Buy Nothing Day: economic boycott

"Economic blackout" is planned for Friday, Feb. 28, 2025
Stick it to The Man! (Make him wait a day)
"Buy Nothing Day," will it work? Will American "consumers" really boycott capitalism and all the markets? An American meditation teacher in Chicago is sure they will at least take notice of the problem and help cement a lasting solution, unless the corporations align and undermine efforts to do anything but buy, sell, and shut up (while watching Netflix, chilling, and finding some legal source of inebriation to order online and have delivered by EV care of Postmates.com or some such Uber Lyft disruptor that makes our cushy life even easier and more dissatisfying.

Dior drops Hadid for Israeli, faces boycott

Dior replaces pro-Palestine Bella Hadid with Israeli model
The luxury fashion brand is facing boycott calls after making the swap.
I'm way hotter than that Arab Bella
Luxury fashion brand Christian Dior is facing boycott calls on social media after Turkish and Israeli sources reported on Monday that it had replaced American model and longtime brand ambassador Bella Hadid with Israeli model May Tager in its latest ad campaign.

Neither Hadid, whose father is Palestinian, nor the brand, has commented on her alleged replacement, which was initially reported in Türkiye’s Yeni Safak and an Israeli blog called Fashion Forward, raising questions of the reports’ veracity even as there were calls to #BoycottDior on X (formerly Twitter).
Tager appeared to be the star of the brand’s new holiday campaign ad, according to posts shared on her Instagram last week.

Bella dared to post this on IG
Hadid became the first Dior brand ambassador of Palestinian descent in 2016 and has repeatedly used her celebrity to advocate for Palestinian rights.

However, she remained silent for several weeks after Hamas’ October 7 attack and Israel’s subsequent devastating bombardment of Gaza.

In an Instagram post on October 26, she said her phone number had been leaked online, leading to her receiving “hundreds of death threats” every day.

Writing in her first Instagram post following the declaration of war, Hadid vowed not to be intimidated, explaining, “The people and children of Palestine, especially in Gaza, cannot afford our silence. We are not brave – they are.”

The model emphasized that she mourned for Israeli families who had lost loved ones on October 7, as well as the residents of Gaza who endured “generational trauma” above and beyond the immediate crisis.

“It is important to understand the hardship of what it is to be Palestinian, in a world that sees us as nothing more than terrorists resisting peace,” she wrote, describing her family’s suffering during the Nakba [the Catastrophe], the forced expulsion of 750,000 Palestinians from their land in 1948 by the founders of the [settler colonial] state of Israel.

"There is an urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza that must be attended to. Wars have laws – and they must be upheld, no matter what."

Bella Hadid, whose siblings Gigi and Anwar are also models, revealed in 2021 that she had lost a significant amount of work by supporting Palestine and had even had friends leave her over her advocacy. While Dior has faced calls to drop her before, the brand did not previously give in. More

Twitter @PDeepDive Instagram @PDeepDiveGram palestinedeepdive.com. Let's go live on YouTube with legendary rock musician, songwriter, and founder of Pink Floyd Roger Waters. He revolutionized progressive rock music as the founder-member and the creative force behind Pink Floyd who today continues to sell out the biggest venues across the world.
  • Read the Balfour Declaration: It protects the indigenous Palestinian Arabs, Bedouins, and others present in the land of Palestine (future state of Israel)
His arena tour of the U.S., "This Is Not A Drill," kicked off in July of 2022. It is described by Waters as “a groundbreaking new rock 'n roll/cinematic extravaganza...” which is a "stunning indictment of the corporate dystopia in which we all struggle to survive, and a call to action to love, protect, and share our precious and precarious planet home."

It is also no exaggeration to describe Wasters as a human rights warrior, who continues to champion the rights of marginalized peoples across the world, from Palestine to Ecuador.

Mark Seddon is in conversation with Waters, discussing Israel's ongoing assault on innocent Palestinian children [who are guilty of being Arab and existing], as well as the latest news from the region.

They also explore what is being done to challenge Israel's apartheid and settler colonialism around the world today, looking towards the growing Free Palestine student movement, the UK Labour Party conference hall, the ongoing occupation of Israeli weapons factories, and towards the stands and players of elite football bearing the Palestinian flag.

Film: India's "Forrest Gump" (Bollywood)

Laal Singh Chaddha
(Paramount Pictures, August 2022) Laal is a simple man whose extraordinary journey will fill audiences with love, warmth, and happiness (and at least one reviewer with an ulcer and possibly one nation with some communal violence on its hands. The Sikhs are in for some trouble from the Hindus. How and why?

This is an official remake of the 1994 American classic film Forrest Gump for Indian audiences with cultural touchstones appropriate to their understanding and temperament, well, almost. It's being boycotted by the Hindu majority who managed to find offense.

(Dhruv Rathee) Boycott of Laal Singh Chaddha. Is it anti-Hindu?

Laal Singh Chaddha movie review and analysis
This movie is a labor of love...that truly misses the mark. #laalsinghchaddha starring #aamirkhan #kareenakapoor #nagachaitanya. It really does underdeliver the epic that was Forrest Gump. It's a #bollywood movie that will meet the fate of most films this year. What went wrong? Here it is, the (panning) review of Laal Singh Chaddha starring Aamir Khan, superstar Kareena Kapoor, and Naga Chaitanya.

Scarlett Johansson in "Hitler's Nice" (movie)

Director Taika Waititi (FOX Searchlight); Sheldon S., Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Hitler starring in JoJo Rabbit
JoJo, I'll be your friend. Call me Adolf. - OK.
Writer-director Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, JoJo Rabbit, a Nazi Era World War II satire.

The story follows a lonely German Nazi Youth boy, "JoJo" (Roman Griffin Davis), whose Nazi world-view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in the attic.

I may act like a Nazi, but I'm way pro-Israel.
Aided only by his loveable imaginary friend, German Reich Führer and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind, super-patriotic, white nationalism.

Trouble at Disney?
Disney propaganda film: Making of the Nazi
(Cinema Blend) When Disney acquired Fox earlier this year, reports also surfaced that Jojo Rabbit’s new parent company [Disney] was worried about the movie fitting in with their [Disney] branding. Scarlett Johansson recently shot down the reports, explaining how “excited” Disney execs are about the dark comedy at a dinner she attended following the acquisition. Jojo Rabbit may have controversial roots, but it’s perhaps part of the reason why the movie is getting so much buzz ahead of Oscar season. The movie is one of Toronto International Film Festival’s most anticipated films. Stay tuned for reactions following its premiere this Sunday, September 8. More

Jewishvoiceforpeace.org, 2/15/19; Sheldon S., Crystal Quintero (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Award-winning performer Harry Belafonte, civil rights icon Professor Angela Davis, playwright Eve Ensler, Nobel Laureate George P. Smith, and hundreds of other sign on to #IstandWithIlhanCampaign.

NYC, New York - In just days, hundreds of celebrities and well-known progressive activists and academics declared their support for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, sending in photos to the #IStandWithIlhan social media campaign.

Civil Rights icon Professor Angela Davis, award-winning performer Harry Belafonte, playwright and author of the “Vagina Monologues” Eve Ensler and Nobel laureate George P. Smith were early supporters of the campaign, launched by Jewish Voice for Peace on Wednesday.

Additional supporters include Oscar-nominated director Lexi Alexanderauthor and climate justice activist Naomi Klein, acclaimed academic Phyllis Bennis, the granddaughter of Clara Lemlich, leader of the NY shirtwaist strike of 1909, and, as well as the Dream Defenders and the staff of the Center for Constitutional Rights.

In addition to the hundreds of personal photos and messages, supporters including actress Alia Shawkat and Palestinian poet and activist Remi Kanazi tweeted their support with an image of Ilhan Omar created by Palestinian art organization, Watan Palestine.

“The wide spectrum of support we’re seeing for Congresswoman Ilhan Omar indicates the growing number of people who will no longer be silenced in their criticism of Israel,” said JVP Executive Director Rebecca Vilkomerson. “Ilhan Omar’s defiance against the pro-Israel lobby and her defense of our Constitutional right to boycott make it it clear: It’s a new day in Congress.”

Rep. Omar is the latest in a long line of outspoken defenders of Palestinian human rights to suffer attacks and a bad-faith smear campaign by right-wing politicians and mainstream Jewish establishment figures. More
