I don't want to drown in American society

(Eddie and the Subtitles) "I Don't Want to Drown in American Society"

Danger, Will Robbing Son, danger!
Yeah, sure, Eddie, but what is "American" society? At least with LA punkers Wasted Youth, they get right to the point, claiming to be as addicted to all-American stuff (junk food, junk TV, junk relationships, etc.) as "heroin" addicts are to heroin. Pretty sure they didn't mean actual opioid, morphine, poppy plant extract from Afghanistan. - You know, "American" society, it's like "whatever." - Okay, well, then, in that case, let's ask Dr. Robert Lustig.

The Hacking of American Mind: Science Behind Corporate Takeover of Our Bodies and Brains

Author and narrator Dr. Robert H. Lustig, MD, has 4.6 out of 5 stars (with 1,159 ratings). This unabridged audiobook "explores how industry has manipulated our most deep-seated survival instincts," says Dr. David Perlmutter, MD, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Grain Brain and Brain Maker.

Dr. Lustig, the New York Times-bestselling author of Fat Chance, reveals the corporate scheme to sell pleasure, driving the international epidemic of
  • addiction,
  • depression,
  • chronic disease.
Metabolical: Lure and Lies of Processed Food
While researching the toxic and addictive properties of white sugar for his New York Times bestseller Fat Chance, Dr. Lustig made an alarming discovery: Our pursuit of happiness is being subverted by a culture of addiction and depression from which we may never recover.

Dopamine is the “reward” neurotransmitter that tells our brains we want more; yet, every substance or behavior that releases dopamine in the extreme leads to addiction.

Serotonin is the “contentmentneurotransmitter that tells our brains we don’t need any more; yet, its deficiency leads to depression.

Idiocracy was prophecy not comedy
Fat Chance; Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity
Ideally, both are in optimal supply in our bodies.

But dopamine evolved to overwhelm serotonin—because our ancestors were more likely to survive if they were constantly motivated. The result has been that constant desire can chemically destroy our ability to feel happiness, while sending us down the slippery slope to addiction.

In the last 40 years, government legislation and subsidies have promoted ever-available temptation (porn, sugar, illegal drugs, social media) combined with constant stress (work, home, money, internet).

The end result is an unprecedented epidemic of mental addiction, anxiety, depression, and chronic physical diseases.

We can hack this cave, build fires, project images
With the advent of neuromarketing, corporate America has successfully imprisoned us in an endless loop of desire and consumption from which there is no obvious escape.

With his customary wit and incisiveness, Dr. Lustig not only reveals the science that drives these states of mind, he points his finger directly at the corporations that created this mess and the government actors who facilitated it.

And he offers solutions we can all use in the pursuit of happiness, even in the face of overwhelming opposition.

Always fearless and provocative, Dr. Lustig marshals a call to action, with seminal implications for our health, our well-being, and our culture. More

May Day: Int'l Workers Day solidarity

What is May Day?

Pyramid of Capitalist System
International Workers' Day ("May Day" to most of the world outside the U.S.): International Workers' Day, also called Labor Day in some countries [1] and often referred to as "May Day" [2, 3] is a celebration of laborers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labor movement and occurs every year on May 1st [4, 5] or the first Monday in May [6, 7].

Traditionally, May 1st is the date of the European spring festival of May Day. The International Workers Congress held in Paris in 1889 established the Second International for labor, socialist, and Marxist parties.

It adopted a resolution for a "great international demonstration" in support of working-class demands for the 8-hour day.

The date was chosen by the American Federation of Labor to commemorate a general strike in the United States, which had begun on May 1, 1886, and culminated in the Haymarket affair on May 4th.

The demonstration subsequently became a yearly event [5]. The 1904 Sixth Conference of the Second International, called on "all Social Democratic Party organizations and trade unions of all countries to demonstrate energetically on the First of May for the legal establishment of the 8-hour day, for the class demands of the proletariat, and for universal peace" [8]. More

Happy Festivus 2025 (Seinfeld)

Jerry Stiller was funnier than Ben
Festivus
(/ˈfɛstɪvəs/) is a secular holiday celebrated annually in America on December 23 as an alternative to the perceived familial pressures and rampant commercialism and phoniness of the Christmas (Xmas) season.

Originally created by author Daniel O'Keefe, Festivus entered popular culture after it was made the focus of the 1997 Seinfeld episode called "The Strike" [1, 2].

Festivus pole (complete)
In it, George's disgruntled Jewish dad, Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller), makes the whole country laugh with recognition by actually doing something to oppose Christian-Pagan Xmas mass consumerism. O'Keefe's son, Dan O'Keefe, co-wrote the immortal episode.

The anti-commercial holiday's celebration, as depicted on Seinfeld, occurs on December 23rd and includes a
  • Festivus dinner,
  • an unadorned aluminum "Festivus pole,"
  • practices such as the "airing of grievances" and "feats of strength," and
  • the labeling of easily explainable events as "Festivus miracles" [3].
Don't call me Jewish! I'm a Festivite now.
The episode even has a tagline for all anti-Xmas folks who want to join the cultural revolution against humbug, Christmas fakery (and Chanukkah/Hanukkah mimicry of what the Goyim/Gentiles are up to), and commercial profiteering: "Festivus for the rest of us!"

It has been described both as a parody holiday festival and as a form of playful consumer resistance.[4] Journalist Allen Salkin describes it as "the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering" [1]. More

How much PAIN would you rather? (sutra)

Ven. Sujato (trans.) Salla Sutta (SuttaCentral.net) edited by Dhr. Seven, Wisdom Quarterly

“Mendicants, an unlearned ordinary person feels pleasant, painful, and neutral feelings. A learned noble disciple [one anywhere along the four stages of enlightenment] also feels pleasant, painful, and neutral feelings. What, then, is the difference between a learned noble disciple and an ordinary unlearned person?”

“Our teachings are rooted in the Buddha. …”

“When an unlearned ordinary person experiences painful physical feelings, she or he sorrows and wails and laments, beating the breast and falling into confusion. One experiences two feelings, physical and mental.

One is bad enough. Why make it worse?
“It is like a person who is struck by an arrow only to be struck with a second arrow. That person experiences the feeling of two arrows.

“In the same way, when an unlearned ordinary person experiences painful physical feelings, one sorrows and wails and laments, beating one’s breast and falling into confusion. One experiences two feelings, physical and mental.

“When one is touched by painful feeling, one resists it. The underlying tendency for revulsion [aversion, resistance, hate, dosa] towards painful feeling underlies that.

“When touched by painful feeling, one looks forward to enjoying sensual pleasures. Why is that? It is because an unlearned ordinary person does not understand any other escape from painful feeling apart from [the temporary and unfulfilling distraction of] sensual pleasures.

“Since one looks forward to enjoying sensual pleasures, the underlying tendency to greed [lust, craving, grasping, clinging, lobha] for pleasant feeling underlies that.

“One does not truly understand feelings’ origin, disappearance, gratification, drawback, and escape. The underlying tendency to ignorance [delusion, confusion, wrong view, moha] about neutral feeling underlies that.

“If one feels a pleasant feeling, one feels it attached. If one feels a painful feeling, one feels it attached. If one feels a neutral feeling, one feels it attached.

“One is called an unlearned ordinary person who is attached [clinging] to rebirth, old age, and death, to sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress, one who is attached to suffering [disappointment, unsatisfactoriness], I say.

Noble disciples
“When a learned noble disciple experiences painful physical feelings, one does not sorrow nor wail nor lament, beating one’s breast and falling into confusion. One experiences one feeling: physical, not mental.

“It is like a person who is struck by an arrow but not struck by a second arrow. That person would only experience the feeling of one arrow.

“In the same way, when a learned noble disciple experiences painful physical feelings, one does not sorrow nor wail nor lament, beating the breast and falling into confusion. One experiences one feeling, physical, not mental.

“When one is touched by painful feeling, one does not resist it. There is no underlying tendency for revulsion towards painful feeling underlying that.

“When touched by painful feeling, one does not look forward to enjoying sensual pleasures. Why is that? It is because a learned noble disciple understands an escape from painful feeling apart from sensual pleasures.

“Since one does not look forward to enjoying sensual pleasures, there is no underlying tendency to greed for pleasant feeling underlying that.

“One truly understands feelings’ origin, disappearance, gratification, drawback, and escape. There is no underlying tendency to ignorance about neutral feeling underlying that.

“If one feels a pleasant feeling, one feels it detached. If one feels a painful feeling, one feels it detached. If one feels a neutral feeling, one feels it detached.

“One is called a learned noble disciple who is detached from rebirth, old age, and death, from sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress, one who is detached from suffering, I say.

“This is the difference between a learned noble disciple and an unlearned ordinary person.

Summary in verse
A wise and learned disciple is unmoved
by feelings of pleasure and pain.
This is the great difference in skill
between the wise and the ordinary.

A learned disciple who has appraised the Teaching
discerns this world and the next.
Desirable things do not disturb the mind
nor is one repelled by the repulsive.

Both favoring and opposing
are cleared and ended and are no more.
Knowing the stainless and sorrowless state,
one who has gone beyond rebirth
understands rightly.”

Jewish ANTI-Zionist Congress, 2025

Jewish Anti-Zionist Congress in Vienna 2025 impressions
(Palästina Solidarität Österreich - PSÖ) June 20, 2025: The world watches in horror the unfolding Jewish-Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people committed by [Christian] Zionism in partnership with the West.

It is our duty [as Jews and Christian people of conscience] to take action, as this is done in our name. We must join our Palestinian brothers and sisters in their darkest hour, and work for freeing and decolonizing Palestine!

To achieve this just aim, we must have progressive organizations and individuals across the world with us, working against Zionist Apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide as the last devastating evidence of colonialism which must be terminated.
Jews and people of Jewish descent everywhere -- those whom the criminal Zionist state claims to speak for -- are uniting to declare their unwavering opposition to Zionism.

Since the First Zionist Congress over a century ago, [fringe] Zionism claimed to speak on behalf of all Jews, while permanently attempting to silence our opposition to its constant crimes.

Jewish tradition, history, and culture are totally opposed to genocide. The impressive history of Jewish resistance to Zionism is as long as [that of] Zionism: it included [dissenting] religious communities as well as secular movements of Jewish descent, and the vehement Jewish opposition to the creation of the Zionist state in Palestine itself.

Zionism is a crime against Judaism and the indigenous people of Palestine [whether racistly calling them "Arabs" or rightly calling them Palestinians], and we are committed to putting an end to it.

Over the years, it became clear that Zionism, instead of protecting Jews, placed them in great danger by committing atrocities in their name.

Zionism is based on racial supremacy, adopting the very racist assumptions which are inherent to antisemitism -- describing Jews as belonging to some special chosen race -- a notion which is fundamentally racist and which has no relation to Judaism.

The Zionist settler-colonial entity [the imperial project calling itself "Israel"] denies Palestinians their most basic rights [even their right to be viewed as a people, a distinct group with its own customs].

Zionism operates through colonialism, apartheid, ethnic-cleansing, and genocide in Palestine even before 1948 [and the Nakba or "Catastrophe" of displacement, theft, terror, and mass murder].

Ilan Pappé: Israel has a legal right to exist?

Fourteen million Palestinians worldwide are its direct victims. [A world of Jews everywhere are its indirect victims.]

To Israel we firmly declare “Not in Our Name!”

We are devoted to terminating Zionism, and we are devoted to the decolonization of Palestine under Palestinian leadership!

Above all, Zionism is a crime against humanity. Dedicated to the oath of the survivors of Mauthausen Concentration Camp, handed down to us as testimony of resistance against Nazi fascism, we follow their universal legacy and reiterate their message:

“The permanence in the camp, lasting years, has reinforced in our minds the knowledge of the value of brotherhood among the people of all nations. True to these ideals, we make a solemn oath to continue to fight, firm and united, against imperialism and against the instigation of hatred between peoples.”

Together we will join forces at the first Jewish Anti-Zionist Congress and united we will join the Palestinians in liberating Palestine and building a democratic, just, and equal society for all!

People of all backgrounds were invited. Joining forces with Palestinians and allies in the struggle against Zionism.

Do Jews, Muslims, Christians have same God? - All Palestinian children are Hamas. Kill 'em all!

LA protests, parties, burns (Daily Show)

The Posse Comitatus Act is (or used to be until this weekend) a United States federal law prohibiting members of the military [such as the Marines called out by Trump and Hegseth] from exercising powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property. What does right wing rense.com have to say about it and Trump's behavior?
