Punk rock: 'American Hardcore' (film)

American Hardcore (documentary)

American Hardcore (film)
(YouTube Movies & TV) Fueled by a ferocious soundtrack, director Paul Rachman's AMERICAN HARDCORE gives fans an all-access pass to the rise and fall of the U.S. punk scene.

It was (some will swear is still) an explosive musical and cultural phenomenon that shaped everything from crossover thrash metal to the grunge movement to the emo and pop/punk music currently riding the charts.

Punk rock girl (Hollywood movie version)
Set against the conservative early '80s political landscape, AMERICAN HARDCORE chronicles the homegrown hardcore scene that was a swift kick in the head to corporate rock and mainstream complacency, as disaffected teens adopted the same collective credo -- harder, faster, louder.

Did "hardcore" really begin in 1977 with the OC band Middle Class?

From downtown warehouses to suburban bedrooms, the scene spread from city to city like wildfire, uniting bored, angry outcasts into an authentic underground revolution. A raw blast of politics, passion, and rage, AMERICAN HARDCORE features never-before-seen live footage from

South Park rips Labubu, Trump+Satan

Sell it, and the prices goes down (flooded market); burn it, prices goes up (as it becomes rarer).

‘South Park’ Ep. 4: Satan pregnant with Trump’s baby, Labubu dolls, and more

"Ugly-cute" demonic dolls are all the craze
(Access Hollywood) Sept. 4, 2025:   The fourth episode of “South Park” Season 27 highlights the Labubu [aka demonic Pazuzu] doll craze while continuing to focus on P-Diddy Trump.

In the latest episode (shown on Comedy Central, which aired Sept. 3rd, and is now on Paramount+), Fox News questions the 47th president’s sexual relationship with [a possibly underage] Satan as they note that Mrs. Melania Trump has been away in New York City, asking the diseased and decrepit 79-year-old Diddler Trump directly if he and Satan are sleeping together.

Labubu's alter ego Pazuzu
As the Fox News hosts speculate what is going on between them and how their gay romance works, they also praise the pairing.

At one point, a miniature Vice Pres. JD Vance appears at the White House with Satan, who reveals that he is struggling with the relationship but is holding on to a big secret.

Simultaneously, Butters and other South Park students are buying Labubus, which are only going up in price due to Trump's tax-raising tariffs. At the end of the episode, Satan reveals he’s pregnant with Trump’s baby, leading to overjoyed reactions from Fox News.

Nirvana reunites w/o Kurt Cobain

Nirvana is the ultimate goal in Buddhism, the peak, the summum bonum. It's also a band.

Punk was fresh and rebellious and underground.
Long, long ago, in the early days of LA's hardcore punk scene, the Germs (one of the first hardcore bands with a female musician) used to play in Redondo Beach. They were banned from most places in Hollywood. I remember sitting on stage in front of Pat Smear's amp as he struggled to play even rudimentary guitar.

Darby Crash could not be convinced to use a microphone. He would yell and cut himself as he contorted on the stage, giving the crowd a show. Then years later Seattle vomited up Nirvana. And they would play around LA in small clubs. I resented Kurt's choice of a band name, a cheap shot, a low blow, exploitation, thinking that sacred attainment out of bounds for such a worldly purpose as a band name. Like Darby and I, Kurt at least understood the Buddhist significance of the word.

The Germ's punk tribute to Buddhism "The Slave"

Bam! Where did the shotgun blast come from?
Nirvana literally means "the end of all suffering." So on that basis it was a good name for a depressive grunge band from the mighty banks of the muddy river that runs through rainy Seattle. The Germs had a great album, "G.I.," a punk classic. Reading the liner notes, I was shocked to see that Joan Jett of all people had anything to do with it. She put it together. Joan Jett always just seemed like some rough gal who made out with child actor Dakota Fanning in a film about The Runaways, amazing she could extend her 15 minutes of fame to a lifetime of playing in front of an audience. (Of course, she didn't play herself in the biopic, but that's how I remember the female rocker).
The Germs live, "Lexicon Devil," with Darby Crash intoxicated as usual

Then, when Dave Grohl wasn't going to let Cobain's suicide (or murder by drug addled Courtney Love as the private investigator hired to investigate the death concluded and got in a lot of trouble for coming on the Kevin & Bean Show on KROQ and talking about it, now that Love was a rich heir that could sue anyone who dared to imply she was guilty of anything, as she went on to try her hand at acting in a movie about Larry Flynt) stand in the way of his musical career and went on to form Foo Fighters, bassist Krist Novoselic put together a band. I won tickets to see the group at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. I should have stayed home. They were horrible and boring and an insult to any expectations. Who, other than his mom, knew that Great Hair Dave was the secret power source of the group?

Whatever Cobain was channeling, it sure didn't seem Krist was contributing much. Though, of course, every member of a band contributes something ineffable even if people can't see it, maybe just energy and past life connections. So for all that time to pass, and all those Nirvana tee-shirts to be sold and worn by people who may never have heard the band, it's an inspiration to see the reformation go down like this. Pat Smear was a legend, and Dave Grohl knew it, so inducting him into the Foo Fighters was no accident. And it's almost as if he finally learned to play the guitar.

When people said the greatest grunge drummer in history would be playing the benefit, it seemed like a natural assumption that it would just be him on guitar with his very young daughter on drums like before. But this is Violet Grohl, not the little drummer girl (Harper). So what a treat to see all the effort that went into putting this together with Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and St. Vincent with a defective earpiece still pulling out a fabulous performance. All hail, Dave (a kind of Don Bolles), a cheating cheater who cheats but that seems part and parcel to rock 'n roll. They all loved British Buddhist and almost-Scottish Buddhist monk David Bowie.

Vajrayana Buddhist David Bowie on spirituality
Dave Grohl, extreme metal fan of Sepultura
  • *Millions have heard Nirvana’s cover of the David Bowie classic “The Man Who Sold the World” from their Unplugged album. Drummer Dave Grohl and guitarist Pat Smear (like Kurt Cobain and Darby Crash before them) are devout Bowie fans. But who knew that Smear and his bandmates in the Germs used to stalk Bowie all over 1970s' Los Angeles? Join Smear and Grohl as they drive around L.A. (in a custom and, as Grohl says, “totally ‘90s” Ford Bronco) visiting Bowie’s L.A. homes, both personal and creative. Along the way the two bandmates reminisce, nerd out on Bowie trivia, and even pick up a legendary passenger. (They also call Joan Jett at home.)

(Jimmy Kimmel Live) Jan. 6, 2025: The show is back with a new installment after a long holiday break, people texting their holiday cards instead of mailing them, a rapper named 2 Low was on a podcast called “One on One with Mike D” and they gave us quiet a moment by firing a gun in his pocket, Mario Lopez was handing out tequila shots on the Nikki Glaser Presents the Golden Globes red carpet and Jimmy has a bone to pick about it, the Golden Globes put up little facts about each of the presenters as they walked on stage, we have a new winner for tonight’s award for “Excellence in Reporting,” Canadian Justin Trudeau (who is ogled and crushed on by a healthy Melania) announced that he will step down as prime minister of Canada, Eric Trump turned 41 and Daddy DonDon wrote a very heartfelt post on Truth Social, today is also the fourth anniversary of our Capitol being stormed by the Buffalo Wild Wing of the Republican party, Congress certified DJ’s victory and VP Kamala Harris had to give the official sign off on Trump’s win as sitting VP in charge of Congress, and Jimmy speaks to the “BlueAnon Shaman.” #Kimmel

Mysteries from Darkside of TikTok

Mysterious videos from the Darkside of TikTok
(MODTRICCA) Nov. 4, 2024: Let's look at a creepy TikTok compilation that one should never watch alone. These mysterious TikToks and scary YouTube shorts have become some of the most viral videos on social media, causing many to question reality. This unsettling montage features some mind-blowing celebrity conspiracies, unexplained UFO encounters, and more proof that the Mandela effect is a real phenomenon. If that’s not enough, there is also some terrifying paranormal activity caught on camera and strange animal hybrid creatures that completely defy logic. There’s even more evidence that The Simpsons uses "predictive programming."

Watching election results w/Jon Stewart

(@56kof) About this election, there's an old Turkish saying that goes like this: "When a clown moves into a palace, he does not become king. The palace becomes a circus." [Therefore, as we have been saying for eight years, "Elect a clown, expect a circus."] Worries and love from Europe

'The Simpsons' (first ever and finale)

How 'The Simpsons' animation evolved over 30 years
(Insider) On May 23, 2021, the 32nd season finale of The Simpsons aired on Fox TV, finishing off a landmark season where the show celebrated its 700th episode. The series has come a long way from its humble beginnings as a segment on The Tracey Ullman Show. On air for 32 years by 2021 and still counting, it's become the longest-running scripted series on prime time, the longest-running American animated series, and the longest-running American sitcom.

Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie have evolved a lot over the course of three decades — in the style, movement, and details in character designs, all the way down to pupil size.

This episode of "Movies Insider" turns to David Silverman and Al Jean, two of the main minds behind the show since Day 1, to find out how the show's animation evolved from the rough-around-the-edges style of cartoonist Matt Groening's early sketches to the crisp, clean look of the show in its 32nd season. #TheSimpsons #Animation #MoviesInsider

Bart's Birthday Party (The Simpsons Series Finale)
(Scrooge200) A fake Simpsons series finale involves everyone in Springfield moving on, but Bart is hesitant to change it. Featuring John Cena and Danny Devito. From the Season 36 premiere, "Bart's Birthday."

The Simpsons drops surprise series finale
(Johnny 2 Cellos) For the Season 36 premiere, The Simpsons has done something unprecedented. They aired a surprise series (not season) finale. Well, sort of.

As somebody who grew up obsessed with The Simpsons, it’s cool to say that the show is going through something of a renaissance. Since Matt Selman took over as showrunner in Season 33, the show (created by Mat Groening) has started to feel fresher like it has a renewed energy.

But I think beyond that, the thing that’s really made me excited about the show again is the ways it’s been willing to experiment. And tonight’s premiere, "Bart’s Birthday," is the perfect example of that new energy.

The Simpsons is bringing something fresh to the table, embracing the show’s obscenely long and storied history to throw itself a premature series finale event. It’s one that celebrates The Simpsons in a way that an actual series finale would never be able to. So let’s talk about The Simpsons season premiere/series finale.

JD Vance wins debate, Daily Show (live)

WARNING: Needlessly vulgar sexual references that, though funny, are repulsive and disturbing!

Tim Walz was an utter calamity in the debate
(Link Lauren) Oct. 1, 2024 JD Vance decisively beat (whooped, slammed, destroyed) Tim Walz in the vice presidential debate on CBS tonight. #jdvance #timwalz

Conservative Americans hate Haitians no matter how hard they work, treating them like slaves.
.
Mounted border guard not whipping Haitian
Will the Haitian-Americans of Springfield be vindicated and apologized to or further maligned and lied about? They're not Americans! Who's to say? If an official allowed them in with acceptable paperwork then they are here legally and are, in a sense, Americans. Maybe it's only a temporary status but it is a status nonetheless. Will weird couch humping come up or Vance's history of crossdressing at Yale U come up? One would think he would take this opportunity to dispute it. Viewers are here to see a blood sport, a personal savaging of one another after months of buildup as the two name-call and talk about one another without ever having met. They were both in Congress and the military and the Midwest and Washington, one would think they would have met. Not so small world after all. One this is certain (if anything is because a comet may strike, a mass coronal ejection, a personal exhaustion of karma, a well-deserved military attack, a cyber strike, or the gods/devas may just bump into the switch and shut off the samsara simulation mid-game): One man will lose and we'll never hear from him again, and the other will become vice president, and we'll never hear from him again. Just ask Kosta; it's his joke:

VP Debate: Tim Walz and JD Vance’s biggest moments and misses
(The Daily Show) Oct. 1, 2024: Michael Kosta goes live after the first and only vice presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance. I'm so proud of my curry lover.
Sen. JD Vance won on style if not substance, keeping his cool, presenting meaningful answers in a down-home Midwestern style one would have thought was Tim Walz' specialty. CBS hosts seemed fair, attacking them both and keeping on them. But Walz looked terrible, grimaced, never smiled, looked away, staring at Vance, was nervous and amped up and scared. Trump beat Biden, Harris beat Trump, and now Vance beat Walz. One might disagree with everything Trump stands for. He's a horrible candidate and was an unbearable president, but Vance is nice, not weird, and not deserving of the criticism he has been receiving.

I got hairy legs, and Harris has hairy Walz. You know what I mean! - G-Joe Biden
.
I tried. I'm a coach, not a player.
Vance sounded honest, had obviously prepared, and made an excellent presentation. Walz may be a better guy, more down-home, but he did not come across nearly as well. Because Harris' style is much easier to swallow, in spite of her gaffes, vacuity, and changeableness, it seems a better idea to vote Harris Walz (or Hairy 'alls), but if one could elect Vance independent of Trump, that does not seem like the worst thing.

Finally, it happened. I look better in comparison.
We cannot help but feel Vance has a future despite all the embarrassments and missteps so far. Walz needs polish or to be brought back to himself. Where's the guy who appeared at rallies and did such a great job? One would think Vance was a regal Nazi, all image and rugged, whereas Walz was a grunt, foot soldier, "old guy" as he kept calling himself. He's the same age as youthful Harris and much younger than actual old man Trump. Back to the drawing board, or send Walz to Yale for a little refinement. Democrats win, individual candidates not so much. Republicans may have a better position on some things -- if only it weren't for Project 2025, their stand on women, and if Harris loses, it has to be due to the Democrats not opening up the race to others. We were forced to go from a senile war maniac to a goofy cackler, while being threatened by an egomaniac and an odd bird who came out of nowhere to both impress and scare us.

It's sad that, according to the mainstream media, this is coming down to gender, men going red as women swing blue. Yay, blue! But blue isn't what it used to be. Now it's the war party. Now it's the mainstream. Now it's backed by the CIA and Pentagon and old-school Republicans. One has to wonder. What does analyst Jimmy Dore have to say?

Trump's 9/11, master debater (disaster)

I did a great job, I did a great job, it was a perfect debate performance, la la la la la...

A Closer Look Live Primetime Special: Harris baits Trump into melting down during debate
(Late Night with Seth Meyers) Sept. 12, 2024: Host Seth Meyers takes a closer look at the historic debate between VP Kamala Harris and former Pres. Donald Trump and more in a special election edition of A Closer Look.

It wasn't even that hard. Why's everybody afraid of this brain fried old guy 45?
The Simpsons does it again, predicting future when a female would rule from the middle class

 .
It was unfair, rigged! Did you see her earrings?!
It's funny because it's not unprecedented that someone would bomb right around 9/11. "This was Trump's 9/11," the radio hosts were saying this morning. Even the right-wing AM stations could hardly put up a defense. There's a rumor that KD's earring were transmitters feeding her the answers. Maybe deceased G-Joe B was on the other end, or Hillary having the last laugh. Maybe Tim was coming to the rescue after all, even before K-Dog tapped out.

She cheated! I won the debate!
What was so disgusting about Trumpo the clown was his anger, a grumpy old man, too old to be running. He's the oldest. The GOP needs to have a meeting, get MTG or Liz Cheney or Kimberly "OMG What Happened to Your Face" Guilfoyle to talk him out of running. This country needs fresh blood not stale adult diapers in the White House. He's weird, he's too old, his cognitive decline is only getting worse. Send JD Vance in to run, while Old Orange can be a Yeller at home with his intestinal issues keeping him on his golden (toilet seat) throne.
I kept my calm, I kept my cool, I was an inspiration to girls everywhere: Get to the top by all mean necessary. It what Malcolm X would say, what my father would say, what Ivanka would say...
.
Loser. He's a loser. I wouldn't vote for a loser. And I've heard he's really weird.

Why is Mr. Fraud stealing our valor?
The worst thing is not his racist dog whistle against Haitians. He's just echoing JD by throwing red meat at his fans. The worst is trying to claim he did a great job, a flawless debate performance with no need for another. He's so scared of Kamala that he's refusing to debate her, trying to gaslight us into believing that she must have lost because she asked for a rematch. Just clearly wants to trounce him some more. And he doesn't need to any further because he proved to himself that she's got a bigger IQ than he does, is suddenly presidential (shaking hands, keeping her cool, answering to the point, not rambling, not being negative, not whining and complaining, which is all Trump and too many Republicans seem to spend their time doing nowadays.

I should just play golf in my old man suit for the rest of my short life. I look like Fred Mertz.
I'm being reamed over here, and it really chaps my hide! It's so unfair. I'm being wronged!
We've got a log cabin waiting for you in Florida, Cutie. Just win, win, win and wear big ties.

I preferred Biden than Trump. I'm voting Kamala
It is understandable the RFK Jr. and Tulsi Gabbard are opposed to Harris. It is less understandable that they would defect to Trump's camp. He is wholly unsuited for anything but orange overalls and a seat in the courtroom. It's too bad new administrations don't go after old. It would a pleasant change if criminals-in-chief had to account for their conduct.

I refuse to go to the bathroom until I'm president again! You'll regret it if my butt explodes
