Imagine a privileged life so tragic there's nothing left to do but attend big alt rock festivals, dance to EDM, and get blitzed with friends doing nothing with their lives but going to school and working for The Man. (BBC News) March 28, 2025: A huge 7.7 magnitude earthquake has hit central Burma (Myanmar) with aftershocks, tremors, and damage felt in Thailand and south-west China. The epicenter was located 10 miles (16 km) north-west of the city of Sagaing, Burma, at a depth of 10 km, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) says. Videos show cracks in roads in Burma's new capital Naypyidaw (moved by the totalitarian government from Rangoon/Yangon) and people evacuating into the street in Thailand’s capital Bangkok.

The November 3rd, 2023, earthquake in Buddhist Nepal killed 153 people and injured 170 in two rural districts, Rukum and Jajakot. The worst quake since 2015, it damaged or leveled more than 5,000 homes.

Days later, aftershocks killed three more residents. The earthquake caused landslides, which blocked roads, according to Jajarkot police.

When that 5.6-magnitude quake hit Nepal this month, Himalayan Café owner Kapil Adhikari knew he had to act.

He started a GoFundMe with a goal of $20,000 to help his home country via Himalayan Helping Hand, which provides aid to those affected by the tragedy. The charity is offering supplies like blankets, first-aid kits and other necessities.

So far, Himalayan Café has collected nearly $2,458.00 through gofund.me/bb540b64. Besides the GoFundMe, Himalayan Café has a donation box in its lobby at 36 S. Fair Oaks Avenue, Pasadena.

“Nepal is a beautiful country, with natural beauty and a lot of green,” said Adhikari, who has lived in California since 2004.

“Politically, it’s horrible right now. The country is poor, but it’s beautiful. Right now, I’m going back and forth to help the people who are like me, who want to live a better life. It’s a little part of Nepal, but we’d really like to help them.” News | pasadenaweekly.com
