The earthquake was centered near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, and shook buildings from New Jersey and New York City and Westchester to Philadelphia and Connecticut. It could be felt as far south as Washington, D.C., and as far north as Maine (on the border with Canada), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Several weaker aftershocks were also reported in the hours following the initial quake, including one measuring 4.0 magnitude centered near Gladstone, New Jersey, Friday evening, according to preliminary data from the USGS.
There were no reports of injuries or major damage following the initial quake.
"There is a low likelihood of casualties and damage," according to the USGS.
"I felt like there was a roller coaster under my house going 1,000 miles an hour," Carol Nicolaidis of Brooklyn, New York, told ABC News. "I first thought pipes were exploding under my house."
"I was sitting in my living room, and I saw the walls shaking; it felt like a wave," she said.
"It felt like a subway train running under the couch," said Rocco Pietropola, who was in an eighth-floor Manhattan apartment.
This was the strongest quake in the greater New York City metro area since 1884, according to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.
Con Edison said there are no reports of outages, and the MTA said there was no service disruption to New York City's subway system. More + VIDEO

Karma works (itself out) in mysterious ways. Those who act together sometimes even experience the results together. Why does anyone win the lottery?
Back in December, the tiny Spanish village of Sodeto collectively won a major stake in the annual $950 million Spanish national lottery. Today, the village of farmers and construction workers is enjoying a minimum payout of $130,000 per resident. And yet for all of the new wealth making its way around Sodeto, one villager came away empty-handed. Costis Mitsotakis, a Greek filmmaker who moved to the village for a woman, is the only resident of Sodeto who did not purchase a ticket. Mitsotakis says he is no longer with the woman and now lives in a barn he is restoring just outside the village:
Mr. Mitsotakis said it would have been nice to win. But he has benefited nonetheless. He had been trying to sell some land without much success. The day after the lottery a neighbor called to say he would buy it. The next day another neighbor called. But Mr. Mitsotakis refused to get into a bidding war. "This is a small village," he said. "You don't want bad feelings." More
BEIJING (March 10, 2011) — An earthquake struck China's extreme southwest near the border with Burma Thursday, killing at least 22 people and injuring more than 200. Witnesses reported that a supermarket and a hotel had partially collapsed in the magnitude 5.8 earthquake, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Xinhua said there were reports that people had been buried under debris and that the tremor had caused a power outage across Yingjiang. The agency said there had been three aftershocks, measuring up to 4.7 degrees on the Richter Scale, within 10 minutes.
The cause is HAARP. It's caused by the heating of the ionsphere with radio and microwave radiation. It is not a "natural" phenomenon, but something quite manmade.

CBSNewsOnline (April 14, 2010) — 400 dead, 10,000 injured in 6.9 quake in the western Qinghai province. Huge rescue operation underway. Peter Sharp reports from Beijing.
(WQ) There has been a dramatic increase in the frequency of large quakes (greater than 6.0). The question is, Why is this happening? Is it natural, 2012, "bad karma," God's whimsy, random chance? We present that there is nothing natural or random about it. This is war technology being experimented with. America of course was the first (and only) country ever to use atomic bombs on human beings, mainly civilian. Now it is leading the way in HAARP technology. As the Buddha explained thousands of years ago, earthquakes are due to eight causes. Their principal cause is explained in terms of agitating the atmosphere. How can the atmosphere be intentionally agitated?
Bizarre iridescent, luminous phenomena in the sky observed (recorded by cell phone) minutes before the Chinese earthquake (Sichuan, May 12, 2008) -- recorded in Tianshui, Gansu province, roughly 450 km northeast of the epicenter (Source, Map).

Before consider-ing such questions let's revisit the traditional view. This perspective holds that we are reborn into this Samsara due to past karma (not that the Buddha ever used the term "past karma" in this traditional sense). Through choices, we con-stantly reinvent ourselves within a system governed by ignorance, craving, and clinging.
Applied to the 9/11 crimes, we might observe that through very ordinary human pursuits, many tens of thousands of people chose to be in the WTC on September 11th.
Things in this world have their causal lineages and we may be connected with them somehow, more or less. We need not, however, assume close connections. Sometimes the connection has just happened and is not necessarily due to previous direct connections.
