Scientists just made TIME run backward

Social psychologists know time is mutable.
(Julia McCoy) Jan. 19, 2026: Scientists (physicists) just made time run BACKWARD (and this changes everything about reality). Their experiments are presumably objective because they are repeatable and scalable, as published in Nature Physics.
COMMENTARY
Editors, Wisdom Quarterly
Big deal! - What do you mean? This is the most tremendous scientific advancement of our lives! - I could do the same thing. - You're crazy! You couldn't even get your hands on the meta materials to try! - Sure I could, just borrow them from my brother. - You're brother's a scientist? - No, just a music fan with lots of vinyl. Is that meta enough for ya? - How's that going to help you? - Pink Floyd just hit a world record with more than like 1,000 nonconsecutive weeks on the Billboard charts for Dark Side of the Moon. - So what?

Does it play Pink Floyd? - No, Gilligan, why?
D'uh, that album has "Time" on it. I could make it run backward; in fact, I have made it run backward lots of times, looking for backward masking to explain its enduring popularity. - That's not the same thing! - It may not be, but I did it, and it was no big deal. - Well this is a BIG deal because it goes to prove, time is not real. At least, it's not what we think it is. All time is NOW. We can play it front or back or revisit it or change it through retrocausation, but it is definitely NOT what it seems to be. - Oh, that is a big deal. - D'uh, I told you!

"Temporal anti-parity–time symmetry in diffusive transport"
OK, now just as an experiment, everyone pedal backwards to before we were shipwrecked.

ABSTRACT
Nature Physics
: Parity–time symmetry has revolutionized wave and energy transport control in non-Hermitian systems, yet has so far been mostly explored in static phases, where a system’s behaviour is locked into a fixed-symmetric or broken-symmetry phase. The vast potential of time-domain dynamics has remained largely untapped. Here we introduce the concept of temporal anti-parity–time symmetry, a principle that allows the transport dynamics of a system to be actively shaped in real time. Rather than designing static phases, we influence the timing of non-Hermitian phase transitions, making the system’s temporal evolution itself a programmable degree of freedom. Through the dynamic control of material properties and convective flow, we dictate the exact moments these transitions occur, thereby controlling the entire transport history of the system. This temporal control achieves highly tunable field localization and realizes counterintuitive thermal transport, enabling temperature profiles to move forwards with convection, backwards against it or remain trapped at arbitrary locations. Our findings extend non-Hermitian physics into the time domain and establish a framework for on-demand wave and energy transport. Source

[Buddhist] World Surf League Finals (8/25)

What is 'Buddhist' about the practice of surfing?

Get back on and ride the waves.
There are many ways in which surfing, which seems to have been "invented" in the Pacific -- in Peru and Polynesia, with important contributions from Buddhist Japan (which at that time included a cultural hold on what is now part of Hawaii in the Imperial USA), tracks with the best elements of Eastern philosophy.

That philosophy, distinct from Western philosophy we are all generally familiar with, is a syncretic blend of Buddhism, Zen, the Vedas, Hinduism, Taoism, Shinto, and indigenous shamanism. (British Californian Alan Watts explained it very well to Westerners).
  • Mindfulness (fully absorbed in monotasking)
  • Absorption (undistracted doing temporarily freed of discursive thinking)
  • Letting go (non-clinging, as in "Let Go, Let God," with "God" understood to be Nature, the Universe, things just as they are at this moment, more Brahman than a brahma)
  • Going with the flow rather than struggling against it (entering flow states familiar to poets, rappers, artists, and persons able to enter trance states at will)
  • Skillful allowing and accepting rather than shoving, muscling, and efforting (radical acceptance as understood by Buddhist teacher and psychologist Tara Brach)
  • Riding the wave (internally of emotions, externally tolerating and skillfully adapting to the "Eight Worldly Winds"):
Practicing at home in the Deep South, USA
Theravada Buddhist teacher Sharon Salzberg elaborates on the Taoist idea of “the ten thousand joys and the ten thousand sorrows.” Our lives are constantly changing, sometimes in the space of a minute. The Buddha taught that the “Eight Worldly Winds” are:
  1. pleasure
  2. and pain,
  3. gain
  4. and loss,
  5. praise
  6. and blame,
  7. fame
  8. and disrepute.
Taoism and the Tao Te Ching (Book of Changes)
They (and all things) are constantly arising and passing away, beyond our control. We suffer when we cling to pleasure, gain, praise, and fame or hold the expectation that they will always be present.

When instead we get pain, loss, blame, and disrepute, we feel that something is terribly wrong, or that we’ve done something wrong... More
  • Well, what should we do when everything sucks? Surf.
  • Whether that means ride the waves of life constantly coming at us like Eight Worldly Winds or vicissitudes or actually getting out on the water, waiting for the swells, and riding them back to sure with the practiced skills of balance, poise, allowing, persistence, and mindful awareness.

Where is Fiji?
Where in the world is Fiji? It is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania in the South Pacific Ocean (between Hawaii and Australia). It rests about 1,300 miles (1,100 nautical miles or 2,000 kms) north-northeast of New Zealand.

Fiji consists of an archipelago of more than 330 islands—of which about 110 are permanently inhabited—and more than 500 islets, amounting to a total land area of about 7,100 square miles (18,300 sq kms). The most outlying island group is Ono-i-Lau.
Mexico's Baja California in upper right, Fiji in center, Southeast Asia on left, Africa at far left
.
About 87% of the total population live on the two major islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. About three-quarters of Fijians live on Viti Levu's coasts, either in the capital city of Suva, or in smaller urban centers such as Nadi (where tourism is the major local industry) or Lautoka (where the sugar-cane industry is dominant). The interior of Viti Levu is sparsely inhabited because of its terrain [13]. More

Pyramids were energy machines (Daily Mail)

A scale model house could be constructed.
A new discovery in Egypt's Great Pyramid of Giza suggests the structure was not just a pharaoh's final resting place, but also a giant power plant.

Scientists blasted the 4,600-year-old structure with electromagnetic waves, a form of radiation that travels though the universe, finding it focused and amplified the energy into specific chambers and around the base.

Electromagnetic waves are used in such research because the radiation interacts with matter in unique ways, allowing experts to probe specific details about a structure's composition, arrangement, and dynamics.
Did this news reach the Cosmic Summit? And then some
The waves built up as energy in the King's chamber, the Queen's chamber, and an unfinished chamber beneath the structure. Scientists concluded the pyramid may have been a gigantic resonator that was designed to trap electromagnetic waves.

Retired aerospace engineer Christopher Dunn, who has spent years analyze the pyramid, recently shared that research like this suggests there was a greater purpose behind the building the structure.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience in April 2024, Dunn said the Northern Shaft of the pyramid has an appearance similar to a ube-like structure used to transmit microwaves and electromagnetic energy.

"That's a part of the theory in the Giza power plant," he said. "There are two chemicals that are introduced into the chamber, and the chemicals mix, and they boil off hydrogen [to create energy]."

As for the purpose of turning this structure into a giant clean energy power plant, scientists of the study said it's still a mystery -- but the Egyptians may have been much more advanced than anyone thought. More:

Laser light, changing past, mind on DMT?

So what? The Buddha was right.
These words are attributed to Einstein: "A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts, and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty" (A surprisingly Buddhist quote by Albert Einstein. : r/Buddhism).

Is light a cluster of particles (photons)?

Why I stopped believing that light is a particle (until now)
(Looking Glass Universe) This video is about Richard Feynman's Quantum Electrodynamics (QED), which says that light is made of photons [particles] that go on all possible paths at once.

Einstein: O, Great Buddha, what is the answer?
The experiment in the video is from the following video from Veritasium. Even though I don't agree fully agree with their interpretation of the experiment, I think it's an excellent explanation of QED. I highly recommend it!

Light in Buddhist meditation and physics
What is directly-perceived light? It may be kalapas, the smallest units of materiality (rupa, form)
.
It is possible to directly perceive light
In Buddhism, ฤloka-saรฑรฑฤ means the "perception of light." A recurring Pali language canon passage reads:

"Here the meditator contemplates the perception of light, fixes mind on the perception of the day, as at daytime so by night, and as at nighttime so by day. In this way, with a mind clear and unclouded, one develops a stage of mind that is full of brightness."

That is, mind becomes full of the perception of light.

This perception is one of the methods for overcoming drowsiness in meditation recommended by the Buddha to the chief male disciple "foremost in psychic powers," Mahฤ Moggallฤna (A.VII. 58). [He may have said the same to the chief female disciple declared "foremost in psychic powers," Uppalavanna Theri.]

Attain absorptions, see kalapa, review in slo-mo
According to DN 33, this method is conducive to the development of "knowledge and vision." (See "purification," visuddhi). And it is said to be helpful for the attainment of the psychic "divine eye." (See abhiรฑรฑฤ). Light can also be the direct subject of meditation as a kasina (a disk or special meditation object).

Buddhism has its own physics? Oh, yes. It is called the "Doctrine in Ultimate Terms" or Abhidhamma pitaka. Why? In Buddhism, there is conventional reality as distinct from ultimate reality. In one world or perspective, there are things and persons. In another, there are only ultimate mind and matter, nama and rupa ("name and form") or the ultimate constituents of things, namely cittas ("mind-moments") and kalapas ("particles").

Something strange happens when we trust quantum mechanics
