The Bible's Christian-Jewish Goddess

Queen of Heaven? Virgin coronation
Asherah (Hebrew אֲשֵׁרָה, Romanized ʾĂšērā, Ugaritic 𐎀𐎘𐎗𐎚, Romanized ʾAṯiratu; Akkadian 𒀀𒅆𒋥, Romanized Aširat [3], Qatabanian 𐩱𐩻𐩧𐩩 ʾṯrt) [4] was the principal Goddess of ancient Semitic religions, appearing in biblical texts but then systematically erased.

Asherah also appears in Hittite writings as Ašerdu(š) or Ašertu(š) (Hittite 𒀀𒊺𒅕𒌈, Romanized a-še-er-tu) [5, 6] and as Athirat in Ugarit as the consort of the main God of the Bible, ʾEl [7], who became Yahweh (YHWH, Jehovah), as He announces in the Bible.

Asherah was the major Goddess in ancient Northwest Semitic cultures, associated with fertility, motherhood, sacred trees [8].
  • Canaan became Palestine then Israel
The name "Canaan" appears throughout the Bible as the "Promised Land"...an ethnic catch-all term. More
  • Thereafter Canaan became, for all practical purposes, the Land of Israel...all the tribes of Israel (britannica.com).
  • The Goddess Asherah played a major and enduring role in the old Canaanite religion of future Israel, with mythical tales and stories influencing neighboring religions. Canaan is an old name for Israel.
  • If we had a Goddess, religion might be wonderful
  • What is the modern perception and worship of Asherah? Banned, erased, forgotten. Her influence spanned cultures over many centuries. Asherah began as an ancient Canaanite goddess of love, war, fertility, with priestesses aiding in the worship of the divine feminine.
  • The Goddess Asherah: Queen of Heaven,
    Mother of Creation (medium.com)
She is often portrayed as a nurturing fertility goddess, associated with fecundity and the fertility of the land. She was the consort of the Semitic peoples' God El, where She played a central role in the holy family and divine pantheon. Her worship involved ritual practices that included setting up sacred poles and offering sacrifices. Her significance in Canaanite mythology is evident in the archeological findings of inscriptions and artifacts dedicated to Her, highlighting Her enduring impact on the religious beliefs and practices... legendaryladieshub.com

Asherah was considered the Goddess of the Sea, while "Her husband El" was considered the God of "Heaven" [9] or the sky [apparently making a fallen Lucifer the satanic God of Earth in later interpretations, though Earth has always been conceived of as feminine for receiving rain from the sky that makes seeds grow], making her the Queen of Heaven (long before Mother Mary, the Catholic Queen of Heaven, or Kwan Yin).
Islam also remembers Asherah/Elat (al-Lat)
  • The El was the original name of the tribal Semitic God is attested to in many words still in use, such as IsraEL, GabriEL, MichaEL, RaphaEL, ELohim, Ba'EL, AzarEL, and so on.
  • Judaism was never actually a monotheistic religion as many claim. It has always been henotheistic and for a long time quite polytheistic, in some even pantheistic.
Asherah was sometimes called ELat (Elat, like the pre-Islamic Goddess EL-lat or al-Lat), the feminine equivalent of El [10] and held titles such as "holy" (qdš), "lady" (rbt), or "progenitress of the gods" (qnyt ỉlm) [9].

Fertility Mother Goddess Asherah
Asherah's iconography frequently depicted Her with pronounced feminine sexual features, often combined with tree motifs like date palms, highlighting her role as a fertility goddess. Some artifacts, such as the Revadim Asherah figurines, illustrate her breastfeeding children or displaying sexual imagery, emphasizing her maternal and generative symbolism.

Asherah's worship may also be reflected in phallic Asherah poles, "cultic" objects [turned occult ("hidden") by patriarchal priests wishing to erase her from his-story] frequently mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, though scholars try to debate whether these represent the Goddess Herself or sacred symbols of the holy [11, 7].

Phallic buxom Asherah pole figurine
Asherah's influence extended across many regions, including Israel and Judah (then Judea), Philistia (modern Gaza in Palestine), Egypt, Canaan, and Arabia (the Arabian Peninsula later Saudi Arabia), appearing -- like the counterpart male God -- under many different female names with many different roles rolled up into one omnipotent entity.

Asherah was considered the consort of Yahweh in the ancient Levant, as suggested by inscriptions at Kuntillet Ajrud and Khirbet el-Qom. But modern (post erasure) interpretations vary, and some scholars try to argue that these references describe holy objects rather than the Goddess [12, 13, 7].

Asherah bore many similarities with other goddesses -- such as Shapshu, Hathor, and Qetesh -- which strongly suggests her image and attributes influenced surrounding cultures.

What might have been if She were not erased?
Asherah was for millennia also linked to sacred fertility rites, which may have included women of status in ritual activities and priestesses. The denigrating association with temple prostitution, which in ancient times involved males and females, is now debated (and was clearly an attempt to explain Her away in the cover up after she was reduced and erased).

Asherah's worship was suppressed over time due to imposed monotheistic (henotheistic) reforms, and in later texts, references to Asherah were systematically erased by being retranslated as "groves" or "sacred trees" rather than directly as the Goddess. More

The God before God: Jewish-Christian deity

The God prior to God: El
El means "god" or "deity" or as a proper name, El refers to any one of multiple major ancient Near Eastern deities.

El ("God") is a Northwest Semitic word. A rarer form, 'ila, represents the predicate form in the Old Akkadian and Amorite languages [8]. The word is derived from the Proto-Semitic *ʔil- [9]. Originally a Canaanite deity known as 'El, 'Al, or 'Il was the supreme god of the ancient Canaanite religion [10].

It has always been understood that there were many gods, which is clear from teh Bible even as henotheists and monotheists try to obscure that fact.

The Jewish God El
Scholars like Frank Moore Cross and Ignace Gelb speculate El may have also been the supreme god of East Semitic speakers in the Early Dynastic Period of Mesopotamia (circa 2900–circa 2350 BCE) [11, 12].

Among the Hittites, El was known as Elkunirša (Hittite 𒂖𒆪𒉌𒅕𒊭 Elkunīrša). Although El was given different appearances and meanings in different languages over time, the word continues to exist as El-, -il, or -el in compound proper noun phrases like Isra'el (Hebrew Yīsrāʾēl,  Israēl, which means "El [God] persists or rules," Micha'el, Beth'el, and El'izabeth, most of which are theophoric given names. More: El (deity)
The ElohimHebrew word meaning "gods." The word is plural. It can also mean "godhood," which is to say what beings who become gods are called. As an abstract noun it refers to the concept of "divinity." In the Jewish (Hebrew) Bible, it often takes singular verbal or pronominal agreement to refer to a single deity, particularly but not always the God of henotheistic and polytheistic Judaism, that later tried to claim itself only monotheistic. In other verses it takes plural agreement and refers to gods in the plural. Who were these other gods? God's wife Asherah was one. She (the Goddess) was well known. The other, El, is less known because it is hidden through the biblical texts, which were chosen for political and Roman imperial purposes.

The Deleted Goddess of Christianity

Bodhisattva Kwan Yin, Buddhist Goddess of Compassion

The deleted Goddess of Christianity
(Asangoham) Discover evidence that Christianity erased a Goddess from its origins. What if everything we think we know about biblical monotheism is incomplete?

Beloved, nurturing Goddess Asherah
Recent discoveries have shattered our understanding of ancient Israelite religion, revealing that Yahweh [Yaldabaoth, the Demiurge in Gnosticism] -- the God of the Bible -- was once worshipped alongside a divine feminine consort [his wife] named Asherah for nearly 600 years.

In 1975, archeologists discovered pottery inscriptions at Kuntillet Ajrud in the Sinai Peninsula that shouldn't exist according to traditional biblical history.

Greece's Athena (Pallas)
Written in ancient Hebrew and dating to the 8th century BCE, the inscriptions read: "I bless you by Yahweh of Samaria and by his Asherah." His Asherah. That possessive pronoun changed everything.

Additional discoveries at Khirbet el-Qom confirmed what biblical editors had tried to erase: Israel's God had a wife, and she was worshipped in Solomon's Temple itself until King Josiah violently purged her cult around 622 BCE.

But Asherah's erasure was only the beginning. This documentary explores how the divine feminine was systematically removed from Christianity across seven critical chapters:

Chapter 1: The Vanished Feminine
The Divine Feminine (Holy Goddesses)
Before Christianity, the Mediterranean ["Middle Earth" aka "Center of World"] world overflowed with goddess worship:
  • Isis in Egypt,
  • Ishtar in Mesopotamia,
  • Artemis in Ephesus,
  • Cybele in Rome.
Then something changed. As Christianity spread, the Goddess disappeared from official theology, her temples destroyed [Asherah poles chopped down], her images smashed, her names forbidden.

Chapter 2: Asherah and the Forgotten Consort of Yahweh

The Queen of Heaven before Mary
Archeological evidence from ancient Israel reveals the explosive truth: Yahweh's divine consort was worshipped for centuries before reformers violently erased her.

The Bible itself preserves evidence of her destruction. We can examine pottery shards, temple artifacts, and biblical texts to prove that monotheism wasn't always so mono. [In fact, it is clear the whole area and the Jews in particular were polytheists.]

Sophia mystical: Sophia/Wisdom (Gnosticism)

Chapter 3: Sophia and the Gnostic Christ
Perfection of Wisdom, Java
The divine feminine refused to stay buried. She resurfaces in the Hebrew Bible as Hokmah (Wisdom), speaking as God's first creation and master craftsman. In Gnostic Christianity, Sophia becomes central to cosmic drama.
The Nag Hammadi texts discovered in 1945 show early Christian communities who understood Christ's mission as fundamentally connected to the restoration of the divine feminine.

Did Europe devolve from indigenous ways?

What happened to Indigenous Europeans?
Figurine of West's Mother Goddess
(Claudia Ayuso) Oct. 30, 2025: There’s an unknown chapter of European history that’s no longer told in our books. [The gatekeepers removed it so that no one would know.]

Research suggests that thousands of years ago [in prehistory] — long before recorded history — the Indigenous peoples of Europe built unique, rich cultures. But then something changed — dramatically. Out of that shift emerged the Europe we know today: patriarchy, biblical genocide, violence, sexism, empires, kings, and bloody conquest — a legacy of settler colonialism that shaped today's world.

So what happened? Have traces of that earlier world survived?
God's wife, beloved Asherah
Does anyone remember the Western God's wife? And by "God" is meant the Judeo-Christian "God" of the Bible: Her name was the Western Goddess Asherah.

Origin of God and Bible's other Gods

Historian Dalrymple on Israel's "godly" genocide

All the (other) gods in the Bible
(MisunderstAndy) June 19, 2025: There are a lot of gods in the [allegedly monotheistic Judeo-Christian, written in polytheistic Israel/Palestine but appropriated in large part from super ancient Sumerian texts] Bible. Here's a video about those deities. The true history of the Hebrew Jewish national God

As Christians we must kill for God

I'll trap humans in the physical world.
God wants us to kill. He commands it. You get no choice. Read the Book of Judges. He likes genocide. He demands children be stoned to death for disobedience. Who in the h*ll do you think you are to resist His will, His written word? Kill, kill, kill. The Bible also promotes rape and slavery, whew. Does that sound like what Jesus taught? We knew the religion we were born into was rotten, a deception. Gnostic.org has a far better exposition of Christian truth long hidden by the institution of the church. But Christians are too scared to hear it. Here a non-Gnostic explores how the real teachings of Jesus Christ (possibly Bodhisattva Saint Issa) are hidden by church officials to keep us from the truth. We could all get along in the world, but the powers that be will not stand for that. There's too much to be made to keep us the way we are, with apologists galore trying to make excuses of unimaginable proportions.

Correction:
01:55 Some have noted that Yahweh was not part of the Canaanite Pantheon, which is to say, he is not mentioned in the Ugaritic text. I meant that in Israel, as we shall see, he was related to this pantheon, but this can be confusing.

03:05 The Bible itself explains "Israel" as "struggle with God," which seems to be folk etymology. Genesis is full of them. Here, the meaning of words was guessed at the time long after the original meaning was forgotten. "El rules" seems linguistically more sensible.

07:38 The Hebrew version of the Bible states “the children of Israel” instead of "the divine sons." The "the divine sons" is part of the Greek translation of the Bible and also from a fragment from Qumran, making scholars believe that “the children of Israel" was a later alteration, to avoid the complications described on this slide.
