It's time to man up, be more American!

(The Jimmy Dore Show) What is the DONroe Doctrine?

So it's been you not me? - It's been us, Don.
I have a new favorite song, well, more of a spontaneous chant whenever my government does something powerful and in line with being the inheritor of the Roman Empire. We are what Rage Against the Machine tried to call The Evil Empire. And that song/chant is, "USA, USA, USA!" I just keep yelling it around guys as we dry hump each other, cry, and raise fists for the military, God, country, patriotism, and Zionist Christian Nationalism. Oh, and apple pie and our moms. Therefore, if Trump attacked Venezuela, killed many to abduct their leader, and is preparing to make a Banana Republic of it and steal its oil, already having forgotten all that drug trafficking pretext, we can only patriotically conclude...they must have had it coming. Why? USA, USA, USA!

Help wanted creating Ekaterina Sky's mural

Fellow Los Angeles Fire victims, navigating through Altadena and seeing murals on some of the remaining walls is encouraging. From the ashes of our communities, people are offering art as visual support.

Wisdom Quarterly is inviting artist Ekaterina Sky, who once had a studio in Lincoln Heights, to form a group (art collective) to adorn another wall.

She envisions people affected by the fire coming together to set intentions for Los Angeles and the planet and create a mural.

This is to express loss and instill a sense of wonder and hope, bringing community together to envision a new world.

The Buddha: Where did we come from?

The Buddha’s answer to WHERE WE COME FROM | Buddhist origin story on beginnings
Science and Buddhism agree
(Buddha's Wisdom) March 30, 2025: šŸ” WHAT IF WE FELL INTO OUR PHYSICAL BODIES? What if we weren't born into a body but fell into one? An ancient Buddhist text called the AggaƱƱa Sutta (DN 27) describes space beings of pure light who once floated about freely through space until they alighted on earth, devolved, and developed something we all struggle with today — sensual craving or desire (tanha). That first craving for sensual pleasure began our descent into increasingly dense physical form, creating humans bound by the very cravings that landed us here and kept us stuck in the quagmire of craving, karma, and karmic results. DISCOVER:
  • How the Buddha taught that consciousness preceded physical form, not the other way around
  • The striking parallels between Buddhist cosmology and modern scientific theories
  • Why a human birth is considered extraordinarily rare as the Buddha taught
  • The unexpected connection between desire and the densification of our physical bodies
  • How understanding our origins can transform our approach to spiritual practice today

The Buddha's Creation Story: Myth as History and Inspiration
(Doug's Dharma) Should ancient stories be looked at as historical myths or as inspirational literature? Thus have I heard. The Exalted One (the Buddha) was once staying near Sāvatthī, in the East Park, inside the mansion of Migāra's Mother. Now at that time Vāseṭṭha and Bhāradvāja were passing their probationary period among the wandering ascetics, wishing to become fully ordained Buddhist monks.

Then in the evening the Exalted One, having arisen from his meditations, came down, and was walking back and forth in the open air, in the shade of the mansion. When Vāseṭṭha saw this, he told Bhāradvāja, adding:

“Let's go, friend Bhāradvāja, let's approach the Exalted One, because we might have the good fortune to hear from the Exalted One a talk on matters of Dhamma (Doctrine)."

“Even so, friend," Bhāradvāja replied. So Vāseį¹į¹ha and Bhāradvāja approached the Exalted One and, having saluted him, they walked behind him as he walked back and forth. Then the Exalted One said:

“Vāseį¹į¹ha, being Brahmin (brahmana) by birth and family lineage, have gone forth from a Brahmin family and home into the left-home life of a wandering ascetic (sramana), do the other Brahmins blame and revile you?

“Venerable sir, yes, indeed, Brahmins do blame and revile us with characteristic abuse, copious, not holding back."

“Vāseį¹į¹ha, with what words do they blame you?

“Venerable sir, Brahmins say: 'The Brahmin caste is the best.... Only Brahmins are genuine children of Brahmā, born of Brahma's mouth, offspring of Brahmā, created by Brahmā, heirs of Brahmā. As for you, you have renounced the best human rank and have gone over to that low class — to shaven recluses, to the vulgar [nouveau-riche] rich, to those of dark skins, to those born of Brahma's feet. In these terms, venerable sir, do Brahmins blame and revile us with characteristic abuse, copious, not holding back....

"Vāseį¹į¹ha, surely those Brahmins have forgotten the past (ancient lore) when they say so? On the contrary, Brahmin females, wives of Brahmins, are known to be fertile, are seen to be pregnant with child, bringing forth and nursing children. Yet, it is these very [human] womb-born Brahmins who say such things… 'Brahmins are genuine children of Brahmā, born from his mouth; his offspring, his creation, and his heirs'! By this they make a travesty of the nature of Brahmā. It is false what they say, and great is the demerit that they thereby earn." More (suttacentral.net)

(Inner) Peace Class weekly on Zoom

Friends, Peace Class meets every Wednesday night on Zoom and starts at 6:00 pm (Pacific Time). Join a Zoom meeting. Share link with friends. All are welcome at Peace Class. The most recent peace talk was delivered at last week's class:

Inner peace and World Peace
I was thinking, Where does peace begin?
Inner peace is World Peace that one person experiences first before the world feels it.

Inner peace is World Peace happening locally, radiating globally.

Inner peace is World Peace that one person has just grown in the garden of oneself.

Inner peace is World Peace. We call peace “World Peace” when enough people are experiencing individual peace and flowing it into the collective consciousness so that the peace experience becomes the common experience in society. But before profound peace is the most common experience, it's a notable if unusual individual experience. We call this “inner peace” because we are not yet in a world where profound peace permeates everyone's experience all the time. We can see the contrast between the inner peace we are feeling and the lack of peace that many others are feeling. For now, inner peace is still an unusual experience. It is not yet World Peace.

It is “still” this way because experienced peace will be the baseline experience for all beings eventually. But for those of us who were born in the Era of Belligerence, an experience of inner peace will most likely be something we must cultivate — something we move into and out of over the course of a day, week, or year.

When many (consider the 100th monkey theory) have brought forth their own peacefulness, collective peace will begin to manifest. First it will be experienced by small pockets of humanity. Then it will spread out into the surrounding areas.

Imagine being in a swimming pool and adding a drop of food coloring. The water will reflect that new color most strongly where the coloring was first placed, but eventually it will be incorporated more widely. It cannot help but spread. It will first make itself powerfully apparent locally.

Peace works this way.

One person in an experience of peace sends the flow of that peace into the collective consciousness, and it enters the collective at the precise point where that person is situated. One's peace begins a collective consciousness of peace, first locally then more widely. It can be felt most potently locally, where it is most concentrated.

World Peace begins as inner peace experienced by one person, two people interacting, or a group directly impacting one another. It eventually spreads into the collective, which is a term for all of their indirect contacts or all the people we impact without being aware of it.

World Peace is a result, not a cause; it comes last. Inner peace is a cause of World Peace and a result of it just as a stone cascading makes a sound that keeps reverberating every time it newly impacts a surface.

Eventually, experienced peace is the standard, the common experience. Then individuals are able to build on that standard, that foundation of peace. When there is standard peace, what will we see? Flowing creativity. Self-actualization. Self-exploration. New collaborations. New forms of art. New inventions — acts of genius. That's what's waiting for us when we arrive at World Peace.

We think of World Peace as the end of war. But in that state of generalized inner peace, war will not begin. Generalized peace will look like the absence of war to those who lived before during the Era of Belligerence. But for those who were born in the Age of Peace, it will look like flowing creativity, inventiveness, collaboration, artmaking, inspiration, and flowing ideas. It won't look like the end of war because war will sound so odd — such a strange thing for anyone to choose — that war will simply seem like a historical curiosity, the way we now think of outdated medical practices such as bloodletting. We look back at bloodletting and think, Why would one think becoming healthier is achieved by purposely losing blood? What a strange thing to do! What a strange way to treat one's body. Why would anyone ever do that? We look at bloodletting as a historical curiosity — as a marker of how things were at a peculiar moment in history, a time when humans were doing the best they could but were living in confusion that led to certain aberrations we now see clearly and would never choose today. That's how war will appear to us. We will look at it as a marker of a particularly strange time in human history.

From a peaceful mindset, we will not judge ourselves, or previous humans, for what they did not yet understand; we will have compassion for ourselves and for others. Knowing more, we will not again choose that which does not serve us.

War is a marker of a time in our development. It is an indicator of where we are in our evolution. The lower mind wants to know the answer to this question: Is war bad or good? The higher mind is so loving, so peaceful, that it does not judge. It simply says, War indicates that a society is very early in its development. We will know that we have evolved, we will know that we carry more peace, when we do not choose war — when we find that we, as individuals, simply would never choose to harm another person.

We will know that we have evolved when we look at the practice of harming another and find it puzzling. We will think, Why would anyone ever do that? It simply won't make sense. We will think, I'd never choose to hurt someone; I respect everyone here too much. I wouldn't chop down my own beloved house; I wouldn't throw away a cherished gift. And I wouldn't harm anyone, as everyone brings something valuable to the collective; everyone bears a gift, and therefore everyone is a gift.

We look at a loving world, a world where there are no skirmishes between individuals, a world where there is no violence, and we call what we see “World Peace” — and to us that means The End of All War. But it won't feel like the Age of No War, except to those who began their lives in the Era of Belligerence. It will feel like the Age of Inspiration, the Age of Creativity, the Age of Invention, the Age of Innovation. It will be the Age of Feeling Just Right, the Age of So Much to Get Out of Bed to Experience. It will be the Age of What Can I Build Next.

When we are in the Age of Peace, we will see it for what it is, not for what it isn't — not the contrast to what came before.

Only by living in peace will we truly understand its nature.

We do not call our time the Age of No Bloodletting. We don't notice what isn't there so much as we notice what is here. That's how we'll feel in the Age of Peace. We'll notice how good it feels to express ourselves, to be creative, to be full of innovative ideas. We'll notice how good our own kindness feels whether expressed towards ourselves or others. And the idea of not feeling these things will seem strange to us. We will think, What would possess anyone to treat another cruelly when expressing kindness feels so good and cruelty feels so terrible? Why would anyone choose to act in a way that feels terrible? What a strange way to live!

Those who feel called to build inner peace even as they are living in the Era of Belligerence are getting a preview of coming attractions. They're getting a taste of what will one day be the standard. But they're also seeding a world where one doesn't need to cultivate inner peace because it has become the standard. One only needs to choose what to focus into existence by way of one's already peaceful, already connected self. For that reason, the Age of Peace will also be the Age of Choice; all will have the freedom to concentrate on what they enjoy doing rather than spending their primary energy creating safety for themselves and making sure their basic needs are met.

Some of us in the Era of Belligerence already carry the perspective that will be common in the Age of Peace. Such people might look around at their society and think, How do I get out of here?

One “gets out of here” by building a future from where one is moving in the present.

One builds the Age of Peace by building inner peace. One builds peace for oneself in whatever increments one can and is grateful for whatever slivers of peace one can experience. One lingers in appreciation of peace whenever it arrives. One revels in the feeling of peace and thinks about what one loves about peace and speaks of the joys of peace and does what brings one more peace. That's how one builds the Age of Peace before it is here. This is how one gifts the Age of Peace to everyone.

If only Buddhism had anything to contribute to a discussion about peace
How can we cultivate inner peace?
Passaddhi
, in the Buddha's language, the ancient lingua franca of Pali, is a noun (Brahminical Sanskrit prasrabhi, Tibetan ཤིན་ą½ུ་སྦྱང་ą½–་, Wylie shin tu sbyang ba) that has been translated as "calmness," "tranquility," "repose," and "serenity" [1]. It is inner peace.

The associated verb is passambhati (to calm down, to quieten) [2]. In Buddhism, passaddhi refers to tranquility of body, speech, and mind (thoughts, consciousness on the path to enlightenment).

As part of the cultivatable mental factors, passaddhi is preceded by "rapture" or "joy" or "bliss" (pīti) and precedes profound stillness (samādhi).

Passaddhi is identified as a wholesome factor in the following canonical contexts:
Pali canon references
In various Buddhist canonical schema, the calming of the body, speech, and various mental factors is associated with gladness (pāmojja, pāmujja), rapture (pīti), and pleasure or happiness (sukhaṃ) and leads to the stillness (and effortless concentration) needed for release from pain and suffering (dukkha). Channeled guidance from Bashar

WARNING: Is "Bashar" right? We do not know. Ask Darryl Anka, his channel. As when "Seth" speaks or "Abraham" advises, we ourselves must judge and decide.

What is the way? Shall we follow our bliss, like Abraham-Hicks says of the Law of Attraction? Are we to follow our feelings and heart...maybe our reason and head? Is it the Law of Vibration? What is the way of manifestation?

All asking, none knowing. All talking, none showing. All searching, none finding, traveling roads that go on winding. Channel Darryl Anka seems so passionate and sure.

The experience of our physical reality is mediated by our thoughts and views, our cognitive labels and feeling tone. Our response matters more than the world or universe that provokes us. Life is 51% response to 49% things that happen. Maybe what happens is the result of our previous karma, but what it (the results) will mean is yet to be determined, discerned, designated?

The road opened up before me. The Universe said, "Not this way" but did not seem to say which way then. Who or what was that up to? Might I choose? Did I fail to see the signs? Whither go I? Which way is "right"?

The Dharma knows all. The Buddha articulated a path (of practice) to bring about realization. Is it in line with what Bashar is saying? How about Galactica and Abraham-Hicks? Who can say, who can say when it can be any way?

The simulation seems adaptable. Now what? It's always the now. That means it's ours to choose. But we know not which way this leads or that -- so what to do? What is the guide?

I know, I'll call 888-CALL PSYCHICS and they can tell me for as much as $9.99 a minute or more. There was also that mysterious lady at the palm reading shop at the pier. And there's Aunt Lucy the Slatanic seance meister who listens to Slayer while prognosticating futures. Cash only.

Year End Yoga Party, Sacred Ritual

WHAT HAPPENED?
Sign up here: Kinship Yoga Studios
We convened, got raffle tickets, placed potluck items on a table, reviewed the silent auction objects on offer, and settled in for the hailing of the Four Directions by Araceli in Native American tradition, with a conch shell trumpet and palo santo incense. Then we journaled a letter to ourselves to be opened in six months, the summer to come, sharing a small part of it with the whole group as we got in touch with a vision of nature and a sacred animal. Very New Age. Then the Sanskrit chanting began, accompanied by bongos, a spaceship like percussive instrument, and harmonium, in call-and-response kirtan. This was followed by the raffle, with a free ticket going to anyone who brought a potluck item. The prizes were in the $50 to $180 range, donated by local merchants supporting Yoga Gives Back and Ambassador Stella. Everyone got two hugs and we met eyes with another person, all designed to get people out of their shells and into the social community. Many females pranced about in skimpy yoga gear, laughing, making new friends. Then we feasted and had mocktails, hot chocolate, fresh persimmon juice, exotic teas from the Tea Bar, as well as soft drinks. This was followed by effusive sharing by anyone who wanted to say something, as we moved to the gift exchange blanket. Participants were encouraged to donate a gift for it, which everyone could see. Then items were chosen, infused with good mojo as the items got handed to the left and arrived at the designated chooser.

Yoga New Year: 108 Sun Salutations (1/1)
(This means everyone ended up with a gift, and some with more than one. The owner, Ryan and his young daughter, Louisa (the youngest teacher the studio has ever produced), were on hand. It was all handshakes, hugs, and even some yoga jokes. (Yoga jokes? A hippie is standing in front of a yoga studio and the owner says, "Man, you gotta leave." The hippie replies, "Nah, Man, 'amastay," you know, which sounds like "Namaste." Dumb as it might sound, it got a great laugh because up until tonight, no one knew there were such things as "yoga jokes." Not to be outdone, Ryan the owner said the place wasn't always going to be called "Kinship." He toyed with the idea of naming "Om Depot." That also got a great laugh). Hugs, kisses, number exchanged, and some people lingered to chat after four straight hours of spiritual fun and frolicking. It was a great time. And we were all reminded that in three short days, it's the 108 Sun Salutations Yoga Challenge in the same room at noon.

Event details

New students, Kingship, Highland Park
Sacred Ceremony creates a sacred space to honor life’s journey and our relationships with all beings. Through culturally respectful rituals and shared intentions, we cultivate a collective vision of peace for the New Year. Our gathering includes a series of meaningful activities to inspire growth, healing, and connection:
  • Smudging with white sage
Purify and cleanse personal energy through the sacred practice of smudging. Using the smoke of white sage (Salvia apiana), we clear away negative energies and create an open space for healing, renewal, and positive transformation.
  • Journaling activity
We take a moment to reflect on our journey and set powerful intentions for the year ahead. Answer a few curated questions to guide reflection, focusing on what we wish to release and what we want to invite into our life.
  • Sacred chanting
Together, we chant sacred Sanskrit mantras, uniting our voices and hearts in harmony. This collective vibration invokes peace, healing, and strength, setting a powerful intention for the New Year ahead.
  • Gift-Giving Blanket

History (Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz)
Inspired by Native American traditions, the Gift-Giving Blanket invites us to bring a gift to share with the community. After laying a gift down on the blanket, everyone will have the opportunity to choose a gift brought by someone else. (No need to purchase any gifts; we encourage to recycle from our own possessions to lighten our load). Gifts can be new or gently used items. All are welcome — whether or not bringing a gift to share.

Yoga Gives Back is a non-profit organization that supports women and children in India, providing educational opportunities and micro-loans to help them build sustainable lives. Stella Han is an ambassador for YGB and will lead this fundraiser. Contribute directly to the cause via Stella’s fundraising portal:
Alternatively, donations can be made via Venmo: @stella_han_yoga. Please include “YGB” in the comment section along with an email and phone number. (All personal contact information is only visible to Stella Han). Cash or checks are accepted as well.
  • Veggie potluck

What is there to eat? Compassionate veggie food
Bringing food is optional, but to contribute, please email Stella (the coordinator and organizer) at stellaheartyoga@gmail.com with details of the dish you plan to bring. All dishes must be vegan or vegetarian. Please also include an ingredient card next to the dish for transparency so diners can avoid allergens like gluten (wheat, barley, rye, oats, buckwheat, all of which contain their own form of this popular toxin that destroys the cilia of the gut lining and results in malabsorption and eventual malnutrition). All contributors to the potluck will receive 3 raffle tickets. Please mention to host about contribution to ensure receiving the raffle tickets.

  • Attire
What about New Year's Eve?
Dress warmly and comfortably. If feeling inspired, festive or spiritual white attire is optional as we gather to celebrate and set intentions for the New Year with a clean slate. We look forward to coming together in community, celebration, and giving.

Livestream: Watch Burning of The Man

Orgy? Dust? Rain? The Burning Man Journal (with the Buddha's Fire Sermon)

How do we get to Burning Man? Driving directions, gas stops on the way to the playa (MSN)

I was just leaving…no trace | Burning Man
Every year, tens of thousands of counterculture “Burners” make the journey to Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for the weeklong Burning Man festival.

But for those who haven't made the trip themselves or haven't heard of the event until now, here’s a quick rundown for what to know about Burning Man.
"The Man" stands alone in the Black Rock Desert. After watching over Black Rock City during the Burning Man event, pyrotechnicians ignite and burn The Man (Trevor Hughes/USA TODAY 2023).
How to watch: 2024 Burning Man livestream
Hey, maybe this year we should burn "Traylor" (Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey) in effigy?
I totally want to go. shake it off, get naked, dance to a sick beat, but it's Travis, he's too scared.
.
What if Swift attended?
Burning Man began Aug. 24, 2024, but no one has to go there to get a glimpse of the playa ("beach"). A live webcast is broadcasting the annual festival 24 hours a day through the finale on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024.

For most of the time, the camera is pointed at the wooden effigy at the center of Burning Man. The link can be found on Burning Man's website at burningman.org/live-webcast. More:
