas that challenge mainstream religion, revealing that true salvation may rest in breaking free from that Demiurge's control.

From wise Sophia’s role as the guide to enlightenment to the real meaning behind Jesus’ teachings, this video questions everything. Ready to explore the truth that’s been buried for centuries? Hit play and behold!

Rebirth doesn't equal evolution (Cayce)

Wait a minute. Samsara sucks. Stop this ride because I want off this merry-go-round!

The endless round of rebirth
There's an interesting wrong view from the time of the Buddha. At that time, there were six sectarian teachers ("six heretical teachers") each teaching their own
doctrine.

Two of these, Makkhali Gosala and Purana Kassapa, are very interesting because they taught a particularly pernicious wrong view (miccha ditthi) that deeds (karma) have no results, no effect on anything. We're just helpless pawns of Fate or Destiny, Kismet or Chance, Luck or some arbitrary God-being, but not to worry since rebirth (samsara) will run out by itself. There's nothing to do other than just live and suffer or try to have a good time as best one can.

Just keep going, Ralph. You'll be there soon?
The Buddha declared this wrong view (called the inefficacy of karma) as being very bad, very harmful, and very dangerous. Why? It can lead to inaction or a sense of helplessness, as if we are all just "victims" of the universe, suffering needlessly without recourse to any permanent relief.

In fact, we are suffering for a reason -- because of ignorance (wrong views/delusion/confusion), craving (lust/grasping/clinging), and aversion (hate/fear/frustration). These are the Three Poisons of the Mind/Heart. And something can be done about suffering because something can be done about them.

There is a way to liberation from samsara!
Samsara
will NOT roll out like a ball of yarn that runs out; it will keep going and going like a hamster wheel, which never comes to an end so long as a hamster keeps treading it.

Things that happen to us due to causes, not without them. There are always causes. We may not like them or accept them, but things are not happening without them. Therefore, we can do something about it. It would be rare that nothing could be done.

We must do something about our circumstances or never expect disappointment (dukkha) to stop. There was a third teacher, Mahavira (Nigantha Nataputta), the founder of Jainism, who understood many things and had a great deal of respect for karma; it's just that he had an imperfect understanding of it, which led to wrong views and conclusions. Worse perhaps than these six heresies is the popular Vedic/Hindu view that all rebirths are progress towards heaven or liberation (moksha).

Three Poisons at hub of wheel of samsara
The Buddha, often accused in modern times of being a "Hindu," rejected this completely, just as Edgar Cayce rejects it in this video. Not all rebirths improve us and send us on our way in an upward direction. Most are useless, often very harmful, a "downfall" (
niraya) of needless suffering not conducive to growth.

It is much better to suffer a little here (as by restraining ourselves or delaying gratification) rather than always trying to gratify our ego and having to pay the high price for it later -- due to our ignorance (delusion), greed (craving), and aversion (hatred, anger, fear).

It is remarkable that the council or collective being channeled by Cayce understood this so well, even if they keep speaking of a "soul" as if that were a fixed and permanent reality when it is not. But it sure will seem that way to anyone who develops the third eye (dibba cakkhu) to see beings being reborn according to their actions, because psychic powers like telepathy or the "divine eye" do not impart enlightenment or liberating wisdom without the path-of-practice and purification the Buddha spent 45 years teaching to the world.

With those practices (the 37 Requisites of Enlightenment), one can see what gives rise to rebirth, the illusion that the gandhabba (the continuity of the impersonal consciousness process) is a "soul," that all things are impermanent, disappointing, and impersonal, which will naturally cause one to let go of clinging and thereby be freed of all further suffering.

Meg, stop. You're causing the wheel to go round.
As that is far from the path most beings are pursuing, there is no reason to think anyone is headed for enlightenment and nirvana anytime soon. However, in the meantime, one can be reborn in a better world, in a safer world, a heaven, far from the subhuman planes of rebirth, which are full of suffering that is far worse than we meet with here in this middling human world that has as much suffering as pleasure, as much opportunity for wisdom as oppression.

The Lazy Way to Enlightenment

Zen Master Bankei's Unborn Zen

The lazy way to enlightenment: [Zen Master] Bankei's Unborn Zen
(Asangoham) "The Unborn is not something difficult to attain; it is not something distant. It is not something we have to search for; it is not something we have to discover. It is something we already have, right here, right now" - Bankei Yōtaku.

Bankei Yōtaku (Rinzai school Zen)
Zen Buddhism is a major school of Mahayana Buddhism that originated in China (where it is called Chan, short for channa, which is the Chinese attempt to say jhana, which is the Pali pronunciation of Sanskrit dhyana) and later spread to Japan.

The Japanese term "Zen" comes from the Sanskrit word dhyana, which refers to a state of deep meditation and awareness. (It is disputed what the difference between dharana and dhyana is in Yoga's Eightfold Path, as both are sometimes called "meditation" in English).

Zen emphasizes the experience of direct, intuitive realization of the nature of reality and the attainment of spiritual enlightenment (kensho, satori).

All beings have essential Buddha-nature.
There are two names considered most important to the development of Zen are, Dogen and Hakuin. Dogen Kigen (1200-1253) was the founder of Soto Zen. He became obsessed with a question as a young man, and it motivated his search for Truth.

Simply put, the answer Dogen came to was: Practice itself is an expression of enlightenment. Because of this conclusion, one of the main practices of Soto Zen became Shikantaza, which means "just sitting."

In Shikantaza (as meditation), one merely sits. There is no practice of concentration, breath counting, and so on. One merely sits. As Dogen said, “You cannot get it wrong.”

Soto Zen is known as a gradual enlightenment school, meaning that over time one eventually realizes one's own inherent Buddha-nature.

Hakuin Ekaku (1686-1769) was the founder of the Rinzai (not Soto) school of Zen Buddhism.

Jesus and the OTHER sons of God

Cloudy Jesus, is he happy to have the truth out?
GUEST: Cambridge scholar of comparative religion Dr. Catherine Nixey is a classicist and journalist, author of The Darkening Age and her latest, Heretic: Jesus Christ and the Other Sons of God. She sits down with Mitch Jeserich, Letters & Politics, KPFA.org (Pacifica Free Speech Radio, Berkeley).
Heretic: Jesus Christ and the Other Sons of God: An Eye-Opening Account of Early Christian Divergence
Explore the Evolution of Jesus in Early Christianity: Author Catherine Nixey has 4.5 out of 5 stars with 4 ratings since Dec. 3, 2024. This is the #1 new release in historiography.

"A brilliant book." — The Times, Best of the Year.

"Heretic tells a moreish intellectual story and shakes up your understanding of Western history. At the same time, somewhat improbably, it supplies at least one good joke per paragraph; you have to keep turning back to enjoy them again." ― The Economist, Best of the Year

From a celebrated Cambridge University classicist and author of The Darkening Age (“[a] ballista-bolt of a book”—New York Times Book Review), a biography of the many, diverse variations of Jesus who thrived in early Christian traditions — and how they were lost until just one “true” Christ survived.

Contrary to the teachings of the Church today, in the first several centuries of Christianity’s existence, there was no consensus as to who Jesus was or why he had mattered. Instead, there were many different Christs.

One [named Saint Issa] had a twin brother [named Saint James] and traveled to India [and ancient Hemis Gompa in Leh, Ladakh, Tibet]; another consorted with dragons [serpent Reptilians].

One particularly terrifying Christ scorned his parents and killed those who opposed him.

Our Lord Ap of T, son of God
Moreover, in the early years of the first millennium there were many other saviors, many sons of gods [like the more popular Apollonius of Tyana] who healed the sick and cured the lame. But as Christianity spread, they were pronounced unacceptable – even heretical – and they faded from view.
  • The original meaning of "heresy" was positive and referred to thinking through and choosing a narrative from among those offered and argued for. The Church made "heretic" a horrible thing.
Comparative religion in the Christian church

Heresy: Jesus Christ and the Other Sons of God
An earlier hardcover of the book with a slightly different title came out on March 7, 2024, and has racked up 4.3 out of 5 stars with 200 ratings:

Heretic unearths the different versions of Christ [Kristos, one "anointed" with entheogenic drugs, according to American classicist Dr. Ammon Hillman] who existed in the minds of early Christians, and the process of evolution — and elimination — by which "Jesus" became the singular figure we know today.

“Heretic has the mother lode of tales too hot for Christendom. Nixey has carefully wrung out a number of apocryphal texts for scandal.” — Harper's Magazine

From a celebrated classicist [one who studies the classics] comes a group-biography of the many, diverse Jesuses who thrived in early Christian traditions — and how they were killed off until just one “true” [official single-Church narrative of] Christ survived [everything else being considered a blasphemous heresy even if it was true].

Contrary to the teachings of the Church today, in the first several centuries of Christianity’s existence, there was no consensus as to who Jesus was or why he had mattered [when he lived and was making trouble for the Temple].

Instead, there were many different Christs. One had a twin brother and traveled to India; another consorted with dragons; one scorned his parents and killed those who opposed him.

Why do we know so little about these early versions of Jesus? It is because, starting in the fourth century AD, the [Eastern] Orthodox form of Christianity that had become preeminent set about systematically wiping out every other variation, denouncing their gospels as apocryphal [of doubtful origin] and their followers as heretics [freethinkers who dare contradict the official story].

These unfortunate Christians lost their rights, their property, their churches [congregation sites] — in some cases, even their lives. [Burn them as witches!]

Heretic unearths the different versions of Christ who existed in the minds of early Christians and the process of evolution — and elimination — by which Jesus became the singular figure we know today.

The Satanic Bible: King James Version (KJV)

No wonder Western society rapes.
(WQ) We need not worry about Anton LaVey's Satanic Bible, largely a silly book about hedonism and throwing off the shackles of Christian shame and oppression. (Sure we can ban it, burn it, and increase sales, but why bother?) What if a far worse book is the one LaVey is ostensibly opposing?

If a bad book says, "Do bad," so what? However, if the alleged "Good Book" says "Do bad," now that's something to be troubled by. That a devil should do harm, that's to be expected. That an all-loving "God" do harm -- call for murder and urge genocide, allow rape, slavery, genital mutilation, and even sanction the murder of one's own children as a punishment (when the Bible demands that bad boys and girls be stoned to death, not as an option but as a commandment that God demands) -- there's something wrong with that "God."

Fine will deter the rape or marriage will punish it
And cowards too fearful to say so shall approve of or be murderers, rapists, animal slaughterers, flesh-eaters, participants in genocide, and pat themselves on the back for being obedient, currying favor with their Lord so that he doesn't kill them after death but let them live on for eternity, worshipping Him and doing His bidding, gathering around singing His praises. Whew, is this really a religion? Abrahamic faiths (Catholicism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) are real?

What if the God of the Old Testament is actually the DEVIL (a jealous, genocidal, angry murderer of human and other beings)?
Rape is part of our religion.
(MorgueOfficial) In the Jewish-Christian Bible, the "God" depicted demands blood sacrifices, the killing of children (by stoning for disobedience), the deaths of innocent men and women, calls for genocides against the Israelites neighbors, allows rape, sometimes demands it, and unleashes plagues and floods to destroy humans.

Why would an all-loving God constantly demand blind obedience, worship, tribute, and sacrifice? What if this weren’t God but actually the Devil or a devil? This was what the Gnostic were saying from the beginning, describing a Demiurge that created this prison world, a simulation or endless samsara, which we need to escape not become brainless choir singers forever and ever.

It's our sacred Christian biblical tradition to rape
and kill children. God and Church say so (BBC).
