In the future, when peace reigns in the world, one can only hope that it will not be because we all agree but rather because we have all learned to respect, enjoy, and celebrate differences.

The Buddha originated the famous simile of the elephant, which like the Aesop Fables (rooted in the Jataka) gained so much popularity people use it without realizing who came up with it: A group of blind men are asked what an elephant looks like. So depending on their sense of touch, they feel a portion of the elephant and extrapolate a global view. The one who feels a leg describes the elephant as a column. The one who feels an ear describes the elephant as a supple palm. The one who feels the trunk describes the elephant as a snake, and so on. Each, going on limited information, proceeds to form a wrong view about the whole.

All of their views combined might get us somewhere, but instead they are with each other: "How can you say a supple palm when this is a post?" "How can you say post, when this is a snake?" and so on.

One of the best classes to take in college is comparative religion. If they were presented fairly and accurately, we might be drawn to the best religion for us, rather than all being baptized by fire into Scientism. Lots of students would surely become agnostics, and a few might become militant atheists and even fewer pantheists and animists. Who's right?

This is a question of epistemology (the philosophy of determining what qualifies as proof and knowledge), which is very ontological (concerned with being). Go, Socrates! The unexamined life is not worth living, which seems to be what our Western hedonism (pleasure above everything else) seems to really be about. In any case, we already hear the anti-Islam view by its most articulate critic on YouTube.

He, like many well-read Muslims, is convinced that he has airtight arguments to "prove" everything he believes. He does not. But in thinking so, he is self-assured and ready to debate with anyone anywhere, except maybe people who are equally well read but hold a different view, opinion, or side of any subject. How does he feel about females (and just because he called this woman a "girl" is no reason to hold that against him)? He loves, respects, and honors them in accordance with Koranic teachings, always "lowering his gaze" so as not to objectify them. He is sure that by believing as he does and acting in accordance with his beliefs, he will after death go to paradise to be with his creator, the great God Allah. If Islam means "surrender," and it does, Dawah has surrendered. Anyone who listens and believes his urgent fast talking may want to surrender, too, and should do as he says and repeat the chapter and verse of the Koran (Quran) or Everyday Fiqh he's quoting. What a great religion where all one has to do is read, listen, obey and be saved. The great Garden in the sky is paradise.

The Line (stylized as THE LINE, Arabic ذا لاين or Dha Layin) is a linear smart city under construction in the middle of the desert in Neom, Tabuk Province, Saudi Arabia. 

It is being designed to have no cars, no streets, and no carbon emissions [2, 3, 4, 5].

The 110 mile long (170km) city is part of Saudi Vision 2030 project, which Saudi Arabia claims will create about 460,000 jobs and add an estimated $48 billion to the country's GDP [2].

The Line is planned to be the first development of a $500 billion project in Neom [6].

The smart city's plans anticipate a population of 9 million, or 25% of Saudi Arabia's current population (35.5 million) [7].

Excavation work has started along the entire length of the project, the inception of which was planned for October 2022.

The project has faced criticism over its impact on the fragile desert environment and the current population of the area, as well as doubts about its technological and economic viability.

Proposal

The Line is planned to be 110 miles long (and only 660 feet wide for its entire length, give or take another 6 feet), preserving 95% of the nature within Neom [3, 4, 8].

(By the way, we just added that extra six feet by measuring six feet under, where most of the inhabitants are going to be as time goes one).

It will stretch approximately from the Red Sea to the city of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. It is intended to house 9,000,000 (nine million) residents, resulting in an average population density of 260,000 people per square km (26K/km2) [7].

By comparison, the capital of the Philippines, Manila, the world's most densely populated city in 2020, had a density of 44,000/km2 [9].

Iraq is on the brink of disintegration as Sunni militants seize more towns and set their sights on the ancient Cradle of Civilization capital Baghdad. In the past few days, al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has seized control of Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, as well as Tikrit and Dhuluiya.

Thousands of tribal and Dalit Hindus in India are to embrace the Buddhism at a huge gathering in Mumbai (Bombay). The ceremony, which may be presided over by Tibet's exiled leader, the Dalai Lama, is billed as the largest religious conversion in modern India.

The converts hope to escape the rigid caste system in which their status is the lowest. Right-wing Hindus have often opposed conversion, pushing some Indian states to restrict legal changes of faith. The organizers say the number of people to convert in Sunday's ceremony could go up to 100,000 -- easily the biggest mass conversion in India's recent history.

Conversion controversies

The Dalits, once known as "Untouchables," hope the conversion will give them dignity and equal rights. Commentators say that despite the reservation of jobs for the Dalit and tribal communities, their social status and economic conditions have not greatly improved. They say that Dalits still face widespread prejudice and discrimination.

Conversion is a controversial subject in India, especially if it involves Hindus converting to Christianity or Islam. Two weeks ago two Catholic priests were publicly beaten after being accused of trying to bring a group of local people into the Catholic faith.

But converting to Buddhism does not evoke much adverse reaction, as most hardline Hindu leaders believe Buddhism is an extension of Hinduism. Even so, several Indian states, especially the ones governed by the right-wing BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), have made laws severely restricting conversion.
