Michael Parenti: RIP to the GOAT (TJDS)

R.I.P. to the GOATMichael Parenti (Wiki)
Those who think they're free just haven't come to the end of their leash. - Michael Parenti

American Marxist scholar, political analyst, historian, and author Michael Parenti has died at the age of 92. He was an outspoken critic of American capitalism, imperialism, and class inequities, whose intellectual works were celebrated around the world. He was the author of over 20 books, including Democracy for the Few and Superpatriotism.
Against Empire: Exposé US Global Domination
“Well, I argue that one of the functions of a capitalist state is to defend capitalism from itself, to defend capitalism from the capitalists. It was Marx — dare we mention him? I hear he’s coming back in style. It was Marx who said one capitalist will kill many other capitalists, that the system begins to consume itself. We see that with Bernard Madoff [Bernie who made off with a lot of other people's money] and the like.…The free market does not work. It’s not free. It’s not really a market; it’s a plunder. And it has to be done away with.” - Michael Parenti

Michael John Parenti (Sept. 30, 1933–Jan. 24, 2026) was an American political scientist, academic historian, and cultural critic who wrote on scholarly and popular subjects. He taught at American universities and also ran for political office [1]. Parenti was well known for his Marxist writings and lectures [2, 3] and was a heroic intellectual of the American Left [4]. Mickey Mouse Day 2025 (Disney World)

OC is a Tragic Kingdom, right, Gwennie?
Like most of us around here, Gwen Stefani (who long since sold out) and her ska-punk band No Doubt grew up near the original Disneyland (in Anaheim, California). To us it was much more a Tragic Kingdom than a magic one, all Hollywood and transparently capitalist, feeding girls fantasies that a rich prince on a white stallion was on his way any minute now if we just kept our heads down and played our assigned roles, never questioning gender norms and expectations, inherent sexism, and a system of patriarchy that ruined life for 51%+ of the world. Gwen played her role to fame and fortune, but at one time she helped write "Just a Girl" in subtle protest. OC/LA punks love-hated Mickey Mouse, Disney propaganda films, and the kingdom.

Junkie Mickey Mouse (mature art Etsy)
  • Was beloved American Walt Disney a well-known antisemite? Production manager Harry Tytle, and head of merchandising Kay Kamen, once quipped that Disney's New York office had "more Jews than The Book of Leviticus" [209]. Wikipedia editors (many of them being trained Zionist propagandists) will write anything to dissociate Walt from his Hitler fandom.
Little-known facts about Mickey Mouse that every Disney lover should know

It's Mickey Mouse Day! Where's Minnie Mouse?
Mickey Mouse is one of the most iconic and beloved characters in the world of entertainment, but there are still many little-known facts about him that even the biggest Disney fans might not be aware of. From his original name to all the way he's made history, here are some fascinating insights into everyone's favorite mouse. More

Controlled opposition in '1984': Goldstein

Character analysis: Goldstein in Orwell's 1984

Jewish savior figure, The Messiah Goldstein
(Exam Word) Character Analysis. Emmanuel Goldstein occupies a central role in the Party’s (as opposed to the Proles’) narrative, serving as a symbol of rebellion and a tool of control.

Goldstein only appears on screens during the Two Minutes Hate ritual and never directly in the story, his presence looms large as the alleged leader of the resistance (The Brotherhood), the enemy within, against the Party.

Through his role in the narrative, symbolic significance, and broader implications, Goldstein becomes a multifaceted character who represents the complexities of dissent, propaganda, and manipulation in a totalitarian regime. More at lak12.com/book/character...

Was the REAL Messiah an erased woman?

Was the REAL Messiah a WOMAN erased from history?
(MorgueOfficial) Premiered May 17, 2025: What if the true Messiah was a woman who’s been erased from history on purpose by the patriarchy named Barbelo? And what if we proved that there's an ancient gospel that was deliberately banned by the early Christian Church that says exactly this? What is Gnosticism?

Becoming [Mexican] Frida Kahlo (BBC)

New book gathers every single documented Frida Kahlo, including lost works
Goddess and God of Christianity, Catholic icons, a Mary and the Jesus. Which Mary?
  • Who's Frida Kahlo?
  • The Eyebrow Lady? Isn't she Che Guevara's divine consort?
  • We prefer to think of her as the Unibrow Goddess, thank you. What is a "divine consort"?
  • Y'know, like, Goddesses are always paired with Gods. There's Krishna and Radha, Shiva and Parvati, the Buddha and Kwan Yin, the Jesus and Mary [Magdelene] ChainMuhammad and Khadija, and now Che and Frida.
  • Oh, yeah, something like that -- iconic -- but the Buddha did not have a wife. Prince Siddhartha (who later became the Buddha) did, and here name was Bimba (though the world remembers her as Yasodhara, which is a description, and by many other names).
BBC: Becoming Frida Kahlo

A divine couple, Frida and Che (modern art)
There are many myths that surround the passionate, radical Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón, 1907–1954), the most famous female artist of the 20th century.

This compelling art documentary attempts to set the record straight. It reveals how politics, love, and art shaped Frida as an individual and as an artist. And it shows how she ultimately strived to be free from the control and influence of men.
Becoming Frida Kahlo on BBC Select

Episode 1: "Tragedy Strikes"
Frida Kahlo, husband Diego Rivera
When an accident changes Frida’s life, she channels pain and heartache into painting. Frida Kahlo was a rebel from the outset, challenging norms from an early age. As a young woman, she met Mexican Diego Rivera, a superstar artist who would go on to change her. But a tragic accident thwarted Frida’s plans. Left facing a life of pain and injury, she channeled this tragedy and used it as the catalyst for her artistic career.

Episode 2: "Travel and Turmoil"
Kahlo’s potent portrait on US-Mexico border
Now married and living in 1930s America, Frida witnesses the ugly side of capitalism. Frida Kahlo traveled to America alongside her lover Diego Rivera, who’d been commissioned to produce an important mural. But Frida was determined to succeed in her own right. She was shocked by the vast gap between rich and poor in America. Then after losing a child to miscarriage and her mother to illness, she produced some of her most visceral and devastating works.

Episode 3: "The Final Years"
Dangerous politics and turbulent [bisexual] love distort and devastate Frida Kahlo’s world. After a short affair with Leon Trotsky, Frida finally achieved her own solo exhibition in Europe. But all does not go according to plan. She learns that husband Diego Rivera wants a divorce. Pouring her pain into her work, she creates her masterpiece: The Two Fridas. Her last years are spent in agony, while creating some of her most enduring images. Source

Alt media: Pacifica Free Speech Radio

Which icon from the Americas represents rebellion and an alternative to imperial rule?

.
Rebel Alliance News (M-F, 6pm)
Pacifica Free Speech Radio, Los Angeles, is perhaps the best, most dangerous to the system radio on the airwaves. Hear it through the Online Archives (KPFK.org, at 90.7 FM in LA). Some of the best shows include The Aware Show with Lisa Garr, a Coast to Coast co-host. She specializes in health, New Age spirituality, self-improvement, and the positive paranormal.

Eastern spirituality explained with Alan Watts
LA's big NPR affiliate is mainly mainstream war news, cheering on support for Israel (and its genocide on Gaza), joking dubbed "National Jewish Radio" by comedian David Sedaris, abortion, liberal issues, science, secularism, funding for the US Proxy War in Ukraine, all things pro-vaccination and Dr. Fauci, Democrats and nerd content. There's fan favorite "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!" News from Washington DC and Center of the World LA. LAist.com (89.3 FM LA) Daily Radio Schedule. Lukewarm recommendation because of its overwhelming support of government as it is, mainstream issues, the status quo, war, alcohol, and never taking up anything very radical.
