Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵, circa 1583–June 13, 1645) [2] was a Japanese artist (who painted Hotei/Budai below watching a cockfight), swordsman, strategist, and writer who became renowned through Zen stories of his unique double-bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record in his 62 duels [3, a].
He is considered a kensei ("sword saint") of Japan [4]. He was the founder of the Niten Ichi-ryū (or Nito Ichi-ryū) style of swordsmanship.
In his final years, Miyamoto Musashi authored The Book of Five Rings (五輪の書, Go Rin No Sho) and Dokkōdō (獨行道, The Path of Aloneness).
Both documents were bequeathed to Terao Magonojō, Miyamoto Musashi's most important student, seven days before Musashi's death.
On the one hand, The Book of Five Rings [b] focuses on the character of his Niten Ichi-ryū school in a concrete sense, his own practical martial art and its generic significance.
On the other hand, The Path of Aloneness deals with the ideas that lie behind it, as well as his life's philosophy in a few short aphoristic sentences. More
(ABC7 News) Los Angeles is a former city in the country of Mexico, like so much of what is now the Southwestern United States of America, so we love Mexico's win! Mexico's actual name is not Mexico but the United Mexican States (Estados Unidos Mexicanos), and it seems we the USA stole the name from them. The U.S. may one day have to become the United American States or "West England" or "European Colony 14" or revert to its original name "Columbia" after the titular goddess (and before old Uncle Sam shoved her aside for the patriarchy's propaganda war campaign), as in "District of Columbia" for its capital (which is technically outside the country) Washington, D.C.
(KODEN OBSCURE) May 26, 2026: Zen Wisdom: Been struggling to break a bad habit for years and feel like it's losing battle using willpower?
Many of us are fighting a war we were never meant to wage. In this video, we explore a profound piece of wisdom from the Japanese monastic tradition: Zen monks never fight their habits.
Instead of using force, they use intelligent design. Discover the five unusual and quiet methods used in Zen monasteries to redirect energy, change environments, design time, and observe urges without judgment.
Learn why treating our mind with patience rather than going to war with it is the ultimate secret to lasting freedom. What this video covers:
Why willpower almost always fails in the long run
The "replacement gesture" and how to redirect energy
How breaking the spatial anchor of a room can instantly stop an urge

Viva Las Vegas. Nevada is the only U.S. state where prostitution is legally permitted in some form. Prostitution is legal in 10 of Nevada's 17 counties, although only six allow it in every municipality.
Six counties have at least one active brothel, which mainly operate in rural, isolated areas [1].
The state's most populated counties, Clark (where Las Vegas is) and Washoe (which contains Reno), are among those that do NOT permit prostitution. But they do permit "escorts" that may trick tourists into believing they are accessing legal prostitution.
It is also illegal in Nevada's capital, Carson City, an independent city. The vast majority of prostitution in Nevada takes place illegally in the metropolitan areas of Las Vegas and Reno.
About 66 times more money is spent by customers on illegal prostitution in Nevada than in the regulated brothels [2]. More

Beginner's Mind (Japanese 初心 or shoshin) is a concept from Zen Buddhism. It means it's better to have an attitude of openness, eagerness, and lack of expectations or preconceptions when practicing meditation and exploring Dharma. Even at an advanced level, approach Truth as a beginner would.
Beginner's Mind is especially used in the study of Zen Buddhism and Japanese martial arts [1]. It became popular outside Japan because of Shunryū Suzuki's book Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind.
The practice of shoshin acts as a counter to the hubris and closed-mindedness often associated with thinking of oneself as an adept or expert [2].
When we let ourselves think we know everything, we leave no room for surprises, but reality is full of surprises.
For example, in the Einstellung Effect, a person becomes so accustomed to a certain way of doing things that s/he does not consider or acknowledge new ideas or approaches [3], such as thinking outside the box. Like let's say someone asks you, "Who are YOU?"
One more TikTok, hookup, sext, hit of dopamine
"I'm me," you say. Then this exchange takes place:
"You're not who you think you are."
"I'm who other people think I am."
"No, you're not even that."
"But, but, what else is there? If I'm not who I think I am, and I'm not who others think I am, do I just not exist?"
"No, you are who you think others think you are."
"Oh, yeah, because we're social creatures, right? There's always that [performative] factor of being watched, even if we only think we're being watched."
"Something like that."
"Ah, what do you know?"
"Hey, at least I got you to think outside the box, realize it's not binary -- a this or that, thesis or antithesis. There's often a synthesis, an interaction, a third or fourth option not thought of within the confines of the assumptions surrounding the question."
"Oh, yeah, huh?"
"Monkey."
The word shoshin combines sho (Japanese 初, "beginner" or "initial") and shin (Japanese 心, "mind" or "heart") [4], which is not necessarily the brain but the intuition, knowing, heart, or the ability to discern. More

(KTLA 5) Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025: KTLA's Jillian Smukler speaks to Dodgers fans the morning after the team's big win. Did the "Boys in Blue" do it or what? - What? - "What"? - Yes, this is still a PC California town. They're not the BiB. - They're not? What are they? They are the Persons in Periwinkle, and don't forget it! - The PiP? What kind of LGBTQIA+ PCcarp is that? That's not going to go over too well at the giant victory parade and Dodger Stadium rally/merch bazaar.
Victory parade and Dodger Stadium Celebration Monday morning
The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again World Series champions, earning back-to-back titles last night with their backs to the wall, the first time it's been done in a quarter century.
Next come the official celebrations. Los Angeles' team will host a victory parade Monday morning, followed by a ticketed rally at Dodgers Stadium. Tickets on sale noon Sunday.
The Big Parade
The victory parade route, DTLA
WHEN: Monday, starting at 11:00 am.
ROUTE: Starting point is Temple Street and Broadway Avenue in downtown (DTLA). Then the parade will move from Temple St. to Grand Ave. to 7th St., then to Figueroa St.
CLOSURES: Fans are being urged and strongly advised to take public transit (Metro) because of street closures, impossible traffic, and very limited public parking.
The big Dodger Stadium rally
Birthday Ghost: Valenzuela
It's one or the other. A ticketed event is planned after the parade -- with food, entertainment, and plenty of World Series merchandise, Shohei Ohtani tee-shirts, Yoshinobu Yamamoto jerseys, commemorative plastic tchotchkes.
The parade will be streamed on the giant scoreboards while the crowd waits for the team to arrive from the victory parade route through DTLA.
Due to street closures, fans will only be able to attend either the parade or the stadium celebration. No exceptions.
WHEN: Parking gates for stadium event will open at 8:30 am, and the stadium gates will open at 9:00 am.
PAID PARKING: Parking will be limited. Fans are encouraged to purchase parking with event tickets that go on sale at noon Sunday. Fans who do not purchase parking with their event tickets will need to show their purchased tickets at the auto gates to enter the parking lot.
HOW TO GET TICKETS: Tickets for the stadium rally go on sale at noon Sunday:
NOTE: The team says club and hospitality areas will be different from regular Dodgers games at the rally: The Dugout Club will have a lighter continental breakfast menu. Baseline Club will not include any food and beverage access. It will be the same for Home Run Seats. Stadium Club will not be opening either.
Los Angeles is on edge and ready to riot if their team the beloved Dodgers fail to win Game 6. It's Devils' Night in WeHo (West Hollywood), home of the Halloween Carnivale, a night of LGBTQI+ revelry and possible debauchery, although this year they have shortened it by an hour so that it ends long before midnight, the Witching Hour. The keiki (children) are dodging cars on the suburban streets of the megalopolis as they run their culturally-approved shakedown for dopamine hits via sugary candies all across LA's 88 cities and countless neighborhoods.
The great Japanese pitcher will start Game 6, and with so much at stake, Dodger fans have to wonder if the stars are aligned. Avoid gambling. It's rigged. The fix is in. It's an emotional rollercoaster ride.
