A Man's World? Polyandry in Shangri-La

One queen with many kings?
Tibet Travel (Tibet Vista) [Guide Jamyang was traveling on the Lost Horizon and] found the lost Shangri-La (Tibetan Shambhala, Western Paradise Lost), and their secret to happiness seems to be polyandry (multiple husbands for each woman).

POLYANDRY (Ancient Greek πολύ, polú, "many" + ἀνήρ, anḗr, "man") is a form of polygamy in which a female takes two or more husbands at the same time.

Polyandry is contrasted with polygyny, involving one male and two or more females. If a marriage involves a plural number of "husbands and wives" participants of each gender, then it can be called polygamy [1], group or conjoint marriage [2].
  • Anything he can do, I...
Let's not forget the beautiful practice of polyamory for those who can overcome the venoms of envy and jealousy.
In its broadest use, polyandry refers to sexual relations with multiple males within or without marriage.

Of the 1,231 societies listed in the 1980 Ethnographic Atlas,
  • 186 were found to be monogamous,
  • 453 had occasional polygyny,
  • 588 had more frequent polygyny, and
  • 4 had polyandry [3].
Polyandry is more frequent (less rare) than this figure suggests because it considered only those examples found in the Himalayan Buddhist mountain region (8 societies).

Feminine female power!
More recent studies have found at least 4 other societies practicing polyandry [4]. Fraternal polyandry is practiced among Tibetans in Nepal and parts of China, in which two or more brothers are married to the same female (wife), with that wife having equal sexual access to them [5, 6].

It is associated with partible paternity, the cultural belief that a child can have more than one [legal] father [4].

Several ethnic groups practicing polyandry in India identify their customs with their descent from the female Draupadi, a central character of the Mahabharata (revered in Hinduism) who was married to five brothers, although local practices may not be fraternal themselves.

One husband, one wife? - How bad is a good marriage? Be honest, completely honest

Adam's Eve was his "rescuer."
WHY? Polyandry is believed to be more likely in societies with scarce environmental resources. It is believed to limit human population growth and enhance child survival [6, 7]. It is a rare form of marriage that exists among elite and peasant families [8].

For example, polyandry in the predominantly Buddhist Himalayan mountains is related to the scarcity of land. The marriage of all brothers in a family to the same wife allows family land to remain in the same family's hads undivided.

If every brother married separately and had children, family land would be split into unsustainably small plots.

In contrast, very poor persons who do not own land are less likely to practice polyandry in Buddhist India's Ladakh and Zanskar [6].

In Europe, the splitting up of land was prevented through the social practice of impartible inheritance. With most siblings disinherited, many of them became celibate monks and priests [9]. Buddhism seems to have had a better solution, though the vast majority of male and female Tibetan Buddhists at one time or other became Vajrayana monastics at least for some part of their lives. More

Bumbling Biden: Blue roofs don't burn

Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) cause fires in places like Hawaii?

Creepy Tik-Toks to cringe and rethink everything (Episode 276), reaction
(Eye Trek) Premiered Jan. 15, 2025: The genre of "creepy TikToks to keep us up at night" has a lot of great information presented in the dumbest way by dolts who seem all the same, know-nothings with no opinions but a desperate need for viewers to comment. However, the gathering of so many reports, issues, and precious photo evidence makes it so we have to suck it up with the downside and show it. In fact, it might be enough to only present these by different reactors/armchair observers like Perky et. al. This gentleman seems just the same as the others, but footage talks and reactions walk, so who are we to complain about presentation or useless mutterings interrupting the video clips?

What does roof color have to do with lasers heating up structures for arson?

Viral images claiming to showing the cause of the Maui fires are of something else, proving there's no such thing as DEWs
(WHAS11) Aug. 22, 2023: At least three viral images that appear to show directed energy weapon laser beams have spread across social media as purported evidence of the origins of the Maui fires. #lahaina #wildfires #fires. Read more: whas11.com/video/news/ver...

Directed Energy Weapon incinerates homes

Dry out forest with drought, wait for high winds, then hit it with DEW beam = Paradise lost.
.
If houses burn but not trees, is it a forest fire?
What were houses are now just heaps of white ash, but the trees are untouched by fire. How?
Magic trees that don't burn? They burn fine.
This is one of the most shocking pieces of citizen journalism ever produced.

Robert Brame, a forensic arborist (tree expert who specializes in analyzing forest fires, bug infestations, and other causes of tree decline or destruction), noticed unusual features of extensive forest fires in California. He decided to personally investigate.

His findings are beyond belief. And the evidence is undeniable: 90% of them were not "forest fires" at all.

If houses burn but trees do not, is it really a forest fire? (Rumble)
When is a fire not a fire? When it "dustifies."
They were caused by something that boiled water, melted metal and glass, burned cars and trucks that were nowhere near anything that set them on fire. This thing burned houses to the ground, disintegrating them to dust (as in the infamous anomaly known as the Camp Fire of 2018 that obliterated the town of Paradise, Butte County, California. Yet, it left all the trees standing.
  • A recent follow up to this story is news that many poorer people in the Americas are coating their roofs with blue paint, tarps, or anything they can get their hands on. If they do not, they fear becoming victims to the strange "fires" that break out but only destroy homes with ordinary roofs. All of those colored blue are spared. Explanation? The DEW (directed energy weapon), like an older photocopy machine, has a flaw in that it does not seem to pick up blue.
His conclusion, as shocking as it may be, is that the only thing that could create these anomalies is a directed-energy weapon.
Directed-energy weapons are known to have been developed by the U.S. and Chinese military. Seeing is believing.  The evidence is overwhelming.

Man creates paradise; war breaks out (Far Side)

RJ Garcia, AntsCanada, Jan. 14, 2024; Gary Larson, The Far Side (comics); Family Guy video still; Pfc. Sandoval, Dhr. Seven, and Kelly Ani (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
The apocalypse came and went for a new beginning.
When creating a new ecosystem, add all of the elements or step out of the way and let Nature do it because, when upset, things can go very bad, but Mother Nature knows how to get back to yin-yang homeostasis (Gary Larson/The Far Side).

An Ant War broke out after introducing water beasts into giant rainforest vivarium
One ant's hell is another's heaven.
(AntsCanada) In a giant cloud rainforest vivarium, called "Pantdora," an unexpected revival of an ant war broke out.

The trouble came after adding a team of aquatic creatures to the pond, which upset the current ecosystem.

To fix one problem, another was unexpectedly created.

What were the "sky gods" thinking?
The Creator [the god of this world, Lord RJ Garcia] was shocked to discover the truth about relations between three existing ant colonies within the vivarium; he watched an intense showdown of ants take place.

It opened his eyes to the chilling realities of invasive vs. native animal wars that occur in all ecosystems as organism compete for limited albeit recyclable resources and space.

I don't know. Gas entered the environment then blew up.

For God so loved the world that He gassed it.

Paradise Lost: fire consumes Maui, Hawaii

Pfc. Sandoval, Seth Auberon (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

"Apocalyptic scene": Out-of-control wildfire spreads on Hawaii's Maui Island
It's a very remote country state in drought.
(Tyler Durden) Aug. 9, 2023: Shocking footage of an out-of-control wildfire burning in Hawaii has been shared on Twitter, showing the devastation. The epicenter of the destruction is in the old Hawaiian town and former state capital of Lahaina on the island of Maui. 1,700 buildings have been destroyed. CBS News said, "People were jumping into the water to escape flames and smoke from a wind-fueled wildfire." Strong winds and dry conditions have been fueling the fire [turning it into a furnace reminiscent of Paradise, California]. As of early Wednesday local time, fires were active in Lahaina, Kula, North Kohala, and South Kohala. More
  • How do these things happen? Direct Energy Weapons (Dr. Judy Wood) deployed from the sky hit vulnerable areas when conditions will amplify the destruction. We'll have "climate change" and chaos one way or another, and if we cannot depend on nature, the military will do it (rense.com).

Out-of-control fire consumes parts of Maui, sending people into the water to escape
(Military.com) HONOLULU, Hawaii — Wind-whipped wildfires raced through parts of Hawaii on Wednesday, burning down businesses in a historic town on the island of Maui, forcing evacuations and leading some to flee to the relative safety of the ocean, where they were rescued by the Coast Guard.

Fire was widespread in Lahaina Town, including on Front Street, an area that is popular with tourists, County of Maui spokesperson Mahina Martin said by phone early Wednesday.

Maybe we shouldn't be living on these islands
Traffic has been very heavy as people try to evacuate, and officials asked people who weren’t in an evacuation area to shelter in place to avoid adding to the traffic, she said. Photos posted by the county overnight showed a line of flames blazing across an intersection in Lahaina and leaping above buildings in the town, whose historic district is on the National Register of Historic Places.

“Do NOT go to Lahaina Town,” the county tweeted hours before all roads in and out of West Maui’s biggest community were closed to everyone except emergency personnel. The National Weather Service said Hurricane Dora, which was passing to the south of the island chain at a safe distance of 500 miles (805 kilometers), was partly to blame for gusts above 60 mph (97 kph) that knocked out power, rattled homes and grounded firefighting helicopters.

Pres. Tulsi Gabbard would fix B.S. Obama Land
Dangerous fire conditions created by strong winds and low humidity were expected to last through Wednesday afternoon, the weather service said. The Coast Guard on Tuesday responded to areas where people had fled into the ocean to escape the fire and smoky conditions, the county said in a statement. More

Hippie Trail: Katmandu, drug paradise (video)

What were we looking for? Enlightenment. What did we find? Ganja-smoking Hindu sadhus.
Rock singer Bob Seger sang about Katmandu, whereas Led Zeppelin wrote a paean to Kashmir
(Hare Krishna Hare Ram) "Dum Maro Dum" (1971) In this Bollywood song about the detested hippies coming to India to smoke weed and worship Krishna devotionally like the Beatles, a brother searches everywhere for his hippie Indian sister who has fallen in with Western miscreants.

How the drug war destroyed a hippie paradise in Kathmandu
(ReasonTV) Sept. 13, 2019. Pres. Dick Nixon's pursuit of draft-dodgers and pot smokers fueled the communist ideology it was trying to contain.

In the 1970s, Richard "Tricky Dick" Nixon tried to nip "communism" in the bud by destroying Nepal's Himalayan hippie Shangri-La.

In stopping the pot smokers, he sparked a Maoist blowback. As the last country on earth to forbid the sale, cultivation, and consumption of drugs, Nepal promised a mind-bending trip.

Hippie trail from Europe to Central and E. Asia
But in an era when few could afford round-the-world airfare, frugal flower children took a rougher route to the most far-out destination on the planet: The Hippie Trail followed the footsteps of the ancient [Buddhist] Silk Road.

Some travelers fled the U.S. War on Vietnam draft; others came to the Himalayas to find themselves. For whatever the reason, from 1965 to 1973, tens of thousands of young people hitchhiked or bused the overland route from Istanbul, Turkey, to Kathmandu, Nepal, annually.

The end of The Hippie Trail was a single bustling urban lane called Jhonche, rechristened as Freak Street by its new colorfully dressed inhabitants.

Far Out: Countercultural...in Nepal
Over time, the Western hippies created their own community in Kathmandu. In a fascinating look at Nepal's hippie history, Mark Liechty, author of Far Out: Countercultural Seekers and the Tourist Encounter in Nepal, describes Freak Street as a Haight-Ashbury or Greenwich Village on the other side of the world.

Hippies lived in a fantasy Nepal that existed in their imaginations: a land where old [morals or] traditions did not apply, where they could live freely and create themselves anew.

A youth culture that was too shocking for 1960s North America found a welcome home in a faraway religious monarchy [nominally Hindu but very Vajrayana Buddhist].

But "paradise" is not of either side of this earth. Two years after Pres. Dick Nixon declared an international "war on drugs," U.S. Vice President Spiro Agnew was dispatched to Asia.

VP Agnew toured every country on The Hippie Trail before arriving in Nepal. Pres. Nixon threatened to withhold economic aid from countries that held a permissive attitude toward the drug trade.

Maoist rebels start Nepalese Civil War
Months later, Nepal enacted the first anti-drug laws in its ancient history. Kathmandu's hashish shops were closed. American narcotics agents roamed Freak Street, surveilling drug takers and draft dodgers for arrest on their arrival back in the United States.

And in a move that would have consequences for decades to come, Nepal's natural marijuana fields (where it grows freely for anyone to pick) were torched.

The hippies weren't the only ones angered by the new prohibition.

In Western Nepal, far from the capital city of Kathmandu, hashish cultivation (made from the sticky, oozing sap of budding cannabis flowers) was the main source of income.

Musk: Why was this ever illegal? (Joe Rogan)
Sellers and growers were arrested. Private property with strains of the hemp (Cannabis sativa) plant growing on it was forfeited to the state in a land grab using the drug war as its pretext.

Tens of thousands of farmers were pushed to the brink of starvation. Promised development aid to the region never arrived from outside or materialized from the monarch.

Seeing political opportunity in economic collapse, the Communist Party exploited local grievances and persuaded residents that only a violent overthrow of the oppressive royal government would solve their problems.

"Dum Maro Dum/Dam Maro Dam" Hare Krishna Hare Raam original song

Dick Nixon's global war on drugs fueled the communist ideology it was trying to contain. By 2006, the communist Maoists controlled 80 percent of the country. The insurgency based in the agricultural heartland had grown into a national political force that paralyzed the nation with a series of national strikes and armed resistance to the bad king.

After a decade-long civil war that claimed 17,000 lives, Nepal's monarchy was abolished and the Communist Party were elected to power.

Today, the civil war is long over, but Nepal's war on drugs continues. It remains a hub for heroin (derived from the naturally growing poppy plant) and hashish (cannabis resin), with stories of drug busts, addiction, and violence, mainstays of Nepal's TV news coverage.

Freak Street or Hippie Row still exists in Nepal
Despite a small political movement to legalize hashish, cannabis is legal one day a year for religious purposes only. The rest of the time, locals and tourists take their chances in the black market.

These days, the real action has moved to Thamel. A short walk from Freak Street, Kathmandu's new nightlife hotspot offers visitors every kind of indulgence that was available during Freak Street's heyday and many more that the hippies couldn't have imagined on their wildest trip.
