Husband and wife "adult" film actors Eric Masterson and Wendy Devine (stage names) pose for a photo during a break in shooting of a porn film for Vivid Entertainment, May 18, 2004, on the set in Canoga Park, California. The couple have been able to maintain their marriage for seven years while working with a variety of different partners on adult films.

What happens on the Web is for us and the NSA
Statistics on U.S. pornography consumption are sketchy at best, thanks to unreliable self-reporting.

What we do know is the business of porno, especially on the Web, has been booming, which means many Americans must be clicking and watching.

Google [a secret government spying entity] data from 2013 shows that monthly page views (pvs) of some of the top porn sites approach Wikipedia-hit proportions:
  1. PornHub, 2.5 billion pvs;
  2. YouPorn, 2.1 billion pvs;
  3. Tube 8, 970 million pvs;
  4. LiveJasmin, 710 million pvs.
  5. Wisdom Quarterly, less than 10 million pvs.
Is this "sexual misconduct" by Buddhism's definition? Sex is one thing, misconduct another.
.
Top 10 Republican fetishes.
As Salon reported, in comparison, Wikipedia gets about 8 billion pvs. Just 30 years ago, folks had to leave their bedrooms or basements to seek out weird adult videos or raunchy Hustler magazines at the Piggly Wiggly, old timey video stores, or disreputable newsstands everywhere.

Today’s in-your-face ubiquity inspired the movie "Don Jon" (featuring Scarlett Johansson and Joey Gordy Levitt) about a young man so addicted to porn it interferes with his relationships. (OMG!) Perhaps inspired by that film some German researchers published a recent study associating higher porn consumption with the decline of marriage in the U.S.

What? I gotta gets butts in the seats, man!
Italian American Jon Martello is a modern day "Don Juan," with a short list of things he cares about: "my body, my pad, my ride, my family, my church, my boys, my girls, my porn." He has an active sex life, but curiously he is more interested in masturbating to filthy pornography he somehow finds on his computer. On a night out with his two best friends at a bar, they begin to scope out (quantify) females depending on their "hotness level on a 10 scale." During the hunt, Jon sees Barbie Sugarman. Then he finds her on the quasi-government spying site Facebook, and asks her to lunch. The attraction is mutual, but Barb insists on a traditional long-term courtship, which proceeds for over a month without sex. Not like in her other movies where she's an alien sex fiend and gets right to it.
  • Is that too far a stretch?
  • How has porn impacted our sex life?
  • What advice do we need about navigating this terrain with our partner(s)?
