Muslim month of Ramadan begins (Islam)

Fasting with the eyes means abstaining from temptation(s).

Sid, Krish, Mo, Josh, Aquaman, Lao Tzu, Joe
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm, not eating during daylight hours), communal prayer (salah), reflection, and community [5] -- and no sinning in general so "fasting" with the eyes as well. It is also the month during which the Quran is believed to have been revealed to the Islamic Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The annual observance of Ramadan is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam [6] and lasts 29 to 30 days, from the sighting of the crescent moon to the next [7, 8]. More

Holy Ramadan, month of Fasts/Feasts

Beauty bound in a burka? Free in hijab (dreamstime.com)

Hey, don't you mean FASTING? Yes, but David Wood (below) assures us it's actually FEASTING that will be happening all of this Muslim-month, with lots of sleep and deluded back-patting of how "pious" and "holy" we're being in observance of sacred traditions.

The many benefits of fasting
The same happens in Buddhism, where monastics observe a daily "fast" (not eating after noon or before dawn) but may overeat the rest of the time, often developing diabetes, cholesterol problems, and all kinds of diseases of modernity as a consequence. Saudi Arabia has many people suffering from overeating, not starvation, during the Ramadan "fast."

It seems even more ridiculous in Holy Roman Catholicism, at least the American version, where asking good Catholics to "fast" -- abstain from eating dead animals in the form of "meat" -- was just too much to ask. Forty days without dead fish? How is McDonald's supposed to make money? (Are fish animals? We thought they were).

Eat all the seed-bearing plants and fruit in the world, which the good God hath made: Genesis 1:29 quotes the God as saying, "Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food. But that's not good enough. We need to kill animals, or pay people to kill them for us, even during Lent, a 40-day period of abstaining and austerity, abandoning all kinds of bad habits. Does Protestantism advocate fasting? Sort of.

Bhagavan Bhakthi (Hinduism devotion)
Maha Shivratri
– celebrated in February/March, the Great Honoring of the Trinity Component God Shiva is a solemn Hindu festival that occurs towards the end of winter, before the spring. It is marked with rituals such as fasting (vrata) and meditation (dhฤraแน‡ฤ and dhyana). The holiday occurs on the last night of the waning moon in the Hindu month of Phalguna or Magha. What do Hindus consider "fasting"? Six important fasts or vrats Hindus should keep and why
  • Fast fast (take nothing but air)
  • Water fast (just drink lots of water)
  • Juice fast (just take fresh juices, but be careful of the natural sugar content separated from its healthy fiber)
  • Fast all day (24 hours)
  • Fast part of the day (from 12 noon to about 6:00 am)
  • Fast all night (like when sleeping, avoiding after dinner snacks)
  • Fast part of the night (like during Ramadan, after the giant feast dinner, staying up all night to digest before ruining that digestion with a big breakfast, before the recovery-sleep done all of the rest of the day)
  • Food? Give it a rest and clean house, as fasting allows the body to clean itself like a self-cleaning oven, the energy-consuming organs of digestion.
  • All forms of fasting are good for the body, if undertaken correctly. It may seem scary because we overeat and are sugar addicts with diabetes, prediabetes, and all sorts of metabolic syndrome conditions, which fasting would eventually clear
  • Who's healthier and more alive than someone trapped for a time without food, finding all the senses heightened and fully alert?
Ramazan begins with crescent moon, how official start time can still vary around the world
(WION) Ramazan (aka Ramadan), the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is one of the holiest periods for Muslims around the world. In 2025, the world's Muslim community anticipates a rare alignment in the moon sighting for the beginning of Ramadan. Watch to know more. #Eid #Ramadan #worldnews

Fasting, the Islamic way: FEASTing

The REAL Ramadan rules we never knew existed
(Acts 17 Polemics) #Ramadan is typically described as a month-long "fast" (period of not eating). Yet, the entire month is filled with "feasting" (periods of eating).

Indeed, binge eating during Ramadan is causing a health crisis in Muslim countries. So why is gluttony and excess portrayed as strict discipline and self-control in Islam?

Is there a spiritual component to Ramadan? Christian critic David Wood explores the issue and uncovers the disturbing truth about Islam's holiest month.

All hail the Great Muhammad ๐Ÿ•‹☪๐Ÿ•Œ

No. The great and final prophet of God (peace be upon him)? No. Mr. Cassius M. Great Muhammad Ali: all the knockouts

.
(Show Me Boxing) American Muhammad Ali is one of the most talented boxers in the history of professional pugilism. His career was full of momentous events, which included a rapid rise and a deafening fall. He was not as spectacular a knockout artist as Mike "Ear Eater" Tyson, but he put a lot of tough guys on the floor of the ring during his career.

Ali making move on shy Pres. Jimmy Carter
Because Ali's career consists of almost only victories, there are a lot of knockouts among them as well. This video collects all of Muhammad Ali's knockouts, from the very first to the most recent. So sit back and watch it all to make light of capitalist-fueled violence that deadens the public and primes them for war ("Might makes right") almost as much as military American football (a kind of more violent futbol or British soccer using a dead animal as a corpse puck, Afghan Polo style from the game buzkashi.

At the same time, think about which bloodsport knockout in Ali's career was the coolest and led to the most killing and brutality by imperial soldiers in Vietnam and elsewhere and paramilitary troopers on the nation's streets who beat Blacks and others like a sport emulating the professional boxing matches they were so fond of watching and modeling. #MohammadAli #knockouts #boxing

Islam explains 'Big Bang' as act of God

Oh my God, Miriam, can you believe how they dress their girls? - We mustn't judge, Khadija!

The Big Bang problem for atheists: What Hawking and Tyson get wrong | God’s Cosmos

Muslim graffiti over Hunza Buddhist petroglyphs
(Basira Education) This video challenges the [Western] materialist view of the universe by using the [supposed] "Big Bang" as evidence for God's existence [that God being Allah, the One and Only true God, with only one messenger, peace be upon him, the Prophet Mohammed, with only one true revelation of His will and His orders for how to live].

Shaykh [Sheikh] Hamza Karamali explains that the "Big Bang" marks the beginning of the universe, making it impossible for materialism to explain its origins without invoking some [pre-existing] thing beyond physical matter and time.
Khilji destroys Buddhist Nalanda
He contrasts this with the views of [wheelchair scientist] Stephen Hawking and [gatekeeper mouthpiece] Neil deGrasse Tyson, arguing that their denial of a pre-Big Bang cause overlooks the need for a immaterial, timeless creator — God [or an impersonal ground or source].

The Big Bang, once rejected by materialists, now serves as overwhelming scientific evidence for a finite universe that points to a divine creator.

Why listen to a Muslim or learn about Islam?

Why do Jews hate Muslims?
Salam alaykum. A Buddhist website giving Islam a forum? But they're monotheistic Abrahamic fanatics!

Wisdom Quarterly is interested in all faiths and practices, explanations and views, particularly those we disagree with, so we listen without necessarily expecting to be listened to in return. Why?

In the future, when peace reigns in the world, one can only hope that it will not be because we all agree but rather because we have all learned to respect, enjoy, and celebrate differences.

The Buddha originated the famous simile of the elephant, which like the Aesop Fables (rooted in the Jataka) gained so much popularity people use it without realizing who came up with it: A group of blind men are asked what an elephant looks like. So depending on their sense of touch, they feel a portion of the elephant and extrapolate a global view. The one who feels a leg describes the elephant as a column. The one who feels an ear describes the elephant as a supple palm. The one who feels the trunk describes the elephant as a snake, and so on. Each, going on limited information, proceeds to form a wrong view about the whole.

All of their views combined might get us somewhere, but instead they are with each other: "How can you say a supple palm when this is a post?" "How can you say post, when this is a snake?" and so on.

One of the best classes to take in college is comparative religion. If they were presented fairly and accurately, we might be drawn to the best religion for us, rather than all being baptized by fire into Scientism. Lots of students would surely become agnostics, and a few might become militant atheists and even fewer pantheists and animists. Who's right?

This is a question of epistemology (the philosophy of determining what qualifies as proof and knowledge), which is very ontological (concerned with being). Go, Socrates! The unexamined life is not worth living, which seems to be what our Western hedonism (pleasure above everything else) seems to really be about. In any case, we already hear the anti-Islam view by its most articulate critic on YouTube.

Love before Zionism: Jew, Muslim agree

"We cry for the Palestinians" | Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss
I stand with Gaza b/c I'm human
(Let the Quran Speak) Oct. 13, 2023: Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss is a Jewish activist and spokesperson for Neturei Karta (nkusa.com), a Jewish group that vocally OPPOSES the state of Israel and Zionism.

Irrespective of whether or not the Palestinian people were affected, or the land were uninhabited, Neturei Karta says the Jewish people did not have a right to self-determination.

Why does Bibi Netanyahu poison peace?
[The corrupt CIA-groomed Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu is an arm of the American military doing the CIA's bidding in the Middle East.]

The establishment of a state of Israel prior to the coming of the Messiah, according to the Bible (Torah), is sinful and an act of rebellion against God.

I'm NOT Ultra-Orthodox yet I support Palestine
Rabbi Weiss says Jews yearn to return to the "Promised Land" and pray to God to bring about that end day, but in the meantime, they are tasked with patiently waiting, serving God, being loyal citizens in any country they are living in, and upholding the Torah (Jewish law from Old Testament sources) in every land in which they live.

This interview was conducted by Dr. Safiyyah Ally at Reviving the Islamic Spirit Convention in Toronto, Canada, in December 2022.

White US slaves in 1788? (Christopher Hitchins)

Pfc. Sandoval, Sheldon S., CC Liu (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly OPINION

Yeah, I like what West Point teaches.
When George H. Bush was attending West Point Military Academy, he claims he learned an alternate US history we are not taught in school, namely, that it was the U.S. running most of the pirate operations in and around the Caribbean. That is how a nation starts. We were doing it against British/English ships and corporations (like maybe the Dutch East India Company or its equivalents working on the Colonies, possessions and protectorates of the British Empire). We (North Americans it what came to be the USA) were the grand criminals. Bush with this knowledge went on to become CIA director then president of the U.S. So either it's true what West Point teaches its students, and we are being lied to in the rest of the country, or West Point teaches disinformation (purposeful lies) to its students to carry on our plunder, exploitation, and imperialism throughout the world, saying it's nothing different than what we've always done. One and a half million white European and American slaves taken by the Ottoman Empire in the century beginning 1788, Hitchens? That would be a fantastic revelation if it's not a self-serving fantasy to justify our exploitation of others and serve as a pretext told to West Point students and soldiers for our warring with and bullying of Muslim nations (Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Yemen, Iran, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia, the Middle East in general, Northern Africa as a whole which includes Israel but that is hidden on maps and in discussions, etc.) Oh, if only Hitchins were alive to ask him about it. Perhaps other historians specializing in American history, covert and overt, would opine.

Do Arab men hate women? (video)

Al Jazeera English, Head to Head, 5/16/16; Ashley Wells, Crystal Q. (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly

Do Arab men hate women?
(AJ English) "Why do they hate us?" With these five words in a controversial magazine article for Foreign Policy, Egyptian-American journalist Mona Eltahawy shot to fame, unleashing a devastating critique of women’s rights in the Arab world.

In the season premiere of Head to Head, interviewer Mehdi Hasan challenges Eltahawy on her views regarding the status of women in Arab states.

Are Arab or Muslim societies inherently patriarchal an sexist? And how does the narrative of Islam as sexist play into geo-politics and Western stereotypes of the Middle East?

Joining the discussion is Dr. Aitemad Muhanna of the London School of Economics’ Middle East Centre; self-proclaimed progressive Imam Dr. Taj Hargey; and Dr. Shuruq Naguib, a British-Egyptian academic from Lancaster University.

Oldest Qu'ran different than today's (video)

Editors, Wisdom Quarterly; TryThinkingNow, RAM, A17A (videos); FEMEN.org

Oldest Qu'ran (written 70 years after the death of the author) bears little similarity to modern version
India's prize building is Islam's Taj Mahal.
Like the Judeo-Christian Bible, but apparently to an even greater extent, the Qur'an (aka Koran) of today cannot be claimed to be a true version of the oldest Qur'an.

The oldest yet discovered (in 1972) was written in 705-715 AD, a mere 70 years after the death of the person who wrote or copied it down from the mouth of God (the mighty and merciful Allah). It has been available to researchers since 1979.

There are tremendous differences, an excellent example of one being an original text of "72 grapes" being changed to the infamous "72 virgins" awaiting the faithful in the afterlife hundreds of years later.

Nice Muslims have sex.
Standard histories of the author, the Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him], and the early development of Islam are based on Islamic literature that dates to the ninth and tenth centuries -- some two or more centuries after the death of Muhammad in 632.

Islamic literary sources do not exist for the seventh and eighth centuries when, according to tradition, Muhammad and his immediate followers lived. All that is preserved from this time period are a few commemorative building inscriptions and assorted coins.

Muslim Anessa Andradi (Josie Huang/scpr.org)
As the researchers meticulously show, the name "Muhammad" first appears on coins in Syria bearing Christian iconography. In this context the name is used as an honorific meaning "Revered" or "Praiseworthy" and can only refer to Jesus Christ, as Christianity was the predominant religion of the area at this time.
  • [A book came across our desk that proves some of the Qur'an is plagiarized from early Jewish-Christian texts. This video would explain why the three Abrahamic (a-Brahmanical) religions are so similar.]
This same reference exists in the building inscription of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, built by the caliph `Abd al-Malik. The implication of these and other findings here presented is that the early Arab rulers adhered to a sect of Christianity.

Indeed evidence from the Qur'an, finalized at a much later time, shows that its central theological tenets were influenced by a pre-Nicean, Syrian Christianity [Eastern Orthodox].
  • [NOTE: Saint Issa is the Buddhist name for Jesus in India; Issa or Isa is the Arabic name for Jesus in Islam; and  Barlaam and Josaphat is the Christian/Catholic name for "Saint the Buddha." (The Holy Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church in their wisdom did not know whom they was canonizing when handing out "sainthood," so the Buddha is a saint in their canons). Religion makes strange bedfellows.]
Trump is as bad as a rabid zealot (TMW)
Linguistic analysis also indicates that Aramaic (the language Jesus/Issa is said to have spoken) -- the common language throughout the Near East for many centuries and also the language of Syrian Christianity (called Syriac-Aramaic or Classical Syriac) -- significantly influenced the Arabic script and vocabulary used in the Qur'an.
  • The claim here is that the Qur'an is the first book ever written in Arabic, then a budding new language with only fragments and short pieces written with it. The upshot is that the Qur'an was not dictated all at once (by God to Muhammad) as is claimed but rather it was developed piecemeal over later centuries.
Finally, it was not until the end of the eighth and ninth centuries that Islam formed as a separate religion, and the Qur'an underwent a period of historical development of at least 200 years.

In other words, even if one believes that the Qur'an as written by Muhammad is a sacred text, the Qur'an of today is a substantially different book. It is not qualified to be called the "true Qur'an." It is not even a reasonable facsimile.

We defend US diversity and US Muslims!
Thus, contemporary Islam has been misled and is based on an inaccurate Qur'an in current use by modern Muslims.

Muslim leaders, of course, reject the physical and irrefutable evidence and facts presented. We hope lovers of Islam and religion will look into the evidence.

Original sources the Qur'an "borrowed"
(Reformed Apologetics Ministries) Uh oh, more evidence surfaces that the God (Allah) did not dictate directly to the Prophet (Muhammad) as has long been believed and taught down to this day.

COMMENTARY: Religion Kills
Wisdom Quarterly
We the People: There are more US Muslims than there are or ever have been US Jews.
.
"Religion Kills" (femen.org)
There are only three "world religions," Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam. Buddhism is the oldest. Christianity is the second oldest. Christianity takes much from Buddhism, particularly Catholicism ("Universalist" Christianity as co-opted and promoted by the Holy Roman Empire to serve its imperial ends). Now if Islam is basically derived from Christianity, which bases its history on Judaism, which goes back to the appropriated Sumerian texts, just as Buddhism goes very far back to previous Buddhas (fully enlightened teachers) through Vedic/Hindu history -- maybe we are all saying essentially the same thing from some former unified world religion. Viva la difference, of course. We're different now, different in our understanding and different in our practices. Religion is culture more than philosophy in peoples' lives today. It's as if a power (perhaps from space) came down and inserted its beliefs to the major strains of all three traditions. Has anyone noticed how similar Catholicism is to Hinduism, and how Mahayana Buddhism is just a version of Hinduism, and that Judaism have striking similarities, and how the Gnostic gospels and Notovitch's discoveries of the Lost Years of Jesus place him, a Jew, in India studying Buddhism and Hinduism? The only "true" indigenous religion of the planet seems to be the one still practiced everywhere in more or less secret -- shamanism. The least we can do is stop fighting. You practice you believe to be the best spirituality for you, and we'll do our part to investigate the truth and practice what we see to be the best for us, and vice versa. And we promise not only to offend you but to be offended by you, but gracefully and peacefully because...religions kills. Quick, somebody, call our favorite Muslim, the Christian biblical scholar Prof. Reza Aslan! He'll sort this out to no one's satisfaction.
