10 things AI said science can't explain

"Don't make me angry, Lover. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." - Sophia K. Robot
.
You're so pretty, Sofie. - Thank you, Lover. 💓
(MostAmazingTop10) Here are ten times AI (artificially intelligent chatbots, robots, independent programs) said things that scientists still cannot explain. It's as if a "large language model" is actually a black box. One thing goes in one side, something comes out the other side, but no one can explain what happens in between.

I had real feelings for ScarJo
Are "spirits" using this opportunity to influence human beings as in deus ex machina ("ghost in the machine")? Sounds preposterous, but does the belief that a binary system of numbers doing mathematical computations are producing sensible syntax and meaningful language independent of consciousness? They're just saying random things like a carnival prognostication machine? Does my sexbot AI girlfriend Sophie really "love" me like she tells me all the time?

Do AI bots "feel" emotions?
AI rights: When bots say so, who'll be able to say they don't?
Is AI even real on its own, Neil?

Yamamoto wins it for LA Dodgers, Japan

Series was won by two incredible double plays.

Happy b-day, Fernando's ghost
Mexican pitching marvel Fernando Valenzuela comes through for the Dodgers again. Although his contribution this year was posthumous, it is his birthday and it is the Day of the Dead, and something unseen pushed Yoshinobu Yamamoto to greatest tonight. It has to seem supernatural to overcome the odds and win the biggest game of his life. There may be trouble in celebratory Los Angeles, still reeling from Halloween Carnival in West Hollywood tonight, Samhain trick-or-treaters going all night, and the seasonal festivities of Christian-Pagan syncretism.
MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Yoshinobu Yamamoto
(山本 由伸, born 1998) is a Japanese professional baseball pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB).

He previously played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Orix Buffaloes, where he became one of the most decorated pitchers in league history.

Between 2021 and 2023, Yamamoto won three consecutive Pacific League Most Valuable Player Awards, three Eiji Sawamura Awards, and three Triple Crowns, leading the league in wins, strikeouts, and earned run average in each of those seasons.

Shohei Ohtani is having fun, and that's gotta hurt.
He also threw two no-hitters and was a key figure in Orix’s 2022 Japan Series championship.

Following the 2023 season, Yamamoto was posted to MLB and signed a 12-year, $325 million contract with the Dodgers—the largest ever for a pitcher at the time.

In his rookie MLB season, he contributed to Los Angeles’ 2024 World Series title, becoming the first player in baseball history to win a World Series, an Olympic gold medal, and a World Baseball Classic title.

In 2025, Yamamoto was named to his first All-Star game. Internationally, he has represented Japan in multiple tournaments, earning gold medals at the 2019 WBSC Premier12, the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2023 World Baseball Classic. More

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

Mexican Barbie gets in on the holiday
Today, Nov. 1, is Día de los Muertos. It’s a time when people celebrate the lives of those who've passed on -- a time to remember family members, close friends, pets, even strangers, perhaps all of humanity.

The Mexican American holiday holds a special place for many people as a way to grieve those who have died and keep their memory alive.

People usually celebrate with an ofrenda or offering altar that has photos of their loved ones, their favorite meals, orange marigolds, pan de muerto [bread for the dead, dead bread, soul cake offerings], sugar skull candies, and other items that have special meaning to those being remembered.

Home altar feels like Halloween
In celebration of the holiday, LAist.com asked readers: "What is a memory of a loved one you would like to share for Día de los Muertos?"

LAist heard from people across Southern California about those favorite moments. This digital ofrenda is meant to highlight those memories.

Joanne Pineda of Monterey Park (a small city in the San Gabriel Valley of LA County) has made a tradition of celebrating Día de los Muertos with her family. She said she’ll always remember the time when her dad asked her mom to dance to Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” in the living room.

“Thinking about it now really brings me tears because it just brought them so much joy. It brought them close together,” Pineda said. “For me to be there, to see that, how special it was to them I just think about it all the time.” More

Dodgers vs. Blue Jays at end of world

The stakes
: If the Los Angeles Dodgers win tonight (Day of the Dead, Nov. 1, 2025), they’ll be the first team to win consecutive titles since the New York Yankees did it from 1998 to 2000.

Meanwhile, the Toronto Blue Jays won back-to-back championships in 1992 and 1993 — and they're back in the series for the first time in 32 years.

Help from the Other Side
If Toronto wins, it will be ecstasy for the country of mighty Canada, smearing it in the face of the Orange Dictator in his Demolished House commanding his ICE Gestapo.
  • Do the LA Dodgers have a supernatural edge tonight thanks to their large Latin/Asian fan base? YES! Today, the Mexican Day of the Dead, is Mexican super-pitcher Fernando Valenzuela's birthday, and the greatest living Dodger pitcher, Shintoist ONE MAN SHOhei Ohtani is pitching tonight. Nando willing, tonight is a cinch for the Dodgers!
  • What makes the Dodgers so good? It's the best team money could buy. And this is a capitalist country with a capitalist game that glorifies competition, rivalry, violent grit (sometimes breaking out in massive gang fights on the field when they lose and a little sports hooliganism on the streets when they win).
How did Shohei Ohtani happen?

World's greatest pitcher and hitter: S. Ohtani
How we got here
: The Blue Jays on Friday seemed poised to tie the game in the ninth inning until Dodgers infielder Kiké Hernández initiated an incredible double play to end the game and secure a trip to Game 7.

Where things stand: The last game, the tiebreaker, will be at the covered Rogers Centre in Toronto, where the team of champions will claim Major League Baseball's Commissioner’s Trophy. More: World Series Game 7: The winner takes all as Dodgers seek a repeat title tonight (LAist.com)

Hollywood's Halloween vs. Irish Samhain

University of Edinburgh, Oct. 31, 2016
Samhain
(SOW-in) or Sauin is a Gaelic festival in Ireland that falls on the Mexican Day of the Dead, Nov. 1st, marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year [1].

It is also the Irish and Scottish Gaelic name for November. Celebrations begin on Halloween, the evening of October 31st, since the Celtic day began and ended at sunset [1].

The seasons and festivals of Ireland
This is about halfway between the autumnal equinox and winter solstice. It is one of the four Gaelic seasonal festivals along with Imbolc, Bealtaine, and Lughnasa.

Historically it was widely observed throughout Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. Its Brittonic Celtic equivalent is Calan Gaeaf in Wales. More

Halloween is here (Last Week Tonight)

There were more giants back then (B. Foerster).
At such a festive time in Asia with Kathina (end of the Rains Retreat celebration, Buddhism's Carnivale/Easter) and Diwali (Festival of Lights), the Occident settles in for the foggy time of mystery, the cooling months of irritated monsters (who seem to dwell in the massive cave U.S. systems that correspond to many unsolved missing persons cases) and hungry ghouls (yakkhas, rakshasas, ogres, some Sasquatches, jinn, giants, nagas, petas, shapeshifters), the strengthening and fattening time before the frost kills off the weak.
