"What's that?" the Japanese scientists asked the Americans, curious about getting to the next celestial body. "Mars, Venus?"

 "The Sun!" the Americans boasted.

The Japanese were dumbfounded at America's great boldness.

"But how," one Japanese engineer inquired, "will you overcome the heat?"

The American team scoffed, "Ha, that's easy! We'll be landing at night."

The Japanese team giggled behind the American team's back, "We'll concentrate on the Moon."

"Whatever," the U.S. team dismissed the other science teams, "we've already conquered the Moon! We can do it again easy. We have Elon Musk!"

The private capitalist company Intuitive Machines -- backed by NASA technology, boosted by Elon Musk's private SpaceX Corporation launcher -- has failed miserably in its propaganda campaign of pretending to land on the moon a second time 52 years after putting the USSR to shame with fake footage of a first landing. What can we do? I know! Let's throw more money at the problem. That fixes everything. Who cares that everyone is trying to claim the lunar surface or that the Earth's satellite is hollow, watery, and full of enslaved beings! We're cleared to take the surface, if we can get to it. And Eric Dubay says we can't, even if it's actually very close and smaller than we've been told.

• LANDER BLUES: NASA's new Moon lander may have touched down in one piece, but the story keeps getting more embarrassing and underwhelming for the space agency. Intuitive Machines, the company that built the Odysseus lander, said in a series of updates posted on its website and on X (Twitter) that although the craft is online and beaming images back to Earth, its operators believe it won't be able to keep up communications for much longer [as the battery dies and fails to get charged by solar panels].

Ven. Moggallana: Devata, you are sitting on a golden throne [vimana, interactive chariot helm, an "immeasurable space vehicle," capable of traveling anywhere]. It flies wherever you want as quickly as you want. You are beautifully dressed, wearing garlands of flowers; you are radiant, like lightning shining through the clouds.

What kind of meritorious action (kusala karma) did you do when you were in the human world to have gained this beauty (glory) that shines in all directions, and what deeds earned all of these wonderful things?

The devata, delighted at being questioned by the famous Ven. Moggallana, gladly explained what she had done that resulted in such great good fortune and happiness.

Devata: Venerable, when I was in the human world, a [Buddhist] monk visited our house, and I prepared a seat for him to sit on. Raising my hands (in anjali mudra) and putting my palms and fingers together, I saluted that monk respectfully.

I also offered alms food to him. Because of these meritorious deeds, I have been reborn as a very beautiful devata and enjoy all of the wonderful things that delight my heart. Great venerable, these are the meritorious deeds I did to gain such a beautiful body that shines in all directions.

Jain cities in India are very close to Buddhist places of significance, and one sees many statues one immediately assumes are the Buddha. In fact, they are Mahavira, often shown naked.

Jainism, like Buddhism, talks about other spheres, planes of existence, and UFOs (vimanas).

These Vaimānika deities dwell in the Ūrdhva Loka planes (celestial or space spheres). According to the Kalpa Sūtra of Bhadra-bāhu, the 24th Tīrthaṃkara Mahā-vīra himself emerged from the great vimāna Puṣpa-uttara [7], whereas the 22nd Tīrthaṃkara Ariṣṭa-nemi emerged from the great vimāna Aparijita [8].

  Just as the historical Buddha Siddhartha Gautama spoke of 23 previous buddhas (even a prehistoric Siddhartha, the 16th), Mahavira simultaneously spoke of 23 previous tirhamkaras or "ford-makers" (to cross the flood of samsara to the further shore, which for Buddhists is nirvana and for Jains is rebirth in a lofty unconscious world that sounds suspiciously like an immaterial sphere described by the Buddha. Coincidence or the same historical figure?
• Prof. Jaini had such an enormous ego that he named his poor-quality thesis, which was hardly fit to be published at all, "The Jaina Path of Purification" after the ancient enlightened Ven. Buddhism is a unique Dharma because it teaches the liberating truth of anatta, that all things are impersonal. Jainism, like the Vedas, Brahmins, Hindus, and every other religion teaches that there is a self, an immortal soul, that is eternal and unchanging. The soul (atta) is changing at every moment, is constantly perishing, and therefore is neither immortal nor -- in the ultimate sense -- existing. Dependent Origination exists and explains why the Five Aggregates get clung to by the aggregates themselves as a momentary "self" or "eternal soul." So Jainism differs from the parallel Buddhist tradition it is otherwise so similar to that it is almost impossible to distinguish them.

The Deva-Asura War

The Asuras ("Titans") formerly lived in the Heaven of the Thirty-Three (Pali Tavatimsa, Sanskrit Trāyastriṃśa), the world on the peak of Mt. Sumeru with the other Shining Ones of that world.

When Sakka, King of the Devas (Śakra, Indra, analogous to Archangel Michael) became the ruler of that world, the Titans celebrated by drinking a lot of gandapāna wine, a celestial alcohol so strong that Sakka forbade the other Shining Ones from drinking it.

Weakened by their drunkenness, the Titans could not resist when Sakka had the whole lot of them thrown over the edge of the World of the Thirty-Three into what would become the Titan-world at the base of the mythical mountain Mt. Sumeru.

A tree grows there called cittapātali. When the Titans saw it blossom, they realized that it was different from the pāricchattaka (Sanskrit pāriyātra) tree which had grown in their old home, and they knew that they were dispossessed.

They now contemplated war. In armor and weapons, they climbed up the steep slopes of Mt. Sumeru "like ants." Sakka set out to meet them, but he was forced to retreat because of their numbers.

Passing through the forest where the Avians (Garuḍas) live on his flying chariot [UFO, spaceship, vimana], Sakka saw that his passage was destroying the nests of the Avians and ordered his charioteer Mātali to turn back.

When the pursuing Titans saw Sakka turn around, they felt certain that he must be coming back with an even larger army. So they fled, ceding all the ground they had gained (Robert Chalmers, 1895, "No. 31, Kulāvaka-Jātaka," The Jataka [Rebirth Tales] Volume I).

Despite their many wars, there was eventually a partial concord between the Shining Ones of the World of the Thirty-Three and the dispossessed Titans.

This came about because Sakka fell in love with Shachi (aka Sujā), daughter of a Titan chieftain named Vepacitti (Sanskrit, Vemacitrin).

Vepacitti had given Sujā the right to choose her own husband at an assembly of the Titans, and she chose Sakka, who had attended disguised as an aged Titan. Vepacitti therefore became Sakka's father-in-law.

Before he was reborn as Sakka, King of the Devas, due to his unusually good karma (keeping seven vows), he was a human named Magha of Macala (Western "Michael"). He is also called Maghava. He is the ruler of two celestial worlds above this earth (bhumi) among Buddhist cosmology's 31 Planes of Existence. He rules the "World of the Thirty-Three" with 33 other "lords," and he is the king of four regents one world down, the "Realm of the Four Great Regent-Kings" of the four cardinal directions in space. Ellora Caves: The Mind-Boggling Rock-Cut Buddhist Temples of India

There were no caves here to begin with. How are we to comprehend the 100+ artificial Ellora caves and Ajanta caves? How were they built? By space-devas?

Somehow the massive Ellora complex of publicly visible 34 unique structures has been magically cut out of pure rock, into the side of a mountain, without the use of "modern" technology. This construction would be difficult if not impossible to replicate today.

This never-before-seen documentary closely looks at the intricate Buddhist temple and suggests — as have many archaeologists on the ground — that thousands of years ago, ancient cultures were far more advanced and sophisticated than scholars are generally willing to give them credit for. The Moon (Buddhist Soma, Vedic Chandra, Latin Luna) is of special significance in Buddhism.

It is the ancient lunar observance (uposatha, the Buddhist "fasting" day, where fast means not eating after noon) eight-precept day.

The Eight Precepts

1. I undertake to abstain from harming or taking life (human or non-human).
2. I undertake to abstain from taking what is not given (stealing, misappropriation, fraud, displacements that may cause misunderstandings).
3. I undertake to abstain from sexual activity.
4. I undertake to abstain from wrong speech: perjury, divisiveness, slander, harsh words.
5. I undertake to abstain from intoxicating drinks and drugs, which lead to heedlessness or carelessness.
6. I undertake to abstain from eating at the inappropriate time (the right time being after sunrise but before noon).
7. I undertake to abstain from singing, dancing, playing music, attending entertainment performances, wearing perfume, and using cosmetics and garlands (decorations).
8. I undertake to abstain from high and luxurious seats and beds and overindulging in sleep.
