Bhikkhu Bodhi (Brahmajāla Sutra, DN 1); Dhr. Seven, Amber Larson (eds.), Wisdom Quarterly
Would the Buddha watch the Big Fight? Would he gamble? Would he watch TV?
.
SUTRA: The All-Embracing Net of Views
Yes he would. - No he wouldn't!!!
(Excerpt) 7. "Meditators, it is only to trifling and insignificant matters, to minor details of mere moral virtue, that an ordinary worldling would refer when speaking in praise of the Wayfarer [the Buddha].

"What are those trifling and insignificant matters, those minor details of mere moral virtue, to which such a person would refer?

Bookies will lose millions in bets with upset.
8. " 'Having abandoned the destruction of life, the wandering ascetic Gautama abstains from the destruction of life. He has laid aside the rod [cudgel used to beat others] and the sword and dwells conscientious, full of kindness, compassionate for the welfare of all living beings.'

"It is in this way, meditators, that the ordinary worldling would speak when praising the Wayfarer.

Giving to ascetics is good karma (merit).
9. "Or such a person might say: 'Whereas some worthy wandering ascetics and temple priests (Brahmins), while living on almsfood offered by those filled with faith, attend unsuitable shows -- such as shows featuring dancing, singing, or instrumental music, theatrical performances, narrations of legends, music played by hand-clapping, cymbals, and drums, picture houses, acrobatic performances, combats of elephants, horses, buffaloes, bulls, goats, rams, cocks and quails; stick-fights, boxing and wrestling, sham-fights, roll-calls, battle-arrays, and regimental reviews -- the wandering ascetic Gautama abstains from attending such unsuitable shows.' (AP)...Bogdanovich said his chain of sports books [legal gambling establishments] will suffer multimillion dollar losses -- their worst ever -- should McGregor win the fight in any fashion. If he wins early as he has promised, the losses will be even worse.

The big bettors are putting their money on Mayweather, who is 49-0 [wins to losses] as a pro. But so many McGregor fans are betting small amounts that the betting slips at William Hill were 18-1 in the Irish fighter's favor.

Yay Conor!
"This isn't professional money, just the regular Joe," Bogdanovich said. "The butcher and the barber are putting their $100 on McGregor and it's added up."

The action is reflected in the odds, which bookmakers adjust either way as money comes in on the two fighters. Bookmakers have been lowering the odds steadily since the fight was announced, but even that hasn't stopped the deluge of McGregor bets. More
